WebmastersRe: Cost of Designing & Hosting a Web Portal by Hunter(m): 4:49am On Jul 24, 2005
There are many great open source portal's as well (I use phpnuke for my site) The real cost comes in at hosting, depending in traffic it can skyrocket to several hundered dollars a month (even thousands)
ComputersRe: Opera Web Browser by Hunter(m): 4:47am On Jul 24, 2005

Nairaland GeneralRe: Chatting on Nairaland? by Hunter(m): 11:34am On Jul 22, 2005
I guess it all depends on the community sad
Nairaland GeneralRe: Chatting on Nairaland? by Hunter(m): 3:13am On Jul 21, 2005
Nairaland is welcome to have an IRC chat room on a server that i own co-run, so users can have a real time chat (naturally all for free etc)

I don't really feel that having a chat room lowers forum quality at all or makes less traffic, two sites I am quite active on (and even my own) have active IRC communities and active sites.

IRC can me monetized if you wish by providing a web client that has ad's delivered to the user (or they can download the software but that isn't pratical at schools etc)
Technology MarketRe: Can a TV used in UK work in Nigeria? by Hunter(m): 5:42am On Jul 20, 2005
I extrememly strongly suggest that you get a surge protector and or a UPS, nothing kills electronics quicker than a jolt of electric current, and a loss of power in a movie would result in a bit of an anti climax!
Nairaland GeneralRe: Nairaland Executives [volunteer] by Hunter(m): 5:39am On Jul 20, 2005
Yes, I am still interested in helping, let me know if I am needed and what for. Then we can go from there smiley

Christianity EtcRe: Jehovah's Witnesses in Here? by Hunter(m): 1:51am On Jul 17, 2005
I don't really think that it is appropiate to try and get people to be a jehova's witness in a forum...
Technology MarketRe: Can a TV used in UK work in Nigeria? by Hunter(m): 8:52am On Jul 16, 2005
SCART isn't really in wide use anyway because the cables were a rip off
Technology MarketRe: Can a TV used in UK work in Nigeria? by Hunter(m): 2:24am On Jul 16, 2005
Nigeria even uses the same adapator as the UK so no adaptors are needed smiley

Though I suggest getting some sort of surge protector sent as well to prevent damage to your TV from cruddy mains power
CareerRe: Cisco Certification Advice, Materials by Hunter(m): 9:40am On Jul 15, 2005

Btw beleive me you will not be able to pass the certifcation without some kind of formal training, reading it out of a book just won't work.
CareerRe: Cisco Certification Advice, Materials by Hunter(m): 9:09am On Jul 15, 2005
I am in the final semester of CCNA, but I hope you have actual access to a router and switch configuration else life is going to be tough and put bluntly I do not think it is possible to get anywhere without one.

If you have any questions I can help you if you need.
PhonesRe: Motorola A1000 in Nigeria by Hunter(m): 11:19am On Jul 14, 2005

SportsRe: Surfing in Nigeria by Hunter(m): 1:38am On Jul 10, 2005
the beach in eket isn't full of any of those things, but appararantly it has a nasty rip tide.
ComputersRe: Microsoft Windows Vista (formerly "Longhorn") by Hunter(m): 1:57pm On Jul 07, 2005
which build were you using? 5048 isn't very good compared to 4074 because they took stuff out when they switched code bases.
Nairaland GeneralRe: How Did You Discover Nairaland? by Hunter(m): 3:08pm On Jun 24, 2005

ComputersRe: Linux or Windows Operating System? by Hunter(m): 2:40am On Jun 18, 2005
My ISP mirrors linux distro's (all of the popular ones and some of the lesser ones (you can request them if there not there and there usually they're by the end of the day)) Haven't had a corrupt download yet from it and I usually get 800 kilobytes a second while downloading smiley
ComputersRe: Linux or Windows Operating System? by Hunter(m): 11:19am On Jun 17, 2005
If your lucky you might be able to find some magazines that have come from abroad that have a linux distrobution on the cover cd/dvd smiley
ComputersRe: I need a Internet connection by Hunter(m): 11:16am On Jun 16, 2005
it would be far cheaper for you to host the actual site in a country with much higher bandwidth the nigeria and be more reliable and faster. You can still do intranet stuff if you setup a VPN however usually a trained professional is best at setting up large scale intranets.
ComputersRe: How many Computers in Nigeria? by Hunter(m): 11:13am On Jun 16, 2005
no you are right dell don't actually make components, usually they use specially customized parts though
ComputersRe: Linux or Windows Operating System? by Hunter(m): 11:12am On Jun 16, 2005
Thats because Linux is free (well the distrobutions that I like)

Debian is the best smiley
ComputersRe: Linux or Windows Operating System? by Hunter(m): 7:32am On Jun 16, 2005
Linux is still a little unpolished for main stream use but given time it has possiblities for serious market share. I run linux on servers (except when I need ms sql (it's a VB thing) and for domain controller)
ComputersRe: My PC keeps asking me to get Windows Update! by Hunter(m): 8:03am On Jun 11, 2005
jogego:
Broser exploits? Matey, are you still using IE? I havent used IE for going on close to 4 or 5 years now. Opera, Mozilla and lately Firefox are much better security wise. And seems you still are going on about statistics. I definitely know you dont follow tech news closely. If you did, the problesm caused by SP2 were well documented in most IT magazines, PCW, Pcmag, PCWorld all had stories on it. Some went as far a recommending people not to use it.
bad news on the mozilla suite front with the return of the frame injection attack :/
