WAGAZ:Your uncle may not be coming home soon, because there are a lot of bills to pay. Money is not lying on the streets or growing on trees to pick. Coming to Nigeria is not easy at all. Flight tickets are very expensive. The Money I pay for just a flight ticket to Nigeria, would get me a 2 week full holiday package (accomodation + break fast) in Kenya or Southafrica. |
RockMaxi:I really don't think Jonathan played fair at all. The main downfall of his regime is his pettiness i.e. fighting with everyone including the bosses, nepotistic and croynistic tendecies, as well as his don't give a damn attitude while thousands are being slaughtered. Anyone that think Jega was able to stop the rigging must be living on Mars. The chief riggers just changed their allegiance. The voting results in the Northwest, South east, and the South south remind me of elections in a communistic and totalitarian one party system, and they are never fair nor free. Goodluck is far from being a good man as some people want us to believe. What a good man will be partying while people are dying? |
DesChyko:You young man are a very sensible Nigerian. I pray may the good Lord increase many like you in Nigeria, so that we may be able to properly tackle the problem. It's not about leaders being corrupt only. The followership is equally yoked in Nepotism and corruption, abuse of power and office etc. |

This your theory of Ibo growing more political clouts in Lagos would have had a bit of legitmacy if these seats were won not by the PDP and the Accord party but APGA. |
Crocz:Listen to your silly self: How can a Kanuri person be Hausa? Please enlighten yourself about the different ethnic groups in Nigeria. Thank you! |
Der mya1:Also just FYI, England does not equate to Britain. Britain refers to the countries you listed without Nortern Ireland. But it's also used to refer to all four countries as well since the people are not United Kingdomists but British. |
mya1:Just FYI! England is not equal to Britain. Historically, Britain refers to the three countries without Ireland (now just Northern Ireland). Officially, the whole of the Union is refered to as The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (now just Northern Ireland). |
EroticAngelina:Just FYI, London is still part of the UK, precisely England. The city is not an independent city state like Singapore. |
hummerwise:You seems not to know what you are talking about. Let's assume you are right, and Nigerians are regarded as slaves in these countries, but why is it that the same foreigners you denigrate are treated like kings, have more right than you in your beloved paradise? BTW, assaulting or calling someone a slave are punishable offences in this part of the world. If it were here that a political campaigner tells people to stone her opponents as alleged, that would have been the end of their political career. That's just an example to illustrate what you lack in Nigeria, and what we "slaves" according to your logic enjoy here. I have lived more than 20 years in Europe, driven thousands of miles criss crossing central Europe (particularly Germany), experienced racism, but I am yet to be called a slave. And if you think there's no discrimination in Nigeria, you would be deceiving only yourself. |
AlphaDibia:Respect! Very correct and logical. Do unto others as you would others do unto you. |
simplemach:What is gwanjo? Did you mean to say GBANJO? |
pretydiva:What you think is sane in Nigeria would be viewed as insane in other societies. People with principle would rather let go the job than be with an intolerant recruiter who thinks braiding is unnatural. Perhaps the recruiter needs to define what "it" mean by being natural. |
Ijaw people with yeye names sha. How can someone bear HITLER? Look at the Gestapo guy standing behind the governor in that photo. When will these people use sense when naming themselves? A black man bearing Hitler is a real bloody f00l. |
Craigston:There was no time the Naira was higher than the pound. When we changed to the decimal currency system in 1973, one Naira was 10 Shilling. One pound was 2 Naira. If you listen to elderly speak in Yoruba, they still count in "poun". Poun kan (2 Naira), poun meji (4 Naira), poun mewa (20 Naira) etc. The Naira was only higher than the Dollar until olori buruku somebody introduced the structural adjustment programs from the IMF , after having conducted a kind of opinion polls where most Nigerians rejected the SAP terms. After this, the gap toothed devil promised not to implement SAP, but later did the opposite. |
Blitz888: Keep lying to yourself that Nigerians are not that gullible. Majority of Nigerians are very daft and lack cognitive capacity. A fast majority of them think only with their bellies. |
So their holy ghost did not reveal to them that the documents were not original or they failed to pray about it? These people aren't acting what they preach ke. Instead of turning their other cheek, they are getting the guy arrested. Common Oledepo, give what belongs to Ceasar to Ceasar, and what belongs to Oluwa to Oluwa. Forgive the poor man for he knoweth not what he did. He was being a witch for Naira ni jare. ![]() |
