AfahaAbia:While your post is true and good, it does not mean new jobs are created. Rather, companies are simply re-filling those positions with newer folks, not creating new positions. The number of graduate trainee positions/adverts has plunged compared to 2010 - 2014. A good way of assessing the Nigerian economy is when dual citizens move en mass to Nigeria, as it happened during 2000 - 2010/2012. For dual citizens to move to Nigeria, it means the economy is doing well, and Obasanjo's years were Nigeria's golden years in terms of the economy. |
franchasofficia:That cannot be true, please. If you say there are more people in the south, that is accurate, as Nigeria is the only place in the world where more people exist in arid areas than coastal regions. But that figure as the entire population? That is not true, sir. The accurate population is unknown because the figure was distorted even before independence. |
Blitzking:To save such, one should earn at least 5K dollars after tax. To earn such, one must be highly skilled and exclude debt from school. The reality is that even the bonafide citizens aren't able to save such. Most importantly, the concept of saving differs from Nigeria. Most pay forward rather than save. They insure themselves by paying car insurance, health insurance and utilise debt to advance their lives, then invest the rest. Saving money just like that is not financially sensible as inflation will eat it up. What you imply is that Nigerians abroad should save $12K annually. After saving that amount, then what next? Why save such when there are many investment schemes and mortgages to key into? At a point in life, your money should work for you, rather you working for the money. Then, if saving such is hard in the abroad, how many Nigerians can save N1 million per month or even N500K after working? So, you see, it is not a bright way to assess finances and expenses. |
iLoveYouToo:Compared to the entire population of Nigeria nko? You cannot use people visiting those places to categorise Nigerians as rich. If so, then international brands should be trooping in en mass. |
Prechgold1180:Were you a permanent staff who got in via the standard graduate recruitment scheme of the bank? |
SmartyPants:I once did an analysis during the incompetent Buhari's first tenure that if Northern Nigeria is removed, Southern Nigeria can be classified as a middle-income country and even richer than South Africa considering the bulk of the wealth is held by blacks in Nigeria as opposed to whites in South Africa. |
Dikastan:Easy to get a visa. Try applying for American visa, let's see how far. |
Swiftgrp:No one cares when you registered, so that line is pointless. You could have even formed Nairaland, but it has no basis to this discussion. Many of the young Ibo Peter Obi LP supporters used to be strong members of the PDP and they were the ones who launched vicious attacks online attacks for PDP against ACN/APC and other political parties even before the 2011 that you quoted on NL. In 2011 right up to the 2014 election cycles, these political and ethnic hate attacks escalated into the vicious back-and-forth being witnessed today. Even after the Ijaws of the Niger Delta had moved on after the 2015 elections, a lot of mainly young Ibos still carried hatred for the then President Buhari of Nigeria under APC control due to the Ipob vicious indoctrination and propagandaBuhari was incompetent, so Igbos did not vote for him. But there was calumny against them because they did not vote for an incompetent feudalist. Also, Buhari used the military to terrorise the south east, so why should the inhabitants love him? They have every right to hate him. Ijaws are minorities, so they can let go, especially as they have a weak presence on the Internet compared to Igbos who were targeted unjustly for their support for Jonathan. I CLEARLY stated in my post that you quoted that for over 20 years (meaning right from the 1970s to the early 2000s till now) a group of Ibos have always ENGAGED in criminal defamation, hostility and propaganda towards Yorubas, Hausas, Edos, Ijaws, Ikweres, Middle Belt folks and other Nigerians over the events of the exactly 2 years 6 months [30 months] Nigerian Civil War which lasted from July 1967 -January 1970. You are here bringing up links to Nairaland posts that were made in the year 2011 when infact these online hate speeches have existed long before then from the 1990s to the early 2000s and these facts would NULLIFY most of the weblinks you posted. What evidence? There was no evidence whatsoever. BTW, if Igbos displayed those behaviours towards other ethnic groups, how come we hear of Fulani herdsmen killing farmers in Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Adamawa etc.? How come the indigenes are not