You are talking of poverty? I saw some massive corns, and a lot of bleached legs where the hard spots remain dark and the rest had a different colour. . . In short, i found legs where the veins were blue, enough stretchmarks, toes that have severe fungus, black toe nails, toes with no nails at all. . . It was an eye-opener oh grin

We should have a few girls representing us in beach volleyball in the next olympics. Preferably from the Nothern states. Hahahahahahahahahahhaahha

If some people here feel its disgusting kissing a womans feet, lets not go to the other area of where we should also be kissing wink.
It is like the total experience of love, for you to be able to kiss a woman all over her body, including the feet.
That is what makes the biblical story of Mary (who broke expensive perfume and used to rub the LORDS feet - with her hair) interesting. It showed her humility, love, regard, etc etc.
If my madam wants me to rub her feet, or kiss them or suck her toes, i will do it to make her happy. BUT THEY HAD BETTER BE CLEAN SHA!
If she also wants me to rub or kiss somewhere else, grin, who am i to complain?

@Kongi

As far as i am concerned, we are saying the same thing but from different perspectives. My own arguement has been that "doctors do not necessarily have to be the hightest paid" (like you have also stated). I believe they should be WELL PAID and able to afford ALL the basic things they need, unlike what obtains back at home.

I also understand that most NEW doctors IN TRAINING are british. Most likely because they are trying to regulate (or whatever word best suits this) their system from being overrun by foreigners. I understand this well cos i know of many classmates who left (after slaving away in hospitals for a few years) because they could not get into this training thingy.

My brother, we are arguing on the same side but from different perspectives.

My initial arguement that probably upset you is still what i hold close to my heart. That most (if not all) professionals in Nigeria are underpaid, which includes doctors. Nowhere did i state that they should not be paid according to their importance in society.

Funny enough, since yesterday wey i see this thread, i just dey analyze black women's feet, on the train, on the tube, on the streets, and even on the bus. . . Words cannot describe a fraction of what i've discovered, kissing a woman's feet is the last thing i want to do right now if that woman is black! grin
My goodness, and here i am thinking that i am the only one doing this. I have been comparing white, black, brown and all the feet that i come in contact with. Honestly, black feet do not seem to be as well kept and manicured as the white ones.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR BLACK SISTERS? POVERTY?

I really love well kept feet, nails, skin, etc etc,

You amaze me with this your statement. You now believe that anyone who is a doctor is creme de la creme when medical school is going to the highest bidder in Nigeria. All these stuff of being the la creme is balderdash. I know in my class in secondary school guys who shot 8A's and did not want to go into medicine but some who lined carbon chain went in pursuit medicine because of this feeling you have here. Some succeeded after some years and other did all sorts of things to come and you say creme what? People are going into medicine because of the societies perception of the profession. In Eastern Europe, every body is going for Architecture because that is what pays. No body cares about medicine and doctors are not highest paid and they still deliver quality services.

So the aeronautic engineer or the pharmacist etc is not creme de la creme? Please be real. In the UK here, do you know that the GP is paid more than the resident and even some consultants? Why, because pay is based on the amount of work you do not based on the amount of book you have read. Please come down from the high horse if that is why you studied medicine. Those who talk most are those who entered medical school through remedial courses or the famous pre-science. grin grin grin grin. And the worst are those who spent 2 years extra in school.
Lol. Hahahaahhaha. Good man, good analogy and the very truth. I have also noticed that over here in the UK, the typical brits do not rush into medicine also. Their medical sector is made up of so many foreigners.

