Good evening nairaland family, pls study leave with pay in a federal institution, does it have any negative implication before CIC later in life when you want to apply for permanent residency.

Note: you are fully sponsoring yourself.

Frankrobbin, Justmellow, everyone pls give me an answer to this challenge.
The direct answer is NO it doesn't adversely have a negative impact on your application. Almost every applicant's do mention in their various applications that they would be returning home after studies. In the long run, they fail to keep to the written words on the paper but decide to apply for PR after completion of their program.

Hello all.

Please is rice, spaghetti, noodles, olive oil, palm oil and sachet tomato paste (in small quantity) allowed in Canadian border?

Thank you.
I don't think palm oil in particular is allowed at the point of entry. Rice and Spaghetti are over there in Canada and you can easily purchase them once you land, I don't see the need of bringing them into Canada. You can travel with the rest of the food stuffs.

Silent thread readers association!

I hail o, greetings everyone and to all the people holding it down, you're highly appreciated.

With all the refusals recorded is anyone seriously thinking of an alternative country or still willing to risk it for Canada?
I have a BSC from the UK( Dec 2019), I am considering a Masters in Public Health from Canada.
I am 26years and newly married.
I have a good travel history and no visa refusal recorded however with the ongoing skoi skoi at the Canadian embassy, I am contemplating if I should go ahead or not.

I will appreciate any advice.

I pray God's grace make our dreams reality
You've a good profile to secure a study visa to Canada given that your parents will be the one sponsoring your education and you're a fresh graduate coupled with the fact that you've attained a good travel history which would also count as a positive factor in the visa officer's assessment of having travelled and returned home. Thus, you shouldn't because of the fear of high visa rejection then decide not to pursue your educational goal of studying in Canada. More importantly, you should always take into account that no two applications are the same. Every applicant's cases are unique and as such treated differently based on the visa officer's perspective... I would strongly recommend you give Canada a better shot (i.e an airtight application) and while doing so, also explore other countries like Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland etc.. At the end, you will be using one stone to kill two birds. Whichever that turns out in your favour, then becomes your study destination.

In conclusion, I will advice you kick start the plans of furthering your education as soon as possible as Master's in Public Health program (MPH) is a very competitive one in Canada with limited spaces and the admission deadline is around the corner.

I recently got my passport stamped but the school resumes September 2020, is it possible to go to Canada around February and while away time.
Don't take such risk! 7 months to school resumption is too much. You might be turned down at the point of entry by the immigration and your visa cancelled. There is no need to rush since you already have the visa handy. At this point, you should be thinking of acquiring more skills that will be beneficial to you in Canada and also spend ample time with your beloved family members whom you won't be seeing anytime soon after your departure to Canada.

Your CGPA (3.20) won't fly for a master's program in Canada.. Your best bet is to apply for a post graduate diploma program in Biotechnology at Centennial College.

Finally, thanks so much Mr frank ..
i have a cgpa 3.78 in biochemistry from Lagos state university.
Please is msc in biotech also selling here in Nigeria?
WHAT ABOUT PUBLIC HEALTH.. TRYING TO RELATE TO WHAT WILL SELL IN NIGERIA TOO
and can i still be preparing for ielts as well as applying for the masters programme.
i would you to suggest a sure ielts center i can enroll in
then first step for msc application in those two schools. THANKS
Biotechnology is a an exciting and lucrative field in Nigeria and in the world at large. You've a good CGPA (3.78), and thus i would strongly suggest you go for a master's program to show career progression/advancement... Take a minute to look at Master's of Public Health at Saskatchewan and University of Western Ontario, it's also a good one too and the program deadline is fast approaching in January 2020.

I don't know any IELTS Center. During the time I sat for the exam, I used some useful online tutorials and materials from... www.ieltsadvantage.com, www.ieltsbuddy.com, www.ieltsliz.com etc.. I would also recommend that you download the CAMBRIDGE IELTS GENERAL BOOK 11-14, and Audios (listening part) - This text book looks like the actual exam questions.

