Dont you think Buhari will tackle corruption headlong?
I voted Buhari for just 2 things. I wasn't expecting him to fix electricity, road, education etc I just wanted someone that can put an end to Corruption and violent as if I knew what was lying ahead of the nation. These in my opinion are the two major problems Nigeria has. Curtail these two menaces and all other things will fall in place with time. Forget about Education, infrastructure, health, economy etc if you can't resolve these two monsters (The fund to be used for these necessary development will and is being embezzled).

He should just go and chill somewhere in his compound thanking his lucky stars that he's not in jail for his past deeds.

Is it only me or has anyone else noticed that buhari and others like the northern elites and even bakare have NEVER put out an outright condemnation of boko haram or their action.
What we end up hearing from them are things like: 'the authorities are not doing their job to stop bombing', 'it is  as a result of corruption' and other shallow views to the issue.

Elsewhere, the norm should be to condemn the bombers and their actions and then urge the authorities to fish them out.

Its either these people are afraid of boko haram or they know something about them.
Have you ever seen/heard any civilized nation negotiating with terrorists? What you are asking for is very close to negotiating with terrorists. WE DO NOT NEED TO BEG ANY TERRORIST ORGANIZATION, WHAT WE NEED IS COMPETENT SECURITY AGENCIES TO FISH THEM OUT AND PROSECUTE THEM ACCORDING TO THE LAW OF THE COUNTRY.

By condemning, you are indirectly recognizing them and giving relevance and they get bolder. I'll rather have a serious gov that is alive to its responsibilities rather than appealing to faceless terrorist groups. By the way, they are unconcerned by your condemnation anyway, so why waste your energy condemning instead of smoking them out.

Can't say the same for chineese, indians and EVEN U.S. These countries (U.S inclusive wether anybody like it or not) are all self-centered and will only support the corrupt gov. for their gains alone. Isn't there any plan for small scale enterprenuers who wants to do business? Why must it be all about Foreign and the dangote investors et al? Have we forgotten about Michellin and Cadbury? Luring investors in one thing, keeping them for decades is another. If the cost of doing business is not favourable then this is all just a bunk of joke. GEJ is not my fan but for the sake of the country I pray he succeeds. Problem is you cannot continue to do things in the same old ways and expect to get a different result.

I have never known anything called tribalism. A very senior cleric in the church accused me of removing Christians from decision-making positions in CBN. I became CBN Governor in 2009; the term of the CBN Board of Directors expired. I recommended a board to President Yar'Dua; out of 11 members on the board only 3 are muslims. The Monetary Policy Committee of the CBN which I constituted has 7 members, only 1 is a muslim. A Deputy Governor's seat became open when I was Governor; Dr Kingsley Moghalu was in Geneva. I went, convinced him to come back to Nigeria and convinced the President to appoint him.
On our 5-member Committee of Governors(COG), 3 are Christians, 2 are muslims. We have 24 departmental directors in CBN that I appointed, only 8 are muslims. Theses are the people who took the decision on Islamic Banking. The Director of Financial Policy and Regulation who signed and issued the guidelines on Islamic Banking, his name is CHRISTIAN Chukwu. He reports to D-G in charge of Financial Systems Stability, Dr K. Moghalu. The report comes to the COG of 5, three(3) of them are Christians. It goes to a board (CBN) of 11, eight (cool of them are Christians.
Then all these Christians must be bad christians if they are part of an attempt to Islamise Nigeria
. I dont want to engage people. I can discuss this on religious ground. I can quote from Exodus, Deuteronomy and Leviticus. I have quotes on Islamic Banking. I can debate on religious grounds and prove to anybody based on the Bible. In fact, the Natural Council of Christianity at one time said anybpody who gives usury should not be buried in a catholic cemetery. I can debate with anybody on religious grounds based on the Bible and the teachungs of the Church that usury is less consistent with Christian teachings

That is a shame to say the least, how come no one is going to Jail for running a Bank aground anyway?
There people that have rigged elections, ruled a state for more than two years b4 the court over-turn the government. Those individuals have not gone to jail rather they go to church and mosque for thanks giving. Such is the sad story of the nation, little wonder no one is going to jail for running the banks down.

The fear of death is the beginning of suffering!!

