CareerRe: Fintrak Software Wants Me To Sign 4 Years Bond, Is There Anyone Experience ? by etrange: 10:04pm On Nov 19, 2020
What kind of bond? What's the implication of walking away before the end of the four years? I'm asking cause it all depends on the terms. Years back, I got a job that required me to sign such and according to the terms, I would be practically tied down within the four year period. I interpreted that to mean they'd been experiencing high employee turn over, and instead of them to find out what's making their people leave, they wanted to do a brute force approach by asking new employees to sign ridiculous agreements. So I turned down the offer. And guess what, they called me back and scrapped the idea. Did I eventually join them, that's a story for another day.

This is actually very common in the Nigerian software industry. The first answer that came to my mind was "don't sign that!" but your case might be different as there are factors to consider such as the terms of the contract, your experience level and how desperate you are (or how confident you are about easily getting another offer) and also, your age (how old you'd be after after the four year period might affect your employability then if your experience level doesn't level up, and they know this).

Best of luck!

FamilyRe: Can A Non Legally Married Couple Seek For A Legal Divorce? by etrange: 6:28pm On Nov 16, 2020
Only legally married couples can be legally separated (divorced).

Nigerian law envisages 3 types of marriages namely; traditional/customary marriage; church/Islamic marriage and statutory marriage. However, since many churches are recognised as statutory places of worship, couples married in such churches are issued both church marriage certificate and statutory marriage certificate (normally signed after the wedding ceremony in the presence or witnesses). The Matrimonial Cause Act aimed at regulating only statutory marriage (which by extension now includes church marriage). The dissolution requirements of these types of marriages are somewhat incompatible seeing that Islamic marriage and customary marriage have the potential to become polygamous, a system not recognised by the statutory law. Although these conflicts are still there (just like many other Nigerian laws begging for amendment), the unique nature of Islamic marriage has made it convenient for divorce cases in that area to be left to the Islamic law while cases regarding the dissolution of marriages exclusively contracted under the customary provisions (traditional marriage) are left to the customary law (a very complex law with many limitations). Since statutory and customary laws do not make precisely the same provisions for divorce, the glitch is when a couple seeking divorce is bound by both laws (this happens mostly to Christians who do both traditional and church marriage processes). However, that's a discussion for another day. The point here is that all these marriages are recognised by the law and only couples bound by them can seek divorce.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Nigeria Problem Is Not Age But Mentality: By Journalist Emeka Ogwu by etrange: 6:51pm On Nov 08, 2020
We always use the US as a model. If the US is like this, then we should be fine like that. I appreciate that cause the US as a country has passed through many of the things we're passing through today. It's the most populated country amongst the oldest democracies so there's always something to learn from their model. But we must also consider the nuances between our society and the American society.

My point is, it could still be age. You see, America was already enlightened even before Trump was born. So even though he's old, he was born into an enlightened and progressive society. Same goes for Biden and the rest. The gap between the old and the youth in the US is generally not dramatically wide. Whereas in Nigeria, it's a different ball game. The country has experienced some shift in lifestyle in relatively recent years perhaps due to foreign education, the internet and other forms of youth exposure. Thus, the younger generation has a drastically different perspective. Their desires, their definition of fulfillment, their hunger to catch up with the rest of the world, etc. might be different. A power switch between the older generation and the current one would definitely not be business as usual. Something may remain, after all, they are our elders and we learned a lot from them both good and bad. But like I said, it will definitely not be the same outcome. Whether the younger generation will do better or worse is yet another discussion.
PoliticsRe: Let The Truth Be Known by etrange: 6:25pm On Nov 08, 2020
I don't really subscribe to this African mentality of a place belonging to a particular people. Here in the western world, you're from wherever you are born. It mustn't necessarily be where your parents are from. This is because humans will keep moving. Even the people claiming to own the state in Nigeria might have come from somewhere if you begin to trace back their origin. So I wonder where Africans draw the line. Nigerian has the advantage of being one race. One would think this would make them a united people with common goals but instead, they've decided to create divisions by sticking to some archaic/prehistoric lifestyle. A typical African does not like change (except when forced) and everyone wants to somehow be superior.

Ahappy:
Can you believe that a pastor in the church said that the person must pray to God for forgiveness of sin so as not to become rejected in the society as a result of the act..
That shows that religious teachings are heavily influenced by culture. It has always been like that even in the days of Elijah. You think God will punish a left handed person for using his left hand? The absurdity!

Christianity EtcRe: Is It Bad To Drop Offering In The Church With One's Left Hand by etrange: 5:46pm On Nov 08, 2020
If it's a sin, then the person that created left handed people is also a sinful being. Let's stop discriminating against people's nature in the name of religious or culture. Nature is extremely diverse and humans are products of nature.

You don't have to make everything about gender. Is it not men kidnapping, defrauding and even shooting fellow men everyday on home page? Nobody brings in gender when men do all sorts of things to their fellow men but once a lady is involved, "women are the greatest problem to women". Learn to address individual cases as a unit and stop the gender bias.

Security at its worse. I wonder how the family of the kidnapped would be feeling now. cry

But I don't get these doctors. So bad people kidnapped your colleague and you're punishing the masses? If other professionals went on strike each time something bad happened to their colleagues, you think they'd still be Nigeria? Is there a hidden demand here? Do they want the government to provide each doctor with police men? Every group of people in Nigeria think they are superior and should be treated differently.

You started well but ended up woefully poor. Despite the situation...? So what makes Democracy not to be precious in other countries like Nigeria?/Is it not because this kinda situations?

Free World they are killing Blacks like Sallah ram and Xmas chicken?
Y'all get overly emotional over nothing. The Free World is an expression used to refer to the western bloc or any country that allied with the US during the cold war. The US is clearly in the centre of the free world, and anyone that has any idea about political science knows the American democracy, however faulty it might be, has been a model and point of reference for many other democratic nations and there are many reasons for this. Asides from the theoretical model of checks and balances, it is the most populous nation amongst the 7 oldest democracies (democracy is considered very difficult in populated countries). Such a position is very critical thus my comment.

I dont know what you're on about. I never mentioned Nigeria. This thread is clearly not about Nigeria or any other nation. It's about the US and the American democracy and that's what my comment was about. If you want to talk about Nigeria, Nigerian democratic model is hybrid. Mauritius is the only full democracy in Africa. And this is not about the issues in Nigeria, it's about the structure. That's why I said "despite the situation in the US". And you are telling me about their issues. Which country does not have issues? Even with the issues, as a black man, where do you feel safer, in Atlanta or in Maiduguri? If you're given a job in New York city, won't you go?

Woefully poor? Lol... Please, don't quote with all this aggressive and fang baring attitude you guys are known for onhere. The lack of decorum is unsettling. Whatever you say, you're right. Just free me.

Lol... some people here feared he might not accept the result. And when he was asked if he would, he didn't give any clear response. Hope this fear isn't becoming reality. Despite the situation in the US, the country is still the leader of the free world. Their democracy is precious.

What's incel community? Disagree with a woman online and she will call you an "incel" which means involuntary celebate which means men who are unable to find or attract a woman to have sex with. That's the reverse word for olosho, whorre etc. The way some men dismiss women opinions as that of an olosho is the exact same way women dismiss men's opinion as that of an incel.

Oga, calm down o. The word didn't just start off as a derogatory word. It existed as an online community and yes, people called themselves incels. Here in Canada, the so called incels were annoying (I don't know about now). Just saying.