You might want to also check this PREPARE FOR IELTS THREAD, for more information that would be of great benefit while preparing for your upcoming test.

Did you receive a medical request or undergo an upfront medical exam?... Receiving a biometrics validity letter (BVL) prior to a medical request is a sign that a negative decision has already been reached on your application. You should expect further correspondence shortly from IRCC.

It's been 3 weeks I submitted my passport as requested by IRCC. Submitted through vfs Abuja and have gotten just 2 updates so far with the last mail (19th Nov) stating that tracking number xxxxxxxxx is under process at IRCC office. Program starts exactly 4 weeks today. Flight tickets are busy skyrocketing without apologies and IRCC doesn't give a hoot. This 2 months hold had better not been for me....Ain't gonna be funny.

Early application would save you the tension that I'm having right now. It's not healthy for anyone, trust me. I know the Visa will eventually come but the question is "when" as time is of the essence in my case. As I dey complain say Vancouver rent high, flight own dey one corner dey look me.

A word of prayer for me, fam. One luv!
I see no problem here and for this reason you shouldn't panic. The issue of late passport transmission happens on several occasions of which I'm an eye witness. I would advise you proactively raise a CSE to the Kenya, Nairobi Immigration office.

Below is a sample mail written by me that can expedite the process.

LATE PASSPORT TRANSMISSION AFTER VISA APPROVAL.

Respected Sir/Ma,

I hope this mail meets you well. My name is ABCD EFGH, I am contacting you with regards to my Student Visa application submitted on DD/MM/YYYY. I got an approval and a passport request on DD/MM/YYYY.

After the submission of my passport at VAC on the DD/MM/YYYY, I received an automated system response that my passport has been received and transmitted to the responsible Canada Visa office.

Since the aforementioned date, I haven't gotten any progress on my passport and that troubles me a lot as my course intake is drawing near, and my flight has already been booked for December 27th, 2019.

Kindly assist me with this issue and expedite the transmission of my passport. I do not want to miss classes and the orientation week as that would make it difficult for me to adjust later, and also putting into account the difficulty of settling down in a new country as an international student.

I look forward to your immediate and positive response.

High Regards,

please i need a reply to my last comment... ill like to get a PR in canada, how do i start the process...
is there a way to scale through without IELTS?

IS it possible i do pnp without ielts/
or study nursing without using ielts for the processing!
i am currently a public servant and an entrepreneur ( hair and makeup).
what options do i have .. please kindly put me through or should i use an agent?
To be eligible for a permanent residency of Canada via the express entry route, you have to sit for the IELTS test and score 8777 i.e;
Listening - 8
Writing - 7
Speaking - 7
Reading - 7
Total = 8.0 band

You also require IELTS for PNP. However, while seeking for an admission to study Nursing program in Canada, you don't need to undertake any English proficiency test. If you have a good CGPA during your undegraduate studies in biochemistry, it's advisable and safe you apply for MSc in biotechnology at Brock University, or University of Windsor....

Thank you so much for doing justice to this Mr Frank. Well my first sponsor was my brother,
he lives in Canada and already has a PR. Infact he lives in the same province where my school is and just miles away from my campus. But I got refused based on purpose of visit, asset, family and home tie before I got this scholarship from my company. I had my industrial training with the company and they are willing to retain me and that was why I started work with them immediately after my NYSC. They were willing to go into marine resources management and that why they sponsoring me for this program and there's already an agreement that i will come back after my studies to work for them and if I don't then I will have to refund base in the etics of the company . All these was written in my sop and the agreement was submitted with a letter headed paper of the company. I think these address the home tie issue which was one of my refusal reason in my first application.
And it was stated that it's a full funding by the company that's why I didn't bother to submit my own statement of account or had the company transfer some money into my account so I think that was why they refused me only base on financial ground.