A thread is still fresh in our heads about Diasporans saying they owe Nigeria nothing and therefore have no responsibility to build Nigeria. What kind of responsible person says that?

We have people like Soyinka who are constantly voicing out their opinions, Soyinka's role when they didn't want to handover administrative power to Jonathan was very vital, The man left all he was doing and came to Nigeria,

If you go to Lagos, you will know humanity is now printed in naira notes. Everything isn't just right. A friend's dad was gonna give out stoopid house renting for $35k/year and I asked the guy if he knows that is too much for a house in VGC and his reply was, "Lagos is not for poor people" (I didn't give him the fone I brought for him from here angry angry angry). People are losing their souls. Money is becoming more and more powerful!!

So, when are we going to get up and be ready to get shot for a good life? Elitism is eating deep into our souls and it's a shame,

Many Nigerians will fight against Nigeria for a US green card instead of fighting against our thieving, clueless politicians who turned us desperados!!!

So it all boils down to us THE PEOPLE!!, People deserve the government they get,

PoliticsRe: Team Jonathan- It Isn't That Bad by gists: 8:01am On Aug 05, 2011
oolumide:
The Team:

President Jonathan recently announced his team who will drive the economy to achieve desired results. Members of the team are men and women of integrity, professionals of high standard expected to change the ways things have been over the decades. They are expected to introduce measures that will boost the economy in all ramifications. Such measures will address infrastructural decay, power sector quagmire, bad roads, corruption and now threatening issue of Boko Haram and other sect or religious upheavals.

Dr.Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Finance Minister:

Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a woman of esteemed vision. She is a technocrat and a woman of strong will. Those who worked with her in the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo can tell better. At 52, she is leaving World Bank as Managing Director to come and offer her contributions to her fatherland. She is expected now with all her experience to come and drive economic development. With the dwindling world economy that has affected all countries, including Nigeria, she is indeed a good choice for the ministry. She holds Doctorate Degree in Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in United States. She is equally a product of Havard University. Her father was a renowned economist and professor.

She is expected to join in the war against economic indiscipline among ministries and states, including corruption among public officers who collect allocations for job execution and end up diverting them to private pockets. She is expected to introduce fiscal measures that will boost the economy, check inflation, and boost the economies of the finance industry. Okonjo-Iweala who has received many awards, spent three years in Obasanjo’s administration during which she left an indelible mark. She negotiated with the Paris Club to secure a debt relief of $18billion for Nigeria. Many believe that her second coming as Minister is a big boost to Jonathan’s administration considering her transparency in all economic issues. Among the challenges is for her to enforce reduction in recurrent spending and deficit budgeting.

Senator Idris Umar; Transport Minister

Umar, former member of the House of Representatives for two terms, senator from 2007 to 2011, is a lawyer from Gombe State. He is coming at a time when the Transport industry is facing a lot of challenges. He is expected to champion the establishment of National Transport Commission, as a regulator in the transport sector. The commission is expected to perform roles that will checkmate all operators in the ports industry, including concessionaires and shipping companies who are being accused of imposing illegal charges on importers. Born December 28,1959, Umar is also expected to continue with the rail projects, to such an extent that major cities are linked. All the ports in the country are expected to be linked with rails to ease the congestion in the roads leading to the seaports. The current nightmare being suffered by workers and business men in Apapa is also a challenge to the Minister. Among others, he is expected to influence an end to this nightmare through the completion of the ongoing road project on roads leading to and out of the Apapa port. The development of the nation’s shipping industry is also a challenge to the minister in terms of ensuring that the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) performs this statutory role. NIMASA was established specifically to drive indigenous shipping development in the country. Seen as a grassroot politician, many believe that he will introduce policies that will lift the transport industry.

Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi – Aviation Minister:

At a time that the aviation industry is described as having many difficulties with airlines not breaking even, and currently collecting bail-out funds, Princess Oduah-Ogiemwonyi, no doubt has an enormous task ahead. The infrastructure decay in many of the airports, aviation fuel scarcity and workers’ warpath with some of the concessionaires are among these challenges. Although she is an expert in the petroleum sector, she does not seem to have experience in the aviation sector. This means that she will have to study the industry. She will be expected to tackle safety issues and other key infrastructure in the airports. She is expected to introduce modern touch at the airport facilities to bring them in line with world standards. She is also expected to ensure that airfares are brought under control for customer satisfaction without compromising profitability of the airlines. She was born in 1962 in Onitsha, Anambra State, and holds Master’s Degree in Accounting and Business Administration. She established Sea Petroleum and Gas Company Limited after leaving NNPC in 1992.

