ProgrammingRe: Help with Javascript headache by Hunter(m): 12:11am On Jun 07, 2005
personally I would see if your host is compatable with PHP as it allows alot more feature rich websites, and there alot of pre written scripts people have written to help get a good website.

You can find some good scripts for both java and PHP and several other languages at http://www.hotscripts.com/

There are far more titles available for pocket pc than java and usually these programs are of a much higher standard.
ComputersRe: Highest download rate possible? by Hunter(m): 12:07am On Jun 07, 2005
Just to clarify things abit files are usually measured in kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes etc where as transfer speed is measured in kilobits, megabits, gigabits, terabits. To find out the true speed you are copying at just devide the kilobit, megabit, gigagbit, terabit by 8 and you'll get the true speed. smiley

To go from megabytes to kilobytes times it by 1024 (1024 is the exact measurement, 1024 bytes = a kilobyte, 1024 kilobytes = a megabyte)

So I have a 10 megabit connection with 128 kilobit uplink, a real pain because of mixed numbers!
so we times the 10 by 1024 and we get 10240 kilobits per second and 128 kilobit uplink.
Now this is no-good for us either because what website measures in bit's per second (BPS) so we devide it by 8 to find out the MAX speed you can transfer at and the answer comes out to 1280 kilobytes per second, and if you want to make it even easier to read devide it by 1024 to find the megabytes per second.

You should end up with an answer of 1.25.

Obviously due to other factors you will never the speed advertised, due to things like packet overhead, congestion etc.

Anyways if anything needs clarifying don't hesitate to ask.

Surely both should be trying to contribute to the family earnings?

considering microsoft office premimum (the ones corperations buy) is about $1000 (N100000) for us to purchase you can see why piracy is rife.

As quite a few members know my father works for Mobil in Nigeria.

Recently he has been having troubles with a certain person (a contractor) that is trying to extort money from Mobil by saying he has not been paid for three months which is certainly not the case (he is also asking for far more money than the contract was for)

Unfortunately my father has been on the receiving end of this stick and has had been abused by this person and has been threatened by him (that he won't be safe at work, on the way to work at home etc) and even went as far to try and stop my father getting up out of his chair so that he could hold him hostage, he left after this for reasons unknown at this stage.

This guy didn't even have a valid pass to be on the premises so that tells you how pathetic Mobil's security is , so what is the best way of dealing with this?

ComputersRe: The VSAT Internet Business is Doomed? by Hunter(m): 10:21am On Jun 02, 2005
Certainly good news. Lays the ground work for a decent Internet connection in homes in a few years.

I personally predict that a technology like WiMAX (the successor to Wi-Fi) with its extended ranges would be extremely good in Nigeria, cost effective, and non reliant on land lines (unlike xDSL technologies, cable - DOCSIS - etc.)

TravelRe: Visa Lottery: Modern Day Slavery? by Hunter(m): 11:38am On Jun 01, 2005
Australia does not have a visa lottery policy as it's quite frankly a crappy system, we have tight regulations on our immigration because 1) lots of people over stay there visa's 2) due to our location if we opened up our doors we would have alot of jobs taken by asian workers leaving no work for us.

you can check out Australia's immigration site at http://www.immi.gov.au/

also New Zealand has very open visa policy's compared to most countries especially us.

people do it because it's portable, nothing sucks more than a long plane trip with nothing to do (flying from here to nigeria allows me to see every movie emirates offers and some twice)

Final Fantasy 7 was the best in the series as well I though, and I just thought of another game I really like No-One-lives-forever 1 and 2.

i'll think up some more later smiley
