Faithful007:I agree with you and you do have a point about the changing dynamics of air warfare. Air forces of other parts of the world are drifting to stealth tech aircrafts. Stealth aircrafts might be costly and unnecessary for African air forces considering, unit costs, maintenance and the adversary they want to use it against but getting an aircraft with BVR capabilities is just ok if you ask me. Egypt already has Rafale F3er and they can be upgraded to Rafale F-4 semi-stealth standard Algeria is most likely going to receive the Su-57E Morocco has the latest F16Vs and reports have are flying about that they are in talks with Israel to help them convince the US to sell F-35s to them I don't know about the South Africa maybe they may want to patronise India for the HAL Tejas mk 1A with BVR capabilities because it's a fellow BRICS member or they will upgrade it's Gripens fleet to Gripen E /Gripen NG In my opinion though, not sure it's going to happen, I think Nigeria should purchase the FA-50 Golden Eagle from South Korea since it has BVR capabilities and it is a multi-role aircraft that can carry out ground attacks and air interdictions and it costs 30 million dollars per unit compared to the JF-17 block 3 that is not a multi role aircraft |
kabe1:If things go as planned, the Seaward Defence Boats 4&5 will get commissioned by 2025. We could equip them with maybe a Turkish ASELSAN smash 30mm RCWS. The Chinese donated patrol boat to Nigeria is the same length as the SDBs 4&5 under construction, 46metres. Maybe we could study some tech on the donated patrol boat and improve on it, and apply it on the SDBs 4 &5 just like the way the Chinese study Russian weaponry and make an improved version |
Odunayaw:Yeah I'm aware |
bidexiii:Air Marshall O. Amao met his Turkish counterparts, order for T129 followed Vice Admiral A. Gambo, met his Turkish counterpart, order for Dearsan OPV 76 followed General Irabor is now meeting his counterpart. This one that the Turkish General is smiling like this, hope it's not what I'm thinking sha Abi maybe we should start with their Atlay MBT ![]() |
bidexiii:Ohh ok, but do you by chance have any info about the GrayInsignia sniper rifle that was been tested by DICON |
Odunayaw:I know I'm asking about the Sniper rifle in his hands |
bidexiii:Is that the Gray Insignia sniper rifle? |
The Ind... Defence Industry has really gone far and is matured enough to make a name for itself in the market, I wonder why they hardly receive orders for prominent defence assets. If South Africa can export it's Casper MRAPs, Seeker UAVs, Umkhonto SAMs and other defence equipments with a young defence industry then they with a solidified local defence industry should be exporting the likes of HAL Dhruv, HAL Rudra, Arjun MBT, Kalyani MRAP, Saryu OPVs, Car Nicoba patrol vessels just to mention a few. |
Lurker4long, jl115 and y'all other Saffers should upload something about the SANDF na. This is an African military thread not Nigeria alone. You guys should upload a juicy development about the SANDF. Has a solution been proffered to the budget crisis of the SANDF and are there preventive measures to stall any future re-occurence?? What's the latest development on the Rooivalk attack helicopter? I learnt Denel wants to work with defence companies of other countries like India and Nigeria for the development of a mk 2 version. The Mwari AHRLAC? Will the SANDF still order it for future use against a Mozambique like situation in the SADC? The SAAF Gripen aircraft fleet, any latest development about the upgrades it will receive? Any additional orders for second hand Gripens and or a future replacement. The Puma helicopters are old enough for retirement. Any replacement yet? The SAN frigates and submarines, their refittings, life extension programme and on board weapons upgrades?? Is there still hope for the Damen 1800 sea axe hull opv for the SAN? In the recently concluded AAD show in South Africa, I caught a glimpse of the Badger IFV on display in a pic. Is Denel still hoping to revive the project The Olifants MBT should be getting replaced. No orders yet for the Leopard 1, why? The Rooikat, ZT3, Ratel and other Denel vehicles, how about their upgrades?? You guys should drop a pic at least |
[quote author=Toju200 post=118012661]video of delivery it due to the low production rate or the Army just wants to diversify it's inventory cause I don't grab why we are still buying armoured personnel carriers when we have ProForce Aras & Vipers and DICON Ezugwus. We should be opting for MBTs and IFVs |
Odunayaw:Comrade small small na, we already have a Russia-Ukraine crisis to deal with, we don't want another Nairaland war to add to the vawulence ![]() |
