PoliticsRe: Ngozi Okonjo-iweala To Talk To Christiane Amanpour Tonight by feelamong(m): 8:17am On Apr 17, 2013
Raymond4kc: Transcript of the interview.

AMANPOUR: Welcome back to the program. Africa's most populous nation, Nigeria, is full of promise. But fulfilling that promise is sometimes a struggle. Plagued by corruption and mismanagement, the resource-rich country has a poverty rate of over 50 percent. Maternal mortality is shockingly high. And more than half of Nigerians don't have access to electricity.

Nigeria's president, Goodluck Jonathan, can't even escape the power problem himself. Here he is on Easter Sunday, delivering a speech to his people only to have it disrupted by a blackout. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala says that she and her president want more for the country. She's Nigeria's finance minister and she's been lauded as just the kind of reformer that Nigeria needs. She was a runner-up to lead the World Bank and "Forbes" ranked her as one of the world's most powerful women.

9free: The SMN Billionaires club members don dey show themselves. Abeg, how I fit join una club?
Personally i dont enjoy SMN..too monotonous.. to many big boiz with eyes for money only talking abt stocks! moreover in Nairaland i have the freedom to talk as i like in Politics and also the car slaes zone in Auto gives me extra dough whenver am able to fling cars.. not to talk abt the small small deals i do in the business section!

Seun: One of the benefits of the uniform price auction is price discovery. If I know that I will pay the same rate as everyone else, I will be motivated to bid the lowest rate that I can accept in order not to miss out completely. So the final price will truly reflect the rates that people are actually willing to accept for the given supply of tbills. When the rates go down, it means there is more demand, and when the rates go up it means there is less demand. The interest rates can be used to make investment and policy decisions because the rates mean something.

The current auction format causes people to bid higher than the minimum they are willing to accept. It makes them bid slightly lower than what they think others are going to bid. This makes the cut-off rate completely meaningless, because instead of representing true demand and supply, it represents what some people think other people will bid. If the rates go up, it may be because of reduced demand, but it could also be because people thought there would be reduced demand. If the rates go down, it could be because of increased demand, or because people thought there would be increased demand. This adds a random error to the stop rate and makes it a less reliable basis for making investment decisions.

The current system is good for insiders who probably know what the stop rate is likely to be, but it's bad for the rest of us. sad
I think the current sysytem is good for the borrower (CBN/FGN) and who am I to complain when i cannot get this rate from any commercial bank tax free!
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by feelamong(op): 11:57am On Apr 11, 2013
Seun: @papillo: In developed countries, everyone will get the same rate, but in Nigeria, you will get the rate you bid for, which is wrong.
bros leave those developed people joor!

why should every one get the same rate? I stick out my neck risk and you no wan risk; and you want make we all enjoy the same rate? Abegi!!

anyway thats the beauty of Tbills.. it comes with some element of gambling and thats why we love it!
InvestmentRe: Are Nigerian Stock Market Reports And Earnings Real? by feelamong(m): 10:56am On Apr 11, 2013
As for me the only Real earnings i can see on the NSE are the ones declared by Foreign owned coys listed on the NSE! I keep these shares for the long term! As for the Nigerian owned businesses.. I trade on them like most others on the NSE do..I dont try to keep the shares! its just in and out as fast as I can!

The coporate governance is still very poor and until people start going to jail for Creative accounting and Insider Abuse as is seen in most Nigerian businesses.. I dont want to believe all their earnings and buy their shares for keep!

debostar: I hope we are not having a market bubble similar to that of 2008.All the stocks are crashing at a rate faster than they rise.he When the shares were appreciating ,the 10% rise did not apply, but when they are depreciating by as much as 10% per day.I suspect manipulation in the Nigerian stock market. Where are the so called market makers who are supposed to be like circuit breakers
see oppurtunities are being created for money to be made and you are complaining!

ok o! you can tell that to poeple that made 100% on Diamongd bank, UBA and sterling bank late last year!

over the past years i have seen sure banker in Nahco.. and i understand their line of business and also understand that they have a good foreign holdings in management hence better corporate governance!

i remenber when Flour mills fell to N15 in 2009 due to foreign exchange loss and many punters wrote off the stock.. but i stoood with them and over time I have been well rewarded. I dont write off stocks of coys with good foreign ownership!

Bros.. that NAHCO did not do well is not news to us anymore but like i tell people, the Stock market is along term business....for me NAHCO may not be the stock to beat in the immediate term but by this time 9 months from now we will review our positions....I have seen their new investments in warehousing and Power and the fact remains that Naija is aHub for Airline business. i have been buying NAHCO since it result came out..i have succedded in reducing my average cost to N6.00 I will keep mopping at <9% daily and the pick up my dividend at maybe an average cost of N3.5 depending on how low it goes.. am targeting a dividend yield of 7%
InvestmentRe: Flour Mills Paid Me After Bagco Merger by feelamong(m): 8:02am On Apr 09, 2013
debeey87: Hello Guys,
I got a text from GTB today stating that 1000+ was paid into my account from the merger of flour mills with Bagco. Abeg I want to know,is it that they are paying people back in comensurate with their shares or its just dividend payment because I know bagco has not paid me any dividend or bonus since I bought it.

Thanks
There was an arrangement by Flour Mills to take over bagco plc. Shareholders were all advised to fill a form indicating if they wanted to convert their shares to Flour Mills or to be given cash for the Bagco shares they had. In the arrangement if you wanted cash, you will be paid N2.75 for any bagco shares you had while the Bagco shares will be converted to Flour mills at 25 shares to one Flour Mills.

Since you did not indicate that you wanted Flour Mills shares, the obviously you will be paid the cash...enjoy!!

stockbull: although, most young investors do not invest in bond. The bond market require huge capital but there is need to discuss bond investment as an alternative to stock, how to go about it, rewards and others
Actually Bonds do not require huge amount of money....You can buy with as little as N10,000=

I do buy bonds at times but i dont seem to like it cos it was not very liquid as one needs to hold till maturity....but with the secondary market trading ..am sure it makes sence to buy some now!

Why are you not impressed? have you forgotten that they paid N.25k Interim dividend....this makes it N1.55k for the year!

I prefer banks that pay Interim Div! these dividends help my cash flow especially when i need to go for summer!!

Seun: @feelamong: It seems unlikely that you won't get charged at some point when you're moving your funds around in this complicated manner. I bet you are paying certain fees to Fidelities Securities each time you trade, since they are not a charity.
To be sincere with you, I dont get to pay any charge other than the .125%!

I dont pay any fees on my stock trading account other that what other customers pay..1.81% for purchase and 2.18% for sales!

If you understand how these banks work.. you will always find a way round their funny charges..BTW i was once a banker!

Seun: Please tell us more about this! Which bank and what's the name of their investment arm?
I have said it here before that am a shrewd investor! I put most of my investment funds in Fidelity Securities.. i get to buy TB through them and when i collect my upfront I pay the cheque into my savings account in the Fidelity Bank and then wire to my savings in other banks!

I have found it most convenient with the advent of internent banking. Moreover they are my stock brokers so i can easily move my funds from Stocks to Tbills witout any charges or COT!