fighting with Igbos? How come Igbos are not having francas with the indigenes since, according to you, Igbos displayed hostility to them? Long before Nairaland was created in March 2005, irredentist Ibo secessionists websites, Yahoo! Groups, and discussion forums were created in the late 1990s to the 2000s to INDOCTRINATE Ibo youths with hate towards other Nigerian ethnic groups and distorted historical events. I used to visit those Massob and other mushroom pro-biafra secessionist websites to read all the hate and outright lies or half-truths being churned out. Some of those websites from the early 2000s still exist in cyberspace with all the rabid hate those Ibo youths were spitting. These past online evidence going back to the 1990s will be used in the Nigerian OR international courts of law of it comes to that to combat these lies and hate-filled propaganda. Those secessionist Massob websites were the forerunners of the Ibo-owned Ipob hate speeches that started In the early 2010s before 2015 when GEJ left the scene. What are the names of those websites? Links to those discussion forums? Or do you think one would accept your lies hook, line and sinker? You also have IGNORED or forgotten in your quick attempts to disparage some prominent folks that it was even a large number of prominent Yoruba folks and other Nigerians especially from the South who mobilized in Lagos and Abuja insisting that Goodluck Ebelema Jonathan must become the Acting-President of Nigeria after Yar'Adua became indisposed. Professor Wole Soyinka, The Save Nigeria Group of Tunde Bakare, Femi Falana, SAN, Yinka Odumakin and many other Yoruba pro-democrats rose up in 2010 when former President Yar'Adua was very ill to speak out for sustainable and true democracy which finally led to Goodluck Ebelema Jonathan's coming onboard as the Acting-President.Two truths can co-exist. The same people lampooned Jonathan based on his ethnicity and supported an incompetent feudalist to take the reins of power. The reason Prof Wole Soyinka was upset and pained about former President Goodluck Jonathan towards 2014 as reported was NOT as a result of ethnic bigotry but simply because of the massive rise in nationwide insecurity as exemplified by the kidnapping of the Chibok girls by Islamist terrorists and the insecurity in major states in the South West due to the activities of Ijaw pipeline vandals in Arepo in Ogun State and the creek areas of Ikorodu, Epe, and Victoria Island in Lagos State who then turned to brutal armed robbers, killing, raping and kidnapping for ransom [including a first class Oba in Lagos was kidnappedYeah, the Chibok girls saga, which had Shettima refusing to close the school a few days to the attack, EVEN after receiving info that an attack was imminent. That saga, oh yeah! Crimes have been happening across Nigeria abi initio, and has even skyrocketed. So, why has your darling Wole Soyinka been mute regarding the incessant slaughtering of farmers across the south west and other parts of Nigeria? It was when former President Buhari came onboard that he ordered the Nigeria Airforce jet fighters in 2016 [with the aid of reconnaissance aircraft], to bomb the many camp hideouts of the vicious Ijaw militants in the creeks of Arepo, Ikorodu, Epe, moving right into Ogun Waterside and coastal area and creeks of Ondo State to decimate them and since 2016 there has been peace in those areas. Professor Wole Soyinka was just one out of millions of Nigerians who where angry with the way Jonathan mismanaged corruption and maorly insecurity in Nigeria after so much hope was put in him, so he was voted out in 2015. So it was very wrong of you to single out only Prof. Soyinka for demonization when there were millions of Nigerians who felt Jonathan's performance was way below par in especially the area of security and wanted him out.The same way Wole Soyinka supported the "incorruptible" Buhari in 2015 and 2019. Yeah, that tabula rasa Buhari. It was the young lady named Sissie Yemi who posted an offhand sarcastic claim online about some Yoruba folks and facial looks or skin complexion during the 2023 election in just a tiny part of Lagos. I READ her original online post and it was worded differently from the FAKE news and fictitious lies being bandied around online by certain very notorious Ibos falsely claiming that Yorubas who were light-skinned and looking well-built were prevented from voting. This is the most insulting and ridiculous claim anybody can make! The Yoruba folks are more than 50 million worldwide and there are Yorubas with different shades of brown skin complexions from dark brown to naturally light-skinned.Everyone read it, so stop sounding like the rest of us are blind or cannot read or comprehend tweets. The tweet is still there if you want to re-read