It's left to you to prove yourself during the interview and that's it. That you got an interview invite is a big deal. HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE OF HATRED BETWEEN IGBO AND YORUBA
I had the privilege of attending some meetings of the Yoruba and Igbo Leaders. I was not a leader but a youth who knew how to wash his hands.
At one of those meetings in Owerri, I think in 1989, I think, I listened to Uncle Bola Ige and other Yoruba Leaders take the likes of Mbakwe, R. B. Okafor and others to the cleaners when the Igbo said the Yoruba were betrayers, citing that Chief Obafemi Awolowo led them into secession with a promise that if the Igbo left Nigeria, the Yoruba would follow suit.
They accused him of not following up on his promise. Trust Uncle Bola Ige! He pointed to Chief Mbakwe and said, "you were there in the meeting between Awolowo and Ojukwu as I was. Is that statement correct?".He turned to two other Igbo and two Yoruba Leaders who were at that meeting and asked the same question, saying he had transcripts of the meeting between Awolowo and Ojukwu.
They kept quiet while the Yoruba Leaders affirmed that Awolowo never promised to follow the East into secession. What he said was that if the Igbo were "driven" out of Nigeria the Yoruba would take it seriously and reassess their own position. Igbo Leaders DID NOT CONTEST this version.
Then Chief Bola Ige threw in the clincher! "Who are you to accuse the Yoruba of betrayal?" he roared, and continued:
1. At Independence Awolowo offered a joint government between the NCNC and AG, with Zik as Prime Minister and Awo as Finance Minister. Awo and Zik "were still negotiating" when it was announced that Zik would be President in a coalition with NPC of the North. The East then collaborated in destroying the West and sending Awolowo and his leutenants to jail!
2. What of the 1965 elections which the West and the East agreed to boycott? We met all night and reached agreement about 3am on the day of the election. In the morning, while the Yoruba boycotted the election, the Igbo went to vote
3. After the 1979 elections Yoruba (UPN) and Igbo (APP?) Leaders were still at the negotiating table for a coalition when to their surprise, an announcement was heard that the Igbo (APP) had agreed to a coalition with the North (NPN)
4. After the 1983 elections, 1979 repeated itself. Not giving up, Awolowo reached out to Azikiwe again for cooperation. Talks started and they met in Benin where Awo pleaded passionately that only a collaboration between The Igbo and the Yoruba could save Nigeria. They didn't reach agreement but promised to meet again. Before the next meeting, the Igbo had again teamed up with the North.
Uncle Bola paused and then continued "we can go on and on. So how dare you accuse the Yoruba of betrayal? How many Igbo have been killed in Lagos, Ibadan, Akure, Oshogbo (he mentioned other Yoruba towns)? You have your businesses in the West and went to Western schools. Yet you count the Yoruba as your enemy. You get killed in Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, Zaria etc and have your goods looted yet you consider the Hausa/ Fulani your friends. It's your choice. If you want to be slaves for ever, we can't help you"
I had never been so scared in my life. I thought the roof was going to fall. There was a pin drop silence and no Igbo dared interrupt Uncle Bola Ige because he was telling the truth. The Yoruba Leaders ended the meeting at that point and left. I hope Chief C. O. Adebayo's memoirs will give more details of those exchanges.
Now to make three points from all this:
A. The Yoruba have been stretching their hand across the Niger for a handshake for a long time. The Igbo refused to take it for a long time until recently
B. Many Igbo Leaders of the 70s, 80s and 90s deliberately perpetrated the legend of Awolowo's role betraying them into the civil war and his role in prosecuting the war, to rally the Igbo population behind themselves. The Igbo agreed on Yoruba hatred than on any other issue. So it was the fabric that held them together for a long time
C. Time heals all things. Many Igbo reading this will be hearing for the first time that their leaders of old knew for a truth that Awolowo did not break his word to Ojukwu as alleged.
And to think of it, EVEN IF OUR PARENTS QUARRELLED, SHOULD WE THE NEW GENERATION CONTINUE THE SAME WAY?.
ITS TIME TO COME TOGETHER AND MAKE THE HANDSHAKE ACROSS THE NIGER WORK FOR THE SAKE OF OUR PEOPLES AND NIGERIA |

Politics › Re: Video: We Will Chase Igbos And Take Their Properties - Tinubu's Wife by Goke7: 3:11pm On Sep 04, 2022 |
Things like this will only make more neutral yorubas vote along ethnic lines in the elections.
The igbos are too emotional for politics, if every tribe in Nigeria play politics like this, the igbos can never win presidency. If you want more votes from other tribes then stop demonizing others. The average igbo will never vote a yoruba man but the igbos need lots of yoruba votes to clinch presidency but stuffs like this will only make Liberal yorubas to be more suspect about the igbos and at the end its the same marginalisation cry the igbos will make when elections don't go their way.
Politics is a game, try and woo more people to your side even when your opposition makes an error, use it to your advantage and not make more enemies but will they ever listen? |

JOemmy: Obi didn't loot anambra state during his time in office like the way other corrupt politicians did to their states so how do u expect him to fund everything about his campaign where do u expect him to get the money from? In civilized climes it's supporters of presidential candidates that contribute to fund the campaigns of the candidates they are supporting not the candidates themselves. Nigerians are used to presidential candidates funding their own campaigns and even paying them to vote for them with looted public funds you people really needs to commend and appreciate peter obi for trying to change how things are normally done he doesn't deserve all these unecessary criticism. This is shameless, and difficult to believe how we can go all the way to defend what does not make sense. Oga you can't spin this, Obi can't change anything with this, am sorry. If Atiku supporters do this, no one will defend them like this and there's no evidence to show that Obi didn't loot just like no one has evidence of other candidates looting their own states except in the stories we hear or read here and there just like Obi is crafting his own story too. |

