LordReed:
Yes, that is the point. You don't need an afterlife to either create something of value or accept that something has value.

You seem to be eager leap into unjustified conclusions. So what if men live and die how does that subtract from the fact that one is alive and must live? How does the cycle of life and death mean that this world has no end? You are just making non-sequiturs here.

Is that what you are doing, arguing for an afterlife? Then you are going about it the wrong way.

Because I realize I will not get a second chance to live and do any of the things I missed. Mistakes take on a really frightening dimension because I won't have a second chance to live and avoid them. It puts a lot of things into a perspective that means everything has weight if I must live this life to the fullest of my capacity.
The statement about life being a cycle was just a mere implication of the immediate previous statement. It has nothing to do with the main argument itself.

You really haven't answered my question. People avoid mistakes so it won't have any effect on a future course of event. That depicts a tendency of continuity. In the case of death, according to you, there's no continuity. So based on this belief, why is it that you don't want to make the mistake of living the one life you have not doing the things you love? If you don't have a second life which would be impacted by the life you live here, what importance is there to not want to make those mistakes?

If we have a better life or duplicate life, why not end all the struggles and pains of daily survival and go and enjoy forever? Why not strap a bomb to your chest and blow yourselves and others into smithereens, as you will wake up in paradise? You that is living in a face me I face you apartment could even drink sniper and see your double self wake living in a gold mansion.

If the afterlife is so appealing, I wonder why people are so afraid of death.
The afterlife is not a duplicate of this life. It is not a "second chance" , but rather an aftereffect of this life. The belief that you're going to give account of the life you live here should make you value it. Therefore, the afterlife is not in itself appealing. Those who take their lives;

1. Don't believe in the existence of an afterlife.

OR

2. Have a misconceived idea of what the afterlife is about.

That is why we need to discover our individual purposes of existence and fulfil it. Most people are afraid of dying (including those who believe in the afterlife and those who don't). This means that there is something within our subconscious minds that signals the existence of an eternal world which is determined by the kind of life we live here. This should make an atheist reconsider his stance on the existence of God and who He really is.

it seems u didn't understand him bru. He is said, this is the only life we hav and do everything do survive. Don't dream there's life after death as some claims. If u r passing through difficult time in ur life, have hope and work hard to change that condition. Suicide is not the answer to solving life challenges. I call those people weak and stupid to take ur life because u r challenged today. Do u knw wat tomorrow brings? When there's life there's hope. Go to prison and learn. There were people that were condemned 2 dead by hanging and other lifers( life jail) but later government favours them by granting them amnesty and they r out of the place and they live happily. No condition should make a man commit suicide. I don't support @ all
I understood him perfectly. He spoke from the premise of an atheist, and I used his own words against him. Please do well to read the other comments that followed mine.

Was this human also created in God`s image like my religious people will say.

God knew he was going to be a rapist before he was conceived.
Na wa oo! People blame God for everything now. Even when it's clear that we're all responsible for the choices we make. Does being a rapist define his entire life? Is raping someone the only thing he has done? Aren't there other good things he has done? God has His reasons for creating Him, whether or not he knew he was going to be a rapist. It's not up to you to question Him. Being a rapist is bad, and I feel sad for the victim, but are you without any wrong?

Jeff Bezos with all his billions cannot buy the Mona Lisa. What benefit does the Mona Lisa serve that makes it worth so much despite it being just an oil painting on canvas that has no afterlife value? If you can figure that out then you'll have your answer.

I understand you more than you think, I just find your argument extremely flawed.
Well, I'm not sure. Maybe it's because it's arguably LDVC's best painting, and it can't be duplicated. It was painted with just an oil on a wood panel. Now that's something you don't get to see everyday. So I guess it serves as an inspiration for other painters, it "speaks" to painters in a language only them can understand. Therefore, it's a LDVC's legacy which has lived and will continue to live on for ages -- that's the value it upholds.

Your point may be that he didn't do all those things because he thought of an afterlife, he did it because of his natural passion for it. He probably didn't even believe in the afterlife lol. Now my question is, would it have made any difference if he chose not to paint? I mean what value did his paintings fetch HIM in the end? He's dead right now and just dust. He doesn't even know anything about his paintings.

Those who have been inspired by his paintings from his time up until our generation have died and will still die, so what difference would it all make if in the end they all won't give account of their lives? Going by this, everything then is just a cycle (suggesting that this world has no end). Then the inexistence of an afterlife should make me care pretty less how I live my life here.

Technically, if I knew that something wouldn't have any ultimate effect on my being, then even if it's the only thing I get to do, it doesn't make any difference whether I choose to do it or not.

You find my argument extremely flawed because you refuse to see things from a dimension that has the possibility to support the existence of an afterlife.

Let me throw a general question to you: Why exactly do you value the fact that you have only one life to live?

It's more reason why you should make the best use of the limited time we have. I don't think it'll be good to say that everyone should just commit suicide.
I am simply using their words against them. I'm not encouraging anyone to commit suicide. Please understand.

It makes all the difference to you as the alive human. You are saying since this thing you have is only one and you'll never get another throw it away, how does that make sense to you? I have only one thing so waste it? That is so arse backwards, I find it hard to imagine why it sounds intelligent to you. That there is no afterlife so it is of no consequence since it doesn't factor into anything you do with your life, it doesn't mean you should throw away the one life you get. By any intelligent sense having only one of an irreplaceable thing makes it more valuable. There is only one original Mona Lisa painting and it has the highest insurance value of any painting but according to your "logic" it should be used as toilet paper because it is only one.
Yes, and if you value something, it means that it will serve a great purpose for you in the future. In that case, I'd like to ask: Why exactly do you value this life? How would it benefit you in the end if you live it to the fullest? It's either you just don't get my point or you're running away from something.

There is something about the yoruba culture that made one to give respects to inlaw regardless of their age and it is killing.
Whatever that is, it doesn't make sense lol. If that's the case, then you should start prostrating for her whenever you greet her. Isn't that a sign of respect too in the Yoruba culture? Respect has various meanings sir. Just be humble!
Family › Re: How Do You Call Relate With Your Wife's Elder Sister. by Humanoid01(m): 11:00pm On May 20, 2020
You are older than her, why then should you add a title to her name before you call her? Whether she's your wife's elder sister, it doesn't change that fact. She should be the one addressing you as "brother" lol. Although I don't place much attention on those titles, a name is just a name.

She posted that picture and couldn't believe that the person who was all smiles just yesterday could go ahead and kill himself d next day.
Wow! You see? No one could have known what was wrong with him. No one knew what he was nurturing because he was probably almost always like that. That is so sad.

No. Atheist think opposite. Since this is the only life we have you have to cherish it and not waste it.

It is theists, like the banker, that will kill themselves hoping that "grace" will save them. grin

Anyone can commit suicide by the way. It has nothing to do with belief or disbelief
Lol do you know why exactly you do the things you do? Like cherishing and not wasting this life? Why exactly do you not want to waste it?
Crime › Re: Young Banker Commits Suicide In Lagos (photo) by Humanoid01(m): 10:38pm On May 20, 2020
LordReed:
It does perfectly. You have something of value but because it is only one you say throw it away, there's only one.
No, it doesn't. At all.

If there's no afterlife, then it doesn't make much difference if you die. If you're going to be unconscious forever, and there won't be an aftereffect of the life you live here, then why bother about your life here? Why do you still have the desire to live? You got nothing to lose, yeah?

If you throw away your clothes because that's all you've got to wear (which doesn't make any sense), you'll have something to lose, which leaves you with nothing. It makes so much difference. So your analogy doesn't fit.
