Then the person that hired him wasted his money. I don't think he was hired. He went in there knowing he wouldn't succeed. He knew he'd likely get killed, yet he went in. It doesn't appear to be well planned. There was too much emotion involved (anger, sadness, desperation, frustration, etc.). So I'd say it's a crime of passion. The president might have put a policy in place that cost the guy something or someone very valuable to him. It might even more personal than that. We may never get to know. I seriously wouldn't call an escalation too far if I've been denied promotion twice in a row. It doesn't mean he'd eventually get promoted, but when the issue is tabled before HR, he'd get all the answers for those questions you considered valid. I believe that even if he gives us all the answers to the questions, there's still little we can do for him as we're not the HR.

I feel bad when employees who are not the "hot careers" are treated badly in Nigeria.

I think Kayode is asking us what he should have asked the HOD. KPI discussions are supposed to be two-way. He should ask him why he's being punished for not managing his subordinate and also for not managing his manager. The response will help Kayode determine his next steps. He could escalate the issue (every appraisal process has an escalation path). And if it's obvious the organization is just looking for a way to make him resign, he should seriously consider that. Otherwise, they might mess up his mental health.

Again, who sets up his KPI? He should do that alongside his manager and he should work towards removing Peter's performance as an indicator. I know one's team management skills should be considered but the bas attitude/performance of a team member shouldn't be a reason to deny one his promotion.

Africa is answering the call because they need to pull resources together in order to do business with the USA. This is not a question of ego or pride, it's simply a game of numbers. It's not about how many countries or even the physical sizes of these countries. It's an economic summit, and economically speaking, the whole of Africa is not up to 15% of America's GDP. So inviting Africa to a summit is very normal when the right factors are compared. It's business and normally, you'd deal with business partners with enough resources to transact with you hence why the USA is dealing with Africa as a whole. The EU has no business justification to answer such a call because one country in the EU has more than enough resources to deal with Africa.

Everyone is chasing happiness. It has nothing to do wealth level or whether you have fancy things or not. What makes you happy may not be what makes another person happy. Getting rich might make a poor man happy and he's working towards that, but the rich man may have other things he needs to be happy and he's working towards that. Whichever way, everyone is trying to be happy in life however they can and this includes you and those people you mentioned in your comment that have "fancy things" (whatever that means).

Working towards happiness is whole essence of EVERYTHING we do in life. So you quoting my post to say only a specific set of people is trying to be happy is a clear indication that you feel you don’t belong to that set of people and, therefore, are better off. You don't need to type the words for that to be inferred.
