Politics / N963.7m Subsidy Fraud: Oil Marketer, Jubril, Jailed 10 Years by Femsyn(m): 7:39pm On Mar 16, 2017 |
A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Thursday convicted an oil marketer, Rowaye Jubril, and his company, Brila Energy Limited, of a fuel subsidy scam of N963.7m. Justice Lateefa Okunnu, in a judgment on Thursday, sentenced Jubril to a jail term of 10 years for the fraud. She said the jail term would commence from Thursday. The judge also ordered the convicts to make restitution to the Federal Government by refunding the N963.7m, which they fraudulently obtained as subsidy on the false claim that they imported 13,500 metric tonnes of Premium Motor Spirit into the country. The convicts had fraudulently obtained the money under the Federal Government’s Petroleum Support Fund between October 2010 and May 2012. After uncovering the fraud, the EFCC dragged the oil marketer and his company to court on November 2012 and arraigned them on 13 counts bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretext, forgery and use of false documents. The anti-graft agency had told the judge that Jubril and his company acted contrary to Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act of 2006. They were also said to have contravened sections 467 and 468 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State 2003. In her judgment on Thursday, Justice Okunnu found the oil marketer and his company guilty as charged by the prosecution. The judge sentenced them to 10 years jail term on count one. She sentenced them to eight years jail imprisonment on each of count two to 13. She, however, held that the sentences would run concurrently. The conviction and sentencing of Jubril and his company came barely two months after Justice Okunnu convicted the Managing Director of Ontario Oil and Gas Limited, Mrs. Ada Ugo-Ngali, and sentenced her to a jail term of 10 years for a fuel subsidy fraud of N754m. Also convicted were the Chairman of Ontario Oil and Gas Limited, Walter Wagbatsoma, and the company itself. http://punchng.com/n963-7m-subsidy-fraud-oil-marketer-jubril-jailed-10-years/ 1 Like

Politics / Re: Corruption War : 15 SANS Reject Offer To Prosecute Judges by Femsyn(m): 9:14am On Dec 19, 2016 |
However, in the absence of Nigerian-based senior lawyers, the Federal Government was left with an option of looking elsewhere and this resulted to government hiring two former international prosecutors, Segun Jegede and Charles Adeogun-Philips. The duo has accepted the offer, though the terms of contract are not known. 1 Like |

Family / Re: Early marriage advantages {for Women And Men} Must Read by Femsyn(m): 8:17am On Dec 18, 2016 |
Like someone opined earlier on. Life isn't 1+1. When i left secondary school, i couldn't gain admission until 4years after. During this period, a couple of my friends had gained admission, infact, as at the time i was gaining admission, some were already rounding off their programmes. Fast forward to 13years later, i can say i have a better job with two master degrees and married. However, for these other guys, some graduated with 3rd class degree, some are still in school for their first degrees(MBBS) as we speak. Some had to dump their first degree to start afresh, some were laid off to start again. So, my point is, am i better off? are they better off? it doesn't matter. What gives me fulfillment is different from the next person. I would rather give birth to a "Zuriel Oduwole" in my forties, than have a drunk with no future ambition as a son in my early twenties. For those claiming children as an accomplishment of early marriage; Have you thought you could actually get married early and not be blessed with the fruit of the womb until much later? Even if the children come early and s/he is neither useful to you nor the community? What if (God forbid) s/he dies unexpectedly? What is important is, when God says its time, do not be found wanting... Early marriage, late marriage is a function of what works for your destiny and God's plan for you. 2 Likes |

That's why I hate this society! They coerce you into doing things just to conform. It takes quite a lot of energy to put off what they throw @ your face. They tell us when to marry, when to have children, in fact, I'm sure they wish they could tell us when to die too. If you had just gone with the flow and allow you and your future partner meet at the ordained time, you won't be stuck in this situation. What happened to being friends first before choking her with marriage promises? Live your life calmly, no pressure... |

When people support politicians, even after thievery, it's only sensible to assume that they were also beneficiaries of a corrupt government. Its plain and simple, because it's unfathomable to be rolling out drums for someone who is mortgaging your future and your children's on an empty stomach. People like Waripamo-Owei Dudafa has no reason not to forever worship Jonathan and his family, irrespective of the glaring irregularities. Never be surprised when they wail without recourse to sensible analysis. Its just that their brains have been exchanged for some notes. 1 Like |

