It took me a while to figure out what you actually want us to discuss here.

They are loving each the way that appeals to them. For all you know, the man might derive joy from his partner eating from his plate. Again, it's just a picture, the guy might have tasted some of her food afterwards. When not sure which icecream flavour to buy, I and my friends pick different options and later taste one another choice. If these people are happy, I don't see any reason why we should create a thread to discuss their lunch session. The guy didn't complain to you. So mind your business. When you find your own woman, you can decide not to let her anywhere near your plate.

Happy new year.

I could live anywhere, dude. In case you conveniently missed the link, I only mentioned I live in North America cause he sarcastically asked if I watched the video or had "data issues". It wasn't to gain any bearing on the "issue at hand" cause there's clearly no issue at hand. The man made a very simple mistake. Besides, his speech problem is very well known.

Let's assume there was a plan to get rid of him and make the lady the president as you posit, do you think the mere knowledge of that plan would now make him start calling her president mistakenly? How does that work? Or does the plan entail calling her by that title so often that he now mistakenly calls her that in public? Cause I don't understand how the existence of such a plan would now make him make such a mistake unless you're suggesting that's what she's normally called in private (and that would be ridiculous).

Joe was the VP of the United States for years and he has all the experience needed to be a president. You can dislike him but suggesting he is not fit to be a president is delusional to say the least. I don't stay in the White House, I don't know what will happen tomorrow. But you also don't stay in the White House, so it's simply astonishing how you've figured out everything that will happen. Like I said, it's simply a hilarious conspiracy theory. The same theory that posited APC had plans to replace Buhari with Osinbajo.

I understand many Trump supporters are yet to come to terms with the reality on ground but the truth is, Trump has been trumped, Joe is taking over and life will go on.
You've said it all.

Let's stop blaming our parents for their limitations. They did what they felt was the best for us. Mistake is a learning process and it's not necessarily our mistake but even that of those before us. So the fact that we now know better is a natural growth process for a society. And for sure, people that will come after us will see our own mistakes, learn from it and be better. That's societal evolution.

What have said is nothing but the truth.
His experience is completely irrelevant to most young people of today.
All he does is go around bragging about the 30 years he spent abroad.
Why not ask him why he didn't spend his youth in Nigeria?
Nonsense.
How can you just quote someone to insult him cause he stayed abroad for a while? Do you know his age? Do you know at what age he left the country? Do you if he went as a baby without any say? Would you blame his parents for that? If you had the chance to raise your kids in a better society, wouldn't you do the same? Since you're the one to determine whose experience is relevant, tell me, whose experience is relevant really? The experience of the so-called young people who are still trooping out of the country everyday? How are they different from the person you quoted or his parents?

I am corrupt? Lol. Nigerian politics is probably affecting your perspectives cause you're beginning to sound like Buhari. Even blaming the older generation for your misery when you have not achieved anything yourself for the coming the generation is a serious mental case. The parents of the person you quoted might have worked hard to send him abroad or moved with him. What are you doing for your future kids apart from blaming every living thing around you? Hating people who live abroad is envy and can never be disguised as patriotism regardless of how you try.

Oh boy, you are toxic!

People, guard your mental health jealously. It all sounds like tales by moonlight until it starts degenerating. Depression/anxiety disorder rate is on the rise and most people won't tell you cause of how it's perceived in Nigeria. Once it sets in, it could last a lifetime and it affects every single aspect of your life. Money doesn't cure anxiety disorder. Most importantly, if you don't have something nice to say to someone, just let them be. You don't know what each person is suffering and you'd be amazed at the little thing that could trigger suppressed anxiety.

Happy Christmas!

Moving or visiting?

I'm asking cause it's very much normal for Nigerians abroad to visit home in December. At this point, you can't really tell who moved and who's just visiting cause the festive season hasn't ended yet. A couple of social media users using the word "moved" is not enough to conclude there's such a trend. Even when the pandemic was worse than it is now, Nigerians here didn't even entertain the thought of moving back home, it's now they will? I doubt.

