Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has said aggrieved politicians sponsored Monday attacks in the state. Uzodinma spoke on Wednesday while featuring on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme monitored by The PUNCH. The PUNCH had reported that gunmen on Monday attacked the Owerri Correctional Prison and freed over 1800 inmates. The attackers also razed the Imo State Police Command headquarters situated in Owerri and burnt all the vehicles parked at the command headquarters. The hoodlums further freed the suspects in the cells at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the command and made an attempt to loot the police armoury in the state. The PUNCH gathered that the gunmen operated from 1am till 3am on Monday and sang solidarity songs at the Government House Roundabout for about 30 minutes before attacking the facilities. The police have since accused members of the Eastern Security Network, the security arm of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, of been the masterminds of the attacks but the secessionist agitators led by Nnamdi Kanu have since denied the allegation. But speaking on the television programme, Uzodinma discredited the claim that IPOB members perpetrated the heinous acts. He said, “Their (attackers’) tactics is that they try to identify grievances of people in a particular area. If it is in Imo State and probably there are some IPOB people who are not happy, they hire hoodlums from outside Imo State, they bring them in pretending to be IPOB and they commit these crimes and they go away. “So, it is not about IPOB. Yes, we agree, we have aggrieved IPOB members but I can tell you those who are doing this destruction, most of them were brought in from outside Imo State.” Continuing, the governor said, “What is important for Nigerians to know is the plot by a group of aggrieved politicians to destabilise the government of APC (All Progressives Congress). “I have done some thorough investigation and I have some credible lead as to those who are sponsoring these activities of these hoodlums. “I don’t want to pre-empt the investigations of other security agencies but I can tell you we are working hard to ensure the sponsors of this dastardly acts must be brought to book.” https://punchng.com/breaking-aggrieved-politicians-sponsored-imo-attacks-uzodinma

Theres no equipment that a hospital needs that Nigerian government cannot buy. This is the same government that wants to build railway for Niger Republic and refinery of 1.5 billion dollars |
Popular Nigerian Comedian, Okey Bakassi has slammed President Buhari over his recent trip to the UK for medical checkup. Recall that Buhari earlier departed Nigeria for the United Kingdom to meet with his doctors for a medical check up. This had triggered diverse reactions from Nigerians who claimed the President’s trip is coming at a time he is needed on ground to oversee the myriad of challenges facing the country. However, the comedian in a video via his Instagram account, noted that no President who loves his country or leading a country with substance travels to another country for medical checkup. He also asked why the President’s doctors cannot be flown in or why the Aso Rock hospital isn’t well equipped. “No President who loves his country or leading a country with substance travels to another country for medical checkup. “We have never heard that Australian President, South African President or even the President of Ghana goes to another country for medical checkups. “It hurts me so much that Nigeria which is known as a giant of Africa doesn’t have a proper medical care system. “All Buhari does is incur more debts for. Nigeria with his incessant travels. The same money they squander in putting together his medical trip to other countries should be used to set up fully equipped hospitals in the country. “Theres no equipment that a hospital needs that Nigerian government cannot buy. This is the same government that wants to build railway for Niger republic and refinery of 1.5 billion dollars. “I think its high time we as individuals in this country wake up,” he said

The attack came as confrontation intensified between Nigerian security forces and adherents of the separatist IPOB movement across the South-East. Acorrectional facility and police investigations department in Owerri were set alight by unidentified attackers in an overnight operation on Monday, reports on social media said. Multimedia and witnesses account on social media said the attackers struck the prison and police department shortly after midnight, freeing a yet-unconfirmed number of inmates and suspects. Heavy gunfire also rang through the area, with an account saying hundreds of inmates might have escaped. Senior government officials have been reportedly asked to shelter-in-place due to the proximity of the scene to the government house. It was unclear how many prisoners escaped, but Amnesty International said over the weekend that Owerri Correctional Centre had 2,156 inmates as against its installed capacity of 548 people. The level of destruction and casualty figures were not immediately available, but pictures shared on Twitter showed heavy smokes billowing from what posters said were the scenes of the attack that lasted for more than two hours. Imo police spokesman Godson Orlando told Peoples Gazette he was unaware of the violence, hours after reports had spread across social media with residents across different sections of Owerri reporting hearing heavy gunshots and explosions. “I am just hearing it from you now,” Mr Orlando, a police superintendent, told The Gazette by telephone at 4:48 a.m. “I will have to wait until later today to find out what happened.” A spokesman for the correctional headquarters in Abuja did not immediately return a request seeking comments. The attack came as confrontation intensified between Nigerian security forces and adherents of the IPOB separatist movement across the South-East. Since January, there have been repeated clashes between Nigerian troops and IPOB elements in Imo, Rivers, Abia and Anambra, with both sides denying responsibility for civilian casualties. Those behind the violence and their motive could not be ascertained before this report was filed.

