what does 'Yoruba' mean?
'Yoruba' is a commonly used Yoruba word, I don't know the meaning, but it is similar to 'Omo nna'.

ChinenyeN:
Ezeagu, really? As if to say you don't know. . . The Ngwa (like other Igbo groups) have always been their own ethnic identity. Igbo "ethnicity" is a new concoction; an attempt to establish what still isn't.
Igbo ethnicity isn't new. The general use of the word might be new but the Igbo, who's trade routes went on for thousands of miles weren't stupid enough to not know their own ethnicity. The Nri knew this and used it to their advantage to extract tribute, they gave the yam the power it has today. Like every other 'fraction' of the Igbo, the Ngwa originated somewhere between Orlu and Okigwe. Communities in Igboland, especially in the 'borderlands' which include the very recently Igbo settled Abia can trace their communities back to another village/city/town over the Imo. Many of these communities (now from 'different groups') still come together at times to meet up with their kinsmen, yes kinsmen. Many of them share the same village progenitor. Here, click, Coleman tells your peoples story. I know at least Umuahia isn't more than 500 years old, its name and the concept of it being a town that it is now is not any older than Lugard; I don't know about Aba.
PoliticsRe: Reps Okay 10 New States by ezeagu(m): 2:57am On May 01, 2010
All of you people (ALL) are confused. grin Give Ngwa a few years now and they'll be a whole new ethnicity. Infact I'm going to go and advice the Brummies, Cornish, Manx, Scousers and Londoners to create a Brummy, Cornwall, Isle of Man, Scouse and London state in England. grin

St. Georges Day what? grin

Haha. . nnwa Ohnuhnu, you have jokes. This is the 21st century, and as such, we reserve our right to demand for our people. I speak the truth, too. I'm not denying that Ngwa has fallen from the limelight, but that does not, in any way, mean that I and my people must agree to being stuffed together with old Bende.

By the way, I am male, in case your Aro eyes seem to be failing you.
What will 'Aba state' give 'your people'?

Speak for yourself.
Since when did development tie into state creation? This is all politics my friend. Kinsmen. .? hahah. . direct that statement to someone else. We are not synonymous with the rest of the old Bende district of people. So, no such thing as kinsmen, nnwa Ohnuhnu.

Hardtalk:
What kind of country is this? Common computerised notice board cannot be afforded by airport management, yet, people are jubilating International status!. Anyway, I am not surprised. Our own definition of International airport is removing the black board or paper, and now fixing another one with graphics design. As for the runway, it is another way of embezzling money. Soon, a probe panel will be set to investigate the over-bloated cost of changing their so-called status.
That's subject to any money being put in in the first place.

What arrant nonsense. The vast majority of Lagosians certainly do not live in makeshift settlements like Makoko. You need to find other data in order to achieve your obvious objective of cheap political point-scoring.
After all that English 70%+ of Lagos inhabitants will still live in waste and the people who developed the language will continue to laugh at your denial.

It's such a joke when Nigerians compare Nigeria to the United States. grin

The BBC showed the reality for 70%+ of Lagos inhabitants, anybody saying otherwise has never been to Lagos.

Could someone please tell me where in London or the whole of the UK any person picks food from a rubbish tip because they have to? And could you also tell me what happened to homeless shelters and benefits?

The ironic thing about this response from Nigeria is that people will further see them as even more corrupt while they're trying to hide these seemingly innocent people in order not to 'tarnish' Nigerias non existent image. They'll look like dictators and people afraid of the truth, which isn't far from the truth. . . . . at all.

And for all these people talking about 'they didn't show the good side', here it is in simple language: Lagos is a pile of crap with wealth dotted around it. You can't put lipstick on a pig and expect people to call it a swan, NOOOO, it's a SWINE. . . . . SWINE, SWINE, SWINE! Most of Lagos is a dump, most Nigerian cities are dumps, go on and tell your white friends (that you already feel inferior to) that it is film tricks BBC spun.

^^^

As far as I know, majority of Igbos are decendants of Eri/Nri, so why call only me Nri Igbo?

Like I said before, we have no classification.
I don't know about that. And they can't be called Nri Igbo because they do not practice the Nri Igbo culture, do you celebrate Ekpe or have oyaya war dancers in your town?
PoliticsRe: What Is The Nationality? And What Is Your Nationality? by ezeagu(m): 11:42pm On Apr 19, 2010
006:
I never knew that. So does it mean all of Anambra is Nri Igbo (except Onicha)? because such classifications are rare in Anambra. Enugu folks nicknamed as "Agbaenu". They never called us Nri.
Onicha are on their own, they have a king and originate from different places, e.g Igala. How many Igbo people know what Nri's significance is?

Aguda/Amaro is my ethnicity Nigerian is my natonality, Yoruba is culture and language.
So you're "sufficiently conscious of your unity" with Igbo people and Igboland?

006:
I am from Anaocha local gov’t area of Anambra State. We’re neither Oka, Nri, nor Onicha. In fact, we have no classification.

You contradicted yourself. From your definition of Nationality, Aro, Ngwa, Ikwerre, are all Nationalities but not ethnicities.
Igbo Ethnicity is made up of several Igbo nations.
You are actually Nri Igbo. And yes you could say the Ngwa and Ikwerre are nations.

why are we having this discussion to begin with?

Peeps that want to discuss nationality, tribes, and other stuff should make their way to the "culture" section, its just down by the corner!
So the idea that people see themselves as separate nations in the so called 'Nigerian na[rra]tion' is not political?

What's the meaning of Igbo Nationality and Ngwa/Aro/etc Ethnicity?

Folks una don come again, na so Ikwerres take start oo, before you know it, dey say dey no be Igbo.

Myself, I no get any classification like Aro, Ngwa, Nsukka, does it mean I no get ethnicity?

I beg make una stop dis nonsense.
What area are you from? Nationality is, according to dictionary.com:

noun
1.
a large body of people, associated with a particular territory, that is sufficiently conscious of its unity to seek or to possess a government peculiarly its own: The president spoke to the nation about the new tax.

The Igbo did not indetify as 'Igbo' 200 years ago, some didn't know some 'sub-groups' existed even till this day, have you heard of Ikwo?

ethnicity

noun
1.
ethnic traits, background, allegiance, or association.

Most communities in igboland identify with themselves first before the larger Igbo body, hence the Ezillo-Eza clashes, did you hear about that? There's actually an ongoing war in Igboland, but in a relatively unknown state.

If the majority of a group does not identify with another group, they should not be forced to, this is in regards to the Ikwerre.