Well, the reason I go with the relative dating is that it is easier and handy since the age assigned to geologic column is fixed instead of the expensive radiometric dating of the rock in which they are found. Now I don't mean that the rocks are not dated but it is a common experience among geologists that age according to local geology is mostly different to that gotten from radiometric dating. And this is because of the different issues which radiometric dating have, hence such dates are easily discarded.

Like I agreed, knowing decay rate and number of daughter atoms present, one can calculate the 'age' when a rock cooled but the reason why such ages are not taken serious by some (young earthers mostly) is that: different dating methods give different rates, the assumptions as stated before and the worst case is that rocks whose ages are known gave millions of years when dated. And as I stated before, there are other geochemical activities that shows decay rates may either be accelerated in the past or even point to lesser age but this is like challenging the ruling paradigm - such works don't eventually get published though other scientist write their form of rebuttals.
This is why I may not take the statement "radiometric dating is the closest thing to perfection" as 'perfect'.
For the last statement, the scientific community have a consensus and dissenters are persecuted severely (Galileo is a good example), so it may take a 'miracle' for them to accept a very good evidence that goes against the ruling paradigm as concrete. But what do I know sef
@bolded: Isn't that I why I specifically used the expression "closest to perfect". I mean, right from the first post, no one ever suggested you should take any dating method as perfect. I never for once said absolute dating is perfect. If I had wanted to say 'perfect', I'd use the word 'perfect'. But I said 'closest to perfect' which means it's not perfect but better than others. So you saying "I'm not taking 'closest to perfect' as 'perfect'" and making an argument around that when it was never in contention as it was clearly stated is somewhat confusing, bro.

Nevertheless, it was an insightful discussion. Thanks.

I like the fact that you agreed like many other followers of science that carbon dating is hugely flawed in dating fossils, unlike the pseudoscience carbon dating crooners here on nairaland that shout the word like some magic spell they learnt recently. It was found out that carbon dating beyond 15 to 20,000 years is completely unreliable. The measuring of isotopic decays for fossils also has its inherent argument but that’s for another topic.
Yeah. I think it's an open secret that all the dating methods have thier weaknesses.

Relative dating is what is normally used for assigning dates to fossils anyway. Comparing the 'rock' in which they are found with the local geologic column.

For the first paragraph, the methods stated are actually correct but problems being raised is the assumptions behind such methods which many don't know.
1. The rate been constant throughout? (There are evidence for it not being constant)
2. It a closed system? (There are evidence that does not support this also)
3. The initial amount of parent and daughter isotopes known? (There are evidence that challenge this assumptions also)

But getting these to the general public is an issue. The age of the earth is taken as FACT and proving otherwise with sound evidence would bring persecution for you; "publish or perish"
I don't think the statement "relative dating is what is used to assign dates to fossils anyway" is entirely accurate. Both are used. A lot of legacy fossils date records have relative dates (in other words, majority of the dates were calculated using the relative dating technique) but this is as a result of the fact that the technique predates absolute dating. Radiometric dating is presently the most common choice of fossil dating method in the developed world except in cases where it's not an option.

I clearly acknowledged in my writeup you quoted that the dating techniques (all of them) have their limitations but radiometric dating is still the closest thing to perfection. I do have rather scientific responses to some of your questions though (especially about parent/daughter aka unstable/stable isotopes) but I wish not to prolong the chat. Just bear in mind that someone somewhere is always challenging whatever we know in science but until they come up with something concrete, we still use what we have.

