Covenant has literarily never had a better yesterday as evidenced by its continuous rise through the years. Though founded in 2002 the university rose quickly to dominate the academic space leaving other private universities in the dust. As at 2018 Covenant research output on Scopus stands at 1100!

The University Of Ibadan towers above all else. The gap is ridiculous and I can tell you authoritatively that UI continues to widen the gap. As at 2018 UI has exceeded 1000 research publications - this is expected to surge UI's international rankings in subsequent years. The remarkable thing is UI is not the most funded Federal University, it sits second place to ABU in government funding. Yet this premier university continues to prove itself as the first and the best..

RESEARCH TRENDS IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES: ANALYSIS OF NUMBER OF PUBLICATIONS IN SCOPUS (2008-2017)

If you are in doubt of the trend of academic research in Nigerian universities, then you need to read our newly published paper to see "WHO IS WHO" in this sphere.

While some are progressive, some maintained status-quo, and others declining. So, locate your university and see where you stand.

In this paper, research trends in Nigerian Universities were analyzed based on the number of scholarly articles published in ten years (2008-2017). Out of the 165 NUC accredited universities in Nigeria, only 67 universities have research visibility in Scopus database. This shows that only 40.61% of the NUC accredited universities in Nigeria have research visibility in Scopus. The remaining 98 universities do not have any research output which bears their institutional affiliations indexed in Scopus within the selected 10-year range. The list of the 67 Scopus-indexed Nigerian universities comprises of 32 federal, 26 state, and 9 private universities. Whereas, there are 43 federal, 47 state, and 75 private universities in Nigeria as at the time of this study.


This implies that the research outputs of
11 federal universities (25.58%),
21 state universities (44.68%) and those of
66 private universities (88%) are not visible in Scopus.

I'm sure he never came to your house mandating you to believe in what he preaches. There are various school of thoughts in Christianity and the way people interprets scripture is quite different. Oyedepo, Olukoya etc don't believe in marriage vows and they have colleagues in Chrustianedom who believe in it, yet they manage and coexist with these differences. Don't turn yourself into a referee over doctrinal issues you will just go crazy.

What a theory... First it is poor peoples tithe, now it is SS governors money. And why exactly would they be giving Oyedepo ministry billions in funding?.. Tell me why, because when you get down to it most of these SS governors are not Pentecostals, rather Anglicans and the likes. So what would be the motivation for giving Oyedepo money.

There is no such thing as any governor giving churches properties. All properties owned by churches in Ogun state were paid for by billions of naira to traditional owners. It's a free economy and anyone can purchase anything. And the churches keep bringing popularity, businesses and taxes to their local areas and state govt. According to BBC, over $1million exchange is done during canannland Sunday services. Their schools and businesses within their campuses employ thousands of indigenes who still pay taxes to the state govt. The church housing estates are subjected to land use charge levies. So in many ways Ogun state benefits from Churches. And the relationship is worth millions of USD. I believe any sane Governor in Ogun state would help facilitate any required assistance needed by the church...

Yes, this can happen --though it depends on your definition of a few years. It will be very hard to displace UCT, Wits, Stellebosch..I've been to some of these places.

However, if Covenant continues this way, with the money they are pumping and their insight, they will reach top 3 is a few years. I think it will be relatively easier to displace Makarere and Kwazulunatal.. But UCT, Wits and Stellenbosch, e go hard in the short term

Yeah UCT, Stellenbosch and Wits would be difficult to displace. But CU would definitely displace Makerere this year...

They are actually planning to reduce fees...

covenant does a lot of other profitable things. 21 campus businesses probably yielding more income than schools fees - sadly it's not very enough in CU's case.. But universities generally generate fairly good amount of income aside fees...

Accommodation(optional): 150K per annum.

The PG school take applications all year. So check the website and see if the portal is open.

In theory NYSC is a requirement but I have seen ppl who do MSc without NYSC.

As for part time studies. Each department varies and you would have to be visit ur prospective department(s) to find out.

Hmm there seems to be restrictions on the number of foreign lecturers that public universities can recruit tho.. The ministry of interior should clarify... Then another issue is that the university must be ready to pay from IGR as I doubt FG would pay the salaries of foreign lecturers.

