Christianity EtcBishop Oyedepo: "African Leaders Are Intellectually Bankrupt" by HigherEd(op): 4:05pm On Apr 20, 2019
Founder, Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has berated African leaders, saying that they lack character, capacity and courage, three virtues he said they must have to move the black continent out of the woods.

Oyedepo, who delivered a keynote address during Covenant University’s 20th inaugural lecture at the university premises on Thursday, also noted that unlike their western counterparts, African leaders do not build institutions that would outlive them.

The lecture delivered by Jonathan Aremu, a professor of International Economics Relations at CU, was themed: ‘Sequencing and negotiating Nigeria’s regional and international trade agreements.’

The fiery cleric was making allusion to Aremu’s lecture where he (Aremu) bemoaned Nigeria’s indifference and lack of will power in drafting effective trade policies and negotiations with bodies such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Environmental Protection Agency (EFA) and African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), among others.

The development, Aremu argued, has left the nation unable to articulate her interest among the aforementioned bodies.

Oyedepo, however, blamed the situation on Nigerian government’s lack of foresight and its inability to identify opportunities that would benefit the led.

He said: “It is unfortunate that many of our leaders are intellectually bankrupt.

“When confronted with some of these beautiful initiatives, it is very shameful that they often don’t know the meaning. And if they don’t know the meaning, how will they go about implementation?”

“I have often said it that our leaders lack three Cs-capacity, courage and character.

“Where is the capacity when you are bereft of intellect required of a leader? Where is the courage when you don’t have the political will to follow through with policies that will improve governance? And where is the character when all they are thinking is how to win election as many times as possible while ignoring developmental initiatives?”

Oyedepo said the leadership should take a cue from an institution like Harvard University which has outlived the founder for centuries.

If Harvard were to be in Nigeria, it would have been in ruins in less than two decades, the cleric noted.

Nonetheless, Oyedepo said not only leaders are culpable, noting that the led are as much guilty for looking the other way for too long.

This, according to him, is the reason the Covenant University platform was conceived to point out the ills in governance while also recommending solutions to them.

Earlier in his lecture, Aremu lamented that Nigeria has not been forthcoming with effective trade policies and negotiations.

He said: “Trade negotiations remain one of the most complex, challenging, and sometimes controversial issues in contemporary trade policy.

“This is more serious for Nigeria which has no current trade policy. The administrative burden of handling and negotiating trade policy is a serious concern.

“Even as at now, the country still faces technical constraints on the negotiations of multiple agreements that will serve her trade interest.

“Confronted with generally weak negotiating, regulatory and implementation capacities, the country is handicapped in her ability to engage meaningfully in all these negotiations.”

EducationRe: Overpopulation Is A Hoax- The Whole World Population Can Fit Into Nigeria by HigherEd: 12:15pm On Apr 20, 2019
flashlink:
All those don't remotely contribute to overpopulation; and as for resources, the resources in Nigeria is more than enough to feed over 2billion people when properly managed and used in production of other amenities to make life easier.
The 55% of unused land could be scattered across different locations in the country which could be used for farmlands, industries and so many other things; all that is needed are prudent leaders that plan well
Overpopulation is mostly an economic concept. What farms would those 7 billion farm? what water would they drink? They would put so much pressure on everything that everything would die out.
EducationRe: Lady Denied Admission By Covenant Graduates With First Class In UK by HigherEd:
I have learnt long ago never to be discouraged by a denial. We humans are largely myopic, we cry over delays and denials but God sees the entire picture.

The Google brothers once attempted to sell Google to Yahoo at $1 million. But when they got to present at Yahoo they left disappointed as Yahoo mgt was not interested. Today Google has outpaced yahoo. Some even say Google has kicked Yahoo into oblivion.

When Stanford jnr died, his father wanted to honour him with a memorial building at Harvard university but he was denied. That drove him to establish the Leeland Stanford Junior University AKA Stanford University founded on entrepreneurship education.
(Disclaimer: there's a lot of controversy on this story.)

Today Stanford, though hundreds of years younger is of equal prestige as Harvard. It's alumni community is wealthier than many nations of the earth and the second highest producer of billionaires in the world. Second only to Harvard. It's not an Ivy league but has surpassed most ivy leagues - Yale, Cornell, Princeton etc.

I know people who were tormented after relationship breakups. Today, they cringe at the thought that they could have ended up with those persons.

While I refuse to say Covenant was a lesser door, studying in the UK is definitely an higher door.

People should always learn to accept denials in hope of something better. If you did your best and were denied then something better is coming!

The take away isn't about the rules per se but the obsession in 21st century.

What's even bad in alcohol? Is it a sin?
If the answer is in the affirmative, then by what standards?
What is bad in a drink that dulls your senses or ability to reason?

Do you know how many deaths a year are caused by drunk driving?

Do you know how many women have been battered, molested because of drunk men?

Stanford university is one of the top 5 universities in the world yet it has one of the highest community rape cases in the USA. The rape cases are traceable to club partying and excessive alcoholism.

So as a Christian University do you expect they'd want such nonsense on their campus?

I hate too much church ppl
Its more ridiculous to think a Church university would allow you take Alcohol on its campus... Even the Christian varsities in USA would expel you for this... Well the boy is now in Uniport. He should have just gone to Uniport in the first place.

