Nihilist:There is no basis to keep Ramires on these reasons considering he has not done that job effectively since 2012 (3 years ago), and it was only possible due to mega-bus parking which is no longer the way that Chelsea are set up. If we also consider he is 28 and a new contract will take that physical advantage into decline, he earns too much money to be a utility who cannot be trusted in central midfield. . . and he has a transfer value we can cash in which will only reduce going forward. Also consider that Willian can mark any winger out of the game. Witsel, if he came can make the counterattacking runs whilst also being a certified midfield man, and can also play right-back and right-wing. Bertrand Traore started his International career as a left-back, has successfully transitioned to a winger or attacking midfielder . . . .and even successfully transitioned to a striker last season (The Gareth Bale journey) And Jack Cork if he had signed would cover midfield, right-back and can also play left-back and centre-back. There is no reason to keep Ramires at huge wage and opportunity cost on the promise of replicating something that happened 3 years ago, which has failed to materialise ever since - especially since his status, cost and reputation demands he be given the 3rd midfield spot which he can't perform in. |
Nihilist:I'm with you, but lets analyse Ramires honestly and run through his career. Ramires greatest 2 performances for Chelsea was playing left wing against Napoli and playing right-back against Barcelona. Brazil - Ramires started his career as a right-back. He became famous playing as a right-winger for Brazil. Dungas system was to play Felipe Melo and Gilberto Silva as pivot players and attack with Dani Alves and Michel Bastos from wing-back. Ramires was employed on the wing as an auxiliary to cover Dani Alves forward raids. He has never successfully functioned as a central midfielder for Brazil. Chelsea seasons: 2010/2011 - Ramires came to Chelsea in replacement of Ballack and flopped badly. Chelsea went from league Champions to worrying about UCL qualification. His first season as a central midfielder for Chelsea was a certified flop. He got dropped/injured at the turn of the year, while Essien returned to full fitness and saw us through to 2nd place. 2011/2012 - His greatest season at Chelsea, yet his two memorable performances were playing RB against Barca and LW against Napoli. Chelsea finished 6th in the table, he DID NOT PERFORM as a TRADITIONAL MIDFIELDER and from February, RDM played Lampard and Mikel in the pivot and pushed Ramires to the wing. 2012/2013 - Ramires and Mikel were given a clear run at being first choice pivot midfielders. They flopped badly, knocking Chelsea out the UCL. By January, we were not in the top 4, Lampard returned from injury and Benitez pushed Ramires to the wing (sometimes the bench) and employed Lampard and Luiz in the pivot to see us through the season, and we ended up qualifying for UCL comfortably in 3rd place. 2013/2014 - Jose gave Ramires a clear 5 months to establish himself as a central midfielder. By January, he bought Matic and saw out the season with Matic and Luiz as his preferred pivot. Once again, Ramires had failed as a central midfielder. 2014/2015 - Ramires hardly featured. In summary, what I am saying is Ramires has NEVER PERFORMED as a central midfielder for Chelsea, he has never been a traditional central midfielder with Brazil - and he is NOT a central midfielder, after 5 years of being given numerous opportunities to establish his place in central midfield. He simply does not have the tools to play in a midfield two because he trained as a right-back from the academy to his first years as a professional and lacks the strength, touch, passing or intelligence to be considered a central midfielder in any form. He is simply living off a reputation with Brazil and Chelsea built by playing as an auxilliary winger/fullback. On a personal level, I have never scored Ramires a 7/10 performance in central midfield in his 5 years at Chelsea. Under no circumstance do I see him as a 3rd midfielder or a midfielder at all. I don't think there is any Chelsea fan who knows football who can point to any performance in Ramires 5 years at Chelsea and tell me that he performed the basic function of a central midfielder and delivered on the functions of that position. |
Nihilist:I wasn't comparing him to Ramires, just showing Airborne that he is a better fit for Chelseas 4th midfielder than Ramires cos no Chelsea fan can countenance Ramires as the 3rd midfielder. How can Ramires be the 3rd midfielder when he vex every Chelsea fan in every game he comes on? Your third midfielder supposed to come on and not rock the boat. Ramires comes on and vex everybody. That means Ramires can only be the 4th midfielder, and no 4th midfielder earns £90k and is worth £15m-£20m on the open market. Can you tell me the last time Ramires put in a 7/10 performance? I cannot recall one this season just gone. At no point were we pleased with any single game he played, which is not what we want from our 3rd midfielder. I can assure you that Jack Cork will enter the pitch as the 4th choice midfielder and not piss anyone off, because he can do the simple things like control and pass the ball. From the moment, he stepped into Swansea midfield, you sef see the performances. That's why they improved in the 2nd half of the season to finish in 8th place. And since you ask, yes, he is better than Ramires. Ramires is not a midfielder in training or experience. He plays like a right-back and was trained as one. Ramires pass completion was 79% last season playing for Chelsea, Cork was 86% playing for Swansea. Cork made 57 passes per 90 mins, Ramires made 44. You cannot compare a specialist midfielder to an auxiliary midfielder. And Cork was the best midfielder on the pitch when Swansea beat Arsenal. That's what you call a good fit for the 4th midfield position/ substitute right-back.
