ComputersRe: Skype, "free Internet telephony that just works". by Hunter(m): 7:41am On May 31, 2005
Thing is VOIP traffic is no different to say you copying a picture from a website or downloading a picture, at a hardware layer it's all the same thing (1 and 0's) so I see no reason why it should take any time if all to get it legalized.
GamingRe: Website Where I Can Play Interesting Games? by Hunter(m): 8:42am On May 30, 2005

PhonesRe: Starcomms' Credit-Eating Fraud by Hunter(m): 11:33pm On May 27, 2005
It's common practice in the mobile industary to keep a high turn over of customers and to not exhaust all the numbers. I imagine this is no different, usually however you get a longer period of time to spend your credit (I think the shortest carrier here it lasts for 30 days)
Music/RadioRe: MP3 Players in Nigeria by Hunter(m): 11:14am On May 27, 2005
nope i bought mine because it was the best available option smiley
One item that does it all usually doesn't do it all and has a single point of failure, for instance say i bought a phone with mp3 playback and the phone died where does that leave me?
Nairaland GeneralRe: Complaints by Hunter(m): 6:53am On May 27, 2005

Nairaland GeneralRe: How Do We Celebrate the 1000th Member? by Hunter(m): 6:51am On May 27, 2005

Congratulations Seun grin
Music/RadioRe: MP3 Players in Nigeria by Hunter(m): 6:50am On May 27, 2005
They outsource the construction to china, cheap labour...

I forgot to mention that my mate has had to send his zen back three times (twice due to it locking up constantly and one where the remote just stopped working)
sad
ComputersRe: My PC keeps asking me to get Windows Update! by Hunter(m): 7:12am On May 26, 2005
Thats a really bad idea Farriel, if you leave your computer insecure you open your self up to a whole wave of identity fraud, hacking, slowed down use etc.

If you really are that worried about it run Linux.
ComputersRe: Naira Sign (₦) On A Keyboard? by Hunter(op): 11:40am On May 25, 2005

ComputersNaira Sign (₦) On A Keyboard? by Hunter(op): 7:30am On May 25, 2005
Is the Naira symbol ₦ on a Keyboard?

I'm curious about this, but do keyboards purchased in Nigeria have the proper symbol for Naira like a $ symbol?
PhonesRe: Investment in telecoms sector hits $8b by Hunter(m): 7:29am On May 25, 2005
For a country the size of nigeria thats not that much so alot more money can be made smiley

For instance telstra (main aussie telco) is partly (51%) owned by the government who wants to sell and it is currently valued at a price of just over 36 billion dollars, which is a lot of money for not even a whole company.
Add that to the fafct they share top spot with another company (optus) worth similar values combined with alot of other providors (smaller but still large) you can see just how much money can be made off it smiley (also we have a population of 20 million)
So perhaps if everything goes well they can make a lot of money off telecommunications and see that it can be profitable which will eventually bring reliable infastructure in (hopefully) smiley
Music/RadioRe: MP3 Players in Nigeria by Hunter(m): 7:10am On May 25, 2005
I have an apple ipod that I love (paid AUD $450 for it 8 months ago) and I use it far more than I use my pocket pc. A few of my mates have the ipod mini's and they seem good too. Certainatly makes the boring periods at school fly by (in perticular maths which I hate, much to the disgust of my maths teacher I don't really care about 7 different ways about solving, the moddeling (drawing) a cubic equation)) cheesy

I forgot to mention one of my friends has a creative zen touch and it is roughly twice as thick as my ipod so keep that in mind...
TravelRe: Where have you been in Nigeria? by Hunter(m): 10:54pm On May 23, 2005

RomanceRe: My Fiancee Left Me for 9 Months and Won't Tell Me Why. by Hunter(m): 10:53pm On May 23, 2005
Perhaps she is embarrased because she was dating another man or something along those lines cry
TV/MoviesRe: Jerry Springer Show on DSTV by Hunter(m): 10:48pm On May 23, 2005
We all know that TV ratings means nothing, I thought Jerrry Springer was censored over the nude bits with beeping on the swearing (we all know that it really doesn't stop you knowing what they said)

