Ola one: Ajimobi is just an idi.ot!

You need to tell me why Fijabi's building at Dugbe is still standing when others around it have been demolished.

I also want to know why he hasn't demolished structures at Sabo/Jemibewon Road.

Yet, he has destroyed properties owned by indigenous people.
Oh !, It is no more about the bridge, it is something else now undecided

I want to assume you are one of those who have lost out from the PDP "share the money" reign in Oyo state.

The Ajimobi you call an idi, ot in 1 year and 10 months is positively changing the status of Oyo state, something not experienced during the PDP reign.

I dont get what you mean?

you want to know what more?, infact the news report link, you hurriedly provided has the information on the two bridges in Ogun state and Oyo state constructed by the same firm (the lengths ).

I guess your real problem is you are mentally lazy to read it, your analytical mind is dead.

You are carried away more with emotions, and beer parlour rumour and gist does it for you.

Also, a one-span bridge at Secretariat gulped 485 million shocked shocked

We are watching him. And, we are getting ready for him.
You are a liar, Ogun state is over 400 metres, while that of Oyo state is over 600 metres. you will do well to keep quiet.

EducationRe: Is Mathematics Really Important? by emiye(m): 8:03pm On Mar 28, 2013
@ OP, Mathematics is the most important subject, and i opined it is the easiest subject, if only you understand the basic laws and decide to follow it. You will need it for job aptitude tests.

Evidently your foundation in maths is faulty, i will recommend you swallow your pride, (1) start by mastering your times table like a primary school student so well and should be able to give the answers at the snap of your fingers. If i should ask you 9 * 7 and you have to wait for 5 seconds to give the answer, something is wrong.

I have a one year plan, i recommend for people like you, romance the New General Mathematics textbook, get a notebook, master the rules and laws and solve several questions. you should progress thus : Get a J.s.s 1-3 textbook, plan to cover it in 3 months (a month each for each year,it is possible if you are determined (3) S.S 1 maths textbook (4 months) (4) S.S 2 maths txtbk (2 months) (5) S,S 3 maths txtbk (1 month). Try this with an open mind, and your foundation will be restored.

I am a success story in Maths, transiting from a week maths student in Primary school, to obtaining my Only A1 in WASSCE exam in maths, in fact the other distinctions were A3's.

Maths aid logical thinking and decision making, in actual fact, if you are deficient in maths, you dont realise how much of deficiency it has on your analytical thinking, you will tend to use more of your emotions in making decisions.

booqee: no! I can specifically tell you dat the citizens at ifo local government are definitely not happy. Infact they're not happy with amosun. angry bad roads, no good supply of electricity.. damn. Amosun is only facing major cities in ogun state..and dats not fair to the other local government. But no..they never fail to collect taxes from us. Their internal revenue service bus never stops parading here, collecting taxes! Wtf?!
Girl, take a chill, Amosun has only being governor for 1 year and 10 months, initially the complain was he was focusing only on the capital city, Abeokuta, now it has changed to major cities, wait a little more, it will change to only cities and not rural areas. Let me tell one bitter truth though, the most important thing needed from the governor is consistency, even at that, he wont fix all the bad roads or construct all the needed new roads in 4 years, no thanks to financial constraints.

anonimi: Thank you for raising these pertinent questions for those who still have scales on their eyes to understand these issues COMPREHENSIVELY.
How much did Awolowo leave when he was Western region premier 60 years ago with REAL massive projects all over the region and laying the foundation for ROBUST human development in education, healthcare etc and YET he had no oil money.
Same thing with Olabisi Onabanjo 30 nyears ago.
Those who want to compare with Gbenga Daniel and the other military administrators MILADS are free to do so in order for them to continue celebrating this expensive MEDIOCRITY.
You this PDP boy, you enjoy asking nonsensical questions that you want no answer to. You don't want the current ACN governor in Ogun State to be compared with the preceding governor who spent 8 years with little or nothing show, instead they should be compared with the administrators 30 and 60 years ago, I see nothing much wrong with your intended comparism, if only you are sincere, and attempt to put objectivity in to your comparisms.

