You also need to examine what it is meant by submission, submission is for slaves or subjects not for a partner. Google the meaning of ‘submission'.



Kneeling down does not make sense and it does not make a woman, a good woman or wife. Culture or not, why would any balanced human want his/her mate to kneel down for him or her? Are you an idol? Perhaps you could also ask your mate to feed you palm oil with ekuru?

We are partners not junior and senior. We can leave the kneeling down part for elder ones because of age and sensibility even though it has not been proven that it makes the doer is respectful/more respectful. Furthermore, culture is dynamic, I bet the first Yoruba people would have found kneeling as a sign of respect as absurd. And you can always marry a grandma (since their generation were all saints) or probably a slave to do that for you. You can even ask her ask to lick the floor you walk on, mttcheew, radarada.

And yes, a man can beat up his wife for silly reasons, it can't just be justified. Some men are psychiatric cases, they would beat their wives probably cos a food is too salty, she looked at his somehow, or she was greeting one man in their neighborhood so she must be cheating and all sort of rubbish.

I think the only ish is the pressure on you to do well cos there are people who look up to you (you need to set the pace, give your younger ones something to look up to), you are expected to look after your siblings (as a small mum), sometimes take responsibility for their stupidity, like if a younger one was playing rough and got injured rather they could insult you for it, the question is where were you? Like you are supposed to be a sort of all-seeing demi- god.
And you are the experimental child, whatever you do or was done to you, that didn't work out, your younger ones will be able to avoid it.
And the first born is likely born when the parents are still struggling so might not get as much goodies at the early stage like the others might.

And God help the first born when there is loss of a parent or parents and the person still has young dependent siblings.
