Honestly I will really have loved to do HDF too but I am hearing N33,000 in Abuja for HDF. Is it because of water damage you advice not to use MDF? Will it be really bad even with the mixture of the high gloss board that will be used. Also note that marble will be used on the top of the cabinets all round and the island too. This was not included in the quote. I am thinking the marble will provide some projection against water splashes. Let me know what you think.

Why do our woodworking professionals resist clients who suggest the use of MDF in kitchen cabinets?

Would the cost of treating the MDF to be such as the one shown in the video exceed the cost of HDF?

You guys are losing a lot of money by not applying Research and Development so as to grab this part of the market who either cannot afford HDF or who consider the cash outlay for HDF too exorbitant.

Why not recommend things that can reduce the moisture level of the kitchen?

Gotta say this because I have had MDF kitchen furniture since 2017 and I did not implement any of the humidity-reducing/counteracting measures that I am now aware of and the MDF has not swelled.

Even that which is directly above the cooker.

I have never been a fan of high fences and gates. Why build a fine house to hide it all behind a fence almost taller than the building itself?

About security, I believe fence alone doesn't provide any, no matter how high. It could even be detrimental in some cases.

I prefer to keep it low, light up the area with solar, and security cameras. Quality doors and some rugged dogs.

Fate will handle the rest.

In addition to what you are saying above, not all short fences are benign, there is a technology that can pick up footsteps as a wall is approached and will alert the homeowner long before the person coming even gets to the wall.

Who is to say or who is to know if the short fence is not such a short fence?

And this can be combined with other technologies for comprehensive protection

I just completed the renovation of my place and I am about to attempt this.

I spent all of yesterday at Kugbo wood market and I have cut all the wood panels that I intend to use to do this.

I have also spent some time on relevant YouTube videos and I have assembled carpenters to assist me make this happen

If you need plastering that is as perfect as possible, you can call this number ------------, I have collaborated with this guy for 2 weeks. I wholeheartedly recommend him.

He knows his craft through and through.

But beyond knowing his craft, he has a pleasant personality and was willing to accept my modifications to his standard operating procedure (SOP), after all, it is my build, and when he goes, I will live with what he left behind.

This is relevant because I have collaborated with another tradesman whose story I am yet to tell who had the most unpleasant disposition and almost caused someone’s death on my premises due to disregard for safety precautions and who I vowed not to use again and promised to write a detailed review to cancel the recommendation of him I posted earlier.

That story is for another day.

In my quotations, I start with dollars but convert them to Naira.

Then add a reasonable margin, then use a future non-existent exchange rate such as (if the black market rate today is $1=N750) then I could use $1=850

But since it is required that I quote in Naira, I submit the quote in Naira.

That way whatever happens to the Naira, I will simply lose some profit but not all.

That has worked for me for years.

I used the Karcher to wash my vehicle successfully over the weekend.

I was also able to use it more efficiently to wet walls before they were plastered and to wet the walls after they were plastered.

This is the science behind it according to "Raghunath Vardaraja" as found on Quora:

The purpose of ADDING WATER according according to water CEMENT RATIO in PREPARATION OF ANY CONCRETE WORK, is to see that THE SILICATE IN SAND REACTS “ COMPLETELY WITH THE ALUMINA in CEMENT.

Now IF U APPLY CEMENT MORTAR to a DRY WALL SURFACE, THE DRY WALL WILL ABSORB MOST OF THE WATER IN MORTAR. Now THE MORTAR IS DEPRIVED OF THE REQUIRED WATER CONTENT and THE HARDENING PROCESS STOPS , WHICH IS THE CHEMICAL REACTION BETWEEN SILICATE IN SAND AND ALUMINA(,raw material BAUXITE, WHILE CEMENT IS MANUFACTURED) IN CEMENT, IN PRESENCE OF WATER. This RESULTS IN CRACKS IN MORTAR SURFACES, AS IT DRIES AND SHRINKS.

And as to why it is necessary to also wet wells after they have been plastered?

According to the website dreamcivil dot com:

“Curing of plaster refers to the process of maintaining the temperature and the moisture of plaster within the acceptable range for the hydration reaction such that the plaster develops into a hard mass with desirable properties“.