I have questions for you, since you know so much about Awolowo and Onabanjo era.

I think it is best you answer your questions, and also find answers to these ones.

What was the exchange rate of the then Nigerian currency to a british pound & US dollar 60 years and 30 years ago ?

or the Naira value has stayed the same?

What was the population of the western Region 60 years ago and Ogun state 30 years ago?

What was the average income per annum in nigerian currency?

Finding answers to these questions will aid objective comparisms.
PoliticsRe: I Cannot Work With Tinubu, ACN A Party Of Rebels – Falae by emiye(m): 3:25pm On Mar 26, 2013
This man is simply bitter, he lacked what a political strategist should have, which is foresight. For that i will respect the man Tinubu.

Tinubu saw that supporting OBJ was dangerous for AD in 2003, most of the elders never saw it.
Tinubu saw that the AD was a drowning party in 2006, and quickly liaise with other important figures to form the ACN
Tinubu saw a good leader in Fashola, even when others failed to see it.
Tinubu saw that fighting a battle with OBJ during the LG creation debacle was a battle he could survive without FG allocation.
Tinubu was never afraid to be alone with his ideology, and only him survived the PDP tsunami in 2003 SW gubernatorial elections. In actual Fact INEC had concluded rigging PDP for Lagos on its website apportioning over 1 million votes to PDP, and 800,000 votes for AD, but they could not declare it, they find out it was suicidal to do that with Tinubu.

ACN was formed few months to the 2007 election , and not 2003 as Falae makes it seems.

Falae also formed the DPA party, so what is the fuss?, why didnt he stay in the AD ?

Many of these claimed leaders who simply lack FORESIGHT have a problem with Tinubu now for his perceived success, it is a slap on their face, and they are really bitter. The man they looked at as a small rascal some 14 years ago is the cornerstone of the Opposition in Nigerian politics.

Let me also add that someone who is trying to revive SDP party in 2013, is likely senile or out of touch with reality.

Bokoharam Is Fighting For Justice – Bamangar Tukur

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has said members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, are fighting for justice.

According to him, many Nigerians feel aggrieved and seek various means of airing their grievances.

Tukur, who spoke in Abuja on Tuesday when he received members of the party from Gombe State, said there must be justice in the country for peace to reign.

He however regretted that the activities of the sect were preventing some northerners from travelling to their home states.

Tukur said there was no way angry people would control their anger when there was nothing on their stomachs.

He said, “Let there be peace in the North so that we can have security.

“We can’t even travel again because of the insecurity in the region. Boko Haram is fighting for justice. Boko Haram is another name for justice.

“People feel aggrieved. They are angry because they are hungry. Unless we remove the hunger, we too may not be able to rest.

“We should remember that a child who says his mother would not sleep will also not sleep.”

The former governor of old Gongola State said he accepted to be honoured by the members of the party from the North-East on Saturday in his village because he wanted people know that things were not working well with the people in rural areas.

He said, “People would be wondering why I took the reception to my village in Jada. And they would be asking why not a place like Abuja, where we have good roads and all that.

“I did so, so that people would know what is happening in rural areas. Those that were there must have seen the bad roads. We must help people who cannot help themselves.

“That is why we are in government. You cannot do anything unless you are committed to it. We must build this party on equity and justice.”

Earlier, Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwanbo, who led the delegation said the members came to show their loyalty to the leadership of the party.

occam: Even Nigeria's top statistician confirms poverty is still excruciatingly high in Nigeria

Dr Kale said that between 2004 and 2010, Nigeria’s poverty rate had moved from 54.4 per cent to 69 per cent involving 112,518,507 Nigerians, adding that although the country’s Gross Domestic Growth (GDP) had grown since then, it had little impact on the poverty situation

In some states poverty rate is about 77%
Thanks, i believe those stats, they are not far from reality, i wish some doubting the stats can get down from their high horse.

Just goes to show the dubious nature of 'World Bank statistics'.
According to NDIC , almost 90% of the deposits in the banks are owned by 6%.
One of the biggest problem, is the distribution of wealth is so skewed. The middle class is almost non existent.