Can I use a real life example?
I graduated from med school in 2001.
As an HO, I earned 50k monthly after tax.
I went to serve in the north and was paid 28k a month.
The highest paid doctor in my state earned 33k and the lowest we knew about was 11k.
It is common knowledge that doctors take a pay cut during NYSC.
You can indeed earn 200k if you are willing to be unethical but a lot of us swore an oath and this oath is sacrosanct
NYSC doctors today still earn 15k or 18k a month, I kid you not!
Post NYSC doctors take home less than 40k in many private hospitals in Lagos, Kano, Umuahia, Kontagora, Ilorin and especially Abuja!
You may say what gives doctors the right to earn much more than that?
Like it or not, doctors are supposed to be the creme de la creme of our brains and should be rewarded as such.
Remove all prejudices and try to recall the dullest 40% of your classmates in primary or secondary school,
Now picture any of them as the doctor looking after your 3 day old son,
Medicine is a humanitarian field, I hear some dreamers state on this forum,
I have not heard a more dangerous statement!
It is a field for the most professional of professionals who has the highest level of dedication to his duty.
It is not a voluntary service!
We should recompense them as adequaely as possible or the best of the best of the nations intellects will leave for where they will get a salary commisurate with their qualifications.
I recall that on the day I graduated from medical school, there was a merit list of 26. Of the 26, only 1 is left in Nigeria!
This is a statistic that should fill our leaders with dread but they feel the same as many on this forum.

Pray that you don't fall ill o! It's a lottery whether you survive it as it is. Soon, nobody will read medicine in Naija.
As a medical doctor myself, I will not advice my kids to study medicine with the aim of practicing in Naija unless they understand the implications:
a life just above the poverty line with no appreciation of the sacrifices you made to get there!

@Epiphany, my most sincere hope is that someone like you never gets into a position of authority or influence. Your myopic views are quite frankly a disgrace and I don't usually respond to such tunnel views but for you Sir, I will make an exception.
Naija o ni baje
sad
In other words, what you are saying is that doctors should be singled out and paid quite a lot? That is not a very nice statement. I live in the UK and over here, you find out that some ARTISANS, people who did not necessarily go to universities but decided to go into plumbing, carpentry etc, sometimes earn more than doctors with the same 'level' of experience. Why? Because the country considers their profession to be almost, if not equally as important.

I am not relegating doctors to the background. All i am saying is that the importance they ascribe to themselves is unbecoming. They are not the only ones in the country who are 'suffering'.

Again, i am not against doctors. I come from a family of four. Dad, Mom, me and my junior brother. Both parents are Professors of Medicine (Doctors in a teaching hospital) and my junior brother is doing his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. Funny enough, he served in Adamawa in 2002 and passed through the 'rubbish' salary scales doctors continually grumble about, he also grumbled daily until he left Nigeria. Like i said, he is now a doing his residency and has told me that he has met many artisans over here who earn more than he does, IS HE COMPLAININGhuh NO. WHY? Because whether he earns what they earn or more, the basic necessities are still available to him.
CareerRe: Doctors And Their Pay Packets by Epiphany(m): 5:12pm On Aug 18, 2008
Topics like this annoy me. How can people be arguing that doctors are badly paid, WHEN ALMOST EVERY EMPLOYEE IN NIGERIA IS PAID BADLY? Is it because doctors go to school for 6 years and do a one year internship that they should be paid more? What of the lecturers in schools who after their BSc or BA degree's go on to Masters and PhD level. Have they not dedicated their lives to 'book' too?

Apart from that, you cant single out doctors in the health sector and say that they should be paid more. What about the Nurses, technicians, physiotherapists, pharmacists, physiologists etc, who are not doctors but contribute immensely to the success of doctors?
The same thing happens in Universities. Today, ASUU (academic staff union) will go on strike because they want more money. Tomorrow, NASU (non academic staff union) will go on strike too because the academic staff have not fought for them, but for themselves.

LOOK PEOPLE, the whole country is in shambles so let us not single out doctors and say they are badly paid. What of the people who teach the doctors to be doctors, who are not doctors themselves? Dont they deserve some 'good pay' for training these doctors?

The animal called Obasanjo is speaking again? 8 years in power with nothing to show? Now he is leaving it to God! I know it is not in our culture to abuse our elders (one of our great problems in nigeria today) and i am asking for forgiveness in advance. The old man is stupid. He has no sense of what is honourable and honest. He has marked his own turn at the helm of affairs and gone now. Once again, i am ashamed to say that i am a Nigerian. How can a former leader say this kind of thing? The way we trivialise God in our country is amazing.

Correct man! Your hands will never grow short.