Now are you advising me not to use the company as my sponsor anymore or I rather use my brother againhuh Thanks
Boss, forget the company sponsorship and the so called scholarship you got from them because it won't scale through.... That's the bitter truth!. You claim to have a scholarship from a company in Nigeria, why didn't they transfer the funds for your first academic year to your account to further buttress funds accessibility by you (the principal Applicant)?. It might interest you to know that since my existence on this thread, I have seen more than 10 applicants that have used this company sponsorship/scholarship story from employer for their visa applications and they were all refused based on same ground as yours. From the wisdom of my experiences regarding this process, it's advisable you stick with your brother that is a PR holder in Canada, because your brother's sponsorship is more genuine and reasonable to the visa officer. What you seem not to understand is that, using a sibling in Canada doesn't adversely effect your study visa application provided you're able to show adequate economic and professional ties to Nigeria that far outweighs the incentives in Canada which would motivate your return home after studies. With that being said, since your brother resides in the same province where your school/campus is, I would suggest your brother should include a cover letter addressed to the Canadian consulate in Nigeria, stating that he will be responsible for your tuition and living expenses in Canada, and while in Canada you will be staying at his place/house, so accomodation and feeding is covered. He should also provide details about his accomodation, how many rooms apartment and address where this building is located in Canada.

Please refer to this link for further explanations pertaining to the REFUSAL GROUNDS that were stated on your previous visa refusal.

This has to be done in a continuous manner right ?

And would 8month + 6month get them 3years? Isn’t that just 2years+ programs?

Nice and selfless work you’re doing here bro
Yes it has to be done simultaneously immediately after the completion of the first program. The two programs will qualify the applicant for approximately 2 years PGWP.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Frankrobbn1:
canadaman18:
An 8month PGWP is typically not a lot of time if considering PR subsequently .

The way things are looking with EE, one needs 460+ to be invited.

Make sure you simulate your score but with no canadian work experience (because you need minimum 1 year to count anything and 8months work permit is really really tight, you essentially have to start working the day after your results are published but even then you’ll probably still be a couple weeks off the one year mark when your work permit expires)
In a nutshell, the applicant should enrol for an additional 6 months program after the previous one (8- months) and apply for study permit extension within Canada. This will qualify the applicant the chance to be granted 2 years PGWP.

We won't know until people try it and are successful with it. The major problem is our financial system is riddled with fraud and visa officers believe we lack credibility
That's where the major problem lies, the visa officers don't even believe our bank statements because they know that some applicants go as far as borrowing funds from friends/relatives for the purpose of securing visa talk less of paystubs from a company in Nigeria which is mere designed paper from the company's account officer.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Frankrobbn1:
eightyeight:
My thoughts exactly. Proof of funds goes beyond showing money. If he and his parents were able to prove that they earn well and can save up funds for his second semester, then i do not see any reason why they won't give him.

I had a cousin who used his sister abroad as
sponsor. Her bank balance was 350 usd. But she had an annual income of over 100k usd and went further to show her credit rating was good and she was in good financial standing with her bank.
We all know about this and I have seen lots of applicants on other Visa forums from top rated countries getting visas to Canada with just bank letter showing available balance.

However does this work for Nigerian applicants whose sponsors are resident here in Nigeria? That's the question, since you said proof of funds goes beyond showing money.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Frankrobbn1:
YesLadyN:
Hello all,

Allow me to weigh in. I’m not an expert nor applicant here anyway.

I think the payslips of the parents show they can afford to pay the 2nd semester fees when the time comes. The 1m parents’ bank account balance is just an additional assurance...not a key deciding factor.

Furthermore, the 3.2M in his own account covers living expenses for the 8month period. So it’s not surprising he got approval. He’s literally good to go.