PoliticsRe: Fashola Destroys Slums In Lagos, Leaving Thousands Homeless by emiye(m):
sucess001: Emiye, i like ur intellectual analysis of issues albeit i do not agree.

the reason is this. lagos dont have to have the same kind of budget as Venezuala. you do not even need money to allocate a portion of lanf to people who have been living there for long.

Now let me tell u this...even Nigeria's LAND USE ACT at the time of promulgation confered ownership at of land to people who have been inhabiting a place for a long period.

lagos can adopt that more humane approach in this case.

thats my point.
What is the definition of Long period?

How do you determine the long period?

Lagos state is the most populated state in nigeria , and also the state with the smallest land mass.

How reasonable is it to then allocate such very scarce commodity (lands) to those individuals (some not even nigerians) who illegally settle on a land, and turn it to a place of filth, and slum.?

In the event of natural disasters, many of these people are so directly exposed to the risks involved, and will suffer the consequences, the makoko slum is a great eyesore and some other slums, and gradually Government must take step to reduce slums in Urban areas, The MDG goals , in particular goal 7 and target 7.10 looks at reducing urban population in slums.

The phrase "Go back to your village" might sound tribalistic or inhumane, but on a second thought, there is some sense in it. There are people who have no business staying in Lagos State, a cosmopolitan city. The same applies to Abuja and some other places.

Many of the slum dwellers also do not help themselves, slum is not where you live forever, you a see man in the slum breeding like pigs, no plan to get out of the slum, creating a vicious cycle of poverty, and an expanding slum.

All in all, I think Governance also requires that certain logical decisions are taken, devoid of emotions or sentiments.

If i come to stay illegally on your land with my wife and children, i am sure, one day you will give me an eviction notice.

When you say North, do you understand the complexities and ethnic mix of the North, the religious diversity in the North ?. Do an indepth research on each of the states in the following zones (North West, North East, North Central)with special emphasis on their ethnic mix and religious diversity, I think we southerners are guilty of stereotyping the Northerners. We mostly have a poor understanding of the composition of the North.

If you succeed with your biological weapon to exterminate the north, what happens to your southern brothers who reside there?

So my choice which I call "the final solution" would be a biological weapon, a deadly, weaponised, laboratory engineered pathogen with no cure that would be dispersed and then the whole north would be quarantined. To the world, it would look like a deadly sub saharan or tropical disease outbreak just like flu, Ebola, small pox, etc

Lagos state should not and can not afford to implement all the "socialist" thrash you are recommending. Infact it is the last state in Nigeria that will do that. Big important cities like, Lagos, Abuja, PH, Kano can not afford to be too slack chasing those textbook ideals, the moment you start compensating illegality, you have set a very wrong precedence that will boomerang. Don't refer to Venezuela any more, please, that is a communist country, for goodness sake.

Let me indulge you a little bit, Venezuela (oil rich nation) with a national budget in 2012 of Bs. 297.5 billion ($69 billion) and a population of 29.5 million.

Lagos state with a state budget in 2012 of N497 billion ( $3.1 billion) and a population of almost 20 million.

I used to argue like you some years back as passionately as you are doing, without understanding some specifics.
3.1 billion USD versus 69 billion USD. (Can they ever be mates)

One has a spending power almost 23 times more.
EducationRe: Osun Distributes Free Tablet-Computers To Students by emiye(m):
Okija_juju: You see, I just brushed through the previous posts on this threads and it seems the one great misconception here is that Tablets for Secondary school pupils are bad, and its not what myself and many others are trying to say..

I have been searching for the pictures of Public schools in Imo State that I took a while back as part of a research for a job that a colleague was trying to do in Imo State. What we saw there was an eyesore. Infact in the report we drafted and handed back, some of the schools were tagged #writeoffs. Moving on from Imo State to Cross River State. Any Corp member here that served in Cross River would be familiar with Obubra orientation Camp. There is a school in front of the camp as well, not even cows can be kept in side there a barn. The public schools (especially those in the rural areas) are in dire need of a total overhaul.

