manny4life:My brother, it is called misplaced priorities. The kids in the U.S district you talked about most likely have well equipped libraries, condusive classrooms and teachers' motivation is not even an issue for them. Most people will agree that we don't have such luxuries in public schools in this country. People are not saying he should not encourage students, but must it be with money? Nigeria is already a country where we have traded our values for money (in other words we no get shame again because of moni ). Inducting pupils into the same culture at their tender ages is just suicidal for the nation. Besides is he not even discouraging them? Why go to school just to earn N100 a month when you can earn multiples of that in a day in owerri market.I believe he can extend his philanthropist scholarship now that he is a governor, he can buy books not only to equip the libraries but for every pupil in public schools. School uniforms can be yearly if he so much want to encourage them. He can increase the teachers' salaries. You'll be amazed at the turn-out if sporting activities and other talent are being encouraged. There are many things he can do with the N100 (that will run to 100s of millions recurring expenditure every month) PointB:This is not the same as handing them N100 every month. Do think the idea of free education can be actualized by dolling out N100 every month? Can that buy any book or even pay for transport for a week to the schools? |
And the fact that it will be another unproductive recurring expenditure vexes me even more |
ekt_bear:Ufortunatly, we humans can only judge action. Only God can judge intentions. Like jack bauer of 24, trust is not one of my greatest assets I have for naija politician -Fashola Inclusive (pls don't blame me). I have this feeling that if they were to put a figure to the amount that was (or that will be) disbursed, it will most likely run to 100s of millions (probably billions). Couldn't that be put to better use for the schools if he really has good intentions? Or are there lack of ideas of putting good use to public funds other than this "jamboree" |
alj_harem:Having read some of your posts in the past, I have come to respect your ideas and opinions. But this somehow doesn't fit into what you have been known for. So if we monetize going to school and tomorrow fuel subsidy is removed with the snowball effect of price hicks in every aspect of our national lives, would you recommend increase in this allawee just to encourage the kid to go to school. Should we lure kid to school with money? Are there no better ways to encourage them to school other than some state-fund-embezzlement-machinery in the name of stipend. Has he tried to use sport, talent-hunt schemes and failed? what about scholarships? I know he does that as a philanthropist. What mentality will we be giving them about money by doing this? |
Pointless if you ask me. Should we now monetize school-going for kids? Couldn't this money be used to equip the schools better? Pay teachers' over-time or something else to encourage the teachers (Have the teachers been paid to start with). Like someone said these kids will still wake up one day to the rot that the money could have been used to solve. texazzpete:I hope pointB get this into his head. |
At all those calling for Siasia's sack, would you have preferred we qualified and be disgraced like Zambia did in the last nations cup? Yes we won the match (5-4 on penalty) but the quality of the game was disgraceful to say the least (ball possession in my opinion was about 30-70 in favour of the zambians) and the Zambian even got presidential treat in their country for what they did to us. Siasia has not stayed up to a year and we want to sack him after instilling discipline and some level of purpose and urgency in the team just because we want instant result. This is what Chelsea is doing and the question is what has Abrahimovic achieved? |
Ossai famous:First of all you have to remember he was brought in almost at the last minute to head the team after Bosso (I think) apparent incompetence. 2ndly he didn't tell Haruna Lukman to lose the ball in the way and manner that is so scandalous. emiye:God bless you my brother. I tot I was the only one remembering this |
Fresh ![]() |
Personally, I still prefers Siasia. Eagles games are more exciting to watch and better chance at winning and disciline has returned under him . The problem with Naija is we want to win all the time. How would it have been if we qualified and disgraced like Egypt, Zambia and Ghana did to us in the last ACN |
Hmmmmmmmm, Why am I tempted to start accumulating the US dollars to protect my naira cash? Very risky thoguh, but for a fact we all know that if the gov. continues to do the same thing in the same old way, then the sliding trend is not likely to change. |
