FamilyRe: Why Do Parents Send Their Kids To Boarding Schools? by FindOut(m): 1:21am On Jan 19, 2013
delors: FGC Ijanikin is like a private school fr the ajebutters...we r talking about FGCs in rainforest areas, public secondary schools in Ibadan, Jos, Kaduna, Ede, etc where life is really defined by 'hell'...where u cannot easily run home to mummy...where 'rejects' are sent to torture other students...where visiting is just once in a month for the lucky ones...where u must never tell ur dad dat a senior beat the hell out of u unless u wan die...where as a junior, u 'll never know the real names of all the seniors except nicknames like -
Lagos Boy, Hottest, Omiata,
Fada bunky, Niran United,
Kabuki, Long nose, Spere,
Stand well well, Ijamba (disaster),
denden Buller, Sangobiyi, Jazzinho,
Ogun-ajo, Papinto, etc
(Any Loyola College student of old in da house?)
HESCUS ME Senor, some people broke their teeth there o.lol. Loyola is the real school for ajebutters. Brilliant ajebutters.lol

ItsModella: So Federal Schools are really rugged. My cousin went to FGC Ijanikin, it was there he lost his two front teeth cos some senior pushed him and he fell face first on the concrete ground..like wtf? His parents refused to learn from that experience and sent his younger ones to FGC Okigwe. God knows if that happens to my child, all hell would break loose.
His parents knew that their son breaking his teeth was not enough reason to discard the boarding house system. the experience of growing up with kids from different backgrounds and exposure is something you will never ever be able to give your child at home. Don't worry, many parents have raised more hell than you can possibly raise. Guess what, most of those parents usually still brought their kids back the following term.lol. i went to Ijanikin, a school where you find kids of the rich, the very rich, the poor, the influential, the very influential e.t.c. so trust me when i say people raised hell.......in vain usually grin lol

If you have loads of money and you child is brilliant, no, very brilliant, then simply send him to LJC (Loyola Jesuit College) in Abuja. My kids dey go boarding house sha.lol

If u like carry ur broda to toronto... if pikin 1 spoil e go spoil... U no need anoda person to teach am...
Boarding Schools used to be an opportunity for children to be independent, well trained and disciplined, well, that was back in the 90's.

Let me not even talk of how disorganised, uncordinated and lost my kid brother was back at Ijanikin. Thank God he didn't pick those afformentioned vices and was pulled out on time. He's a Fantastic Engineering student now.
His problems stopped immediated he left.

Someone pls tell me I'm wrong and overreacting which I'm sure I'm not.
At first bolded, I spent 6 wonderful yet crazy, annoying yet memorable years at that school. Yes it was crazy at times especially when we were juniors but I'm glad i went through all of it. I learnt a lot of good things and some bad things there no doubt, but the kind of training i had received at home made me know which to follow and which to avoid. Would I send my kids to a boarding house? wonderful YES. Infact, i would have started singing it to my future wife before we get married at all.lol. Up FGCL! IJ4lyf cool

@second bolded, you are not entirely wrong in your submission, but yes, YOU ARE DEFINITELY OVERREACTING smiley

*clears throat*

PRESS RELEASE.

The Association of Constructive GEJ Critics on Nairaland (ACGCN) wishes to commend this move by President GEJ.
However, we would like Mr. President to follow up this visit with necessary actions that will ensure speedy restoration and renovation of the Police College without further delay. Nigerians will also wish to be furnished with details of the financial aspect especially, of the renovations to take place.

We would also like Mr. President to visit the 3rd mainland brige where work is still on-going with some sections of the bridge still not so good despite the ''extensive maintenance'' done last year which was said to gulp about a billion naira and which subjected motorists to severe hardship following the bridge's partial closure during the period. A drive through the oshodi-apapa expressway preferably at night won't be a bad idea as well.

We would also like Mr. President to visit the 4 refineries & also 'visit' his anti-corruption scorecard since he assumed office.

Lastly, all ACGCN wants is ACTION! ACTION!! ACTION!!! NOT propaganda or just mere talk. We wish to state that we will commend President GEJ if he does good, & we will continue to criticize him fiercely if he does otherwise, or doesnt do anything at all....as he is usually wont to do (Laptop crew, take note). By 2015, we shall weigh his successes against his failures, do same for his fellow contestants & then make our decision at the polls.

May God preserve us beyond 2015.