This guy is right. Now that yar'adua and his idiot colleague (GMD) have paid (or claim to have paid) these groups, they have started another problem. Once you begin to answer terrorists, wahala don start because they will continue to milk you for all you are worth. That is why Americans (even at the expense of their president's safety) will NEVER NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORISTS. once you give in, you will continue to give in.

Again, what were the stupid house of reps doing when they were told that 1.4billion was given to some nonentities? Did they clap and say, 'well done' or did they wonder what nigeria is getting into? THEY SHOULD HAVE THROWN YAR'ADUA AND HIS IDIOTS OUT OF THE CHAMBER FOR GROSS NEGLIGENCE OF DUTY AND FOR MAKING STUPID DECISIONS.

My fellow nairalanders, i am sorry for my outburst but to be honest, these kind of headlines annoy and upset me. Some guys are struggling to eke a living in various parts of the country and the stupid govt officials are giving out money that is not theirs.

I am in no way blaming the militants o, in fact truth be said, I AM ALL FOR THEM. i have often said that if i have the means, i will buy more guns and greenade launchers for them. I will even tell them where to go and blow up, because i believe that they are fighting for something that they believe in. My arguement is with the government. WHY DID YOU GIVE THEM THAT MONEY INSTEAD OF DOING WHAT THEY HAVE ASKED FOR?

How can you cough out that amount of money and give to social vagabonds? Is the money not enough to start giving them the goodies they are looking for? With that money you can at least start fixing their roads and thinking of how to provide good health services for them.
IS THIS GOVERNMENT CRAZY, *holding my head in annoyance and shame*
I swear to God, these people in Govt no go die betta o. I cant understand this country. 1.4billion. Tommorow now, that useless Oyo state governor will say that the money he is accused of mis managing was part of the funds he gave to some un named group to ensure that Oyo state remains at peace, following the death of Adedibu.
WE ARE BEING TAKEN FOR FOOLS IN THIS COUNTRY SHA!
PoliticsRe: NNPC Paid Militants 1.4 Billion Naira by Epiphany(m): 12:38pm On Jul 24, 2008
Na lie, NNPC did not pay anybody that sum of money. 1.4b, na yam?
Nigerians, being the smart people they are, are trying to play the divide and 'confuse' tactics. They claim they paid the money, but MEND is saying that they paid the money to 'another' group and not them. Why is this group nameless. How can NNPC carry 1.4billion naira and give to a nameless and/or faceless group. ARE THEY MAD?
Someone or some people have 'chopped' that money. Granted, they may have paid something, maybe 10million or even 50million to some smaller groups but to cough out 1.4billion and give to an UNKNOWN GROUP IS MADNESS.
Ok now, ALL NIGERIANS SHOULD PICK UP GUNS AND START A WAR THEN. What nonsense. who do these people think they are fooling? Fools?
We certainly are not fools o and we know what is going on!
CareerRe: Highest Paying Banks In Nigeria? by Epiphany(m): 1:13pm On Jul 04, 2008
I think the reason why everyone is so interested in working with banks is that collectively, they are the single largest employers of labour, correct me if i am wrong. Other than that, i think they sometimes project a very 'professional' image, with their sharp dressing, image and speech. Many times too, i think they live beyond their means, with all the loans they can take out, performance incentives and so on.

But like many of us have mentioned, do they really know or learn anything? I have friends who are bankers and have been for years and all they have done for years is to chase accounts and money. Others just push papers and act as 'rich mens associates', looking after large accounts. This may be what hinders them from being self employed because they dont have particular skills, except those who have worked in the IT sections and other professional departments within the banks. Personally, that is why i think you find young men and women, hopping from bank to bank, with each hop sending them a few steps up the ladder!

But hey, if you can do that and put food on your table, please go ahead by all means.

THE BEST THOUGH IS TO BE SELF EMPLOYED, OR TO BE IN SUCH A POSITION WHERE YOU CAN LEARN A LOT TO EVENTUALLY BECOME USEFUL TO YOURSELF

Who says you shouldn't dream, but stop dreaming like hiltler!, they are killing us!

if you reside in Nigeria, look around you, see the effects!! of their "dreams", the poverty is very evident.