|
Nihilist:Why not be informed before arguing? Cork was 6 months to the end of his contract and refusing to sign a new one hence his price was £3m. He's now walked in to Swansea midfield and earning rave reviews. I think Swansea did not lose a single game, if any, since he took the no4 shirt. Where would Ramires slot into Southampton wing? In place of Sadio Mane or Dusan Tadic? Tah! Like I said to Airborne, if you need a Geremi/Scott Parker who can come in and play 15 games per season, why would you go for Ramires and pay him £90k a week (whilst his transfer value reduces to nothing sitting on the bench) when a homegrown ninja like Cork will give you 7/10 or 6/10 at worst every game on £35k per week? My preferred midfield 4 for Chelsea would have been Matic, Witsel, Clasie and Cork. Cork to fill in at rightback also. Ramires can never be a viable 3rd midfielder because he is not good enough if Matic/Witsel are not on the pitch. And he earns too much money to be a 4th choice midfielder like Geremi Chelsea fans cannot remember the last time Ramires played a 7/10 game. Ninja played the whole season giving 5/10 performances. What's the point of versatility when you suck in every position? |
Nihilist:Playing 30 games a season in Southampton midfield is not what I would call 'not seeing shirt'. Can Ramires see shirt in any midfield where Schneiderlin and Wanyama dey? Tah! Cork is doing his thing in Swansea midfield now. |
AirborneLacer:When such a dude is worth £15m-£20m on the open market, aged 28 with those physical qualities approaching decline at 30, and already on £70k (I assume to be rewarded with £90k or more), he is no longer Geremi type player. It would be foolishness not to sell. And you may be too young to remember but Geremi did zilch for Chelsea. We were happy to get rid of him to Newcastle. If you wanted a squad player to do all those things you've listed above (play right-back, centre midfield etc), then you go for a ninja like Jack Cork who was a free transfer, earning not more than £35k and is also Cobham-grown. And he's a real midfielder unlike Ramires. Ramires is the only central midfielder I know who will be playing counterattack when the team is still developing the first phase of play. A ninja who will just start running into opposition players camped in their own half for no reason. |
My favourite bars. . . Heywhizzy: coogar:MVGT - Rebel |
AirborneLacer:Absolute rubbish. Efficiency is playing a pass instead of trying to run with the ball through central midfield and losing it. Efficiency is having the sense to know that the ball travels faster than man ie if you need to get the ball to the opponents half, it is quicker to pass it there than run. with it. Ramires is the very antithesis of Efficiency - a waste of energy with no ends. He is the only ninja with energy that comes into a midfield, and the midfield becomes easier to penetrate. Why? He uses his energy giving the ball away, not pressing in formation with his fellow midfielders, not playing at a possession tempo, rather rushing everything. I refer you to Chelsea 6 - Everton 3 from last season as an example. I'm sure ninjas thought playing Ramires will tighten up the Cesc-Matic pivot, but it had the opposite effect. |
AirborneLacer:What do you call giving a new contract to a 27/28 year old whose game is SOLELY based on running? Foolishness. Whats the point of saying "he can play multiple positions" when he is shýte in every position? Shýte as a winger, shýte as a midfielder, which position does he remotely play well in? Ramires has had no impact at Chelsea except in the UCL run in 2011/2012. 3 solid seasons of failure. Would he be at Barcelona or Madrid after 3 years of failure? No. |