There are many women in this world.
The man probably saw and heard them before he selected his wife and married.
Those women all said rubbish that pissed off the man. That's why he didn't marry them. He married the one that said the things he likes very well.
However, now they're together in the house, she's now saying what he doesn't want to hear. Hence his anger. He has ended up marrying the same type of woman which he rejected before outside. (Should I say, " women are all the same? Your mother, sister, aunty, wife...)
This is the reason for his anger. He is betrayed.
-
The only solution for this is for the man to either marry anybody without expecting anything special.
Or right from the beginning expect his wife to be stupid and prepare his mind for the impending stupidity.
This is the importance of courtship. Decide what you will do WHEN the woman definitely pisses you off and if you know you will get violent, just DON'T MARRY.
Keep your prick in your pant and live celebrate life.
Thanks for the response. While I clearly see your point, I do have a little issue with your perspective, if you don't mind. Your write up just presents the man as the infallible one and the woman as the only possible source of disagreement. You never even considered the possibility of the man being the menace in the relationship. You make it look like the woman is some product you buy and later get disappointed by its performance. It didn't occur to you that the woman also had expectations or that men also have the tendency to annoy or provoke thier wives? It didn't occur to you that she might be shouting cause her man she thought was different ended up cheating like the rest? Should we also say all men are the same? To me, a man who hits a woman is simply violent and has the tendency to be a street fighter. I know one wife beater and he would easily charge against fellow guys he felt he was bigger than.

I'm not shielding women, I'm only saying they come with expectations that also need to be managed and we must consider both parties if we're being objective here. The way we bring up kids in Africa results in women growing into mature home keepers while men mostly grow with their boyish attitudes (coming home later, drinking, throwing clothes and shoes around, playing video games, etc). While women have come to accept this nurture, they still have thier limit and that limit varies from one lady to another. For some, you can do anything you want but don't cheat. For others, you have to be a bit more responsible or the nagging might kick in. So instead of saying men should expect the possibility of stupidity from women (that statement reeks of superiority complex, lol), a better way to put it would be that men should pay attention to how tolerant their women are to their excesses while women learn to set their priorities right. I agree courtship helps to curtail some of these things.

So in this case where/how did they get original isotope? I believe the discovery is the new isotope (child) right?
The daughter isotope (new stable isotope) is gotten from the fossil(or rocks surrounding the fossil) while parent isotope is the original element that has lost stability. The dating element used depends on the elements found in the fossil (or surrounding rocks).

people beat people up every single minute for saying something offensive to them. Even as I'm typing this now I'm 100% certain that someone is getting beat up because he/she said something stupid to the wrong person. If a fellow male who is stronger than you will beat you up for insulting him why shouldn't the same be applied to females?
Because it's generally not good. Even beating another guy up cause you're bigger/stronger is somewhat barbaric. That singular act can be used to measure the level of civilisation of a place cause it's only early men that settle disputes that way. Fighting should be an act of self defense against physical harm and nothing more. Hitting your husband, wife, etc only makes you a beast and it's more much common in places where the law is not active or easily accessible or places where there's clear gender bias.

Who calculated the maths?
Were you an art student? No offense really but while some dating techniques might be questionable, the question "who did the maths?" suggests you don't even know about the existence of these techniques. To answer your question, modern science uses radiometric dating techniques and this involves measuring the decay of isotopes in the fossil. It's called absolute dating cause isotopes break down at a constant rate over time through radioactive decay. Since rate is constant, the ratio of the amount of original isotope (parent) to the amount of the new isotope (child) can be used to calculate the 'absolute' age of the fossil.

These fossils can also be dated using relative dating techniques (not sure anyone does that these days) and carbon dating (generally not suitable for dating fossils).

**Modified**
My first question wasn't to undermine the intelligence of art students. I only asked that cause being an student might excuse his lack of knowledge about isotopes and thier roles in fossil dating. Just felt I should say this.

Those saying the woman might have led to that with her sharp mouth surprise me. Since when has it become right to beat up people cause they say what you don't want to hear? Or is it just cause you're stronger? If others beat you up each time you say what they don't want to hear, would you still be alive? If it were OK to hit anyone who says what what pisses us off, how would the world be? You think the man doesn't also say things that get on the woman's nerves?

This kind of response is the reason people don't speak up when they suffer domestic abuse. Nigerians love to blame the victim especially if the interest of their party would be protected while at it. Otherwise, why would anyone ever excuse domestic violence in this modern age? The situation of things in Africa makes me wonder if the continent is going forward or backward.