In fact, I ask again, why do they need to open a branch in ghana, or the UK?,

We need this money, or you no like good thing?, if this country is better and we have the basic good things of life, constant electricity, good roads, cheap and affordable water, that dream they wish to go to ghana or UK to achieve, all those investors they want, will come begging.

Are you telling me, these banks cannot delete electricity problem?

OK, typical case scenario, why does Zenith need to go start visafone, why not create a new NEPA!!!, or a NEW refinery!!!,

This country is run by you and I. Look at this simple story line; as far back as '76 when OBJ had power, we have been complaining about our economy, at this time Bello Osagie, UBA big boy only received a bachelor's degree from cambridge, which means, he might have began feeling a soft hardship of what we are feeling now, and continue doing so, same thing with Jim Ovia, he only got a BSC in 77, now, what does this say?, it means they once felt a part of how we feel, and they worked out something which landed them in banking, the then critical question is, IS THIS HOW WE WILL WORK OUT SOMETHING IN 10-20yrs time? and forget about Nigeria?, and how will our work affect our developing our economy?, as meagre as what this mega financial institutions, IF so, when will Nigeria begin to develop?

Obvsiouly, we all know people in power will continue to put their families and friends there, so, that one is a hard nut to crack, saraki will put his son, and his daugher, and so will OBJ, it's only natural for the greed to pass on, however, the non-goverment sector, which we dream of, what'll be the effect on Nigeria as a whole?,

kai!!!!, anyhow sha, nothin dey happen.

@ Jairzinho, I thank you for creating this thread!
Sorry, i would love to comment on this thread. I AGREE TOTALLY. With the situation going on in Nigeria, i believe that if HALF OF ALL THE BANKS IN NIGERIA come together, they can tackle this electricity problem, and tell the governement to go to hell. Then, people will begin to derive the benefits of having these banks around. I can only remember how Ajose Adeogun street on V/I used to look, yet, Zenith owns almost all the buildings on the street (a little exageration, i know). It took them so many years to wake up and tar that street, and yet they were making so much money off the nigerians and the economy. What are all the other banks doing with their money? Sponsoring politicians? They should build refineries, power stations, etc
BusinessRe: Nigerian Banks That Advertise On CNN by Epiphany(m): 12:43pm On Jul 04, 2008
With the growth of business and 'opportunities' that the nigerian sector MAY see in future, they are just positioning themselves to reap more benefits. Looking at the position Nigeria occupies in the West Africa sector, the need for foreign companies to use local banks is what is making our local guys beat their drums on CNN. I mean, look at the number of 'young' Multinationals in Nigeria - Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, IBM, HP etc. Very soon, you will start hearing of Google and others. These are of course, excluding the 'older' multinationals like Shell, Chevron, Mobil etc etc.

Having said all that, i have carried out extensive research and projects on Business Ethics and CSR. Our Banks are not doing much in that area. Yes, i know that they donate to schools, give scholarships etc etc, but these are not what social responsibility entails. These are just donations that aim to give these banks a sense of 'having done something'. CSR is meant to lay a good foundation and/or framework that will ensure continuity and determination in the way lives and the social sector grow. Banks are not sponsoring meaningful projects or causes. They are mainly in operation to enrich their owners and shareholders and not to empower the stakeholders.

In essence, i think the banks should do more at home first, before advertising themselves to the world. Imagine the average foreigner seeing those adverts on their screens. Their first impression is to wonder what those 'Nigerians' are up to again!

Nigeria without oil is in big trouble. Yes, i know that there are a lot more resources here that should keep us afloat and prosperous, but all that is only talk for now!
The transition period between the 'end' of the oil era and the 'discovery' of new minerals is going to be very difficult. Knowing our 'foolishness', even if we are told that the oil will finish in the next 10 years, we will not start planning for other resources NOW. As usual, we will take the firebrigade approach and wait for the oil to dry up completely first.
THERE WILL BE A LOT OF SUFFERING.

