Toluway: Thanks Elai. I used limit order because of scandalous prices it buys stocks for me atimes. At times higher than the closing price. That is why I started using limits o. And the limit order started it's own problems again as I also could not get Abctrans since last week.Yes, that's why I also started using limit orders but in the case of Oando's current trading system, you just have to use market order if you must get the stock to buy as quickly as you want. |
malon tee: Thanks! There is no need to rush into stock market if you don't have a good knowledge of how it works. This is very important to avoid being discouraged and disappointed. My advice is for you to go through the various posts on this thread. It looks very uneasy but it's worth it as you will find almost everything you need to know here. Read a lot of stock investment books and get yourself prepared first. Here is a thread by stockbull where you can download some e-books. https://www.nairaland.com/1476501/business-investment-book-directory You have to be able to do two things to have a successful investment: picking the right company and buying at the right price. These are the two most important parts to investing in the stock market. You also need to determine if you want to be a long term investor or a speculator. Long term is usually the best and safer and if you must do speculative trading, you need to do it with your eyes widely opened as there is high possibility of losing your money. This is why you must get absolute knowledge before you test drive. Lastly, don't trade with money you cannot afford to lose. |
immanuello: Great people on this thread, can any tell me from technical point of view the position of ubcap & afriprudential bulls as per its expensiveness whether its too late to join or move elsewhere with ubcap@2.20 do you think this can go up to #5 or #7 unlike livestock did last year from #1.48-7.45.When there are too much appetite for a stock and the stock is doing gap trading, it can be very difficult to tell where the next resistance would be. But I don't think ubcap will get to N5 before it retraces to a new found support. |
Toluway: since last week meristem just couldn't get me Oando while I watch it appreciating at least 10% everyday. This is rather scary. My last purchase was on 31 Dec and Meristem has always been able to execute all my madates on Oando the same day I placed them. So how come they could not get you Oando? Or are you trying to buy millions of unit like Dumexoga or 1% of Oando like oga Ucheson and co.? ![]() Also, if you are using a limit order, it could be the cause of the delay. Remember Oando is doing Gap trading in the recent days so there is high possibility of the stock opening above your limit price. In a fast moving market like that of Oando, it is better to place market orders if you want to get the stock quickly. |
malon tee: Where do I buy/get a brokerYou can try Meristem securities. Register here www.meritrade.com. They are very good. |
mercylicious: @Ugo41babe, are u sure u paid in on time b4 d hols? It culd be d hols. With morgan, they update themselves.I don't need to contact them except I paid in same day and need to trade same day. I use internet banking for my transfer. In the narration, I write my morgan acnt no b4 writing my name so dt it will be easy for them to pick. That is what I don't like about Meristem. I use my Meritrade account number as transfer narration but still they will not credit me until I start complaining. I am giving them till first quarter to reduce my transaction fees or else... Morgan capital. |

Bwave: Thanks for your suggestion but all am seeing here are old reports.http://www.nse.com.ng/Lists/Financial_News/AllItems.aspx |
gosj: My bro sometimes i wonder why an investor will try to desuade other investors from breaking out of poverty. Its quite obvious from many post targeted on Oando by some of our fellows that they dont actually mean well for Oando at all.Well said my oga. The truth is that most of the investors that criticise Oando actually have Oando in their portfolio. People should follow what their minds tell them. Like what we have been saying here, NSE (not just Oando) is for the brave hearted. It all depend on your level of risk appetite. |
jarkbauer: technical analysis point if view HOW?If you look at what the graph is saying, all indicators are pointing to the same direction. There is no doubt the stock will retrace soon but not that it will get close to N70 |
I have not been following the news lately. What's the story on our COP deal? And who are those that are trying to hinder Oando's progress with bad posts? . I beg them with the spirit of NEM to leave Oando alone and face Nestle. Make we see how dem go fit talk down Nestle. |
jarkbauer: do you know they posted a bad result? It depends on what perspective Omexonomy is viewing from. I am not sure it's from a long term or fundamental perspective but she may be right from technical analysis point if view. |
Born 2be Rich: The vexing no be small one..thank God say temperature don dey come down.It is difficult to understand why some people who are well grounded in this business will put all their resources on a single stock (an insurance coy for that matter). Sometimes we are left with no option than to disbelieve some of what we read from some posts. |