People will rather vote mummy Ibru, okereke, Andoaka et al rather than have a man who has saved millions from losing their life savings. A nation deserves the leader it gets. |
BetaThings:Broda, I appreciate your efforts. But you need to be careful not to let them infect you with the hate cancer. I'm not suggesting you should quit the enlightening people on the less publicized/manipulated stories though. propofol:Yes, the issued does not come up because in your case, your folks are the agressors who want to pin all the evils in the world on Islam. Even if GEJ can't cough, it must be the muslims. Without people like betathings and some others, silence may appear that we admit the falsehood to be the truth. |
propofol:The bolded part refers: 1st I agree with you we have no buisness in being defensive - and I am certainly not from a couple of my responses. I bliv these people are beyond convincing so I channel my precious time and energy toward more fruitful ventures. For example; I recall there was a thread here where someone posted a link to a pbulication where an Imam condemned the post election violence. Sadly, the hatred has eaten deep down into our xtain folks that they essentially rejected the condemnation on the grounds that it was not said in hausa language very shameful and pathetic won't you say. |
maga1:I agree with you completely. The guy just dey weep unnecessary sentiment. e.g he talked about the xtian murdered and his head paraded on the street and no arrest was made. What he fails to tell us is that there are countless murder cases in this country without any arrest. While some of his arguments sound thought-provoking, the majority of it is just "beer parlour gists" |
I beg, leave sisi mi alone. She should be a stand-up comedian. As for madam dame. . . . . . . speechless |
Nigerians and unfounded "gists"!! I just love this country. I just got a message that never you wake up from sleep while lying on your left arm. its Your bank account will be wiped ou ![]() I love this country |
norrisman:God bless you for thinking/reasoning beyond xtian fanatics on this thread. Can you just ask them what they have gained? @Lagosshia. Well I don't know what to say. Just imagine someone quoting Tabari and Ishaq as Quranic verses . It really shows how dumb they are. I personally have decided not to engage these fools again because it seems to me no matter how hard you try, they will not stop in their foolishness. I have always told them that there are far more heinous verses in the bible but I promised myself not to ridicule anybody's religion, hence I don't give bible quotes (besides it doesn't add value to me or to anyone). Very soon they will come back and say your bible verses are in the old testaments (even the likes of Matthew 10:34)Its such a shame that people have died and all we can do is blame it on religion. What happens to those that are supposed to maintain peace in Jos. Who have they arrested/tried and brought to book since these killings started several months ago. While I am not asking Nigerians to forget the perpetuators, I think we should be asking serious questions about repeated lapses in security in that part of the country. |
@kobo Stop wasting your time because some people are incapable of analyzing issues objectively (probably beyond redemption). @pro ngozi You guys want us to believe she's a saint just because she works for the World bank. I really don't know if she is innocent or not. Just one question though? Why would the US keep such an info in their database if they don't see it as important; -if they don't see it as needed (possibly for future manipulation)? |
lagcity:I am not a member of PDP. In fact I have never voted for any PDP candidate. I am also not a member of ACN although I will consider myself as an apologist of ACN. However, I will not give any political party unnecessary excuse for non performance. People (myself inclusive) are critising GEJ for non performance after 100 days in office so why should we now look for excuses for the ACN's gov? IF Fayemi and Fashola are truly the only two ACN govs performing how come these duo don't require more than 4months? I recalled Fashola landed in office running (If I can borrow that phrase from uncle J) |
I'm not very comfortable with China replacing the u.s. I think its a case of the devil you know in the US is better than the demon you don't know in China. But i must admit one need to be cautious of holding on to a falling currency. Someone suggested diversifying the reserve into precious metals. It doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. But then I'm not an economist. May be the NAIRA will be the world's currency heheheehe ![]() |