Dapo: Has no business being in the final. Pere: Nice, average singer. Can't fault him much. He's doing his best. Winner: Got the potential. She's got the wow factor. Elizabeth: Don't understand the buzz about her. Followed PF from inception. Yes! She's got the talent and can sing, but sometimes, I suspect bias with her props. Although her sentimental popularity could win her PF9, her potential/capability may not sustain her beyond PF. Kitay: Only rival to Okiemute, howbeit, a distant one. Has what it takes to be the 1st runnerup, behind Okiemute. Okiemute: Heads and shoulders above every other contestant. In fact, its difficult to not want to believe she wasn't an already made artiste before PF. Voice control, stage performance, consistent, stage craft, gifted, exciting... She's a full-blown star, PF9 winner or not. 7 Likes |

Very typical of we humans. Celebrating success independent of its source. Her profile reads "actress" (actually she's a Yoruba actress, seen her a couple of times), but can conveniently buy a N5.7m car? If it's from a good source and pure hard work, i congratulate her and the mum; if not, well... i don't celebrate immorality or illegality. 1 Like 1 Share |

Anyone with little graphics expertise will produce that letterhead in less than 30mins. No scanned images. Zenith Bank's logo is the easiest there is, while others are just texts. My point is, if anyone wants to forge a letterhead of that magnitude, why won't he take his time to do it well? If Fayose wants to debunk the publication, he should find other means, not by pointing out meaningless "errors", which may have been done deliberately! Zenith Bank can design the publication anyhow they deem fit, after all, its not a corporate advertisement or annual report. As long as its duly signed and carries their logo (scanned or not). 2 Likes |

Politics / Firm To Build 75MW Solar Plant In Nigeria by Femsyn(m): 11:21am On Jul 07, 2016 |
Pan Africa Solar said it had signed the nation’s first Solar Power Purchase Agreement with the Federal Government with a plan to invest $146m in building a new power plant. The firm said the 75MW solar photovoltaic power project in Katsina State would sell power for a tariff of 11.5 US cents per kWh and would be inaugurated in 2017. According to a statement, the signing of the agreement was carried out in the office of the Nigerian Bulk Energy Trader, where the special guest of honour at the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, was represented by Mrs. Lolade Abiola of Sector Lead Solar and Access Advisory Power Team, Office of the Vice-President. The firm said once inaugurated, the 75MW solar project would be the largest of its type in sub- Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa) and would provide power for 1.1 million Nigerians. It said it would also generate employment for over 500 Nigerians during the 12-month construction period, adding that more than 40,000 new jobs would be created from the additional economic activity stimulated by the power plant. The Chief Executive Officer, Pan Africa Solar, Mr. Marcus Heal, was quoted to have said, “We are delighted that the Federal Ministry of Power is pushing ahead with its solar energy policy. This tariff has been achieved through harnessing lower construction and lower solar panel prices and the commitments of the project’s lender.” Also speaking, Justin Woodward of JCM Capital, a Canadian private equity firm, who are co-developers in the project, said “This is the start of a solar revolution in Nigeria.” Pan Africa Solar said it was developing a 1,000MW portfolio of solar projects in Nigeria and planning to bring more than $1bn of investment over the next five years. According to the statement, the sponsor group for the project includes Pan Africa Solar and JCM Capital and the African Finance Corporation. The FMO is the lead arranger of debt raised from the development finance institutions including DEG and Proparco. The project is also receiving support from the World Bank, Power Africa and MIGA, according to the statement. punchng.com/firm-build-75mw-solar-plant-nigeria/ 1 Like |

The country is sick because of non-revolutionary leaders. Now that it has dawned on them that they can no longer wait for handouts from the centre, the poor workers tend to pay for their cluelessness. Anyone can spend money you have no hand in sourcing for. States who have been able to boost their IGR through creative and innovative means have no issue paying salaries. The current economic state of Nigeria has exposed the lack of ideas embedded in the so-called governors. 2 Likes |

As long as someone is in jail for his atrocities, I don't care if suspected APC thieves are walking around freely. Whether its Amaechi or Omatseye, I don't care! We, the citizens are better off without these people. If PDP members are crying foul for selective prosecution, I'd advise they strive to win the next elections. When they do, they can as well prosecute thieving APC members too (if found guilty). Either way its a win-win for the common man. I care less for who is in jail, as long as he is a THIEF! 19 Likes 2 Shares |