2ndOGA: Quick question. Is it better to buy these treasury bills from the banks or via a stock broking firm?It is better to buy from banks or discount houses. |
A lot of shareholders passed away without adequately handing over their investment portfolios to any relative. In fact in many instances, relatives of the shareholder may not even be aware of such investment. The worst case is when the late shareholder did not keep records of such investment and the relative only know when they began to receive dividend warrants posted to that late shareholder. That is when they began to realise that the late relative has investment in shares and hence began to find ways to retrieve or claim the shares. But the problem is they don’t even know anything about shares or how to reclaim shares of late relatives. So how can you reclaim the shares of a late relative? Take note that when we say reclaim, it does not mean that you transfer the ownership of the shares to yourself. It only means having authority to manage those shares on behalf of the late relative. In other words, the shares continue to be in the name of the deceased. Secondly, the process or procedure for reclaiming or having authority to manage the shares of a late relative is the same as that of having authority to manage his/her properties i.e land, houses, bank accounts etc. After all shares are parts of the property the deceased shareholder left behind. Also the process is a legal process involving the court, hence you need the services of a lawyer. To reclaim, manage or administer the shares or properly of a late relative, you need a document called ‘Letter of Administration’ approved by a High Court. The letter is written by a lawyer, based on the instruction of the family or representative of the family of the late shareholder. The letter will contain list and value of all the shares and properties of the deceased. It will also contain names of at least two people who will be nominated by the family to administer the shares. The Letter of Administration basically applies to the court to confer authority on the nominated relatives the power to administer the shares or properties of the deceased shareholder. Upon receipt of the letter, the court will do an independent valuation of the listed shares or properties for the purpose of determining the capital gain tax that should be paid on the shares. There are two implications from the above. The first is, before applying for the Letter of Administration, the family of the deceased must first appoint a lawyer, and then nominate the those will administer the shares or property of the deceased. The second implication is that the family must take time to find out all the properties and investment of the deceased and get appropriate professionals to value them. Now this can be a herculean task for a lot of families, especially if the deceased did not keep meticulous record of his properties and investments. It is a situation that is aggravated where the deceased also did not acquaint any relative with his affairs. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/12/accessing-shares-late-relatives |

I was so surprised when i attempted to buy my stock 2day and it was just traded in a twinkle of an eye as if i was on one of those forex platforms! @Born2beRich, thanks a lot for that informative post. |
emmanuel ewumi: Why must you tell us that you are a member of Apostolic Faith? This smells like a scam. For your information, my father is Pastor in that Church. The fact that he mentioned the name of his church showed that he is up to something. Instead he should have included his home address and ID/passport copy since he wants to gain our trust. I wonder if people will actually waste their calling credits to enquire about such proposals. |
SWG 1: .Bros I no understand this your proposed offline following of madam mercy o... Oga 9free u dey see wetin dey happen so. |

jamace: Ha haIt is obvious Japaul will leave the car park soon but e go need prayers on top of mountain (as janykute talk) so that e no go fall back to base. |
nairaxchan: Please anyone with idea of treasury bill, i need answer to this question.Yes you can get a certificate for your investment but you may have to request for it. Most banks will not send you the certificate unless you request for it. |
emmanuel ewumi: They buy for there customers through there bank, and they will charge between 0.5% to 0.75%. Meristem Securities use Zenith Bank for TB investment for there customers and the minimum they will accept in order to create room for their own commission is N 1 million. emmanuel ewumi: They use the clients money to buy through the broker's bank. I stand to be corrected FBN Capital uses FBN for their TB investment. Thanks jare for the info... So why should an investor go through these companies (and pay extra commission charge) when he/she can buy directly from banks and discount houses? Are these bills actually purchased in the investors name or the company's name? Also, who credits investors account at maturity- the stockbrokers or the bank they use? If investors accounts are credited by the stockbroking firms then it is possible the bills were actually bought in the company's name and not the investor's name. If this is true, it is the stockbroking firms that are actually covered by FG/CBN's guarantee on TBills, not the investors. So if these companies go bankrupt what happens to investors capital? Because I don't understand why a company that is not a marketer of Tbills will be posing as middleman or agent and investors will be purchasing Tbills via these companies. This is just a "what if" scenario as I only buy my Tbills through banks. Perhaps those that buy through stockbroking firms can clarify me on the above issue. |
emmanuel ewumi: I stand to be corrected FBN Capital is not among the institutions authorized to trade the TB, bidding by FBN Capital will go through FBN hea office.Exactly but now I am surprised most stockbroking firms are buying TBills for their clients. It is my understanding that only discount houses and banks are allowed to trade on TBills. So I think most of these other firms sell to their clients from their company's purchased bills. |
mrsolutionm: Pls am a newbie and I have a question if I invest like 5million does it mean I will automatically gain return of 400 thousand plus and my capital? mrsolutionm: After the 90 days? The interest is per annum. So you will have to divide the overall interest by 4 to get the interest for 91 days. 5 million naira will give you around 140 K for 91 days T-bills. It could be more or less depending on the stop rate for the auction. |
gosj: You are a bomb Sir! Tnxx a million! 1 million units of Oando for you abegU are too much! I don tell uncle Onyema to credit my CSCS shaperly with just 100K units. 1 million units of Oando no go fit size my account. ![]() |