it. No one says Yoruba people don't have those who are not fair or light in complexion. But there were targeted attacks on people who were fair because of the belief that they could be Igbos. Igbos are known nationally to be fair even though they are darker Igbos. The prevailing narrative is that Igbos are fairer in complexion. BTW, the 2023 attacks were not the first. In 2019, thugs backed by the government disrupted voting in Okota and its environs. The videos are online. Before then, the Oba of Lagos threatened to push Igbos into the Lagos Lagoon. The video is there. There are actual government officials promoting Igbo hatred on Twitter: https://twitter.com/chude__/status/1727977544664732036 https://x.com/Bisolaaa/status/1727724483375411459?s=20 https://x.com/Bisolaaa/status/1727738672542335158?s=20 [i]Some notoriously dishonest Ibos have formed a very vicious habit of throwing the first stone, while taunting others, then when there is a strong backlash or response, these people start shouting and playing the VICTIM. Unknown to these young folks, there is a vast documentation and digital evidence of every bad thing Ibos have posted for years online before even Nairaland was created and these would be used to knock the winds out of the sails of these criminal defamations, ethnic bigotry and propaganda. It is even shameful that these group of Ibos copy and paste false propaganda materials from those hate-filled Ibo owed websites, social media platforms and paste them here on Nairaland and they carelessly leave a trail of evidence of their defamatory activities online.Provide the names of those websites; their links and founders. Merely stating so is not a shred of evidence. Provide the source and let everyone see it. |
Eriokanmi:While the bold is true, you cannot compare the calibre of those tribes or ethnic groups to what we have in Nigeria. Their cultural characteristics make their situation entirely different from ours. All cultures are not equal, some are more equal than others. |
Tohsynetita1:Sure, I know there is money in it, but it is quite expensive to begin with especially if one wants to remove middlemen. Those middlemen make a lot of money. |
laivwire:He is just supplying African stores, that is it. And yes, there is money in it provided he follows the rules and is a direct supplier. |
ivolt:In PPP terms, the Chinese are ahead. Everything else, the Americans are ahead. The American economy is gigantic, roaring, domineering and intimidating. |
ivolt:I understand the place of money in a relationship, but if there is no genuine likeness/desire from any party, especially the woman as exemplified in this debacle, it is going nowhere. As we have seen, even his money did not prevent her from leaving the union. |
Alaigbo:If a woman does not geninuly like you as a man, yet you keep spending on her, anything you see, take it like that. If e didn't dey, e didn't dey. You cannot buy genuine attraction, nor can you negotiate it. |
advanceDNA:Two of her siblings attend renowned private universities in Nigeria. If she did, that makes it three. Let's be honest: a family that can sponsor their wards to private universities, especially the elite ones, are doing well by Nigerian standards. From her tale and Israel's, the Israel man fvck up. He thought he could buy love, aka negotiate geninue desire. |
Before COVID, I found this interesting. Not again. If no be full-fledged animal, I no dey interested. |
tensazangetsu20:LOL! I did some calculations recently, and had to suspend my plans. It costs money o to export. This is aside from finding customers. It is doable and actually the best way to invest in Nigeria, but it costs money, make I no lie. Tohsynetita1:Are you sure you not mistaking revenues for profits? |
new2012:This is a mentality amongst Lagos-based Igbos: Yorubas from other states cannot lay claim to Lagos simply because they aren't from Lagos. Newsflash: that is not true. Culturally, it is permissible. Just because it is not applicable to other ethnic groups does not mean others cannot have such a practice. We have had Yorubas from Kwara, Osun and Kogi being political holders in Lagos. Let me state it clearly, they will be regarded as indigenes over you, who has resided there for ages. Universities' placements are another example. An Itsekiri has a higher chance of getting into Unilag/LASU than someone from Anambra. So, let go of the mindset that someone from Osun cannot lay claim to Lagos. |
