Guys Warrisgoing on with Health Surcharge please?? I tried to pay for 2 years under Tier 2 and it’s charging us the equivalent of £1,800. Did I miss a particular memo? It’s meant to be £400 per year! Even if they charge 1 year extra it’s £1,200. I’m tayad! cry

Anyone have a similar experience? Note that my husband’s own (main applicant) went through ok. It’s we the dependents that the figure is turninoniown.
I had a similar experience with Tier 4 application the course is for 20months and IHS charge became £750 at the point of payment. I am suspecting an increase but they may be planning to refund best call them to confirm.

Also what's the duration of the COS date you are using? Maybe that has increased the duration over 24months

Ehnn cloth you fit return the next day , but home is your sanctuary and place to rest after all the rat race hussle for the day ............... Let me find my koboko so i can flog you and your husband smiley cheesy grin . Abeg no try am again ooo . Even if you are busy monday to friday , there is saturday to go view a property

however that has happened, if it crappy then a landlord needs to be held accountable . Reach out to him or the agent that you will report this to the council . Maybe that will him make come and work on it . i would definitely reach out to the council to access the property

Lastly you cannot throw anything that belongs to the landlord if its a furnished apartment ..........if you do when you move out he will take it from your deposit and buy himself new things. you can store it in the house and use your things but dont remove or throw away except you have an agreement in writing
I agree at the bolded lol, you that always give good advise. For your peace of mind and if not expensive fix it yourself and mail the receipt to the agency, expressing how it greatly inconvenienced you and your disappointment at their services.

This LL seems to me like someone who will want to hold on to your deposit. If possible dont stay long in that house and keep all correspondence of complaints.

Quick questions guys, can a tier 2 visa applicant, use his dependant’s (wife) account to certify maintenance for visa application as she has enough money saved more than 6 months in her account, the trust he got a job with did not certify maintenance for him.
You can use the main applicant account. See link for confirmation https://www.gov.uk/tier-2-general/family-members

The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) was a scheme from 2002 until 2008, that was designed to allow highly skilled people to immigrate into the United Kingdom to look for work or self-employment opportunities.

There were many online calculators to use and the younger you were the better but I dont think it was that difficult. You needed 75points to get in. I was on like 90 point for initial and renewal so 75 was very much achievable, .... maintain it for 4 years and ILR next....it was later changed to 5 years then ILR . ....by 2008 the government's start remixing it and it never became the same again and was cancelled. Aunty May policy then became about reducing net immigration so she removed almost everything removable .... although I can see why non EU people flooded hsmp then coupled with more countries added to EU in 04 and 07
Ohh, thanks for the explanation. Why cant they bring the HSMP back then? It seems more immigration friendly than other Point based system because you can easily get ILR after a certain period.

Will vote for any party promoting that grin grin

The 2 year PSW is a ‘dead end’ route.
It has ALWAYS been like that.

The Australian-style PBS is a different kettle of fish.
Never knew. We wait and see.

The Australia PBS both UK and US are just making as a benchmark reference is currently very very difficult to get. If they promise us Canada style then I am all in......

Those 2 years of PSW previously didnt count to residency and somehow people hussled the work visa for 5 years and naturalised . Especially if they can bring back HSMP that didnt tie you to an employer

The problem with this article is that while it has some merit that UK did have a point base system but stating it is currently in place and citing Tier 2 as an example is just a wash .......Tier 2 is a not a true point based immigration system, neither are those visa listed there in wiki . They might be point based in NAME but the"yeah right" type cheesy

However yes UK is not new to point based immigration system. I am a product of HSMP and that was a proper point based immigration system. The concept is just a recycled idea that the conservatives are trying to sell using buzz words but for me its a big yes to bringing it back , it was fair and opened to everyone , didn't tie you to an employer(most impt) and it was used by my people as a pathway as i know severallllllllllll.
More reason why I wont even trust the so called Australian Point based system offered is because of their curren half baked post study Visa permit to be introduced in summer of 2021.

Reading the fine print, those 2 years doesnt add to your "yr of continuous residence in the UK" so if you cant switch to Tier 2 in those 2 years like this another course/money loading.... for the next 8/9years

In addition to all the advise provided, make sure your LinkedIn profile is very attractive and contains the buzz word for accounting professionals and also enable the job search option for recruiters to find you.

Go on your local council website to search for some trainee jobs. Also, lots of construction companies recruit account assistant et al. Check banks website as well to apply for some customer service roles if you haven't done this already.