But I’m interested in knowing what his next step is after the program. Will it qualify one for a work permit...or a PR perhaps?
As per the bolded, such application with payslips to show financial stability and income can easily scale through for applicants applying for Canadian visa from top rated countries like Brazil, Ireland, France, Germany, etc. not a third world country like Nigeria, when the visa officers are fully aware that most Nigerian applicants seeking for study permit are looking for the slightest opportunity to leave the country without any future intention of returning back after studies given her current socio-economic condition... The visa officer's are also informed that some Nigerians don't go to school when they arrive Canada. So, It's very surprising to see he got approval with just 1M statement of account without funding from the school and also putting into consideration IRCC requirement as per financial sufficiency for the first academic year of study in Canada. Whereas, applicants from wealthy/average backgrounds here whose financial resources meet this requirement with fat bank statements were refused of their visas.

Now, to your last question, once he is done and dusted with his program in Canada he is qualified for a post graduate work permit (PGWP) for the length of his program before being able to file for a permanent residency application within Canada.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Frankrobbn1:
Ola2471:
8 months. No it doesn’t but I guess the payslips show I’ll have enough to. And no problem about the questions
Payslips slip in Nigeria or abroad?.... I ask these questions because the requirements as per IRCC official website demands that applicants must show proof of funds for the first year of study and if program is more than a year, they must show the ability to cover for the subsequent years of study without working and not become a burden to the Canadian government. Hence why I'm surprised you got approval with just a 1M closing balance. Anyways, congratulations to you.

Yes I did... their letter just stated the estimated board fees of 11,000 CAD had been transferred to my account (3.2m)
What's the duration of your program? Since you only paid for your first term tuition fees, does the remaining 1M in your sponsor's account cover for the second term fees?

My sincere apologies for asking you these questions. I am free and always open to learn at any given point in my life. Can you be kind to avail me answers to my queries.

SOP/LOE have never in history been a requirement for study visa application. Applicant's that include one in their various applications do so probably because he/she has vital information which needs to be clarified to the visa officer and thus facilitate their visa approval.

Hi I’m a newbie been a silent reader since I submitted in August . I decided to post to encourage everyone from the wave of refusals

I didn’t write SOP/LOE

Docs submitted were:
* Letter of Acceptance and fee statement
* Receipt of 1st semester fees as well as telex copy (paid with zenith bank)
* Proof of funds: letter of sponsorship stating that the amount estimated by the school as living costs has been transferred to my account , my bank statement 3.2m (11CAD), parents bank statement not up to 1m, parents payslips and my employment letter .
* Then all the required forms

Course applied for is Post graduate Certificate at Seneca College.

All in all it was Gods favor cos when I read about all the SOPs that people submitted and saw closing balances I had anxiety. My application itself took 6 weeks and 4 days
Congrats! Please can you confirm this information again - Did you just say you submitted 1M statement of account for your sponsor (parent) and got approval? This sounds weird to me!

Please I need your advise on how to apply for study permit. I got my acceptance letter today from college of North Atlantic (Geographic information Specialist post diploma) for one year program. After paying for my tuition fees due for Feb 13 2019 what documents do I submit ?.
It's better you silence the banking experience and focus on getting letters that would show you're still in the same geo-information discipline/field. To me and in the sight of the visa officer, this shows a logical procession between your passion, your previous studies, your current employment and intended program.

Hello good morning I was refused previously based on
1) travel history
2) home ties
3) current employment situation....

Ways I want to tackle them
2) home ties my dad wants to do a deed of gift of our two houses estimated to 70 million current market price backdated to 2017 in my name
Secondly a treasury bill account of about 15 million has been opened in my name asides the tuition fee and living expenses
My sis trad wedding is this Dec so a group family photo will be added
3) for current employment situation I started working with my brother with a salary of 180k since August ending..... He is the ceo while I am one of the directors
I don't know if this is enough
Good to know you're investing your time and effort in making sure your next application would be a success. As a result, the backdated deed of gift, investment in the bank in your name, being a director in your brother's company are good economic ties to your home country and should considerably prove to the visa officer that you've huge commitments back home.

