Thanks for taking the time to write this extensive reply.
I don't intend to go work in the US. I want to stay in Canada on working permit until I get my Canadian passport before thinking any thought of further relocating to the US for the sake of the passport.
I currently have an immigrant petition approved and only just waiting for available date.
My intention is to get a fresh breath in Nigeria and used the opportunity to attend my interview and on my way back if given the visa, get into US to visit my sister.
** If your intention is just to visit and you have a good job , then process it from Canada. There are conferences , seminars , business visits etc that can grant you an emergency appointment. ** Your sister can even facilitate your visit via other reasonable reasons.
** If your intention is to finally relocate or be able to live in both countries simultaneously then read the following ;
1. The major shareholders (nuclear family) of your ties are already in Canada, therefore , you don't have much ties to proof in Nigeria again . Other ties to proof are extended family, businesses etc which are all unreliable ties .
2. Patience is a great virtue . Don't come for the interview in Nigeria (cancel your appointments if possible) . Nigeria is not running away neither is your sister running away in America (visiting your sister in USA is a feeble excuse , she can visit you in Canada too). You can keep pace with both your sister and Nigeria via social media's because if your visa is denied , you will waste flight ticket and its going to be a stain on your future USA visa record and return dejected to Canada for other solutions which I will outline below ;
SOLUTION ==≈=====
3. I have Six (6) friends who presently works in Sterlin Heights , Michigan, USA but they live in Ontario, Canada. ** I also know 7 Canada PRs who carry loads to USA on B1/B2 visas as truck drivers .
4. Talk to your sister in the USA for possible jobs offer from a US companies who have annexes in Canada. You must also involve the service of an Immigration attorney. Let them process H-1B visa for you .
5. Involve the service of a USA Immigration attorney (don't hire Canada attorney) . They knows the gimmick of the game. From your H-1B you can finally move to the USA with your family via *L-1 Visa:** For intracompany transferees.
6. Leave your kids to face their studies . They are your tie in Canada and can sort themselves out by transferring to any US institutions later. They now have the better chances than you and your wife .
I and my family of 4 applied for a US B1/B2visa in 2020 but was cancelled by the embassy due to covid. I later had it rescheduled for April 23, 2024.
But here is the issue, we are all in Canada now on work permit while the kids are on study permit.
I need to see my sister in the US and I am also missing home. But attempt to get a early date here in Canada has been unsuccessful.
I thinking of flying back to Nigeria alone to attend the interview but I am wondering if my chance of getting the visa approved is weak since my ties( family, Job, Homes and others) are no longer in Nigeria.

Someone deposited a co-operative cheque worth 1.5m into my account in December 2021 as my monthly contribution with interest repayment for the year 2021. I submitted my application on the 16th January and eligibility has not started but medical passed.
Should I raise LOE via webfrom and or email to explain the lump sum as it was not variously mentioned in my SOP? Sadly I don't have document to back it up although the name on the cooperative appearance in the back statement.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I find this attached section confusing. Should I put the Western Union details on the section requesting correspondence bank information since I do not have the school direct account details?
Does anyone know how the new trade monitoring system works on FORM A for school fees payment using Western union business payment? My college has refused to give me its direct account details.
I received admission for a PGD in Lambton College. I went to the bank in an attempts to pay with Form A but the bank claimed they would need to flywire information of the school before they are effect payment on CBN platform. Sadly, they have refused to make the payment.
Bobomaigida: Whilst they don't do deferral, you can withdraw your application and reapply for same program for another intake period, more like starting from scratch.
I doubt if this is the actual reason for the refusal. He or she should apply for GCMs note to determine the exact reason for refusal. This because on this platform, we have seen people with less amount and some have not even made deposit for school fees, yet got their application approved.
quin9: If that’s the case, the money is small, yes it’s enough for the fees and living expense but you can’t use up all you have to get a degree, she needs to have that amount and a lot more to prove financial capability my opinion
Since you said you have nobody to sponsor you which I don't really understand, If you have enough money to sponsor your education in Canada, then you can be a self sponsored applicant... But there is more to being Self sponsored, do you have dependents, do you have assets in your home country, apart from your studies, do you have more than enough to cater for your other expenses, also do you have a solid inflow and outflow of transactions in the past months?
Remember Visa officers do not just look at the closing balance, they also check the transaction history of the statement of account submitted to know if the inflow and outflow of the Self sponsored applicant is convincing enough...
If I was previously refused a tourist visa in the past and never reapplied again but would want to now apply for Study permit, would I have to write an LOE or only SOP is required?
SOP - Statement of Purpose The theme of a SOP is geared more towards the first time visa applicants. In this case, the applicant will more likely talk about how the advance studies is going to complement past academics and how it will brighten up the future career scope. In addition, various other topics will be addressed such as capability to finance studies & living cost, why particular program, why Canada, why particular institution etc.
LOE - Letter of Explanation The theme of a LOE is geared more towards the re-applicants (after their visa has been rejected in past). In this case, the applicant will start first-half of the letter by explaining what went wrong in previous applications and on what ground it was rejected. How those issues are addressed in the present application. In the later part of the letter the usual SOP stuff goes in.
See the link below for Letter of Explanation (LOE) to address/tackle refusal reasons (Format and Sample in Video)
Okay. Please give it one more try. The third maybe your lucky number but before applying again, ensure you order your Gcms note. VO claiming you and your family members accompanying you is strange.
You must find how come the VO arrived at that and what he or she was thinking since you are the only person traveling.
Davidbanky: Bro! I’m going alone … the only family I have is a wife. She’s not even going with me.
You were denied on two reasons. 1. Financial 2. And Home ties.