Petroleum Minister: Diezani Allison Madueke

The petroleum industry remains the engine room of the nation. It holds key to the survival of the nation’s economy in many respects. A brief profile of the Minister, Mrs Diezani Allison –Madueke, shows that she is no doubt equipped for this task. Mrs Allison –Madueke is returning to the petroleum industry for the second time. She is an alumna of Howard University and Cambridge University in the United States of America and Britain. She had put in several years working for Shell before she was appointed as Minister of Transport in 2007. She was later redeployed to the Ministry of Mines and Steel before she was moved to the Ministry of Petroleum.

One major task confronting the Minister, is how to make the refineries work permanently. This means also that the country will have to end the decade of refined petroleum importation. She also has the challenge of the Petroleum Industry Bill and the planned removal of oil subsidy. It also expected that her Ministry has to sustain the availability of fuel as against the scarcity that Nigerians suffered in the past. She also has the task of ensuring that the scam going on in the oil industry in terms of crude oil theft is checked.

First of all, I voted for Buhari and no appologies for that. But that does not mean I should not support or commend any good work done by the president. Problem is, as long as there are no pointer to any substantial positive achievements, then don't expect to get accolades but bashing (not that the bashing will pull a single string of hair from their body while the looting continues anyway. Not even Iweala can stop the looting).

Nigerians are tired of expectations and promises that are never met. The real challenge is meeting expectations and fulfilling promises, not some overated resumes of ministers. I don't want to start picking holes in some of the ministers as that will not yeild any positive result. Enough of "is expected to" let them just do the work they promised to do. Yes some of them just came in and need some time, but then some are also returning after zero achievements  huh huh huh

Just because of the way the CBN Governor handled this whole Islamic bank issue, it has raised unnecessary dust. I am a Christian and I do not have any issue with the establishment of banks as along as they do not interfere with conventional banks in Nigeria. And in any case, a banking product like this was offered by the now-merged Habib bank.  The problem is really with his initial insistence that Islamic Compliant banking shall be the only form of Non-interest banking in Nigeria, with a heavy dose of Sharia modality and personnel in place. What a more temperate person would have done was to leave a window open for anyone who wants to practice their own form of Non-Interest banking. He has a strong personality and quite intelligent. Such people will push anything they believe in through and go all the way_even if they are heading in the wrong direction!

Quite a few people don't even know how this operate. They imagine free money from this Islamic banks. I do not know the finer details but the way it works is more like an investment into whatever you need money for and the profit or loss is then shared. So< those of you who have been fantasizing about free money should please wake up.
Your post reminds me of a program ("The Dragons" or something like that) on AIT some months back where enterprenurs come and make their biz proposals to a panel of investors (Momoh the owner of Channels TV was a member of the panel). Then they ask a series of questions, and if you are able to answer convincingly, they invest their personal money after an agreement is reached on a profit sharing formular. If they are not convinced, they give you advice on what you could do and tell you sorry they can't invest because of x y z. It was very mature and my favourite programme at that time. That's the kind of reality shows that should dominate our air waves as opposed to the multina dance-all and the big brothers of this world. I believe this whole NIB thing is going to be very similar to that concept. Ofcourse no free lunch, not even in free town.

There is nothing we can do about it because God's word must come to pass. It was predicted that the Antichrist will come and people will have to worship him to survive.

Christianity is not a religion but a relationship and it is not forceful but convincing. Even if you are not a Christian, you are not forced into being one to get benefits but you are encouraged. But there is a lot of force in Islam which is one of the attributes of the Antichrist.

Look, I know you will not believe but a lot of people will be forced to change to Islam to become beneficiaries and by then, other banks would have been forced to metamorphose into islamic bank or fold up. Them people will have no choice but to join or suffer and die.