Try drinking Alcohol in Oral Roberts Uni, USA or Liberty University USA and see them show you the way out...

The problem with Nigeria is that too many people are doing what they shouldn't be doing. That's why we are not moving forward.
The people that should be the next Soyinka or Chinua Achebe are wasting away in a medical school somewhere.

Our society is too streamlined by defining brilliance by academics. Personally, I don't believe anybody is brilliant. I only believe people are brilliant at what they were intended to do. So I know that when you fail at something you have no interest at, it could mean that you were doing something you weren't made to do...

Einstein is a brilliant scientist but he can never be as brilliant as Messi on the field of football. To each its own, the bird flies, the fish swims. Each does what they are meant to do with dexterity.

I repeat there is no dull person anywhere. If you are failing it is either you are doing it wrongly, not diligent enough or was never meant to do it in the first place. Just find your craft and master it and you won't have to have unexpected ejacs cheesy

Canaancity is a bit above 8,000 hectares which is 80 Km2. Ikeja is 49km2. I may be wrong if Google information about Ikeja Land size is wrong. But as I checked ikeja's land size is 49km2.

Anyone with contrary information can share. But for now I stand with my assertion.

Christianity EtcBishop David Oyedepo Wins With Canaan City Estate - Thisday by HigherEd(op): 10:31am On Apr 16, 2019
It is all well and good to minister to people’s souls, but without a roof over their heads, clothes on their bodies and food in their stomachs, the sheep will assuredly stray from the flock. Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel is cognizant of this truth that escapes the mind of other men of God. Hence he always incorporates community schemes into his broader mission of soul winning.

The stupendously rich pastor who presides over one of the biggest congregations in the southern hemisphere is a maverick of no mean repute who has invested far and wide and boasts perhaps the biggest business portfolio in the body of Christ. While it is undeniable that the Overlord of Canaanland attracts wealth by the lorry load, a lesser acknowledged fact is how every scheme he engages in is carried out with the benefit of his burgeoning congregation in mind.

And now the charismatic and explosive man of God is at it again. The dream of a gigantic housing estate-cum-mini city which was floated few years back has materialized. The huge complex of colourful homes and first-rate amenities is said to comprise up to 15 000 residences, ranging from a single bedroom apartment to multi-bedroom mansions.

The best part of the humongous superestate dubbed Canaan City Estate is its self-sustaining model. In a move comparable to the famed Eko Atlantic project, it will have its own markets, parks and gardens, sports centres, pipe-borne water system, police department, fire and medical services, and power generation. Everything will be connected together by a network of fine roads that look like they were transplanted straight from a First-World country.

It is no news that when he founded Covenant and Landmark universities, two of the best private schools in the country, he decreed preferential treatment for members of his church when it comes to admissions. It is more of the same with the current project. According to those in the know, the Canaanland Housing project is adopting a strict “Church Members First” policy before outsiders are considered.

With repayment mortgages of up to 30 years on offer for the houses which are up for sale at mouth-watering prices, the Canaan City Estate has become a hot cake among property lovers who are rushing to buy before the prices balloon out of pocket range.

EducationNUC Processing 303 Applications For Private Universities by HigherEd(op):
The Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof Abubakar Rasheed, has disclosed that the commission is currently processing 303 applications for the establishment of more private universities in the country.

Prof Rasheed disclosed this at a two-day National Summit on Private Universities with the theme “Private University Education Delivery in Nigeria: Challenges and Opportunities.”

He said the applications were received from group of individuals, corporate and faith-based organizations across the country.

He said the summit was aimed at supporting Nigerian government’s effort at developing academic, institutional and executive capacities within the higher education sub-sector, to enable it compete effectively and be relevant in an increasingly knowledge-driven economy.

According to him the commission is working with the National Assembly to review the guidelines for the establishment of private varsities, saying, it is no longer realistic to say a university must be built in a 100 hectares of land.

He however expressed dissatisfaction on inflation of unhealthy parallel grades by private universities.

He noted that in spite of the challenges they have done well in assisting government in providing university education.

Also speaking, the Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede said some private universities have fallen short of expectation.

The minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Arc Sonny Echono, stated that the private universities are faced with numerous challenges of inadequate funding, proprietor influence, staffing and students’ admission quota among others.

He said there is need to do more to attract best brains in the world to come and teach in Nigerian varsities as well as foreign students as well.

more business center
At this point if Oyedepo needs more money he would buy an Oil well or create an Airline, not buying a a plot of land in Ibarapa, Oyo state where people earn $2 a day or establish a church in Kogi that would be writing the church in six months for a replacement of their generator that was destroyed by torrential rainfall. Mind you, If Oyedepo established any business he has millions of loyal customers willing to buy...

We know how hinterlands ministries are - they are our babies and we would nurture them till they grow. The reason why we create them is to preach Jesus and His Ordinance, expand Christianedom in numbers and influence and certainly not to steal their income.

Now the living faith church is rich enough that it could have purchased a distressed Diamond bank if it wanted to. The 500 Million naira the Living Faith granted widows some time ago can consume the tithe and offerings of these 1000 churches sited in the hinterlands in the next five years. To say Oyedepo who has refused to establish churches in Lagos would site 1000 churches in rural areas for the sake of profit is an insult on your intelligence.