IbeOkehie:The bold reminds me of a dude I came across his profile who studied at Cambridge University and is based in the UK. He tweeted a response that Lagos elites were angry that Igbos won electoral seats in 2015, and vowed to stop such from reoccurring. That was the same period the Oba of Lagos threatened to push Igbo people into the Lagos Lagoon. So don't be deceived by rants from intellectwats like BreconHills. Before he existed, there was a Gbawe (you could look up the profile) and Rhino.sdm. No be today we have monikers who seemingly sound very educated that propagate APC propaganda. The same BreconHills said APC is not a socialist party. You can imagine the lie. |
IbeOkehie:He is still active. I checked his profile. Just in case OP thinks anyone, at least myself, is here to mock him; that is not true. His experiences will go a long way to reassure or caution or inform recent migrants whether a decision to return Nigeria is the best. At least, others like EgunMogajji and Qc1 have done theirs. We are here to learn. |
So even with the high tuition fees and students from elite families, the school cannot organsie a simple Law faculty? ![]() DDIA:It is actually an expensive school with children from upper middle class families. So, I am surprised they cannot do things properly. |
Calitoscassius:The thing tire me o. Calling the federal government to come to their rescue as if the government in Lagos and Aso Rock are different. Anyone who can invest 300 - 500 million naira in property in Lagos can do the same in Barbados and the Bahamas, but these people have their intestines tied to FESTAC. They will learn the hard way. |
Daystar7:I understand the politics of seaports in Nigeria, but there is a seaport in Rivers - Onne Port. The south east cannot have a seaport because it is a landlocked region. The only option is cooperating with Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Bayelsa to have seaports. Then build railways connecting those states to the south east. Also, construct Trunk A roads. Regarding the rest of your post, this is the reason you people keep being victims. Is your umbilical cord tied to Lagos? What stops you from renting a two or three-bedroom apartment while doing your business? What stops you from owning a property in Asaba while you conduct your business in Lagos? Must you die put in Lagos? They said they don't want you, why cant you leave? If you must invest in real estate, there are other African countries and elsewhere in the world where you will be treated as a foreigner rightfully rather than being treated as such in your country. You people never learn, that is my problem. But I am sure they will force you people to have sense; by fire, by force. I will always be here to remind you people. |
IbeOkehie:One never loses betting against Nigeria. You have been right all along. I need to re-read your tales on real estate investments. |
Nwaotu10:There is nothing wrong with investing outside Igbo land for a start, especially if it will generate higher returns, but the investment should not be permanent. Everything should be rented - shops, stores, factories, residential property etc. Get a lease on everything. Never own the asset, rather lease it. Profits should be repatriated outside Nigeria. Before the US-China trade war, both countries' companies invested a lot in each other. But as the trade war started and intensified, they reduced investments drastically across all board. As it is, only German companies are still investing heavily in China. The remaining Western bloc, plus Japan and South Korea, have reduced their investments in China. On the other hand, China has reduced investments in Western countries and increased them in countries abut to the West. That is, Mexico, Vietnam, Thailand, Morocco etc. Why can't Igbo business people do the same? Honestly, it is disappointing that people can have money yet be stoopid. A smart Igbo man should have SOLD his residential property the moment Tinubu won the election. The events leading to the election clearly showed that these people don't like us. It was that simple. I stated everything here: https://www.nairaland.com/7621766/tinubus-nigeria-nigeria-2050 There is NOTHING happening today that wasn't mentioned in that thread. In fact, this is the preamble. I warned, but Lagos-based Igbos seem to have forgotten the historical relationship between Igbos and Nigeria. I am finding it difficult to pity them, honestly. I will always be here to remind them because I warned them. |
LocalFARMERS:Sorry, but Ibino is the name of the market or the area it is located? Or did you mean Ibeno? |
BigIyanga:That makes sense. But if such is prevalent, especially on the yearly payment of rents, why are foreign investors not trooping into Nigerian real estate sector like it is done in other countries? Per 2nd bold… I dont understand, why are you using a house as a collateral to buy another house?Isn't that the prevalent way of real estate investment in developed countries? Citizens buy a house using a deposit, then after the property has gained value, they use it as a collateral to obtain another loan to purchase another property and on it goes? I know of someone looking for a residential property to let @15m/yr when they got the money to pay.. it had been rented by another tenant.Commercial real estate makes sense, but not me and Nigeria. Other African countries and black dominated places dey available. |