Signed...

naijacutee: I find it interesting that it is the blocked part that interests our people, and nothing else.
That's to show how most of us view issues in this country. From very serious matters like choosing a President to seemingly mundane ones like appraising a cover letter posted for us on NL, we usually focus on non-issues, argue and debate extensively on it, while ignoring what should really be our primary concern............to our detriment most times of course.

Are you surprised the country is not developed?

@Post, I wrote something fairly similiar in structure some months back to a solid ''silent'' MNC in Nigeria headquarter-ed close to my house, even added a few bits of the company history for them, I havn't received a reply yet o! Tho in fairness, no vacancy was actually advertised.

Advocate sam: Mr. Sienna, in respect of a Tokunbo VW Vento I want to buy, It has a very low mileage of 56045km and from the maintenance log book of d car, I dont think there is any roll back of d mileage cos the last service was 54005km. It has a new extra tyre from d factory, d exterior is clean and d interior is super clean. My mechanic said d engine is still very okay.

But d question bothering me now is why a 1996 car mileage is so low like dat and the car looks like brand new.
Pls am confused
Lol. you sure we not talkin abt the same car? Lol. I've seen a VW Passat GLS with exactly the sam features you described.lol. Mileage too is about 52k plus. Interior super clean. Exterior, same. New tyres all round.lol.

Boss Siena, still waiting for your review of the 1996 B4 VW Passat GLS sedan 2.0 litr engine, manual tranny, American/canadian spec. Reliability (especially electrical issues-wise), things to watch out for e.t.c.

PalmTree: In some cases, what you are suggesting might be succidal. Firstly, your employer might see that as a sign of arrogance or over confidence... and for 2 months? guy, you'll still be settling into the job! Secondly, what if the team is not being fair to you? hmmm, you'll lose your job before you know it embarassed
Lol. Note that I specified the type of company. Maybe i shoyld have also added ''well structured''....
You have a point. But,

1) 2 months I'll be settling in yes, but if they are being fair, allowance should be made for that in my assessment.

2) I believe Interviewers are looking for confidence. No? Of course I run the risk of sounding over confident, but if I'm quite sure of getting the job done, I see no reason why I shouldn't let them know. However, I'll be sure not to exude arrogance in my demeanour (quite easy for me anyway) & also try to show some humility when asked other questions smiley

3) If the assessment team (Note: Team, not one person) is not being fair to me, then I think I'm better off not working in that company smiley

*If its a good company with prospects & moderate pay at least*

Employ me for 2 months without pay, set up a team to monitor & evaluate my performance for that duration & if I don't score an 'A' at the end of the 2 months, I promise you my first two months salary at my next job as a way of compensating you for seemingly wasting your time hiring me.

*Then as a follow up sentence...*

But I'm quite confident of scoring an A sir.

PoliticsRe: LPWC Fixing Navy Town Road (pictures) by FindOut(m): 3:19pm On Jan 12, 2013
Someone will soon come here and say Nairaland has become ACN/Fashola propaganda tool, conveniently forgetting that some days ago, we had series of seemingly Anti-Fashola threads hitting front page. The LSPWC people do try sha. Sometimes, no, many times, they work (patch roads) in the middle of the night.

Fashola is really trying but of course, there's still room for improvement.

Tinubu however is still what he is: A THIEF.

How about those who are single? Can we post what attracted us to our present crush(or crushes.lol) ?
I dont mean 'admirer' /'admiree', i mean the real crush that'll make you want to bring down ur broom from the cupboard to sweep her off her feet grin

Oh well, whoever I end up with, two things will def attract me to her smiley :

1) Beauty
2) Intelligence
3) Not saying she must be overly religious, but she must have the fear of God.

Oh well, first things that'll attract : (1) & (2).

& since I've been attracted to girls not so endowed with (1) but well blessed with (2), I think Intelligence is likely the first thing that'll attract me to any lady. Even if your shape is better than Mercy Johnson's, if you are not intelligent to some extent, sorry, nothing smiley You'll simply add to the list of sexy girls in my life. Finish.lol

But seriously, she has to be (is) really pretty sha.lol.
Car TalkRe: The Audi And Volkswagen Issues Resolution Thread by FindOut(m): 2:44pm On Jan 12, 2013
Boss Siena, please can you comment on the reliability (& any other parameters) of the 'American spec' 1996 Volkswagen Passat GLS. 4 door sedan. Manual transmission. 2.0 litre i4 engine?