Curing is not only the application of water over the plastered surface; preventing the loss of moisture is also the type of curing.

It also suggested that the "Curing of cement plaster should be executed after 24 hours of the plastering work and should be done for minimum of 7 days. ( As hydration reaction takes place for about 28 days. Curing for nearly 28 days is best if possible. )"


By using the high-pressure washing machine, I am able to wet the plaster by curing new newly plastered walls without wasting water. This is especially relevant as I am resolved to wait the full 28 days for curing to complete before I paint.

I was also able to use the DirtBlaster functionality to clean up post-renovation/construction mess indoors. The powerful blast of water under pressure made the work easy.

According to the Karcher website: "Thanks to the powerful entry rotary nozzle, the dirt blaster removes even very stubborn dirt and cleans to a shine. The rotating point jet effortlessly removes atmospheric dirt, quickly helping to restore mossy or weathered surfaces, for example. The dirt blaster also offers a large area performance. Suitable for all Kärcher pressure washers in classes K 1 and K 2 Entry. "

So I will use this entry-level machine in the meantime while I make arrangements to get a more powerful model for cleaning the rest of the house.

To achieve maximum pressure do not connect the pressure hose to the machine until you have turned it on and run it for about 2 to 3 minutes, then you can connect the pressure hose, then you will appreciate how it makes cleaning easier.

I have tried the above and connecting the pressure hose at once, and the difference is as clear as night and day.

Also never use the DirtBlaster on your vehicle, use the Vario spray nozzle and set it to mid to wash your car without fear of damaging the paintwork

It is worth the money.

Like I said before I highly recommend and I wonder why I did not get it any sooner than now.

I had thought it through, that the best is to contract the job to other artisans. I asked him when he came around if the poor job he did, matches the standard of the house?? He even damaged some of my window edges in the course of fixing the frames..sad..

Sorry for your own share of experience, I know there are diligent and honest artisans, identifying them is the main issue. I wouldn't mind referrals.

I have had my own fair share of disappointments with artisans and I am now resolved to have multiple options and to never wholely and solely rely on one person.

To illustrate, I left work to complete a project that I have been doing only on weekends due to lack of time.

I would call an artisan and agree that he would show up the next day, and the next day he fails to show up on the grounds that I should have called him again on the morning of the day he was supposed to show up. I said I wasn't aware that agreements have to be renewed on the morning of the day they were supposed to be enforced.

In another case, he said he did not have transportation and then I sent him transportation and he never showed up, I messaged him he did not respond. When the guy who introduced him reached out to him, he claimed he had no airtime to inform me and most importantly, that he went to another job site.

I know there are honest artisans, but they seem to be the exception rather than the rule.

Now, I will not have time during the week anymore and all that I planned to achieve during my days away from the office did not happen due to the disappointment and the need to find alternatives to stand in at the last minute, meanwhile I had a deadline to finish all the work by this weekend

I made a report about Adedward , an aluminium guy whom I contracted some jobs too since the 6th of August, 2022, based on reaching out to me for assistance and previous work relationship. I remembered quite a number of people on this forum were demanding for his identity and even sent reminders on the status of the job, following a grace period of 1 week after he had delayed for so long to see if he will keep to his promise of completing the job... I was however shocked only two people from the pool of Nairalanders calling for his identity commented on my report/post, quite funny though.. This report was made on this forum on 7th of November, 2022.

Today makes it exactly 127 days after I contracted this job to Adedward and 34 days after I reported him on this platform, with no significant progress made on the job till date.

I remembered him responding to my post, even though some of his allegations were false, I decided not to trade words with him, all I wanted is a completion of the jobs I gave to him in the shortest possible time. He reached out and promised to complete my work within a week of my post.

He came with his apprentice boy afterwards, while I was away in my station outside Lagos, to work on the window nets, he left the boy to do the job. I returned to meet the boy 5 days later, doing nothing after he was partly done with the frame nets which were poorly fixed and uncompleted. The boy was doing nothing, just sleeping and waking up, with my wife taking care of his feeding day and night. He was staying in my BQ. All the while, Adedward refused to show up. Three days after my arrival, I told the boy to leave and return to his boss, since he was literally not doing anything. It was then he told me his oga has instructed him to go get the net materials and that he will be coming with the remaining frames for the window nets. This didn't happen that day and I had to return to my station the next day.