Politics › Re: Ticket For Peter Obi Town Hall Meeting In USA Costs $250-$5k - Kperogi by Goke7: 5:05pm On Sep 03, 2022 |
MrAAA2: Obi was in Frankfurt last week, about 2 hrs from me. The fee was €20 Eur. Some persons contacted the organisers to clarify why there is a fee payment, the response was that the cost of associated was from the event organisers and you pay to use their hall and space. If Peter Obi was not willing to pay, that's when people will pay for admittance.
As for this one in the US, it is the organisers, just as you pay for conferences, workshops and seminars. Peter Obi is a Guest Speaker.
Of course he knows that there will be financial gains to help him in his ambition, it's a win-win for Speaker and Organiser.
Let's call Obi, Kizz Daniel, and the organiser, a show promoter. Who wants to hear Kizz Daniel sing will have to pay an entrance fee to the show promoter/organiser, from the money realised, the halls, facilities, ushers, protocols, lunch/dinner etc will be paid. The balance goes to the organiser and Guest artiste/speaker.
It is not a LP event nor PO event... Anyways, I am apolitical but critic. This is indefensible and should be condemned by all. There is nothing wrong with admitting that this is wrong with the image being sold out to the public about Obi. If we can easily condemn other candidates if they do this, Please let's all condemn this outrightly. I know genuine guys who are supporting Obi all in the name of no shishi but with this, this is in bad light no matter how you try to explain. If the Obi campaign train continues to defend this, the opposition will latch on this to do more damage with the no shishi mantra as a mocking tool. |

The nigerians that attended the events are not even complaining they paid willingly to support the hosting of the events so I don't understand why people who didn't attend are now complaining more than those that paid to attend the events. America and nigeria are not the same country economically peter obi won't do this here in nigeria. when PO begin to mess up as President, this is how you guys will defend him. Politics › Re: Untold Reasons Why Most Young Igbos Dislike Tinubu by Goke7: 8:58pm On Aug 29, 2022 |
Abdu81: Awolowo was the brain child of the Nigerian civil war blockade of the Biafra territory.
Millions of igbos died of hunger because of the blockage.
When Gowon rejected the idea of the blockade because of its consequences on his country men and christian brothers.
Awolowo convinced the army general that every thing is acceptable in warfare. And so the blockage started in 1968.
Over three million igbos died not of bullet but because of starvation, most of this are children and women.
Awolowo had planned a total annihilation of the Igbo race, but general Gowon had to stop when it became obvious to him that Awolowo was out for genocide, and so in 1970 he recalled the Nigerian armies from the battle field.
But Awolowo was not done, as the then minister of finance he ensure that all monies belonging to every Igbo man was seized, to impoverish the Igbo race for all eternity.
However God have another plan. And here we are today.
The same battle tinubu with his Muslim brothers are fighting against the IGBOS today, but this time politically. As always God will always have his plans.
The IGBOs will never avange. Vengeance belong God. And he shall avenge.
But never again will such happen in our eyes. You guys keep blaming every strong yoruba politician for your woes from awolowo to fashola and tinubu but none has never been governor of any SE state or even Nigeria as a whole. It's time you guys look inwards. Awolowo was not the Head of state during the civil war, even if he made suggestions did he put a gun to the head of the state to approve? The igbos should learn to always blame the right people for their problems. It's laughable how tinubu is more blamed for buhari woes than buhari himself |

I think the topic can be closed now. The points are clear: be content, but always strive for more cos the job market is in a great shape now, it has never been this good for immigrants. So, don't short-change yourself especially with the rising cost of living. Citizens can comfortably take low-paying jons and be okay with it but we have a different situation and many of us aren't even entitled to State Pension, etc so we gotta be really smart! Develop yourself, get certifications, negotiate better, get side hustle, whatever it legally takes, keeping increase your finance. The old gees may not understand, na we wey just enter go hear am. But if you're on a low pay for ILR, not bad still, you have a good long-term goal, if you have a spouse, encourage them to push for better-paying jobs.

P.S: this argument was just that £22k is peanuts COMPARED to Care not that £22k is bad in itself. I no know how we drag am reach here but e don tey we drag matter like this. How soon is the soon? That's my point before you conclude whether am wrong or not. Most high paying jobs if we are talking about full time jobs can't be gotten by students who can't work beyond 20 hrs a week according to the law. Get your facts right before you turn on me. Let' people come out and say the truth, I gave an exception to those who got the jobs before landing in the UK. Lots of these jobs are also dependent on the kind of visa currently held and for some of these jobs some employers won't allow you start until you switch your visa to a tier 2 if they are going to sponsor. For most folks coming in on the student route including their dependents who can work full time, it may take them months before getting those choice jobs and yes some of them will include conditions of clearance tied to how long you've been in the UK which is where the UK experience ish is key. The chance we even have now is because of Brexit like you said but that it's not that all straightforward depending on the type of role and the conditions attached. I don't intend to argue but pls when people state their view, you don't know what their experience is like before you conclude if they are right or wrong. Thank you |

Amarathripple0: I think people tend to confuse personal opinion or assumptions with facts. I literally shared screenshots in an earlier post of messages I get from recruiters with salaries ranging from 50k upward. I also do a lot of research on the company I’m interviewing with and use that as a benchmark to mention my salary expectations. The only blocker for me is that I’m still a student and this can put employers off . However, this would end in September and I can work full time from Oct in a role I’m experienced in. Hopefully, I’d come here to testify because honestly, our expectations are not unrealistic. @the bolded, this is what I was saying earlier, that you're a student means you can't even pass any security clearance for such roles now. Have you been given the job? No of course. The recruiters sending you messages does not mean you have successfully scaled the process. I have been there. We all have to work ourselves up there. |