I have been enamoured by China's astronomic growth in the last decade but this years's olympics and the recent earthquake has further endeared me to that country. I am in my late 20's and i can authoritatively say that i never had any positive view of China while growing up.The only thing i knew about them was Chinese Movies.
If you have been folowing the way China has been handling the recent earthquake especially the huge lake that they are trying to control, you cannnot but doff your hat. What? I Wonder even if the US could have done it better? I haven't mentioned the great structures and preparation they are making for the Olympics. If u watch Discovery , u must have seen some of them on the programme 'Great Structures' or whats the name?. In my little corner as a public analyst with cerebral limitations, there are things China did that i think we can copy.
They looked inwards. China turned its back against the world for the early part of the last two decades. I am not talkin about the Iranian kind but the Libyan example. Libya was a pariah nation for most of the last 20years but today they are sending our children home. We need to really look inwards. How many times did Chairman Mao(whoever is it?) or Libyan Qaddaffi travel all over the world looking for help in the last 20 years. Thw world order is already established. The poor have been seperated friom the rich and its very didfficulut for poor countries to break the viciuos cycle using the current structutre put in place by the rich. Its not just possible. Few countries like Malaysia or the eastern europeans might have benefitted from the structure but thats very rare. LET US LOOK INWARD. We need to practise a kind of 'half hearted Globalisation'i.e we recognise that we are in globalised world but we still want to show the world that we want to solve our problems.Right now we are not and thats why we hardly quarell with the developed world.Lets be truthful to ourselves,if we express a strong independent will to solve our problems, the developed world will tell us we can't but i tell you a kind of respect develops. They will still come with their 'help' but we will only take what we need. The terrible thing about investment and aids is that it caused AIDS, yes AIDS(Aids and Investment Dependency syndrome). Its a warped belief that without aids and investment we can't grow.Baldersdash. I aint sayiing investment ,aids and grants are terrible but dependence on them is.Which investment came into Libya for most of the last two decades?
A colleague of mine was opportuned to a attend a conference of late and Sonnie Ayere of UBA spoke there. This guy's insight on how to use our excess funds i learnt was novel and mind blowing. Look at the AFC's proposition about solving the power problem. It was shot down. AFC was organised by Sloudo just in attempt to prove that we can solve Africa's problem. AFC's proposal has not seen the light of the day, instead the Senate has decided to probe it.For me, Until we repsyche ourselves that we can solve our problems alone,we wont develop.Mind u,we cannot develop wihout the help of others. No,we can't but we must be in a position to know the help we need and the ones we don't.China while it looked really inward knew the help to take and not to. It worked for them. This leads to some broader issues like leadership, human resource development, politics etc. I hope to be able to contribute as time goes on. For now i think i have to stop cheating my employer.

NB:i ask for forgiveness from those who might be riled by my amateurism or grammatical blunders.
Correct man. Well written!
PropertiesRe: Why Pay House Rent In Advance? by Epiphany(m): 2:03pm On Jun 11, 2008
i live in the UK and over here, you pay what is called a 'bond'. This equates to about one month's worth of rent. This is done so that if you do anything that has to make the landlord pay for repairs, he can use the monies you've paid as a bond. Most times, as far as i know (like in my case), the money is kept by the estate agents.

When you are finally leaving the house, you, the landlord and estate agent will go over the house, trying to ascertain that the house is in good shape (at least to the level at which it was given to you). If it is, you get your cheque on the spot withouth any arguement.

This of course, is different from paying 2 YEARS WORTH OF RENT, THAT, AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED IS MADNESS.

But wait, everying in Naija is madness, driving, housing, power, education etc. WE NEED TO CHANGE THIS OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I CANT CONTINUE LIVING IN THIS COUNTRY. I AM TIRED AND WANT TO COME HOME!
Foreign AffairsRe: Africa Needs Investment, Not Aid by Epiphany(m): 1:57pm On Jun 11, 2008

OUR PROBLEM IS LEADERSHIP AND SAD TO SAY, FOLLOWERSHIP TOO. OUR PROBLEMS ARE US

We need to change our collective attitudes, behaviour and psyche.