This is the coming of the antichrist
SO Sanusi/Non-interst/islamic bank is now an antichrist. HABA!!!
I can't bliv anyone can still reason like this after reading such an intellectual right-up. It really shows how shallow/linear some people think. The question I'll like to ask you is how many people have been forced to convert in Nigeria or in any of the countries where Non-interest banking is operational.

Maybe you should read it again especially the one below.

zipper003:
I am a thoroughbred Anglican and I wonder how I am going to be Islamized by a bank I have a choice not to patronize. We have been fed with beer parlour tales of how Islamic principles will be applied in disbursement of the loans which in the mind of the talebearers amounts to Islamizing Nigeria. Haba! What these “merchants of the Gospel” failed to educate their followers is that there are investors who would not want their funds invested in the manufacture of alcoholic beverages, casinos, cigarettes and prostitution enhancement ventures. These individuals will not channel their funds to the normal Non-Interest banks, but to an Islamic bank window that will ensure strict adherence to these principles.
Must we always throw away anything that will do us good just because of our hatred for its source?

Do u necessarily have to belong to a group, kill people of other faith/country before you can be called a terrorist? So he is now even a lad.

Not that I expect this to make any difference or meaning to people like you. Here is a piece of what he wrote on the internet:

"And then we have the relationship between conservative Muslims and so-called "moderate Muslims". There is moderate Nazis, too, that does not support fumigation of rooms and Jews. But they're still Nazis and will only sit and watch as the conservatives Nazis strike (if it ever happens). If we accept the moderate Nazis as long as they distance themselves from the fumigation of rooms and Jews?, For me it is very hypocritical to treat Muslims, Nazis and Marxists differ. They are all supporters of hate-ideologies. Not all Muslims, Nazis and Marxists are conservative, most are moderate. But does it matter? A moderate Nazi might, after having experienced fraud, choose to be conservative. A moderate Muslim can, after being refused to enter a club, be conservative, etc."

Will we be able to maintain and improve the system there. My answer is NO. Methinks we will quickly run down the system withing a few months or years starting from the very first week.In fact things will depreciate to almost the level that we are in right now in Nigeria. Why? We won't be able to decide who rules at the center. There will be too much favoritism in recruiting who runs which agency. The uni admissions will be run on quota rather than merit system.I hope you are getting the picture.
Plutarch:
What about d hydra-headed corruption and respect 4 d rule of law wh hv been described as d invisible architect 4 d all round development of any nation.

U cant build something on nothing. If we cant address power n security ourselves then we cant do much as a nation if we are offered both on platter of gold.
with all due respect, I completely disagree with both of you. Nigerians, are not this bad. Things used to work well in this country and I believe it can still work. If you magically move all th blacks in the US and replace with Nigerians, that will not change a dime in the U.S. You why, its called "PURPOSEFUL LEADERSHIP". The most indiscipline Nigerian (and just about any nationality)will by default, behave him/herself when he get to U.S or any "WELL-GOVERNED" country. They will try to run down the system, but will not succeed and in time they will have no choice but to conform (examples are plenty even in our dear nation: Fashola is a case study in Lagos, Akunyili in Nafdac, Sanusi in CBN etc). I believe the flip side of your theroy is actually more likely to happen. Find a way to magically remove the senate in the U.S and empty the white house, then replace the lawmakers and executive with ours leaving ordianry American and see if that country wil not collapse. The saying goes a group of sheep that is led by a lion can be victorious over a group of lions that tis led by a goat.

Same applies to the issue of curruption. Nigerians are only corrupt because the system permits too many loop holes that the leaders are not interested in plugging.

My opinion is give Nigerians 27hrs per day of electricity and heaven-like peace devoid of insecurity, ABSOLUTLY NOTHING WILL CHANGE WITHOUT PURPOSEFUL CORRUPTION-FREE GOVERNANCE. You need a system that will chart the course to the desired destination

Personally, I don't think he has to come. There are other things he could have done to show he is concerned. I'm seriously restraining myself from saying  southwesterners got what they paid for. Going by the fact that the elections in the SW were the most credile and GEJ got overwhealming votes particularly in Lagos. The popular solgan then was we voted for GEJ and not PDP. Well, I won't say we told you so. My advice is just forget you have a president for the next 3yrs 10months. Hopefully by then we would be wiser not to let ethinicty and religious sentiments (but rather past anticidents and performance) be the determining factor for casting votes.
