sisisioge:I definitely can't speak for the person. Provided you didn't persistent after they've given thier first answer or indicated they don't want to answer, I don't see any reason they should be upset. Perhaps they were still too excited about thier citizenship to the point where a simple question becomes a threat to thier passport ![]() |
sisisioge:Awesome. I wasn't being rude. Now, you do not get offended because you probably MOVED. You're 1st Gen. Thinking you'd have the same outlook as someone born there is wrong. If you have not walked in shoes of someone who has spent all thier life in a place only to be told outrightly they don't belong there, you'd never understand what that feels like. And like I said, it's even more painful when the person has no other country to identify with. Again, there's nothing wrong with this question, but do not reject thier response like this woman did. Even if you're of the same race, it is still rude to persist. It is not just a matter of how you feel asking the question or what your intentions are, it's more about how it's received or how it makes the other party feel. Let's be considerate. |
sisisioge:I don't know how to say this without sounding impolite, but if you have ever been to the West, you would have known it is EXTREMELY rude to ask a black. Do you know how inconsiderate it is to put someone in a position where they'd have to answer "I don't know" to that question? It's like going to the orphanage to ask a child there "do you know your mother"? And then say they could simply say they don't know. Again, the only reason you'd be curious about a white person in Nigeria is because you know we don't have white people historically speaking. If you were South African, would you ask a white person that speaks Afrikaan "where are you from"? And if even if you do and they say they're South Africans, would you still go ahead to ask "where are your people from"? Won't the person slap you? Do you have any idea how rude that is? Yes people ask others where they're from as a way of breaking the ice, but this lady in question was obviously not just socially curious. If she was, she would have stopped when the lady made it obvious she wasn't comfortable with the questions. Instead, she pressed on and even made insulting comments. So don't make it look as if she was just being curious. Finally, this question of "where are your people from" is a racist question as old as time faced by non white persons in the West including those who do not have any other country to identify with. We discuss it everyday in inclusion and diversity sessions. So it's not just a black or Naija people thing. |
Okonandmary:So black Americans are not Americans? So Obama and Donald Trump are not Americans because thier parents are all immigrants? White South Africans are not South Africans? Do you know how many Nigerians have parents or grand parents originally from Cameroon and the republic of Benin? Which country would you assign to black people in Europe sold during slavery? Dude, if she was born in the UK, she's British. It's as simple as that. You don't get to tell her how to identify. Don't mix up race with nationality. It is not about denying one's nationality. This lady would not have asked her this if she was a white person from France. So it's all about race for her. Asking someone where they're from is not a problem, but rejecting thier response is the height of racism. This Ngozi lady was born in the UK. She is as British as any other black British person (and yes, there are black British people). She does not speak in any way that suggests she not British. This means she could have easily passed as a descendant of those sold during slavery. Now imagine asking such a person this kind of question. You'd be telling the person they don't belong anywhere. It's even funnier when it is in North America where the white people themselves are also descendants of immigrants from Europe. Anybody can be from anywhere. Countries are just geographical boundaries. |
Katcall:Not sure the word "die" is applicable because they were never alive. Yes, they may have DNA or RNA but they need to attach themselves to a living cell to function. However, the can be broken down by the right antibodies. These antibodies are either naturally produced by the white blood cells or triggered externally by injecting a different virus (active, partially active or inactive). |
Katcall:Well, the Bible doesn't actually say that, but scholars deducted that the time difference between the days of Adam and the days of Abraham is 2000 years (using the ages of the generations in-between). It is also believed that Abraham lived 2000 years BC (which is about 4000 years ago). This gives a total of about 6,000 years as the age of the planet earth. I totally respect this belief. However, it heavily relies on the idea that that there was nothing before the year of creation. And that idea isn't very easy to sell given the fact that fossils of animals older than 6000 years exist. Even if you don't believe in the perfection of carbon dating and radioactivity, the fact that none of these animals were mentioned in the Bible implies they had gone into extinction before the Biblical days. |
WriterNig:These viruses are bound to escape the ice one day. Identifying and studying them now is an ideal to stay ahead. Besides, dead/inactivated viruses can be used to create antibodies. There are still a lot incurable diseases out there, and the cure will not knock on our door. People risk thier lives in search of knowledge or new discoveries that could make the earth a better place or, at least, keep it protected. Y'all just stay in Africa and call people names when they make bold steps. You really think it is in the nature of science to stop searching for new discoveries or to see one and just ignore it? Anyone that took basic science subjects in secondary school knows it doesn't work that way. The drugs and other health products you use, do you think they were all manufacturing by scientists staying at home? |