Also enable google search for accounting jobs near me, it will send you regular updates.

Hello everyone,

I want to thank everyone on this thread for the amazing job you are doing. You guys help thousands of people without even knowing it.

My process was successful without stress and I just landed in the UK. Special thanks to Justwise and Lexusgs430 - I was even applying for the wrong visa if not for their guidance and they kept assisting me through out the process. Special thanks to fatima04, Hunnybee and Uglyduckling for answering my questions when I needed assistance. May God bless you all abundantly.

Short story:
On my way from Obalende some time last month, a random guy's phone rang, he picked up and after listening for a while (the caller was somewhat distressed), he said "calm down, calm down, everything will be alright. Don't send any money to any agent, I will ask Justwise on our forum to know if it's true and let you know once he replies".
I smiled because I knew it could only be one Justwise. He has saved more hearts than any heart surgeon can imagine cheesy

To everyone who contributes on this thread, just know that you are helping lots of people out there and on behalf of all those who never came back to appreciate you all, I say THANK YOU!! As you help in making people's dreams come true, may everything you lay your hands upon prosper without limits and may all your dreams com true.
Congratulations and welcome. Please keep updating us on settling in et al. All the best.

Also appreciating everyone dt contributes on the thread one way or another.. Never thought this page was going to grow this much when it first started.

Gods blessing on us all

Hello house, I'm grateful for the counsel I've gotten from here. I got offers from 2 nhs, in peterborough and wolverhampton. I need insight on which area is better in terms of safety, transport, reduced traffic, housing, entertainment and shopping. Any advice is wanted please. I googled but only got scared with crime and danger I found online. Thank you.
To be honest anywhere you choose to go in the UK is good in terms of your questions above.

However, I am biased towards Wolverhampton because its my locale and I like everything about it,its proximity to Birmingham (second largest city in UK), good balance of various ethnic groups (this is key for quick and easy adaptation), easy access to naija food, cheap and easy access to different transportation links (bus, train and tram), and so many other things.

Regarding weather, there wont be so much difference between both cities really. Wish you all the best in your choice.

Let me know if you choose Wolverhampton and have any further question, need ideas or help.

If I was alone, I would spend far less. Most studios are all bills inclusive. I will do things for my self knowing that I am alone. I cleared all I have to go to the east to marry, under the illusion that you have to pay much to get great value. But after paying that, and we are in the hard times, we can't contribute to make each other less stressed.

When I was paying the rent in Naija, fuelling the gen daily, buying food stuff, there was no problem. Mind you the siblings she is sending all her resources to have their own families and careers but are opportunist seeking to relocate because their sisters did. I have siblings who can also agitate to relocate too. But we are less than 6months here, and they know it's going to have a toll on me.

When she delivers and she has barely no earning during maternity, as she has informed me, how worse will it be for me? Won't it be helpful for her to give a little now that she has some earning power.

I'll keep looking ahead with the same positivity I had yesterday, as I know for sure that there is reaping and sowing.
I believe it's just pain talking at the bolded. Alot of people start helping their families immediately they land here because they know how tough naija is so it isn't really about being an opportunist.

Just calm down and have a heart to heart talk with your madam. I bet she may not even know you are starting to despise her this much and the more you harbour this thought the further your marriage and mental health is going down the line.

Quote where I ever mentioned 50-50. I have nothing to proof to you. A lady who hasn't been to the market for 3months would be buying foods stuff. I go to the market because she can't bear carrying weight and I use my money too to buy the stuff. I can show screen grab of she asking me to buy one thing or the other when I am on my way back. And not once have I objected. Every single month despite my complaints, I have bought gifts when I am paid for her. I haven't gotten same.

I don't want a thank you but an acknowledgment that, "I know and seen that you are doing alot" but none of that at the moment.

Lagosismyhome I have gotten your mail and would send a message shortly
It's so sad to read, considering how early this is in your marital and UK life. I think the basic issues here is due to lack of communication and unrealistic expectations from both parties.

The reason why some are seemingly taking your wife sides is because some of the reasons (perfume and garbage throwing) stated by yourself compounded things and made it seem like you are the inconsiderate party.

You have to both sit down and talk about your finances right now before a child comes in because

A. She wont be earning so much during maternity leave
B. Babies or kids are expensive
C. If you go through divorce your Bill's is going to be double because of child support and her maintenance.

Have you sat down and talked seriously with her? You need to sit down together (shock her and
plan a romantic trip sef ) ask her what she really wants in the marriage and go from there. All this can easily be resolved from series of discussions and agreement.