P.M. News NigeriaApr 4, 2021 4:36 Fiery preacher, Pastor Tunde Bakare on Sunday said the state of the nation today does not represent the President Muhammadu Buhari he knew. He warned that unless the president woke up from slumber, his legacy was in grave danger of being confined to an unsavoury side of history. Bakare, in a State of the Nation broadcast said “I am compelled to speak out because this is not the Nigeria General Muhammadu Buhari and I had dreams to create when he invited me to be his running mate in 2011. “I am compelled to speak out because the state of the nation does not represent the Buhari I knew when we took that solemn journey towards rebuilding Nigeria. “I am compelled to speak out at this point because, given the state of the nation, the legacy of President Muhammadu Buhari is in grave danger of being confined to an unsavoury side of history. I am indeed compelled to speak out because Nigeria is in a state of emergency,” he lamented. Bakare, founder of The Citadel Global Community Church, said the nation’s survival is hanging in the balance and that the nation had been rushed to the emergency room. “The diagnosis indicates that a surgical procedure is unavoidable; the longer it is postponed, the more she stands to lose and the longer it will take for her to recover. The purpose of this address is to present the facts of this diagnosis and point a way out of our current crisis even as we approach a critical juncture in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. “The purpose of this address is to ensure that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari finishes strong and breaks the jinx of the second-term curse,” he said. Bakare said as laudable as the achievements of Buhari during his first tenure were, the current state of the nation was a clear indication that these efforts have been insufficient in dealing with national problems. “They have been unable to address the underlying problems of the Nigerian nation. The major limitation of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has been the failure to appreciate the fact that the problems of Nigeria are more deeply rooted than these honest efforts can reach, and that what is required is a holistic and systematic approach to governance. “Unfortunately, after winning re-election in 2019, rather than do a deep dive to address the fundamental causes of our national malady by dealing with the root causes of insecurity, corruption and joblessness, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari decided to treat more symptoms by broadening its agenda. “Instead, we have spent time papering over cracks and dressing windows while the weak foundational structures are crumbling under the weight of neglect,” he said. On security, Bakare said the president must intensify the clampdown on terrorism and banditry by expanding support to the armed forces in terms of technology, armoury, logistics, prompt action onmilitary intelligence, as well as inspirational leadership to sustain the morale of the newly appointed service chiefs. “Beyond these, the devolution of policing powers to the subnational governments must be prioritised, saying that the state governments must be empowered to form local police forces and to provide cutting edge training and equipment for these forces.

"How The Might Has Fallen,"See Photos Of Police Inspectors On Their Knees Begging For Forgiveness . Harrison Emefiena, a respected civil rights lawyer and founder of the Delta State Judicial court of investigation on police abuse, recently posted a snapshot of four cops pleading for mercy on their knees. The four officers were all police investigators, but what crime did they commit that forced them to kneel and ask forgiveness for? Harrison Emefiena and his team took steps a few days back to ensure that a student called Segun, who was kidnapped and extorted by some police officers in Lagos state, achieves justice. The four police inspectors in the picture below are the officers who kidnapped Segun and requested money from him. Segun was on his way to school when the four police officers in the photo above kidnapped him and demanded 70 thousand Naira before releasing him. He then presented the case to Harrison Emefiena, who then swung into motion, and by the end of the day, the perpetrators had been apprehended and captured, and the $70,000 had been retrieved. According to Harrison, the Inspectors had a history of committing those offences. In Lagos State, they have been extorting people along Isheri/Magodo/Beggar. A huge rally against police violence and extortion was held in October 2020 under the banners "End SARS" and "End Police Brutality." President Buhari has taken a number of steps to ensure that the need for another "End Police Brutality" rally never exists. Unfortunately, three months later, police abuse remains a significant concern in Nigeria.

The Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area in Enugu State, Bar. Cosmos Ugwueze, has dismissed alleged gun battle between operatives of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and Nigerian army within the council. Unverified reports had swirled across social media platforms on Thursday night that ESN, coordinated by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the army were engaged in a heated exchange at a remote area in Nsukka. But in a statement made available to CRISPNG on Friday, Ugwueze quashed the reports, noting that such claims were aimed at creating panic in Nsukka. The statement read: “The attention of Nsukka Local Government Council has been drawn to a false alarm capable of incalculable damage to the peace and security of lives and property in Nsukka Local Government and of course Enugu State, being circulated on the social media platforms, precisely Facebook by one David Ani, an Indigene of Nkerefi, Nkanu East Local Government Area, who is known to be hiding under the pseudo name of Odogwu na Nkanu to circulate untruths and create panic.” The statement added: A”to him, in a post titled ‘Happening now’ there is Gun battle between the team of ESN and military personnel and the military personnel removing their uniform”. “Not done with his large appetite for purveying falsehoods, he went on in another post to claim that ’28 soldiers , 19 Fulani herdsmen down in Nsukka, Enugu State last night’ “We have the responsibility of informing the general public that there was and there is no presence of ESN anywhere in Nsukka Local Government Area and there is no incident involving Nigeria Army, or Fulani herdsmen in any part of the council area. “The general public is hereby advised to go about their normal businesses without fear as Nsukka local government is peaceful and calm. “David Ani and his co-travelers are hereby advised to be more factual and reticent in their public posts and comments as they are capable of causing panic and serious security problems, not only in Nsukka, but in Enugu as well.

