He was favoured by APC for the trouble he caused PDP with a gubernatorial ticket which he won due to Buhari's popularity. How many Speakers can you still remember? How many Speakers went from Speaker to Governor? What he achieved in last election was due to Buhari. Simple

The "trouble he caused PDP" did a massive favour for the APC, hence in that way, he helped ensure APC's victory at the national level.

Besides, how can you say that he won the governorship election due to Buhari's popularity? Na wa o. Sokoto was never Buhari's stronghold per se. Tambuwwal won the election on his own strength and popularity, boosted by his local godfather's popularity (Wamakko).

Unless Buhari plans to rig massively, which shall be resisted with our very last drop of blood, he is certain to lose the following states that ensured his victory last time: Kwara, Benue, Taraba, Plateau, Kogi, Sokoto and Gombe.

He may also lose the likes of Nasarrawa, Niger and Adamawa, not to mention poorer performance than last time in Kaduna, Kano (Kwankwaso factor) and Jigawa.

He will also certainly NOT get the constitutional 25% minimum vote requirement throughout the South East and South South.

The old bastard will be stripped of his borrowed robes next year, by peace or bloodshed. The latter if he chooses to impose himself through rigging.
