There are lots of Yorubas that do not like APC and the kind of politics in Lagos, especially the upwardly mobile class Yorubas. A lot of them are pushing for Peter Obi because of his perceived integrity and ability to manage the economy. I can tell you that most Yorubas are progressive and will always follow the path of integrity and progressive ideas more than primordial sentiments, tribes and religion.

I knew he was not going anywhere. Even the vice he was pressing to get has been taken away from him. It is not that he is not good, but the Nigerian politics is not suited for his kind. He is not just withdrawing from the presidential primaries, he is also withdrawing from the party, indicating that he was pained beyond marrow by the action of his party. The party has narrowed down to Atiku and Wike, the two men with the necessary war chest. This is the opportunity for APC to woo the SE. The region must be bitter because of the action of the PDP.

They do not know that one. Most of them will be here shouting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Access Bank for example had to close down some of their branches in the SE. When they acquired Diamond bank, they allowed both banks branches to be operating at the same time, even when they are on the same street. I have seen scenarios of this in Lagos, where you have the old access bank branch and the defunct Diamond branch, with their iconic Diamond logo operating on the same street.

However, Access have now chosen to close down some of the duplicating branches in the East. I am sure the insecurity and uncertainty is fueling that decision. This is one of the most stupid thing to do. Praising tax payers for their obligation to the country. Well, in a country where people and entities pays zero to nothing as tax, what do you expect. Even my own effective tax rate may be higher than all these mentioned corporations. But since they are companies with big war chest, they are recognized.

One of the biggest hindrances to tax compliance in Nigeria is corruption and trust. Citizens do not see their government as an accountable government. When you see how the way elected and appointed leaders lives their lives and loot the country, the disincentive to pay tax diminishes. People will not want to pay taxes when they know that the leaders are going to loot the money.

It is just a matter of time. It is not about the government. It is about the people. Their ways of life and value system. Their mentality of public property. The mentality and perception of government's property is the worst in Nigeria.

His politics of compromise and no bitterness catapulted him to the presidency of Nigeria in 1963 when Nigeria became a republic, dishing her majesty, the queen, as the official head of state of Nigeria then. It was his association with NPC that gave rise to the first republic government. If he had not done that, he wouldn't have smelt power. His politics of association saw him won most seats in the Western House parliamentary election and was on the verge of becoming the first premier of the western region. Building bridges and alliance ensures success in politics.

In 1979, he compromised again and went into alliance. His party produced the speaker of the House of Representative and some cabinet ministers. Compromise, handshake, association and negotiation ensures a place for you. In terms of personality, I would give it to Peter Obi and would love to have him as my president. However, the reality does not favor him.

I graduated with a first class in engineering. Today, I am a qualified Chartered Accountant, having worked in an investment bank for more than 13 years before setting up my own independent consultancy in Finance and Management Consulting. Prospect of growth abound in finance related field than engineering. Most of my class mate engineers are languishing in local workshops and factories with nothing to show. Some moved on to pursue personal businesses. They were few that really broke into the so called oil and gas and other juicy engineering position. The transferable skills that my engineering background gave me is quantitative skills and strong aptitude for numbers.

However, if you intend to move abroad, retain the engineering and pursue it to the fullest. Those with such qualifications always fits into the developed world's environment. Lastly, please leave women and face you hustle. Do not allow any distraction to get into your way.

One of our family doctors here in Nigeria, a pediatrics surgeon, graduated at the age of 33. He clocked 45 year this year and was one of the successful doctors taken by the Saudis when they came to Nigeria early this year to recruit doctors and health workers. In medicine, age does not really matter. The lady my wife stayed with when she went to US to give birth was still working as a nurse at the age of 35 because she has Bachelors degree in nursing and was looking to go to medical school to qualify as a doctor. She recently passed out from the medical school, qualifying as a full doctor at the age of 43.