Covenant University Sets Aside N4 Billion For International Staff Recruitment.


Covenant University, Ota unveiled its plan to recruit foreign faculty during the past administration of vice chancellor CK Ayo. The international recruitment drive is in line with Times Higher Education's(A leading Consultant In Higher Education) requirement for world class universities to have a minimum of 19% of her staff and students as foreigners.

The University would engage international faculty as either full or visiting staff. In the case of visiting staff, the lecturers would be required to lecture fully in CU for one semester(3 months) - minimum. After which they can relocate to their home countries' universities of primary assignment. The appointment of foreign staff would be renewable each year.

The University has set aside initial of about 10 million USD to recruit foreign faculty. However, Covenant University would focus more on foreign faculty of Nigerian descent. This maintains a balance between the pan africanist mandate and a desire to have foreign faculty from leading research institutions. The recruitment drive would also help to bring the university into the expected 7:1 student - staff ratio which it expects to have realised by 2022. This would help Covenant surpass Times Higher Education assessment of top 200 universities in the world which are found to have a 11:1 staff - student ratio.


According to Times Higher Education, Internalisation is proof of a university's reputation. And reputation is a proxy to quality, therefore internationalization remains a critical part of any university ranking process. Apart from that, Internationalization helps universities to be grounds of cross fertilization of ideas and melting pot of culture.

Covenant University is also looking to increase the allotment of International students to 19% of total student population.
The University's strategy for this is to use the existent infrastructure of her proprietor base in several African countries to aid increasing foreign recruitment of students.



In addition to this, the university would be translating to a major center for post graduate education with an overall 2:1 student population in favour of post graduate students.

The attribute of a world class university is that it must have a diverse pull of lecturers from different parts of the world. Go to Tshwanne university of Technology South Africa and see several Nigerians teaching there. Wole Soyinka holds a job at University Of Johannesburg.

Last year both Covenant and UI where both poorly ranked on Times Higher Education index for internationalization because they didn't have sufficient foreign staff and students, though they had a commendable number of joint research projects with foreign varsities...

So Covenant anticipated this issue and has set aside about 3 billion naira(10 million USD) as far back as 2014 to purposely recruit foreign staff.


As per your question, the lecturers will stay a minimum of 3 months in CU(one semester), after which they would return to other institutions every year.

Awesome... The university is working towards having 19% of all of her staff as foreign(particularly of Nigerian Origin).

According to the Red Cross, Winners was the largest donor of relief materials during the Ikeja bomb blast.
Today the church has spent over 1 billion naira on educational scholarships making one of the largest indigenous funder of education.

I can only imagine the tremendous unseen works the church continues to undertake in remote places across Africa.

Oyedepo distributes relief materials to IDPs

Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide (LFC) has donated relief materials worth millions of naira to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri.

Represented by State Pastor in-charge of Maiduguri, Pastor Victor Samaila, Oyedepo who last visited Maiduguri in May, 2018, said the gesture was part of the church’s effort to reach out to displaced persons across the country.

He said it was incumbent on all well meaning citizens to make efforts to bring succour to the displaced persons and the church decided to evolve a programme that would cover all IDPs across the country.

“Here in Maiduguri we had gone to four displaced camps and this is fifth one. So far we have reached out to 2,500 households which translates to about 15,000 individuals.

We have distributed food and non-food items such as beans, milets, maize, vegetable oils, salt, maggi as well as clothes and shoes,” he said.

The Pastor urged displaced persons to continue praying for troops and Nigeria, saying the suffering is overwheming.

“I will like to make an appeal to the well meaning Nigerians and corporate organizations to support the IDPs especially in Borno, government can’t do it alone. But as you can see, people are sufferring and much needs to be done.

The Camp Manager of State Emergency Management Agency, Khaud Mohammed, thanked the church for the donation and warned the beneficiaries not to sell the materials given to them.

“We are thankful to Living Faith Church. The quality of materials they distributed is one the best I have seen in this camp, I hope they will sustain this,” Mohammmed said.