You know, i often wonder - even though it is very unlikely, whether our leaders really care about us and our country. Do they care about what people are saying about them on the pages of the dailies? Do they worry that we, the youth, are cursing them and their families?
I also wonder whether i would be happy if my father is in governement. How will i feel if i click on websites like 'nairaland' and find out that people are abusing my parents. I think i will be filled with great shame.
Why is it that these leaders cannot listen or learn from the times and events around them? The same things happen over and over again and yet nothing is being done.
Now, the price of has gone up exponentially. What is Yar'Adua doing with the surplus. WHY CANT HE JUST FIX THE GOD DAMN ROADS? INFRASTRUCTURE? Man, i am so ashamed of Nigeria, really ashamed. After reading Richard Branson's biography (Losing my virginity), HE HIMSELF, admits to the fact that he cant even bear the though of mathematical equations and that is why HE EMPLOYS PEOPLE TO DO ALL THAT FOR HIM. He claims to have suffered dyslexia as a child and young man, hence his decision not to pursue academics. Yet, this is a man who is one of the richest in the UK.

Shut the fu/ck up!!LIAR
3rd class works in TOTAL? you are having a laff or you are either cooking your response up!
Unless your friend knows someone there who has given him the job not on merit but on personal recognition, then there is no way he can do a graduate job in TOTAL with a 3rd class, absolutely load of ruffle rubbish from u!
No disrespect u can work in TOTAL with a 3rd class but what you do and level of responsibility depends ( You could be  a gaurd, cook, driver, engineering assistants and logistics personnel) and i certainly don't agree your friend does a job Above graduate level qualification with a 3RD CLASS unless na "connection"

You CAN PROVE IT TO US ALL

@Poster
My guy, with your 3RD CLASS, you can still go all the way, just rack up more qualifications and keep working hard picking up any work experience chances here and there
Not all the 1st class or 2nd class graduates earned, deserved and succeed with it believe me!
HAHAHAHAHHAHAAH, dee, why are you so upset?

Dude, while you sit back asking if there is any hope for you because you made a 3rd class, life is passing you by. Dont be bothered by what you made, but look for ways to 'wipe' that off your slate.
There are numerous certification exams you can take, which most multinational companies will rather accept, over your BSc or BA degree. there is Prince2 or PMP for project managers, Cisco exams (CCNA CCIE CC** etc) for those who are computer oriented and a host of others.
I know people who came out of school with even worse degree's but are making it today, either on their own or employed by companies.
Apart from that, we often talk about the high and mighty in the world and many of them do not even have degrees - Bill Gates, Richard Branson, and even our own Dangote (i have never known anyone to say he has a degree but i may be wrong).
Just think positive, my friend, and work towards something greater,
Nairaland GeneralRe: How Has Nairaland Changed Your Life? by Epiphany(m): 2:34pm On May 12, 2008
Dudes, Nairaland is like our own little constitutional conference, where everyone comes with his/her own greviance, complaint, contribution and suggestion to how Naija can be great again. Even though there are topics on issues not concerning Naija, the bottom line most times is how Naija is affected by events.
What has excited me the most is seeing how people still hold on to their little trivial issues and biases. It has shown me that we are still very TRIBALISTIC, SEXIST and SHORT SIGHTED. Ibo's don't like yoruba's and vice versa, hausa's don't like either of the two. Muslims speak 'evil' of christians while Christians do the same in return etc etc. The only difference here is that NAIRALAND has given everyone the opportunity to air his or her views without carrying guns or bombs (except where our brother, Seun's life, was threatened)
All said, it is a very good avenue to get views on what and how we as nigerians think and behave.
A BIG THANKS TO SEUN,
PoliticsRe: Al-Qaeda Plans To Bomb Nigeria? by Epiphany(m): 2:29pm On May 12, 2008
Lol, lol, lol. My God, we are funny sha! While someone wants to wear suicide belt, another says that this is all a ploy so that Yar'adua will release more money for Okiro and his robbers to chop.
Nothing like a little controversy to bring out the best in Naija's. We are an incredible bunch sha! We are talking of some lunatics threatening to bomb naija and people are humouring it all. I LIKE THAT!
CARRY GO JARE, MY PEOPLE. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN CONTINUE TO SURVIVE IN THIS 'HELLHOLE' (PERMIT THE USE OF THAT WORD FOR WANT OF ANOTHER) CALLED NAIJA!