hilariousdammie:These Statistics do not tally at all. Who prepared such a highly fallacious and incredibly amateurisch report? “So, the total revenue distributable for the month, including Value Added Tax (VAT) of N60.6 billion and another N55.6 billion payment from NNPC is approximately N628.8 billion,” he said. Yuguda said a breakdown of the distribution showed that the Federal Government received N196.4 billion, representing 52.68 per cent; and states, N99.649 billion, representing 26.72 per cent. He further said that the local governments received N76.8 billion, amounting to 20.60 per cent of the amount distributed. The minister said that N39.9 billion, representing 13 per cent derivation revenue was also shared among the oil producing states. |
Okeikpu:You can never be an educational product of the 1980ies. If you're sure of yourself, we can bet on it. I went to a grammar school, meaning not the best of schools back then, and I can still hold my water even though I do not breath English. Infact, I am anti English. Education and discipline had meaning during Buhari time. The decay began during Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida regime with the introduction of the IMF Structural Adjustment Programmes with the devaluation of the Naira, and the spiral downturn of the Nigerian economy. Buhari/Idiagbon were able to correct some of the ills of the Shagari regime, but they were very high handed. Buhari is old, so I hope he will choose a youthful and actionable Vice President. Amaechi or Rochas would do well. Fashola is a presidential material and shouldn't bother himself as a running mate, because no Nigerian V.P. has inherited the office after his oga, except death calls on Buhari unexpectedly. |
charix: O ga gan o! Goodluck did not give you any freedom of speech. It's the constitution (or some people who drafted the constitution and believed freedom of speech is a fundamental right of a human being) that gives you that right. |
Franzeez:The least you could have done is to provide verifiable evidence of what Goodluck has done better than other Presidents and Head of States. BTW, "Nigerians" did not start being disloyal, greedy, chaotic as you said, only during Goodluck's Government. Goodluck himself is an embodiment of greed and chaos as has been demonstrated numerously through his speeches, actions and inactions. So my friend, where are your facts about Jonathan being the best Head of State/Head of Government so far in Nigerian history? |
Roland17:Your comment is contradicting. Or why do you think being a victim of abuse is never possible/believable (far-fetched) in the setting described by you as aggressive and lacking a good justice system? |
MrMann1:God knows, I am tired of Fulani representing the North, but Jonathan is a low. Even though I do not wish that Jonathan remain as President of Nigeria beyond 2015, I believe APC are very daft in the way they are going about this election. 4 Months to election, and we still don't know their flag bearer. That is totally irresponsible and shows the lack of adequate planning which was also ostensibly displayed during the time the Party was being formed, that a nonentity registered the name before them. I understand that Nigeria is a difficult terrain, but why wait until 5 Minutes to 12 before they are going to announce their flag bearers? I am afraid that what happened to Ribadu may happen to their yet to be announced candidates. By now, they should have compiled the many goofs of Jonathan, and all his lies packaged to use against him. And has the guy goofed? Ofcourde, he has goofed big time goofs indeed. And to Obasanjo: I think the reason Obasanjo was absent is that he has seen the "shi.t" he has put Nigeria in. If Jonathan was performing, nobody would have questioned his not adherring to the rubbish agreement he had with some fellows, to do just one term. Jonathan has been quite woeful as a president, and that's why every rat and cockroach can reproach him. He has definitely turned the office of the president of Nigeria through his words and actions into a position of ridicule. I wish Nigeria well. I wish Nigeria good luck, but not Ebele Jonathan. |
barcanista:All this wuruwuru investigation. The only crime here is unlawful possession of fierarms. It wasn't said anywhere that the gun found on one of the accused was the weapon used to committ the murder. People should try to use common sense in combination with the dictate of the law. I am interested to know who reported the case to the police, why the police did not do ballistic test, or why they did a shoddy work. Nigeria police is a disgrace to policing just like Nigeria is a big disgrace. Everything scatter scatter. Government houses in Nigeria is full of thugs and clueless people. |