Ruggedniggaone:These are estimates, but why is it that anytime you guys hear how long something has been in existence, you start shouting? This earth has been in existence for millions of years. Why is it such a big deal for something on earth to have existed for 50,000 years. |
Vendors and clients suffer when trade is broken. Though it's mostly a question of resources and the level of dependency on them, the side that has more number of people in thier solidarity tend to have the upper hand. This is because they're more likely to satisfy one another without the opposing party. This particular case is peculiar cause the West has a good number of people in thier solidarity, but there's this resource they're not able to get from within; oil. On the other hand, Russia is not really as economically powerful as a lot of people would like to believe. So it became a waiting game. For a country as big as Russia, sanctions take time to sink in. They had a lot of reserves before starting this war. The idea was for the West to burn out before they start feeling the impact of the sanctions and it's almost working for them. Some western countries are already making plans to leave the kitchen cause of the heat. But the again, the West has mastered the art of wealth conversion. Human capital, financial power, goodwill, military power, etc; all are being tapped into to sustain the region. And it appears Russia is finally maxing out. |
saintneo:The carelessness of the person that left it there is not the bone of contention here. There'll always be careless and dirty people regardless of gender. But the OP saying he lost interest in women because he saw it is both preposterous and hilarious. I can understand this coming from a teenager, but it'll be appalling if you'd react any differently to your own wife if/when you see hers (cause you'd definitely see it one day). Menstrual blood is part of human nature. If seeing it makes you lose interest in the opposite gender, then they're better off without you. |
So he shouldn't go to see football matches again because the team didn't make it? People like to criticize as if they would do any differently in the position of the person they're criticizing. |
OLAADEGBU:Lol... Nairaland people. So you really prefer to type all this instead of just taking the feedback in good fate? And you think I'd sit down and be reading another gibberish? Dude, the article you shared was poorly written; so poorly that people could hardly understand it. The number of people that liked or shared the comment I made only goes to show that what I said was more factual than opinionated. I really don't know why you're getting so emotional over my comment. But then again, it's Nairaland. Enjoy yourself, buddy! Ciao ! |
OLAADEGBU: etrange: When I say 'you', I mean whoever wrote this stuff for that unsecured blog.As you can see in the comment you quoted, my comment makes it clear I wasn't referring to whoever you are but the person that wrote the article for the blog. So what exactly are you firing back at? Take it up with who? You brought it here on Nairaland, so I made my comment on Nairaland. If I had gone to thier side to read it, I would have made my comment there. The only reason why you're getting emotional about my comment is because you brought the article here, so you feel responsible in a way. Maybe you could look for a better blog next time. |
Melvinkel:Nothing actually. They mustn't get along. |
You're right. Nigerians are abusive and they think it's cool. They kind of believe it sets them apart or makes them look tough. They say depressing things to one another, speak ill of the culture of other countries, and brag about it saying "we no dey hide mouth". Communication is just not thier strength. Nigerians also hate successful people, especially women. It's as if it makes them feel bad about thier own lack of progress. So they go out of thier way to undermine other people's success. That said, I believe they have genuine reasons to dislike thier politicians. |
Jovialjune1:And they allowed her to get on stage only to stop her halfway through the performance? |
brain54:But they knew her brand before inviting her. This is like inviting MTN to your show and asking them not to showcase thier yellow color because it doesn't align well with your hall decoration. Let's assume they agree to this cause they really want to be there, you would notice the yellow color as they're setting up thier corner and call thier attention to it right away. But in this case, they saw her before she mounted the stage and allowed her to go only for them to stop her halfway through the show. I believe a senior staff member who wasn't part of the organizers walked in as she was singing and that changed everything. That's the only logical explanations. |
Hadone:See you in court! |
Meanwhile on the front page, Justice Ariwoola just said Nigerians go to court over every little disagreement. https://www.nairaland.com/7455439/nigerians-go-court-over-every#118753255 |
Vipro:Best of luck in your academic endeavors, bro. Whatever you do, give it your best. The labour market is not as rigid or demarcated as the school structure makes you believe. Things are more mixed up out here. So just get as much knowledge possible and you'll be fine. Ciao ! |
