This is really getting lugubrious..

I have never been a fan of insurance stocks....but when the valuation for a couple of them became so good i had to start visisting my friends who work in the sector to hear more on happenings there..

From all indications this year will be a bad one for the insurance coys.. the IFRS thingy has been hitting them bad.. u know 'Full Disclosure' no be small thing and these guys have never been able to keep clean books!

So there will be so many write offs and provisions! I will advise you sell off all you have there and enter better stocks.. by next year hopefully i will play there cos by them al ot of clean up must have been done and the new "NO PREMIUM, NO POLICY' things will definitely make them to become cash cows unlike now where Insuranc ebrokers are short changing them!

mercylicious: Una see mkt today? A lot of bloodshedding and blood letting.d treasured fidson, livestock and even eterna was beaten blue black.
This mkt fit give person high pb when monitored closely, bt overall, I've learnt one thing- the bears will always come. Never be in a haste to invest in the bulls, wait for d bears for a good entry point and then ride with the bulls. The only exception to this rule is during the earning season.

Dont be too sure! On a personal note i feel the market hasnt fallen down enough..Diamond bank in particular did not get to my bid price of N6.

Japaul just released unaudited Q1'13.

Fairly impressive turnover from last year, and average PAT if N334m, even though I wasn't expecting that much. But guys, analysing it, i think there is a hidden story here. What made the Operating Cost jump 47% within a single year, without any commensurate increase in branch expansion or new projects.Even the cost of sales grew by just a little above 23%. That has seriously eaten into profits for shareholders. Many shareholders of Japaul are not too happy with the way Jegs is running things.
Anyway, I will be waiting the Audited results.

WHY WOULD ANY INVESTOR INVEST IN THIS TYPE OF COY?

I think you should better sell off all you have here and cut ur losses...lets leave the coy to Mr Jegede and his children to run and Milk well well.....

Toluway: Thank you Sellydion and feelamong. I actually share your opinion and that was why I expressed worries that people are taking profits so frequently. I also dont believe in selling a stock at a lose. You only need to wait for the trend to cough your money back, as long as the company does not die. That is why it is advisable to buy companies with good fundamentals.
Please Feelamong, how do you bid for a stock at 10% margin to your advantage? I have been trying to study this concept but I haven't got it.

Just look at the closing price for yesterday....calculate a 10% of the price and deduct..for eg a N10 stock will mean N1 off at >10% ..so i will bid at N9 and hopefully pick it up from a desperate seller or broker who must earn his fees at whatever price!

This is an account of what happened last Wednesday as relayed by my broker.
For the most part of the trading session, there were bids and no one wanted to sell. There was a long queue of bids. The bids had been there for days b4 Wednesday.

Then towards the end of the session, some people sold, this was followed by some some other people who also sold. Afterwards, everybody started selling. It now turned into a panick selling scenario, which continued till yesterday. cheer psychology. No iota of economic reasons. Is this the normal behaviour or it is a reflection of the stage of our socio-economic development? Somebody talk to me!

This is exactly how the stock market works everywhere in the world...a few big sellers start to sell, so many other small sellers panic and also start selling and it continues...smae thing happens when its time to buy!

Why we should never panic if you know what you are doing..Market was already in an over bought region for some time and only a few stocks were still rightly or under valued...

For those with cash,.. enjoy! but for me i have had to sell off some of my good position as i believe this panic sales will throw up a lot of good entry prices for some very good well sought after stocks!

I will advise you cut your losses and move on to another good stock..These OANDO guys do not mean well for their shareholders! i did same sometime early in the year after loosing up to 30% and the money was invested into Access Bank for got 25% return before I sold off recently. I know where to put the money soonest to fully get back my initial capital!

mercylicious: I don't know why vitafoam didn't fall with others yesterday. Am very heavy now wit vitafoam. Money don finish.I was informed that d the large chunk of money am expecting on july 1st will drastically reduce as it will be heavily taxed. Heard income tax is now on all allowances including share of profit. Wahala dey 4 this world ooo.

Hmmmmm. you must be working for one of the big banks on the Island! My wife complained abt the same thing yesterday ,..said the FIRS guys are closing up on them seriously as per taxing allowances.. Notin spoil yet! This is the time to give Mileage to the small allowances we receive byt researching very well before putting our money into any stock!

The Tbill rates are gradually going up and cannot be ignored anymore! I will reduce my stock market exposure for now until i see very excellent deals as the market drops..seems some large investors are gradually moving their funds to the fixed income areas!

gbanikiti: Lagos-Badagry road is worse than Iyana Ipaja -Abule egba -Sango ota road. mazamaza, abule ado, barracks, volks, iyana isashi, iyana era and agbara are the worst hits on traffic along that road. Iyana ipaja road is wider compared to Lagos badagry road.

9jaCrusade: If I may add, Diamond will drag for sometime barring the X factor. They want to expand, the are looking for $750M. I would not expect any serious company to dole out dividends when they are looking at borrowing that much. It is very good for a long term hold but not short term. I had to drop it this morning from my mandate. UBA is a better choice for me.

Well, am not a speculator... I buy based on valuations (EPS of N1.52 and PE of 4.4)

UBA is an excellent buy but I already have a good chunk in my portfolio..also i dont buy stocks when they are hot and on every radar!..sold off my Diamond earlier at N7 and i think at this price its very good to go in..BTW who is not raising fund...I will rather a good manager raises fund as it will mean greater earnings in the coming season!