raymexx:First you claim that the military is afraid of terrorists and that they are targeting civilians instead, later you claimed again that the military and the terrorists are working together to destroy the South East. Can you imagine how STUP1D you sound. You also claim that President Buhari is the commander and leader of the terrorists. But it is still this same you that uploaded something on the president's convoy being ambushed by terrorists and that the military did not respond to that but rather they go after civilians in the South East. Can you imagine how F00LISH you sound. Meanwhile are you aware that the old man (Nnamdi Kanu) whose course and agenda you want to die for created Ebube Agu, a terrorist organization known for enforcing "Sit at home order" on innocent Easterners, killing security operatives especially soldiers from the military on order of their evil founder and just recently they were reported to have kidnapped a Governorship candidate for Ebonyi state on the orders of the present Governor of Ebonyi. The Ebube Agu group claimed that it was an arrest they carried out and that the reason why he was in their custody was because he was suspected of dealing in hard drugs. Since when did Ebube Agu start arresting people for hard drugs? Who permitted them to do so? That same old man gave Ebube Agu weapons without permission from the Federal govt and was responsible for the Orlu Crisis in South East Nigeria but he fled the country to UK, from UK to Kenya and left you NUMBSKULLS to face the consequence in the South East. Nigga use your head and think. Concentrate on the future and stop trying to actualize an evil dream of the past. |
Based on the now trending news of the US suspecting about a terrorist attack in Abuja, Nigeria. What do you guys think about it. And I also learnt that the US also gave such warning to South Africa about a terrorist attack in Sandton. I for one don't believe the US suspicions cause; 1) They couldn't even predict a terrorist attack of mass shooting in a school in California just recently this week. They also couldn't predict an attack on Kuje correctional centre, Presidential guards brigade and on the presidential convoy, but they "think" there will be a terrorist attack in the "Capital" of the country 2)South Africa was given the warning a day before Nigeria was given, the two economic powers of Africa. Desn't that call for suspicions of the US trying to destabilize Africa, instigate wars, sell their weapons, interfere in any country and loot their resources to their satisfaction just as they did to countries in the Middle East for Oil & Gas The Saffers I've interacted with online say there has been no such attack in the country and they don't expect any so the US should not be taken seriously. 3) The embassy in Abuja was closed down. I can't help but have to think that they are tired of stamping visas for Nigerians to migrate to their country but they are not tired of corrupt leaders keeping and investing Nigerian public funds in their country. If they rejected the corrupt leaders keeping and investing such money in their country and they exposed them to us, we will be grateful and not rush into their country in our thousands. |
AskiaHarem:Pls don't mind this biafran baggers. Don't even bother to reply the likes of them They can do basically anything to make Nigeria look bad. Biafra died since January 15 1970 but they are still after it's realization in 2022 instead of concentrating on 2023 and the future. My problem with them is the more they keep screaming about it on internet, they are giving the US a reason to come and interfere in our national issues as a country. It's like they've not learnt anything from the fate of Libya, Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. |
kabe1:Other options we could go for are; HAL Tejas LCA mk1a JAS 39 Gripen NG But I think 12 to 16 units of JF 17 block 3 by 2027 should be the target due to costs |
Odunayaw:Even me too, how can we buy attack helicopters from someone and the person will be dictating when, where and how to use it. The same goes for the A29 tucanos. I for one think the airforce should hand over all it's attack helicopters to the Army while all drones/UAV should be transferred to the possession of the Airforce. I mean the modern day battlefield is changing. We see how some helicopters are brought down by ManPads in Ukraine. We are also seeing how UCAVs are being used effectively. So since the Nigerian Army is complaining of lack of timely close air support and that it wants it's aviation wing, it will be just proper if the Airforce transfers it's Mil Mi 35 and AW-109 Power attack helicopter and the incoming ones to the army, while the Army transfers it's UAVs including the new Bayraktars to the airforce The Army will not have to worry about the helicopters being brought down because I don't think bandits have the much needed anti-aircraft firepower to do so. While the Airforce will be using UAVs for surveillance and ground attack as it's the new trend in some prominent airforce's in the world. |
lionel4power:They do call them frigates. You can make a research on them. I passed out from a Nigerian Navy Secondary School and our instructors and officers tells us things like this. The F on a ship means it's serving as a frigate(even though it's not actually a frigate) e.g the NNS Thunder and Okpabana The P on a ship means it's serving as a patrol vessel e.g the NNS Oji and Karaduwa The A on a ship means it's serving as an Auxiliary vessel e.g the NNS Ologbo, NNS Nwamba |