Current employment situation, you need to include documents that would show you're gainfully employed in your current country of residence. These documents includes - 1-)Employment letter,
2-) Promotion letters,
3-) Salary increment letters (if any),
4-) Pay stubs for the last 4-6 months,
5-) Salary statements (if any),
6-) A detailed reference letter from your employer and
7-) Work ID etc.

Bear in mind that is not all about including these documents in your next application because the visa officer's aren't custodians of knowledge. Thus, it's mandatory that you explain convincingly in a succinct way as possible (SOP/LOE) how each of these properties are of upmost importance to you and how they are connected to motivate your return home, including your family members that are resident in Nigeria.

Hi Mr Frank
Kindly treat as urgent!!!!

I was refused last week based on financial grounds only.....and was advices to re apply if I can show more finance for tuition..travel tickets and upkeep..can I apply immediately?... I am for winter Jan 2020 session...
Please don't take such uncalculated risk because the outcome won't be advantageous to you, considering that winter is barely 4 weeks from now. My candid advice is that you defer your admission to Spring/Fall 2020, gather additional information/documents to show you've more than sufficient financial resources to cover for your tuition, transportation and living expenses in Canada. By so doing, also cross all T's and dot all i's by making sure your purpose of visit and home ties to your country of citizenship are adequately well-substantiated even though it wasn't listed among the generic reasons for your visa refusal.

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Frankrobbn1:

Good morning guys
I got my second refusal last week. I applied on the 29th of October

Thank you for your interest in studying in Canada. After careful review of your study permit
application and supporting documentation, I have determined that your application does not meet
the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and Immigration and
Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR). I am refusing your application on the following grounds:
• Pursuant to paragraph 220(a) of the IRPA, I am not satisfied that you have sufficient and
available financial resources, without working in Canada, to pay the tuition fees for the course or
program of studies that you intend to pursue.
• Pursuant to paragraph 220(b) of the IRPA, I am not satisfied that you have sufficient and
available financial resources, without working in Canada, to maintain yourself and any family
members who are accompanying you during your proposed period of study.
• Pursuant to paragraph 220(c) of the IRPA, I am not satisfied that you have sufficient and
available financial resources, without working in Canada, to pay the cost of transporting yourself
and any family members who are accompanying you to and from Canada.

I was sponsored by my company and I submitted a SOA of almost 100M but I didn't submit my own statement of Account. Could this be the reason why I got refused or it's just that they still as foolish as they are lol. Even when I don't have any family member accompanying me ☺
I wish others waiting for their SP good luck. Keep hopes high and don't give up
I regret to hear your study visa was rejected. The red flag I can spot out from your application is the fact that you used a company statement of account (SOA) as the primary proof of funds for your study visa application. It's crucial to note that the Visa officer's at the Canadian embassy doesn't regard company sponsorship for a candidate (employee) seeking for career advancement in Canada and no matter the amount in the company's account, the applicant's application will still be turned down on the basis of financial insufficiency. Because of this, there are several questions which accompanies the company sponsorship like -

1-) How long have you been working for this establishment?
2-) Why do the company want to spend so much on an employee that is not sure will return back to the company after authorized period of stay in Canada given the current socio-economic situation of Nigeria?
3-) What impact have you made so far in the company that made you the right fit for this sponsorship amidst other employees?
4-) What does the company stands to gain as a result of this sponsorship?
5-) What is your annual renumeration in this establishment and what's the current position you're holding in the company?
6-) Did the board of directors signed a written agreement that they are aware and fully in support of this sponsorship and thus wouldn't pose to be a hindrance to funds accessibility and availability to you during the course of your study in Canada?

Were you able to answer the aforementioned questions accurately and persuasively in your last application? Now, you can see the reasons as to why your application was refused.

In a nutshell, I would advise you file for a reapplication next year using a close family member (father, mother, brother, sister, step-father, Step-brother/Sister etc) as your prime sponsorship and include relevant documents to show your current situation merit the issuance of a study permit.

It will end in praises.
