Car TalkRe: Motorbike Riding is Fun. Don't you Agree? by Hunter(m): 2:14pm On Aug 06, 2005
I don't think I would want to test riding a motorbike in nigeria, you only have to look at most car's (dented etc) and then think what would happen to you on a motorbike.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Chatting on Nairaland? by Hunter(m): 10:14pm On Aug 03, 2005
well if you do decide to go with chat, I suggest IRC because of it's low bandwdith overhead, I wrote a guide on my site for connecting to an IRC network with mIRC, to show how simple it is smiley

Also this wouldn't cost seun a cent so that's gotta be good in his eye's tongue

EducationRe: Banning the word "Fail" in Classrooms by Hunter(m): 9:57pm On Aug 01, 2005
Everyone can go bad at something at school, Though I have never actually failed anything due to it being bad, rather than to not doing it in the first place (stupid school make me do art) Which is different I suppose, so I think the word fail is still acceptable there.
As for just going badly in class, to fail in VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) you have to get less than 25% in English (SAC (mini exam's) and the final exam (50%))
So unless your really stupid we don't here the word too often smiley

PhonesRe: Is MTN a Black-Owned Company? by Hunter(m): 6:45am On Aug 01, 2005
obong, your views on aboriginals are clearly malinformed, aboriginals receive far more money from the government than any white person. (free housing (not small cheap housing but large 4 bedroom houses, pools etc) more money and free education)

Stolen generation is a load of garbage as well, I'm not denying it happened but it hapened to white families too. If people were unfit to look after children they were placed with people that were.
Vastly blown out of proportion by the opposition for propergander value.
WebmastersRe: Website Review - Hunter by Hunter(op): 6:41am On Aug 01, 2005
it wasn't originally a thread, but it is now wink
just what people think of the theme, use of icons etc.
PhonesRe: Is MTN a Black-Owned Company? by Hunter(m): 2:04pm On Jul 31, 2005
obong, I find that quite racist saying it would be a good improvement if it was black controlled, it makes no difference what so ever!
ComputersRe: Fiber Optics or VSAT, which way to go? by Hunter(m): 12:42am On Jul 31, 2005
ADSL would be a pointless technology in nigeria, it requires stable telephone lines, which aren't too common.
ComputersRe: What Made You Switch to Linux? by Hunter(m): 12:33am On Jul 31, 2005
I still use windows on desktop machines however usually *nix is installed on servers I configure (unless of course I need to be running an applications server wink )

ComputersRe: Email Virus Alert(s) by Hunter(m): 2:12pm On Jul 29, 2005
ah, security debates about windows vs linux is there nothing better wink

Personally I am of the beleif that if a hacker really wanted to stuff with your stuff it wouldn't matter what o/s you were running they could do it!
ComputersRe: Fiber Optics or VSAT, which way to go? by Hunter(m): 2:09pm On Jul 29, 2005
wimax hasn't been launched even in the states so you could be waiting a while, best bet is to check with some of the launch customers like intel. Companies like ericsson that build DSLAMS might be going into the wireless platform so that may be worth checking out.
ComputersRe: Removing VBS Redlof and Trojan.Startpage by Hunter(m): 2:07pm On Jul 29, 2005
problem is niggy there are many way's to hide programs from showing up in msconfig (they're are even a few good reasons why you would want to do this as well)
ComputersRe: Fiber Optics or VSAT, which way to go? by Hunter(m): 8:04am On Jul 29, 2005
I don't think kazey meant that fibre should go straight to the home, in fact this is really an impossible goal for nigeria because of the lack of planning (and being honest there are far more important things to be spending money on) but what I think he is meaning is using it for backbone and then last mile technologies like ADSL, wimax etc which are dependent on fibre links.

Look at Australia, a country of vast space and it is completly fibred (the smallest town I know about that has an ADSL enabled exchange is 100 people) as far as I know technologies like VSAT are in very small deployment, all made possible by planning!

Another possibility is deployment of 3G for broadband, which sites could be protected against vandalism
ComputersRe: Removing VBS Redlof and Trojan.Startpage by Hunter(m): 7:55am On Jul 29, 2005
also try running your anti-virus in safemode, because alot of process's don't start in safe mode smiley
Nairaland GeneralRe: User Suggestions for the Nairaland Forum by Hunter(m): 11:59am On Jul 28, 2005
Thats still kinda a niche market though joftech, the computing section isn't jam packed yet with stuff on linux/open source.
WebmastersRe: Cost of Designing & Hosting a Web Portal by Hunter(m): 10:14pm On Jul 27, 2005
cost of bandwidth, reliability, connections to the outside, most sat net customers peer into europe or the US anyway.

ps, I found out apache was doing something really dodgy on my website (randomly spawning it's self -- so it had launched 500 odd times, needless to say it's all fixed up and speed isn't a problem anymore wink )
WebmastersRe: Cost of Designing & Hosting a Web Portal by Hunter(m): 4:24am On Jul 27, 2005
Also it's worth noting nigeria isn't the best place to have your data centre located wink
ComputersRe: HP Officejet Printer Problems (need qualified Technicians) by Hunter(m): 4:23am On Jul 27, 2005
poor power conditions will burn destroy the bulb and make those error's happen, if you buy new ones make sure they are surge protected!

WebmastersRe: Cost of Designing & Hosting a Web Portal by Hunter(m): 11:22am On Jul 24, 2005
Imnakoya thats to do with the fact the server also host an IRC daemon on it, the space is provided to me for free so I can't complain.

It appears to be working all fine atm. smiley

UPDATE: Hmm there is some major outage problems with sprint at the moment. It would seem (at least for us (the problem is caused by a dead router in the states) that could have affected it.
ComputersRe: Opera Web Browser by Hunter(m): 11:20am On Jul 24, 2005
Thunderbird makes a great email client though smiley

Opera just never really grabbed me, besides it's not free (well legally wink )