Someone's interested in purchasing one. Car looks very very very clean, mileage ridiculously low (way way less than 100,000 & if any tampering was done, it wasnt done in Nigeria. I'm verry sure of that coz its the same mileage that was recorded pre-shipping. Unfortunately, the carfax report had no records on mileage but indicated no rollback & no accidents), engine very sound, factory fitted aircon super, interior very clean. The trunk interior looks like that of a brand new car. Apparently, vehicle was previously used in canada.

Now, i've read some not so nice reviews on Edmunds.com but I would really appreciate ur own input as an expert. I believe that engine is also part of those offered on the Golf MKIII. Is the Passat generally as reliable as the Golf (especially as regards electrical issues, transmission, engine parts, e.t.c.) ? Thanks.

@Afolabs, you raised some points which can well be considered valid. But note that the PRESIDENT is an administrator. I do not think he has to have a PhD in economics or aviation or agriculture before effectively running the country. Yes, i agree he must have a fairly good working knowledge of all sectors & have ways to improve them. But if its plans you want on paper, thats not a problem. Many professors can sit together in a room & come up with a 100 page document on how to improve the economy & then hand the document over to any President. But will the president be decisive enough to take these steps? That will be dependent on the CHARACTER and QUALITY of such President.

If he can appoint COMPETENT & DISCIPLINED people into key & sensitive (all anyway) posts, ensure & actually practice EFFECTIVE FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE, not bend over unnecessarily to the financial powers out to milk other counries, have ZERO TOLERANCE for sorruption both on paper and IN PRACTICE, then I believe we'll be making tremendous progress.
PoliticsRe: Madueke, NNPC Borrow $2 Billion To Pay Fuel Debt by FindOut(m): 3:06pm On Jan 08, 2013
I haven't read all of GenBuhari's stories on how Buhari governed Nigeria in 84/85. But today, i read the one about 'Buharinomics'. Basically, it was all about how Buhari fiercely resisted borrowing from the IMF despite the fact that the govt needed the money. Instead, they came up with alternatives. Effective ones too. That was a government that truly cared about its people & knew the country's worth & refused to be drawn into massive debt taking. That was a focused government that was looking for money for true development & not for looting.

Now, an insincere person & some other bigoted Nigerians will compare the head of that government (a military man who could have easily done whatever he liked then without caring about the people for that matter) with a clueless serial looter like GEJ. What an INSULT!

Of course, IBB came after, took IMF loan & more, & the country hasn't recovered from it decades later.

These present leaders do not care about the future of Nigeria, & thats why they keep borrowing without 'giving a damn' & continue looting for themselves and their generations yet unborn without 'giving a damn'. Sanusi cried out recently (about the time this loan deal was struck) that the govt should reduce its loan taking. Obviously, he knew then what Reuters is just informing us now.

I will support Buhari for president if he runs in 2015 because among other reasons, it is obvious that the 'younger generation' (GEJ, Diezani, Bankole) have failed us. Materialism has taken over. Most of us the younger/younger younger generation are already besotted with the idea of ''go there and chop your own'' just because of the attitude of the current ruling class!!

So which way Nigeria? We need a re-orientation. Change must start from the leadership.

BUHARI FOR 2015! (if he decides to run) smiley

Were you driving a Corolla or Civic before buying the Pilot? Lol. I've heard lots of peeps complaining about the poor fuel economy of that ride (one of the reasons why naija-used ones are sold cheaply) yet some people will scream honda is 'fuel efficient' without considering engine size. Its a 3.5 V6 engine, 4WD auto trans ride. Sir, you will spend on fuel.lol.

Reminds me of a neighbour who's been driving a Honda Accord (babyboy) V6 for almost a decade. Early last year, he bought a Highlander V6 which he still drives. In between both cars, he had used diff cars most of which are V6 engine powered. Last month, he bought a Corolla 2005. Few days after he began driving the corolla, he went to see his mechanic to express his suspicions about his fuel gauge not working, so would the mechanic check it out for him? What was his reason? He filled his tank & had been driving the car for about 3 days & the fuel gauge had moved just a tiny little bit. Of course, the gauge was perfectly fine. He just couldnt believe a car could have such low comsuption figures having gotten used to fueling his v6 vehicles for so long.

So you'll get used to it. God will provide.lol. Howver, as said above, compare your consumption figures with manufacturer's figures to know if it is actually consuming higher than it should.