Lets take Rivers State which is currently holding the flame in Public school rehabilitation. I visited one of the schools that was rebuilt. It had everything from Proper boards to deaks, fully stocked & air conditioned libraries, playground, basketball court, well laid out tracks, swings, laboratory and a mini farm for agric projects. Then their computer labs would make many cybercafes look like rubbish as they all had their own Vsat systems. Then to add to it, the government also gave out free school uniforms and books to the pupils of these schools. Even I a grown ass man was stunned. The only problems he is currently facing is the verification of teachers which has been black-balled by the Teachers Union.

From the picture posted by Evanscjmac, its obvious that Osun has just put the cart before the horse. If you notice, the one question we have been asking is if Tablets are the immediate need of Osun public schools. The cost implication of such a project can also not be ignored especially as there are other more important fundamental & cost-effective projects that need to be done in these schools that have not been done. These Tablets are good, infact I am sure some students have not let theirs out of their sight since they received it. However, this is a case of doing the right thing at the wrong time.

Looking at it from the perspective of a student, this is the best thing the government has ever done for them in their lives. Atleast now they get to own a sophisticated gadget. I am very happy for them.
Your cart before the horse analogy does not seem to hold water, you have failed to prove that renovating the classrooms must be completed, before the OSSG can start handing out the tablets to the students.I opined that the two can be done simultaneously, since they are independent of each other.

The tablets is an educational aid useful for the "kids" anywhere they find themselves e.g at home, outside the state, out of the country, in the jungle, in the shrine, in a no network area, in the toilet and bathroom grin ... Now i will implore you to use this different lens to look at the initiative.

It is actually a street smart initiative, why will the government wait till they renovate all the schools, that may take over 4 years(Remember Osun state earns less than 25% of Rivers state) and renovation and school upgrade might take a longer time. The State Government has commited 30 billion naira to build 170 model schools to cater for all rungs on the secondary school class ladder, i am aware work is in progress.

evanscjmac: its computer the problem? please you guys should visit the schools to see how poor they are, no chairs and desk, student have to seat on the floor to write their exams or receive lecture. How effective is the laptops to the standard of the education in Osun state? i am currently serving there and i know what we are passing through. 90 percent of the public school are totally bad, were they have few teachers who have not or are yet to receive their salaries since January and you are sharing laptops. my school is a case study, since the beginning of this term, no English teacher, chemistry, physics, literature, mathematics. The govt of Osun state should have a rethink and help this students. i used to think that the northern part has the worst education not until i came to Osun. 60 percent of the student don't hear English even and you are sharing laptops. nonsense
You need to realise that the state govt. giving out this tablet is not a "magic bullet" to solve the educational problems in the state, that does not mean the state govt will henceforth fold its arms, and refuse to take steps to fix other rots in the educational system. I am certain the government realise and knows the level of rot in virtually all the Primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

Many of you need to realise that the problems in the educational sector sometimes requires a form of "street smart" ideas in fixing the problems at least in part.

Even if we see the tablet simply as a textbook, which i am sure has more features, it is going to be effective.

One of the biggest problem of most students in schools is access to text books (at least 80% of them)

Please conduct a random sampling on the boldened and come back on this thread with the result.

If you fix that singular problem, you will be surprised with the improvement, you can get.

Infact, many of the so- called teachers in sec. schools, do they really teach in the true definition of teaching ? I have discovered many only come to class to dictate notes they have lifted straight from textbooks and claim to be teaching. grin

My personal experience as a student, when i was in senior sec. 1, my school designed the lecture timetable in a way , you can only take one of further maths or economics. I attended the further maths classes, while in ss2 i sat for a GCE exam in economics with the aid of textbook and past questions only, i had distinction (A3).

The problem is multidimensional, what is necessary is to implement optimal solutions, in the shortest of time.

i believe the tablet distribution is one of the optimal solutions

I understand the concept my guy. However, Nobody seems to know the state of Public schools in Osun.

That the contract contains a support service wasnt stated either, so I wouldnt know. So let me ask how you are getting your information.

That it is a great Concept will depend on its use and long term effect which is yet to be seen.
That it is a great concept does not correlate with the long term effect. It is already a great concept!

Concept as in Conceptualisation starts from the beginning, it is either great or shallow.