fried-rice:Hmmmm, why am I tempted to agree with you. Bode George, Cecilia, Salisu Buhari etc are case studies. We are just reading some wikileaks cables of Yar'adua $57m bribe to judges to sustain his fraudulent election. But I still think it's still d right way to go. Yes looks backward and unfashionable - at least to the west, but are not trying to please any other country. We just need positive results an I'm sure Nigeria will move forward if only we can somehow manage to get it work. |
hbrednic:Yeah right! Just that they don't mind your blood on their hands by not providing drugs in the hospital for your children. Why/how can they provide good healthcare while the money they ought to use has been looted and used for their own healthcare in Israel, Saudi etc. hbrednic:You get the death sentence in china once you are found guilty. Have they not achieved more than us. I remember in those days of Buhari/Idiagbon regime when you face the firing square for drug trafficking. That drastically reduced the number of drug pushers in this nation until maradona came and changed it to prison terms. |
My worry is will this see the light of the day? Going by the fact that the death penalty will apply to those that are supposed to effect the law. The two legislative houses will not pass it for obvious reasons - they are the first to be executed followed by the executive with GEJ 1st inline So tell me who will pass this into law when they two they'll be signing their death warrant by doing so. I'll suggest we do it in steps i.e gradually cos this will not happen overnight. First I heard on the news this morning that the election of the speaker of one of the northern house of assemblies has been overturned from PDP in favour of the ACN candidate. So let's start from their those that stole our mandate should be kicked out and executed. |
Na wa oo. I still don't get the national secret that was let loose. Do you people prefer sanusi to cover these people up? Why do we prefer to cover up corruption and look the other way? A man has come out to say the obvious (as if it was hidden to the Americans in the first place) and you're here calling him a traitor. I guess we will still have more of GEJs to come in future. I ask again what is the secret. So saying Mr. X is corrupt and Mr. Y is weak and Mr. Z's actions needs to be further investigated is now a national security secret. This is very pathetic, what a shame ![]() |
I think I really need to be educated here - seriously! Yes I'm a Sanusi fan but I'm honestly not trying to defend him. I'm sure I'm probably missing something and some of you are well knowledgeable in this field. The question is WHERE/WHAT IS THE NATIONAL SECRET BEING REVEALED? I didn't read anywhere in the post where he divulged information about the security setup for Mr. President or classified infor on National treasury or Nigerian Army arsenal or airforce fleets etc. Seriously educate me on this. It only look to me that we are washing our dirty apparels in public. But then who cares, at least we now know who is incompetent and who's fradulent. Tomorrow these guys will probably come out contesting one post or the other. |
I just wonder why Sanusi Lamido Sanusi said he is not interested in active politics. He in my opinion would have been perfect. |
woetooam4j:The high-lighted is very rare to see in today's Nigerian public office holders. Tell the truth to Mr. president and be prepared to resign if told to do the wrong thing. ANOTHER BIG KUDOS TO SLS. As for soludo, I'm not surprised at all. He was one of those that made us to believe that the stock exchange was immune to the global melt-down at that time even though it was obvious that things were crashing badly. @OP Why the question: Patroit Or Traitor? Is it not obvious he a Patriot? |
Oyb Be prepared to read rubbish about how the northern elders are using wikileaks & co to discredit uncle jondull. Beaf will soon be hear to defend him as usual since Abati's effort in defending Jonathan is just too foolish |
Projectors:Baba iyabo's method didn't last until Yaárdua came with some form of economic empowerment for the ND militants even thoguh I am not in support of granting criminals be it ND militants or Boko Haram amnesty. That's why I have my reservation to limit the solution to military actions. Of course they i.e BH needs to be quarantined (like the analogy made by EagleNest) but I insist that should be a short term solution. because even if you wipe them all out today, and we don't destroy the terrorist producing factory by the name poverty the son of corruption, you can be rest assured that a new BH or something worse will come along in no too distant future. I'll recommend millitary action first as short term solution and sincere, genuine and sustained fight against corruption. @skydeexie Now you amuses me!! First you are giving explanations on just a few verses