Now, you will see clearly that the VO stated that the finance will not be enough for you are your accompanying family. Honestly, I think that amount is small for all family. You should have left them behind.
Going with them as stated in the denial further weakened your home ties.
A Big congrats to you. I find getting 10 years visa a huge success especially as I am struggling to apply for 2years even after getting and using 6 months visa in the past.
Where you having 5years visa before now? What would you considered extra in 5years documentation that would help approval? Have you travelled to Canada and US in the Past?
richfaxy: Finally got the mail for collection of my passport today. Went to TLS to pickup my passport
Biometrics was done on 3rd September 2021 TLS Mail for Passport pick 5th October 2021 Proposed date to travel has passed Visa was issued.
A friend of mine is interested in this Canada dream especially for benefits his children who are both below 15 years old. He is 49 now and his wife is 48 years old respectively. If he applied for a college now and luckily secures admission as well as study permit, he would be 50years old at the time of school resumption in September 2022 and 55years old after 2yrs program and 3yrs PGWP completion.
Do you think he stands any chance of get Permanent Residency via provincial route of course, Federal is not going to be possible at that age??
Like I told him, he should wait for his children to attain 18years and process a study visa for them instead. But he want to Japaaa without further delay.
Where you able to secure a 2 years PGC program in NBCC? I am interested in applying for Human Resources Management but it is only offered for one year and I learnt it is better to do a 2years program.
My mum's interview scheduled originally since March 2020 is finally in 2 weeks time. It was moved 3 times by the embassy, as at last check, date is still intact in her portal. I just want to know if I can fill a new DS-160 form, because circumstances have changed in the last 1 year, including reasons for traveling, my sister's status- job and marriage so she is now an immigrant.
For me, I think going for 2years program is way better because the cost of multiple 1 year cost will be far expensive.
Close your eyes and go for it. Lambton is rated among the top 5 best colleges in Canada. Both your course of study and the college are highly rated that could reason for the expensive tuition and other fees
pjosh1: You can go for the 1-year program I don’t think the duration of your program will affect your SP application, countless of pple on this platform have gotten sp with one year program. If you’re worried about d duration of your PGWP you can easily apply for another program in the same school after completing your program or another school in Canada and you’ll still get 3-year PGWP. What matters the most is getting visa
Do your research on them one by one, take your time & check the course curriculum of each programs etc, tuition amount for international students, if you see the one that suites you, apply.
As regards, province with better chance for permanent residency after study, i have no idea on that, try to await the response of the gurus on that or better still go to the LIVING IN CANADA THREAD to make enquiries, Nigerian Immigrants in the HR field located in different provinces of CANADA would be able to advise you based on their experiences.
I applied for a tourist visa and was denied by the VO for purpose of Travel only. I order for a Gcms note. The note revealed that the purpose of travel is Vague and poorly document. See attached!
Can someone help with a draft on how to address this? I intend to apply again next week.
Thanks, Thanks, Thanks. And Thanks. In fact, a million thanks to you for taking your time to type a lengthy text to offer me the best understanding on what would be helpful to me. Like you right pointed out, STEM is purely sciences and that's where my first degree and diploma falls into. As advice I would look out going for a social science business related course because of my work experience.
If I may ask, it is possible to change your course of study when you are already approved visa and in Canada soil? I love my science Lab coat and professional, because I nor get job for my field, I landed in the banking sector.
1. though your first degree is related to the intended masters prog, there is a huge study gap; 2. your intended masters program is not related to your present work.
Applicants in your type of situation are usually advised to go for programs that relate to their present work/business.
However, IF you can give a cogent and tangible explanation in your SOP for switching because of your academic background, (for example you ardent desire to still go back to health sciences notwithstanding your many years of work experience in the banking industry), you MAY scale through.
Correct me if I am wrong: I think Microbiology is a health science and not a social science, right? I am not sure if STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) includes social science courses. You will need to research into that. And I think your chances are higher if you go for Business/Finance related Masters program.
Yeah. It helps me greatly. Thanks for taking time out to offer this detailed reply with your own personal experience.
I even started working a year before my graduation and I have remained in that same job up till his hour but it is unfortunate that my course of study does not related to my current job. Although I would love to continue and pursue a higher degree on what I studied in the university rather than a complete change.
I have a diploma and Bsc in Microbiology but working in a bank as marketer for 14 years now. I love my sciences, but from what you are saying, my chances are higher if I consider social science related Master program.
Explain what you have been up to since you left school (study gap). Hopefully, if you have been working or were engaged in something related to your intended master's program, I think you are good to go.
I graduated in 2001(LL.B)/2003(B.L), had over a decade work experience and applied for a Study Permit in 2021 for a PGC in a law related course. The rest, as they say, is history.
If you are financially grounded and can prove the source of income, nothing stops you from sponsoring yourself.
Are you saying it is usually an issue and quickest way of refusal if your current employment does not match or related to course you intend to undergo in your master degree?
Jonesdozi: One red flag here is you're going to a Masters in computer science, but your current employment is not related to it. So why are you going for such MSc? Secondly In stead of saying your dad distribute stock fish, you make it more appealing. The VO might not know what stock fish. Let me know if you need additional help preparing for your next appointment.
Is this compulsory for the Msc to be related to your employer?

Thanks. This reply is a huge encouragement. I was having the fear that is would be a complete waste of time and resources, looking at the long study gap and that assumed "difficulty in seeking a study permit"
Faithyyyyy: definitely. I applied for a study permit for a 2nd masters degree when my first degree was from 2009 and got my approval within a month.
my brother has a 13-year study gap and has also applied.
