agabusta: There is what is called Judicial precedence in cases. You can use it to argue your case. There can never be two cases with virtually same circumstances and peculiarities.
If someone already found guilty for a similar offence is able to obtain bail, while appealing her sentence, there should be no reason to deny these guys their bail. simple
Except if the police charged them with an offence which is not bailable. And that is not the case here. First, the peculiarities of each case are what might make the judges' decisions differ and seeing that we don't have all the details here, I think it's over-reaching for you to start calling on the lady's case. You seems enlightened so I'd want to believe you know not to deal with assumptions in legal proceedings. More so, it has been argued over the years and I merely reiterate that a strict commitment to precedent basically guarantees that the court will uphold some mistaken interpretations of the constitution (even when it recognizes them as mistaken and even though it has the power to set them straight). Flexibility is therefore necessary to make things right and not just settled. |

agabusta: So what else do you want? The judge should deny them bail after spending 4 weeks in detention over manslaughter?
I remember that the Actress from Rivers state that has already been convicted of manslaughter is still lounging while appealing her case. I agree with the judge's decision but you bringing up the actress' case doesn't quite help your point. First, because calling two cases the same name (in this case, manslaughter) doesn't guarantee the same outcome cause of the peculiarities of each. Second, because the idea of using a wrongly handled case as a yardstick for other possibly criminal cases is regressive. Hope you get my point. |

OluwaLina1: Is My Sister Doing The Right Thing? Please Your Advice Is Needed
Advice needed Don't mind my typo errors.
My sister cancel her wedding plans all because her husband to~be insists they are going to be living with his mum after the wedding before they will build their own house.
Now,my sister said she won't go on with the wedding plans if he didn't rent an appartment, even if it's face-me-i-slap-you room, she will be okay with it,she won't even mind if the mother come to spend days with them.
Is my sister doing the right thing? There's no right thing or wrong thing here. Just like looking for jobs, apartments, etc. There are things we want and can't do without and there are things we want but can do without. We'd be lucky if we see them all in one but most times, we don't. We can compromise/make sacrifices but only with the non deal breakers. Any other thing further would lead to regrets and a regretful marriage is a shortcut to death. My point is, your sister has her deal breakers. The man has his. I'm sure there are things he can't put up with himself. So if their interests are irreconcilable, they should probably not be together, at least, for now. She has proposed a few other alternatives so she isn't necessarily a terrible person. We all know her fears: the mother naturally would direct her son (all loving mothers do this even when the son is already a man) and the wife would want her home (that's every woman's dream). In the case disagreement, the man would have a hard time deciding who to listen to. This is what your sister fears and it's a very genuine concern. She knows herself, she knows her man and only she can tell what she can put up with. So if she can't put up with the woman living with them, she can amicably move on. Don't let people box you into a corner, they won't be there when you start suffering. Nairalanders would always respond emotionally but only a few of them would be OK with that if they were in her shoes. The childish ones are already shouting simp and alpha, I take it you know to ignore such. So like I said, it's not a matter of right or wrong. If at the end, they don't get married, it'll still be better than a wrecked home. And in that case, I pray each would find a more compatible partner. |

donpapa: What’s the due process? All these parties that can’t win a polling unit. We are not ready in this country That's the funny thing. We advocate for due process when it favours and go for sharp process when due process doesn't favour us. It doesn't work that way in civilised society, it's either operation-anything-goes or due process even when it seems to be wasting our time. |

Romance › Re: A Times I Feel Like Dying by etrange: 10:20pm On Aug 08, 2020 |
People commit suicide everyday in Nigeria not because their problems are unsolvable but mainly because the people around them are not enlightened enough to understand that mental health is as serious as biological health. They always try to compare the person's issues with thiers and end up telling the person that his issues are worthless. Telling someone who has issues that his issues are not worth anything is the worst thing ever. Such a person would feel alone and fed up. More so, don't compare their issues with yours or any other. It's not always about the issue but the mental make up of the person. The issue is only a trigger.
This post is for the two insensitive guys above who thought they made sense. |