Both are irresponsible! I don't advise irresponsible people!!! |
studyless123:My bad. I should have been more specific - I am not interested in residential properties as the investment will be dollar-domiciled, but returns are naira domiciled. How does that translate to profit? Who do you think owns many of the AirBnB homes in Lagos? It makes sense to use naira investment to invest in real estate in Nigeria, but dollars? I am not too sure. The naira has devalued so badly, especially last year and this year. If the owners of these residential properties intend to move back for good to Nigeria, I can understand. This is why I also stated that Nigeria is not the only black dominated country. There are other options. Most importantly, my parents already own residential properties, so I don't see the need to double down with dollar capital to earn naira. My uncle, who resides in Northern Europe, has a property only God knows how much he ploughed in, but the rents are in naira. And the property was completed before the rapid naira devaluation o. Don't let anyone deceive, search the internet and you'll understand why Lagos/Abj is a good investment for real estate. The major problem investors face is Government/community encumbrances.I agree that both cities are the best for residential property investments, but the politics of Nigeria deter me. I will look at other places. |
BigIyanga:First bold, the naira tends to devalue rapidly than the dollar or euro. I really need to look at the numbers behind using dollars to invest when the returns are naira domiciled. Second bold, isn't the narrative that the first house would be used as a collateral to obtain a loan to invest in something else? Although, I agree that liquid cash is king. |
ednut1:They will learn the hard way. ![]() |
luminouz:If so, then we are in the same boat. You are also very biased. I tend to assess issues from the root stages. It is men who control societies and whip other groups to order. Case study: Arab men. I cannot recall where I did not apportion blame to a woman if she is guilty. If it is a criminal offence, the offender gets the blame. If it is prostitution, that is clearly men's fault. That is biological. If men don't patronise these women, they will close shop. What else? I don't support gender equal pay, as I believe it is nonsense. I don't support affirmative employment for women, as that, too, is nonsense. Everything should be by merit. For marriage? I believe in divorce. I rarely put mouth in marital affairs. If the woman decides to stay, her business. She decides to leave? Her business. I believe in people exercising their right to choose but should be prepared to bear the consequences of their actions. If they play strategic games, they win strategic prizes. If they play stoopid games? They win stoopid prizes. No ifs or buts. Your sendong Pms to NL girls doesn't make you a simp🙄. It's the incessant validation you give them online that made me notice you. Shuuu, if you east Asian girls at your neck and call, you will have no time for online validation biko. Japan, Chinese, Korean and Mongolian girls will have you if you are tall and built like me. But e be like say you short and ugly!😛Accusations of sending PMs are usually the first line of attacks from alfa meils, which is why I referenced it. Again, only one "f" moniker. I am not a handsome man, something I have stated several times here. I did not come to this country to look for women. I find them facially attractive, but not sexually. I prefer black women. Black ladies sef here, I just look, admire and go my way. There are countless of them where I come from. I am not here to be liked or loved by women. BTW, the cries of women not finding recent black African attractive men come from the West - Germany, UK, Canada etc. I have not seen anyone here complain say women no like them. In fact, na women dey rush some of them and my guys have been urging to be room for women. I am not interested, one bit. Who doesn't know East Asian men are simps? At least you are redeemable, western simps are irredeemable and the worst. The thing about this simp accusation that vexes me is that these men you accuse of being simps have developed their societies to be prosperous, powerful and safe. That is my concern as that is the epitome of being an alfa meil, not shouting say women do this and women do that. A safe and prosperous society is my definition of men being an alfa meil, not being attractive to women. |