from the bible (the mildest of what some christians can use as excuse to kill) and you expect non christians to take your word for it while you don't even want to listen to the explanations of the muslims about the Quranic verses. After that you started giving the sweet parts your pastor uses. Mind you the verses you provided are not even near the clear-cut instrustions to kill in the bible. skydeexie:I promised not to give any biblical quote, but since you generously provided the word "sword", let me give you a short list of keywords in the bible to be executed with sword: "KILL", "UTTERLY DESTROY", "SPARE THEM NOT", "SELL YOUR CLOAK AND BUY A SWORD, etc" (sorry if I got the phrase wrong but a good xtian will know the verse). I do not intend to convince you or anybody about any religion. You have the right to think whatever you like. The problem is with people like you in the press (particularly western press) who lives in self denials about xtians worldwide are non-violent against all obvious facts the likes of Ratko Mladić would have committed lots of atrocities b4 they are brought to book (if ever) |
PointB:All of these if done correctly will work. But the problem is; for how long? These in my view are short term solutions. Remember the BH leader was killed during Ya'rdua administration. But what do we have now? A bigger and even more deadly BH. Your item 7 looks desirable, but we will be sending a very wrong message across to the other regions of the country. Why should it be just able bodied individuals of the group? Does that not mean for you to get attention in Naija, you have to be a militant or BH or other maniac? I'll rather have a working policy that enable people get jobs or can be enterprenues so as to reduce poverty. |
@Topic I strongly believe curroption and injustice led to poverty in this once great nation. You have the right to disagree with me. The issue of BH and other militant groups would not have existed if we were just and less corrupt. Hence, in my own view their is absolutly nothing that GEJ can do to stop this except he addresses these two issues. I believe 90% of BH members and other militant groups will not participate in their evil deeds if they had meaningful work that can sustain them and their family. I don't see a responsible father that can afford 3 good meals for his family strapping bombs around his waist with the sole aim of killing himself and taking many more people with him. I am not suggesting amnesty, I am saying put measures in place that will guaranty justice and create employment. This can only be done in a non-corrupt nation. @Okunboy & skydeexie I really don't want to engage anybody on this topic because my experience is that people like you have made up your minds already and their is nothing people can tell you that will make you understand. skydeexie had already said we will soon start looking for similarities in the bible. But the fact is that the verses okunboy gave are just childs' play to the atrrocities in the bible. I will not provide any quote because it does not in any way add value to me or anybody. I will only advice you read your bible more (not just the sweet parts that your pastor uses every service). By the way terrorism is a global problem and not just with perceived muslims: where were you when christian millitia groups were building up heavy-duty military hardware in the US. Yes they used the bible verse (Luke) as a justification for wanting to killing police officers. Tell me how do these differ from BH? You talk about christians in Muslim dominated countries. May I ask Where were you when minority muslims in Bosnia were killed in countless numbers? Remember the christian Norwagian terrorist was later called an assailant. This mean he will likely get a life prison sentence and tax payers' money will be used to feed him everyday for the rest of his life. Someone has raised a topic on how to get solution to BH, you could not provide even an unintelligent suggestion all you can do is blame it on muslims and Islam -what a shame!! . I REPEAT, TERRORISM IS A WORLD PROBLEM AND UNTIL PEOPLE LIKE YOU REALISE THIS FACT AND JOIN RESOURCES TOT STAMP OUT THE SCOURGE, TERRORISM WILL CONTINUE TO STRIVE. |
noblezone:Are you sayong we've had it. There's no going back on bombing for the next 3+years (or is it 5+yrs) just because we have a president who come from the south and as such any form of violent in other region of the country will just go unchecked while apprehended criminals from his constituency will be given state pardon? There were violence in every region of the country during OBJ (he is not by any means my fan) but he at least tried and made visible efforts to quash them all some successfully some not. But what do we have now? You and I know "he is on top of the situation" |