davefurn:Actually the Nigerian Navy has no frigates for now. The NNS Aradu is grounded but it refers to the Hamilton class cutters and P18N Corvettes as Frigates because of their big size hence the reason why they have pennant numbers like F90, F91, F92 and F93. There is a difference between LSTs, LHDs and Amphibious assault ships LSTs are amphibious landing ships that can carry at most a Max. of 300 troops and 30+ vehicles and they can also carry 1 helicopter and a drone depending on the size of the landing helipad and the hangar. They also possess a front bow ramp and they are lightly armed with 12.7mm guns or 30mm RCWS for close quarter combat. They can weigh 1000 tons or more Examples are Damen LST 100, LST 120 LHDs are bigger amphibious vessels that can carry up to 3,4,5... to 20 or more helicopters and they can carry a Max of 800+ troops. They don't possess a front bow ramp, instead it's from the back and they can be armed with short range SAM and CIWS guns for self defense. They can weigh 30,000 tons or more but in Algeria's case, their San Giorgio LHD weighs 8,000 tons. Examples are China's Type 75 LHD, France's Mistral class LHD. Then Amphibious Assault ships or Landing Platform Docks are ships bigger than LSTs but smaller than LHDs. They can carry a Max of 700+ troops and they are armed with 76mm naval guns, 40mm guns and 12.7mm guns. Their 76mm guns or 40mm can be used for naval fire support. They can weigh from 12,000 tons to 20,000 tons and also don't possess front bow ramps. It is also from the back for them. Examples are the US San Antonio LPDs, China's Type 71 LPD For better understanding; Pic 1-LST Pic 2-LHD Pic 3- LPD or AAS
|
Maybe not LHDs but the Nigerian Navy needs more than just LSTs. It needs to level up from depending on frigates as it's flagship. Maybe the "Low cost type 31 amphibious assault ship" will do or better still the "Tarlac amphibious assault ship" of the Philippine Navy

Faithful007:Chaaii, see as this comrade rush slot in Nigeria into the equation as an example .Honestly I also want to debate the matter with you but I've had enough of vawulence for one day ranging from "NATO bots that defend Western hypocrisy" to "Ugandan baggers who think they can do better than Russian forces on the battlefield because Ukrainan counter offensive has been paying off". Al Jazeera's Facebook page will not finish me ![]() Maybe another time like Kabe1 said |
bidexiii:BAYRAKTAR HAS ARRIVED!!! |
Nemesis4you:You really believe Iran did not sell those drones to Russia .Although some Iranians that I've interacted with online claim that they were given to Russia for testing and that another bigger, badder wolf is on its way for testing too |
davefurn:So on one hand, Azerbaijan proved the effectiveness of Bayraktar, while on the other hand, a Ukrainan official claims it's trash. Let's see how it work out in the possession of the Nigerian Army. |
davefurn:Thank you, you really get me |
davefurn:Was it not the same Ukraine who hyped the effectiveness of it because it was used to drop bombs on Russian units? The same Bayraktar that the Ukrainans praised because it was used to sink some Russian Navy ships? They even made a hi pop song about the Bayraktar and titled it "Bayraktar". Only God knows if they are still expecting a Grammy award for it .About the HIMARS, we don't even hear about them anymore and I don't think they can shoot down the Shaehd drones but the Shaehd drones can Kamikaze them ![]() |
Nemesis4you:Honestly I thought I was the only one who noticed the game changing effectiveness of the Shahed drones. Thank God you guys are available for me. Seriously those Kamikaze drones have been trending for the past 48 hours. Upon all the air defence systems that were promised by the US, France and Germany, those Iranian drones look un-interceptable. They are small, easily maneuverable and fast. In just 8 days they've knocked out 30% percent of Ukraine's power grid. Just imagine what they can do if they were used to sustain attacks for a full month. Iran's military industrial complex really performed wonders with the manufacture of the drone despite US sanctions and Western arms embargo. But you are right about how a solution will be found to solve the little menace. Till then we enjoy the movie of Russia, Ukraine and NATO Nobody is even talking about Bayraktar anymore, we have a new, cute little heavyweight champion of combat drones ![]() |
Nemesis4you:It has a similar design to the Turkish made Akinci UCAV |
kabe1:Ohh ok |
kabe1:Is it just me or does anyone notice the tyres of Pf viper are small compared to the ones of Proforce Ara MRAPs. |
kabe1:So the Nigerian Army is interested in Bell UH 1D helos. Mhhmmm ![]() Not a bad choice though but do you have any info or update on the NA pilots that were sent to India on pilot training of the HAL Chetak? I think the cost effective and easy maintenance and non strict policy HAL Dhruv will be a better pick over the Bell helos Do you also have any info on the development of the locally made NASENI helicopter for the military? |
Covert1:Is there any way this honest briefing can get to the Ramaphosa administration cause we are coming for Pretoria first. Saffers should not feel relaxed or think we have forgotten our invasion plans. @Lurker4Long, @J115 hope you've made preparations to relocate to Madagascar. Infact we are also coming for Madagascar so "Way and Manner you thin out to Australia, just don't let us catch you when the kasala will burst. ![]() |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUW-IPyxWdM I just can't stop imagining how the Russian Navy is patiently waiting to carry out revenge on this new innocent Ukrainian ship for the sinking of their Moskva Cruiser. If this Ada class Corvette for Ukraine mistakenly sails to the Black Sea, "IT IS FINISHED" ![]() |
, tb2 was stated as trash by an ukrainian top official