Oletty:You my friend are seeing the light. What you say makes sense: And that too much power is concentrated in Abuja is the bane of holding the President responsible for all and sundry mishaps. The Army are the one that destroyed the Nigerian regionality. Sai Aguinyi for introducing unitary government. Thanks Babangida and Abacha for totally corrupting Nigeria. The Nigerian situation is a delicate one however, because if you have powerful regional leaders on the other hand, they would feel like a Demigod a la Ahmadu Bello or Emeka Ojukwu, and that's where the problem lies. We got to balance the act of giving the regions more autonomy without creating a situation we had in the 60ies in Nigeria and Congo Kinshasha. Nevertheless, power must be devolved from the center, and policing Nigeria must not solely reside in the hands of the federal Govt anymore. For a start, they can make the Presidency a kind of collegiate whereby the President is selected/elected among the collegiate members. It would certainly reduce the tension and focus on the office the President, and the chance of more ethnicities smelling the office would increase similarly. |
Onegai:The problem you just narrated has no bearing on Fashola actually. If anything, it shows that the systems and society is infinitely corrupt. If you have any evidence of corruption, the right thing to dowould be to report it to the press or the police, but I bet you would be endangering your life if you do. It's the decay we want addressed, but the current set up of Nigeria would not allow for a general overhauling of the system. Anyway, you have totally negated your accusation that Fashola did nothing by saying that Lagosians as Nigerians are used to eating mud, but have now through Fashola atleast upgraded to eating sand. |
dejsmiles:The author is far from establishing the fact. He even said Dubai was unknown 16 years ago. However, this same Dubai has been on transformation since the seventies and especially the 1980s. At the Expo 2000 in Hannover Germany, more than 14 years ago, the United Arab Emirates were there. Nigeria was also there. If you went to the pavillions of both countries, you would know that there is a difference between Light and Darkness. I was at the UAE (Abu Dhabi, Dubai etc.) pavillions, and at the Nigerian "corner", because that's what it was. The UAE has been in the business of developing a long time ago. Dubai did not just blossom into an economic and touristic paradise in just 16 years. It has been a long process. And the United Arab Emirates federation provided the conducive atmosphere that allowed each emirate to thrive. The rich Emirates even support the less wealthier Emirates to develop. For Lagos to witness the developmental strides comparable to Dubai, Lagos would not only need more money, but also the federal Government of Nigeria must create the enabling atmosphere. There's just too much power concentrated in Abuja. Besides, nepotism should be punishable offence, and corrupt people should be punished and their property confiscated. Until then, the wastage will continue irrespective of the party at the helms of affair. |

This guy is comparing Lagos to Dubai and said Dubai was not known 16 years ago. Well, the development in the UAE dates back beyond 16 years ago. The most important thing is continuity in good leadership, and the UAE have been blessed in this regard. Apart from this, Dubai has had a steady flow of finance for decades, and misappropriation is less than we have in Lagos/Nigeria. Beside, Dubai has a much less population to contend with compared to Lagos and has much more autonomy. All these things must be taken into consideration before arriving at a conclusion. My take on the matter is thus: I'd rate Fashola above average in terms of his leadership qualities if benchmarked among the good leaders of the world. If I however have to rate him based on Nigerian standards, I would give a rating of very good. A good leader should not only be concerned about building infrastructures, but also about the welfare of it's citizens, and if not for the LASU tuition fees saga, I'd have rated him much higher. Nevertheless, he's atop of his class in Nigeria. I have the gut feelings that money is misappropriated, but the wastage is less than we have at the central Government. Generally, there is wastage of scarce funds and lack of accountability in every aspect of governance in Nigeria. If we can reduce wastage, do away with nepotism in awarding of contracts, I believe we would be able to get more out of every single tax Naira. By the way, here's the 2014 federal budget of the UAE: http://english.alarabiya.net/en/business/economy/2013/10/28/UAE-approves-slightly-higher-federal-spending-for-2014.html. It's only account for 14 percent of overall fiscal spending in the UAE. And this is the budget of the emirate of Dubai for 2014: http://www.emirates247.com/news/mohammed-approves-2014-dubai-budget-2013-11-25-1.529204. It's around 10 billion Dollars! We definitely need better leaders that have good ideas and vision, as well as the energy to practicalize their vision and ideas. We need less of thuggish stomach infrastructure leaders who are more interested in the amount of money they can "legally" steal. |
FLAWLES:And what does the Bible teaches you about HATE? As a matter of fact, the BBC doesn't hate you, it's only exposing the dumb nature of a lot of ye religious slaves. |
ToyozzieTohBad:Seun banned your account till 2024 abi? I hope this account is also banned. I just don't understand the craze you children have to be the first to comment. This craze has gotten really ridiculous. |
berem:He's not making Jonathan appear clueless, he's indeed clueless and raw behaviorally or otherwise as in not polished. |
mko2005:