Crime › Re: My Bitter Experience At The Police Station by Hamachi(f): 7:33am On Jun 23, 2023 |
Nigeria’s police are notorious for bribery. I’m sure I’ve noted in an old answer related to Nigeria that we used to frequently get stopped on the road to get our “papers and fire extinguisher checked” only to be ultimately asked for money. This used to happen especially on holidays. It is a bad quality of the police force but when you look at it from another angle, you can’t blame the officers because they are severely underpaid in Nigeria.
Most times they really don’t extort you for it and instead ask rather kindly or they kind of act nice and that implies that they want some money. But it’s still kind of all bribery in the end.
I have livei in Nigeria long enough to witness it but this year, some unit of the police called the SARS has made headlines and is infamous for their unjustified halting of citizens and arrest, and often times being violent and needless to say they demand bribes, in this case extorting people for bribes (rather than “asking rather kindly” as I mentioned above). I do not know much about them but I do know that many people hate them. Many have complained of SARS officials violating their rights, and there have been campaigns for the government to put an end to this unit.
Other than that, from my experience I wouldn’t say Nigeria’s police force is the best when it comes to responding to emergencies. Many years ago, our church was robbed and the police arrived 120 minutes after being called. The station was 5 minutes away on a road that never has any traffic, and this was at night. Granted they did manage to catch some of the robbers, and this was many years ago so maybe things have changed. Things were always pretty peaceful in Ibadan during my last few years there so I thankfully never had to experience any incident that would let me know how well the police respond to crimes. |

From DM How do you handle it when your wife can’t stand your mother? If the wife cannot stand the mother it is the husband’s job to run interference. If the mother is causing problems, interfering with the relationship, and otherwise providing serious reasons for the wife to dislike the mother |

Romance › Re: Who Will You Choose Between Your Mother And Wife. by Hamachi(f): 6:47am On Jun 21, 2023 |
If you like your mother over your wife, there are two possible reasons:
1. You chose the wrong wife.
2. You fail to realize that Mummy won't grow old with you. Choosing a wife means choosing a person with whom to create an intertwined life.
Your mother sent you out into the world. To create a life for yourself. NOT to be her life partner!
Should your father have preferred your paternal grandmother (your dad's mother) over your mother?
No. That's unwell. How would you have felt growing up if Daddy had always preferred Granny above your own Mum? You'd think he was kind of a dick.
Marriage is the forging of a union. You become one with your spouse. Anyone who wants to become one with their parent is sick, and anyone who can't become one with their loving spouse is stunted.
If your wife turned out to be a horrible person, that's another story. It means either she's an amazing liar or you have bad taste. But your mother is not your life partner. You will not grow old with your mummy.
What's most important to remember is that, to Mummy, you'll always be a baby. She remembers you shitting in diapers. She will never be able to experience you fully as the man you are -- and she shouldn't be able to, OBVIOUSLY. If you choose Mummy over your life partner, you may as well be three years old.
I'm a mother. If your kid ever chooses you over a high quality partner, y'all have to try hard not to give your kid a big smack upside his head. If your kid can't fully bond with a life partner and is still childish enough to yearn for Mummy instead, y'll know you've failed miserably.
Oh. Last but not least. I find that this mistake is often related to the mistake of not realizing one's spouse is one's primary family member. Your spouse is your most important family member. FYI |

Jobs/Vacancies › How Sharing My Experience On Nairaland Gave Me 15,000 Naira by Hamachi(op): 6:05pm On Jun 17, 2023 |
From DM It all began with a post "My Experience today as an Applicant". I was frustrated after a fruitless day, and came on Nairaland to share my experience.
After the post I found a way to make myself fall asleep forcefully cry. Although the sleep was cut short by several vibrations from my phone, which annoyed me at first, as I was wondering why the phone kept buzzing every 2 minutes. I stood up and checked my phone to discover several mails from Nairaland asking to connect with different Nairaland users. I was perplexed and decided to check what was happening.
Alas, my ranting post had made it to front page and different people from all works of life have had the opportunity to click on it. Some found it amusing, and wanted let me to know personally, some wanted to help me out, some wanted to toast me because of writing a post Haba!, and some people wanted to exploit me embarassed. Just barely 24 hours after my post, I received a mail, stating how the person was touched by my story and wanted to encourage me at least to get a "pair of comfortable Interview Shoes", for my future endeavors. Immediately I received an alert and it was the same amount stated in the mail.
Yesterday I was disappointed in so many things, ranging from not being gainfully employed to being broke and frustrated, but today I am being encouraged not only in words but also in Kind from fellow Nairalanders. it gives me hope that this country will be great again and there is so many good things that can still come out of Nigeria. Which includes You and I.

Advision: Bro at this rate you're probably going to gross 1M, which puts it at about same level you typically gross but with a lower net due to higher cost of inputs.
Except your working less hours, it suggests increasing fares have also met less demand.