Jerry is funny for a laugh but not usually what you would call healthy viewing...
TravelRe: Where have you been in Nigeria? by Hunter(m): 1:32pm On May 23, 2005
I have been to Lagos and Eket that's all, Eket beach doesn't look safe to swim in though (looks like a few rips) :/
EducationRe: WAEC Examination Leakage Scandal by Hunter(m): 12:44am On May 22, 2005
In our system if it's found the paper has been compromized they will just fail everyone at the school for that exam :/
EducationRe: WAEC Examination Leakage Scandal by Hunter(m): 10:18pm On May 19, 2005
Our exam's don't have a name but the peice of paper at the end is your VCE certificate, which is managed by our state (victoria in this case) new south wales and other states have there own certificate at the end but the curriculm is fairly similar across states.

What sort of say topic would some say find on a math's one?

For instance on ours it's about algebra so it's on linear equations, quadratic's, cubic's, calcus (sp?) etc
TV/MoviesRe: i just love star wars!!! dont you? by Hunter(m): 10:14pm On May 19, 2005
It's apparantly already leaked on to the internet, so if your prepared to wait a while, while it downloads i suppose you could get it that way grin
PhonesRe: Nokia 9300 & 9500 Communicators Review by Hunter(m): 1:33pm On May 19, 2005
as for bluetooth depending how lucky you are you can usually get outside (bluetooth is really cool at school, you turn it on and browse for phones/computers etc and you usually get at least a page of devices on my phone tongue )

through walls etc i would give it a range of about 30 metres though give or take depending on the devices
EducationRe: WAEC Examination Leakage Scandal by Hunter(m): 1:31pm On May 19, 2005
just out of curiousity what's involved in these tests (say even an example question) just so I can get an idea of what sort of things are being cheated on.
TV/MoviesRe: i just love star wars!!! dont you? by Hunter(m): 1:29pm On May 19, 2005
yeah i think there pretty good, didn't dare try and go to the cinema's today to see it (would of been packed out with super nerd people dressed up in costumes tongue )
EducationRe: WAEC Examination Leakage Scandal by Hunter(m): 8:16am On May 19, 2005
This is a shame for the many hardworking nigerian's that play by the rules, in the end it just hurts to people cheating as there certificate will be worth nothing.
GamingRe: Playstation 3 by Hunter(op): 12:33pm On May 18, 2005

Yeah, I noticed that at the airport actually all the machines were running windows xp which is normally very costly to purchase for so many machines.
GamingRe: PC or Console For Game? by Hunter(m): 10:08pm On May 17, 2005
I prefer playing games on a computer because of the keyboard and mouse smiley

Also you tend to get much more detailed games on pc (and a much much larger selection)
BusinessRe: Crude Oil: A Blessing To Nigeria or a Curse? by Hunter(m): 11:32am On May 17, 2005
China has some oil i do beleive cry

I think it's a blessing in some ways and a curse in others, Nigeria was a country that did not progess in such a way as other nations during the middle ages that has hampered overall development ever since. Oil money can help fix up everything that just hasn't been done previously.

Unfortnatly it has also been a curse for Nigeria, corruption has meant that almost none of the money the money earned has even had effects on Nigerians, and the oil isn't going to be there forever either.

I think an excellent example is the United Arab Emirates, country of similar ways to nigeria before the discovery of oil but 30 years later there now a first world country comparable to many westernized culturals with there own distinct way of life.
Oil money has definatly improved the way of life for everyone there including just everyday people.

/end rant wink
GamingPlaystation 3 by Hunter(op): 8:34am On May 17, 2005
Well this might be of interest to some people (or then again it might not be wink )

Pictures of sony's brand new console are now available on the net for us all to compare to the xbox 360.
Technologically it is suppose to offer similar quality graphics (hard to decide till they both come out) but using a different approach to be more efficent.

anyways pictures can be found here
