This issue I'm about to lay down has been a burden to me. I'm in a relationship with a 16 year old girl. She got admission to study Medicine in the university recently. I love her so much. Can we by any chance get married? Considering the age difference and social status?

I'm gainfully employed and thinking of settling down.

If you can allow your 16 year old sister to be in a relationship with a 30 year old man, & then let him marry her, you can go ahead.

No offence, but u sound like all these shameless guys who have slept with soo many young girls & have this belief that there's no virgin(since many have bn disvirgined thru them) & no good girl above 17, hence the decision to marry a 16 year old.

If you are really interested in funding, I think you should target August (Fall). Schools financial year begin in August and this is when money for funding is budgeted for. Larger part of that money is used up at this period, which makes getting funds in spring and summer a bit difficult (not impossible)so due to your CGPA ie your are not that strong (blv me, your transcript is like d most important doc considered), I suggest you consider fall or try for spring, if you don't get funds, differ till Fall and re-apply for funds.
Answers to the other questions would be on the schools website, you would see stuff like toefl is waived for students from countries where english is there official language, so you can free toefl if that's the case. Before applying for GA, RA etc, check for Profs that share your research interest, mail them, tell them about your interest (some won't reply) but the koko is write your SOP and GA essay if required like you are directing it to them, much focus on your research area and what you have done to guarantee ur success in it.

hmm... Thank you so much. You are right, most schools grant funding (& even admission) only for Fall. I intend to still try though & like you said, if there's no funding & the fees are more than my folks can afford, then I'll defer till fall, apply to even more schools & hopefully, i'll get the best.

I'll be concluding NYSC in October, and though I have a flair for enterpreneurship, the Nigerian job market situation is VERY depressing. & man pikin dey grow older each day. So, that's why i've decided to still try for January & see what comes out of it.

phy: - January is very realistic provided you can meet up with your requirements timely.
- I don't know anything about the two schools, however, usnews ranking and the schools' websites could give you info that can guide your decision. For GA and RA stuff you may start checking the school websites and you can start making your inquiries from your dept ASAP. Note that GA and RA positions aren't automatic and your field is kind of competitive for such positions.
- TOEFL is not compulsory especially for graduate student. If they require it, write a strong letter to the requesting for a waiver, if they dont waive it, then you have to write it. For GRE, you may not have a choice on that.
- Do your research to find schools or programs that meet your need.

So many people have lots of issues they grapple with, & not everyone has a person to confide in, so many come to places like this & share their stories under the protection of anonymity. Yeah, some people come here and lie, but some dont. In this case, as seen from OP's topic history, posts, & general conduct on here, i do not think he's lying.

Considering the remote(in my view) possibility that he is, know that there are many people who have similiar issues like this at home. Rich background (sometimes spoilt) wife, humble background (but now successful) husband facing child raising issues.


& having a child abroad nowadays in my view isnt such a big deal especially if the wife was born there & is a citizen (in the case of US). With the health care system we have in Nigeria, i wuldnt blame anyone who decides to save up for his wife to have their baby at a decent hospital abroad. & remember that OP has made it clear here that his wife has money.

i really hate to sound like a strict parent but i believe one should not train his kids with so much affluence...i took out time to think last night and am already getting scared for my boy....he is the first grandchild of my in-laws and i shudder at the level of love and affection they will shower on my boy...do not get me wrong..i love him alot..i really do..but i believe that depriving him of some luxuries in life will help shape him into a better man...a man that will believe in hardwork and patience...i do not want to raise a mummy's boy..nah..i want to raise a man in every definition of it,

what will a child be doing with a 300dollar shoe? or a hoodie of 80dollars? i just tire..during my days in UBA,contract staff earn btwn35-45k a month...and these guys work their arse off..and still manage to save some money..its only few people that will understand my worry..its not about the money..its about the child...i have seen children from rich homes that could not stand on their own once daddy's money finishes...i remember the lecture tony elumelu gave us during our induction in UBA..he talked about his childhood and how it contributed in shaping him into the man that he is now.

& for those saying that the reason the OP is complaining is because he's from a humble(or poor) background while the wife is from an affluent home, it might interest some of you to know that there are some kids of very rich men & women in this country who will NEVER spend money in the manner OP's wife has done. based on a friend's experience, 3.5L V6 Altima CONSUMES fuel. 500 naira is approx 5 litres. I seriously doubt u can do Iyana-ipaja - VI with that. Even with the regular 2.5L I4, i still doubt. i may be wrong tho.