A number of youths whose ages range from twenty to twenty-seven have been shot dead and several others injured in Taraba State allegedly by the men of the Nigerian army. The incident, according to DAILY POST findings took place at the early hours of Friday in Baka village of Ardo-Kola Local Government Council of the state. The affected youths remains have been deposited in the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre which is located in Jalingo metropolis. They were said to be returning from a wedding ceremony when they met their untimely deaths in the hands of the soldiers. The soldiers who were in the community to checkmate the activities of hoodlums terrorizing the state, were said to have mistaken the youths for kidnappers. When DAILY POST visited the hospital premises, parents of the victims were in tears. In tears, some of the parents who spoke with DAILY POST could not fathom why the soldiers opened fire on the youths on sighting them on motorcycles instead of arresting them. One of the parents who gave his name as Bello Aliyu Jen, told our correspondent that two of his sons were among the five youths killed by the soldiers. He gave the names of his deceased sons as Abdulkadir Bello -27 and Tukur Bello-20. According to him, Abdulkadir was a final year HND student of the College of Agriculture, Jalingo. Passionately calling on the government to do the needful by bringing the soldiers to book, he said his dream had been shattered as his sons who according to him have been working round the clocks to put smiles on his face are “no more”. Other affected parents who also spoke with DAILY POST at the hospital sought to know why the soldiers on sighting the youths from a distance decided to open fire on them, instead of arresting and interrogating them to ascertain their missions. Our state correspondent who was at the hospital as at the time the remains of the deceaseds were brought in observed that their bodies were rattled with bullets. A top security personnel who spoke with our correspondent at the hospital scene apportioned blames to parents who according to him always allow their children and wards to “go out at late hours. ” The deputy speaker of the State House of Assembly, Harman Adama, who was also sighted at the hospital premises told DAILY POST that two of his first cousins were among the five youths that were gunned down by the soldiers. The Deputy Speaker who observed that the incident occurred during the dead hours of the day cautioned parents and guardians to always tread extra legitimate miles to prevent their children and ward from going out of their houses at late hours. According to him, the soldiers who have been given presidential directives to flush out hoodlums from the state and the country at large have said their actions were not intentional.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK APR 02, 2021 Evacuation: Our Consulate In Saudi Arabia Helping Niger Republic Citizens, Ignored Us, Nigerian Returnees Allege The affected Nigerians, who served mostly as house helps in Saudi Arabia, also accused their former bosses of sexually molesting and maltreating them while in their service. The latest set of Nigerian returnees from Saudi Arabia has alleged that the country's consulate in Saudi Arabia is helping more citizens of the neighbouring Niger Republic than Nigerians, who are stuck in deportation camps in the Arabian country. The affected Nigerians, who served mostly as house helps in Saudi Arabia, also accused their former bosses of sexually molesting and maltreating them while in their service. "They are not Nigerians; they are Nigeriens. Nigerians are there and they are suffering. I was there for two months plus in the deportation camp," a visibly angry Nigerian told journalists in Abuja. Another returnee, who spoke in the Hausa language, lamented the dehumanising treatment they were subjected to in Saudi Arabia. She said in a report by ChannelsTv, "My suffering started from my arrival in Saudi Arabia. I was sad because my education couldn't help me in my country. I was in my master's house doing my chores." The Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called for calm while addressing the allegations. The Consular-General in the Ministry, Ambassador Akinremi Bolaji, said the Federal Government would launch a probe into the incident. "I am telling you that with the permission of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, what you have said here will not go uninvestigated," he said. "Now I will meet with those who have said this and if you have names, let us know." Since January 2021, the Federal Government has evacuated over 3,000 people from Saudi Arabia, with last week witnessing the return of over 1,000 people. Although some of the returnees have tested positive for COVID-19, they have received adequate treatment because they are asymptomatic. Accusations of abuse and maltreatment of Nigerians in foreign countries have been rife in recent years. A viral video from India recently alleged that a Nigerian was killed in India, prompting protests and calls for intervention from the Nigerian government.
