They wouldn't have had any reason to apologise if they had reported it with craft. It's not like their foreign counterparts don't report news even before getting the full details (time is of essence in journalism) but they do it in a way that shields them from any legal harassment. Know when to be direct, know when to quote, know what not report at all if the supplier of the information insists on anonymity, know when to use words like purported, claimed, supposed, etc. and most importantly, know how to tactfully use disclaimer clauses.

My sisters treat people the way I do. Our genders don't come in the way we were brought up. Nobody prays for a poor husband but wishing for a comfortable husband doesn't and shouldn't suggest treating poor people like trash. If we disrespect poor people, it would be because we weren't well brought up and not cause they are women.

You get my point? When some men become rich, they trample upon the poor as if they are gods. Likewise some women who treat the poor with disregards. So no gender has a monopoly of that. It's all about the individual.

I live in a country where I am judged by the colour of my skin. Even before I say a word, assumptions are made about me. I know what it feels like to be perceived based on the action of others like me. I've been on Nairaland for 10 years, I've seen the trends and I can say for sure that the misogyny that goes on on this forum is worst than tribalism. Of course, I can't change that. But I will always air my opinion because I have sisters; loving sisters who are still in Nigeria.

Everything is an opportunity for you people to bash women. A lot of elder sisters are the bread winners of their families out there in the absence of their parents but once there's a bad story involving a lady, you guys collectively call them out. You think men would have been any better if all the crimes, rape stories, etc we see on the front page everyday are used to collectively bash the masculine gender? If you travel to any country through the right means, you wouldn't be treated like a criminal. You can't go to UAE as a visitor/tourist and then hide away, and hope to get the same treatment as citizens or legal residents. You're already a criminal. I was in Dubai for a while myself and I can say it's a metropolitan city with more immigrants than locals so our people have themselves to blame for this.