Vipro:Business administration is about the day-to-day running of a business or organization. At the undergraduate level, it covers areas such as human resources, supply chain, manufacturing, marketing, cooperate governance, finance, operations, etc. It simply prepares students for managerial roles in business enterprises. On the other hand, business education studies business with more focus on how best to teach it. The goal here is to come up with the most effective ways to teach business/business related subjects in schools. Students of business education are equipped with advanced teaching skills. They learn context specific teaching methodologies (e.g. how to teach adults vs how to teach teens). Bus Ed is under the faculty of education while Bus Admin is under management sciences. Bus Ed gives you a BEd while Bus Admin gives you a BSc. As expected, both fields have a lot of common subject areas but difficult industrial focuses. In Bus Admin, you do your industrial training in business organizations. In Bus Ed, you'd likely do your industrial training in schools/academic institutions. The skills are, however, transferable. |
Vipro:Anything education is related to school (academic or administrative). However, the course offers a lot of transferable skills just like any other course. People don't have to practice what they studied in school, but they can always use some of the skills they got in school to aid whatever career path they choose. These skills are the transferable skills. So you might study business education and end up being a business analyst or even delve into business intelligence (IT). |
ecolime:Because that one person was seen as a clog in the wheel of his success. Sad. |
You're right, brother. For many reasons, it's easier to make friends while growing up. Such friends are always closer. And while some last for life, others eventually grow in different directions. This leaves us with the challenge of making new friends as adults. Friends you make as a lad are like family members. They're not necessarily better than other people you're meeting as an adult, but because you are confined in the same space with them for long (school, compound, etc.), you get so accustomed to thier excesses and make room for thier shortcomings; they do the same for you. This is why we say things like "so-so person has his issues, but when you get to know him, you'd see he's a nice person". The truth is, the person may not actually be a very nice person, he may even be the neighborhood terror agent. However, we met them at time we did not have the mindset to judge or at a time before they even developed whatever bad attitude they might have. We've known them long enough to create good memories that over-shadow thier bad sides. Now as an adult, we want friends but we don't have the time to build friendships. We're not confined in any space with anyone especially now that we work from home. Common interests are not so common anymore. We have knotted principles and personal convictions. And even without thinking about it, we use these principles to judge others as soon as we meet them. We have a mental picture of the kind of people we want to have as friends, but we're always suspicious of other people's intentions. We worry they'd judge us the way we judge others or just use us as a means to a goal. Therefore, we are always quick to cut them off even when they do things not as bad as what a brother or a childhood friend would do. We live in a world of "IDGF", "I can do it alone", "I don't need anyone", etc., and nobody wants to appear weak. So we put up this image of contention while we die of loneliness inside. As an adult, especially when you move to a new location, you must acknowledge the fact that friendship mustn't always happen by accident. Sometimes, you need to approach it intentionally and with the proper mindset but without desperation. You might get burned once or twice, but at the end, if you're able to make one or two friends you could relate with, it'll be worth it. |
KingOfAmebo: cliqtips: nyiamfrank:Lol... it wasn't on the front page when I dropped my comment. Let's hope the OP takes the feedback seriously. There's always room for improvement. |
CanadaOrBust:Lol... Isn't funny that you are using your Bible to judge others who may not even share the same religious belief? How then are you different from bokoharam? Your name says Canada or burst. This means you'd give anything to go to Canada, a country where gay people are understood and accepted. This simply shows that when the chips are down, you're very much willing to ignore your principles for earthly desires. And that's a bit surprising seeing how close you are to god. |
fk001:Which part of my comment suggested I know what it means? Even if I did, I didn't create the blog, so I technically do not owe the audience any explanation. |
Lol... you know the kind of title that would easily attract NL guys. Any opportunity to call Nigerian girls evil attracts them like blood attracts sharks. |
onez:What is the identity? |
Where is the girl child really safe? |
Just a feedback, OP: Did you notice how your readers couldn't really connect with the article? One said "who cares" probably cause they have no idea what the whole thing is about, and the other was asking what the gesture means. That's exactly how 'disconnected' your write-up is. You were inclined to score points for your personal opinion so much so that you ended up forgetting the primary goal which is informing. You left out important explanations and started arguing right away. Yet even your argument is watery. I'm sure that only those who knew the 'story' before now would read your article and understand it at once. When I say 'you', I mean whoever wrote this stuff for that unsecured blog. |
Lol... the fact that the OP called someone who read and write an illiterate shows he does not understand the meaning of the world himself. Y'all are funny on this platform. |