I remembered discussing with him over the phone for the side elbow for the downspout part of the rain water collector, after he told me he was bringing in some boys to complete the rain collector. I even had to send him money for additional 14 Pcs, when he claimed it was not in original calculation, but to my greatest surprise he came around with just 4 Pcs. The boys came and could only do about 10% of the job, cos obviously the rain collector parts he had bought were not complete, as some important parts for joining the gutters were grossly insufficient, in fact the boys complained that the materials were not enough. It was then it dawned on me that he only bought some of the needed materials and dumped them onsite as a pretense that what was left is workmanship.

He, Adedward even came at some time to work on the Toilet doors and did a very bad job of fixing the aluminium doors for the bathrooms, after convincing me to remove 5 ready made doors already installed for the bathrooms, with the promise of giving me better durable aluminium toilet doors. With the exception of the door to the master bedroom which is not completed though, all other doors are with faults, in fact he told me two of the doors can never close except he breaks the already tiled walls for the frames, heaping blames on the tilers and bricklayers, for frames he erected by HIMSELF.

All these were happening, while I was away.. It was very obvious he was avoiding me.. So, last weekend when I was home, I requested to see him unfailingly and he came on Sunday, the 4th of November 2022. I showed him all around the house and expressed my dissatisfaction on the jobs he did for me and why he would leave his boy alone to do the job. Mosquitoes are coming into the house in droves from the side of the net frames, poor quality of window nets used and poor fixation too, the toilet doors are either not completely/badly fixed, the rain collectors is still less than 15% completion, and some joint areas are leaking etc... And of course, still owing me #80,000 refund from the money given to him for the cubicle.. He begged me to give him a week, but I gave him 3 days...

The following day, I didn't travel to my station as expected and waited to see if he will keep to his promise of coming to start the job as promised... Adedward didn't show up till I called him at night, it was then he told me he had a fall from the bike while on his way home and promised to do something about the work the following day...The following day, I called at night again, he said his back was paining him.. asked if he is on admission, he said No, but was taken to an hospital, he doesn't know the name of the hospital and that he did an X-RAY in a Lab , he also doesn't know the name either.. On Thursday, he sent a message that his boy will be coming with the guys to fix the water collector and that he will fix the bathroom doors by himself...

It's a week after his promises, and he has still not shown up..neither his boy nor the water collector guys..


I am sure there are people on this platform that are his friends or close associates, how would you feel if you contracted a job that shouldn't take more than 1 week and it is yet to be completed 127 days (4 months plus and counting) later... long after complete payment and still expecting a refund of #80,000 from the person you gave the job to..

I have exercised more than enough patience and gentleness, and will go through any legal means to retrieve my money from Adedward...

He can hide or run for as long as he wants.. but the law and the works of his hands will catch up with him!

I told him to his face that he, Adedward is not reliable, has no integrity and grossly unprofessional, and it remains so, until proven otherwise!

This is a painful read.

One stands out of all, which is the one with IR sensor.

You set it to work without human interference and to also act as a security light by coming on or off using its ssensors.

Watched a lot of videos, and after reading up on all the companies, decided on these guys because of their cleaning pedigree. They have been making this since the 1950s.

Will most likely update this weekend.

I did a test run last night, you need a longer cable than that which comes with the unit. They sell the pressure hose for N1,500 per yard, the set up of the connectors both the end that goes into the machine, and the trigger gun for N2,000 each or N4,000 in total. The one that comes with the unit is just 4m long.

Without doing this, you will need to keep moving the unit to wash the whole car.

You will also need an extension cable or reel unless you have an electrical outlet outdoors.

I will most likely import the K5 later since it overcomes the limitations of the K2 with features such as a longer factory pressure hose and a water-cooled engine. But if you want a pressure washer that can do just about anything not just for your car, then get the K7.

You will also need another hose that is not supplied to connect the unit to your water supply, the length will be determined by the distance between the wash area and your water supply