Chestar5:I cannot argue footie with you sister. Oscar is approaching 24 years old now, has never impacted a season and time to cash in is now when the 'young' tag can still be applied to him. He was 'potential' when he was 21, 22 and 23. When you reach 24 with no standout season, you are no longer 'potential' but 'failure'. Oscar, Rafael Da Silva and Davide Santon are the same age. Nobody is looking at Davide Santon as potential anymore. His own story has been written as failure. No wonder Juventus are pricing Oscar at £9m, even with 4 years left on his contract, |
I dont know which coach at Chelsea converted Chalobah from a centre back to a midfielder They need to stop that silly experiment. Its been dragging on for three years now That dude cannot find his teammate with the ball. English Ramires. |
Obese won this with better experience. This was the best line of the battle: Oga at the top, Ibime, what dey go on? im here to bring a storm, by studying Mikuz, now im finding form Coogar Kr0ne and DBR feel my shiiit, it'll be clear after i've won relax, notice how i 'tagged GOATS in this field?' it's clear im here to destroy corn| MVGT - Obese |
How come no team values Oscar more than £20m? Make una hurry up abeg, we need the cash to spend. And whats this foolishness about offering Ramires new contract? Is there not a Russian team somewhere that would pay us £18m for him? |
Thats what happens when you employ Yes men like Gareth Southgate to manage your team. Manager without balls who plays Luther Vandross music in training. He is no manager, just a politician |

AirborneLacer:Remove Mertesacker from that equation and Arsenal start to look formidable |
Yes, one of my colleagues died of Malaria 2 years ago after a volunteering trip to Sierra Leone. He was so sick in UK, they flew him to South Africa for treatment, although I suspect he would have had a better chance if treated in a West African country. Malaria dey kill Oyinbo man no doubt. |
Cuadrado is not a footballer, he's a clown who gives the ball away and puts his team under pressure every time. I would honestly sell him for £12m right now and cut my losses. |
Onismate, you no finish the story well abeg. I dey vex. You need to rework the last section. There is no jurisdiction that would kill Soji and free you. Also you were pushing the realms of fantasy with Abus death. The story lost all semblance of reality at that point. All in all, I would rate the story 9/10 (Abu and Sojis death removed 1 mark, otherwise I would have given it 10/10) Yes, this is a classic with more twists and turns than The Passport of Mallam Ilia by Cyprian Ekwensi. Well done. |
Cech is my man all day. Family first. He was doing his job at 100% for the club and never deserved to get dropped. He still performs marginally better than Courtois till today but Courtois is the future hence he was benched somewhat unjustly. |
Manure closing in on Schweinsteiger. . . . that's a potential game changer |

Looks like Charlie Austin is heading to Stamford Bridge I don't understand it. He, Falcao and Diego Costa are central strikers. None of them really play in a front two or on the wing. Maybe Diego Costa is leaving? |
AirborneLacer:I can't speak about anything before 1996. Although Peter Osgood is a Chelsea legend, Jimmy Greaves has great International status and is arguably the greatest English striker of all time, and bigger than Drogba in status. I don't think Desailly deserves mention in our greatest team either. Gallas, Terry, Carvalho and arguably Lebeouf and Cahill all played better than him for Chelsea. Most of his best work came for Milan. My Chelsea eleven 1996 to date is: --------------------Cech Petrescu----Terry---------Carvalho-------Cole --------Makelele------------Ballack ------------------Lampard Zola------------------------------Hazard -------------------Drogba |