Clearly, you were comfortable paying Bill's back in Nigeria and this shouldn't really change since you are the Man of the house. However, we all know that is not easy in this part of the world.
I can attribute her changes to hormones because we all experience it differently.

Just accommodate her till the baby is born and be prepared for huge changes because more chores is coming your way. Try your best to create and provide a peaceful home for your child. You owe HIM/HER that much

Involving the family should also be an option before separation or divorce. Like Ralph said this marriage was contracted in Nigeria in love so discover the love again.

Wishing you all the best.

Yes you can, you don't need the international driving licence, your regular Nigerian licence is adequate. You can use it for up to a year from your first arrival date to the UK.
This is what I did when I initially moved here. Then I switched to full UK licence after about 6 months. Funny enough, my insurance was cheaper using my Nigerian licence, it increased by £100 after I switched to full UK. Admiral said it was because I have now become 'a new driver' mshewww thieves. I switched to Aviva shortly afterwards and paid about 40% less.
How come people are getting cheap Aviva insurance and I was told I couldn't get a quote since I was new to the country (2yrs).

Question is what occupation do you intend to nominate

Hi guys! So happy to finally make the switch to this thread cheesy How do I go about getting my NI? And also getting a job with a dependant visa, what jobs can I get and how to I go about it? Are there any short courses I can take to increase my chances of getting a good offer? I studied engineering in school.
When did you get your BRP? It is now being added to the back of BRP of recent applicant (dependent applicant), so no need to apply.

For jobs, update your CV and LinkedIn profile, post your CV details on all job site you can lay your hands on(reed, cvlibrary, totaljobs, indeed etc). Apply for jobs related to your experience with good structured cover letter and keep "shooting your shot" with any job advert that can be tailored to your expertise.

Be resilient and call as many recruiters as you can for followup. Will add more tips if I remember.

All the best

Canada process takes at least 1 year provided you can get the required english score and assessment done and get the ITA within 4 to 6months. And there is no additional point to be gained from applying from in the UK. All in all make sure both of you dont overstay your Visa if not bye bye to anywhere else

my dear...

it was a bad one.. infact it was like a dream..

the Officer screened my passport, then asked if i had issues getting the visa.. i said NO..

then he asked if i have ever been refused before, i said Once.. and then he flipped and went into ogbanje mode asking why i lied earlier on..

i got confused in my mind telling him he asked 2 different questions to which i replied.. and its also stated in my spousal visa application..

He then took me to the detention center section and gave me a form stating why i might be denied entry and all.. ticked the boxes stating pending my answers to further questions i will know if i will be let in..

guess whathuh na so i see 4 nigerian boys dey display.. and he probably used that pattern to judge me too cos the boys were all going cray.. one was asked if his wife worked and he said no.. then asked if he worked.. na so story dey go for the guy..

then there was another indian looking guy who was asking for his lawyer..

i was on the phone wit my wife, and asked to not use phones.. so i obeyed and waited for the officer who was with another checking some records on the monitor..

fam... i was just chewing gum trying to be calm.. like i didnt go thru all these to stop here..

10mins later he came back wt my passport stamped and said he was sorry he needed to do more enquiries into my case cos of my response.. i told him his question wasnt clear..

asked him abt the detention form.. and he said its nothing... i cud tear it up.. then he took it and squeezed it all. .showing me my stamp.. and saying im free to go.. that i wasnt detained but the form was to let me know i needed to answer some questions..

na so i go carousel to pick my bags only to see them on the floor.. broken and damaged ..

Also, flight from Lagos left like an hour late, so i almost missed the connecting flight to London at Istanbul..

what a day...

got my BRP sha and just dey rest...
Sorry about your experience, dont worry when you collect RED passport, they will add some respect to your name. Welcome to the land

Yes, I have seen that and uploaded it before
I just need to be clear with regards to the very last sentence there

1.I currently have a tier 2 leave to remain since my application was made and granted with the UK
2.In my COS, my sponsor ticked find maintenance for me and the COS is still valid
3. My sponsor is A rated and I didn’t submit any proof of fund maintenance

With the above three points, does it mean that I don’t need to submit proof of fund for my spouse.

English is not my papa language, when it comes to this immigration grammar, sometimes, I just need someone else to help me understand
You dont need to submit proof of fund if its leave to remain. The maintenance part is for tier 2 "leave to enter" applicants mostly and not people already settled here
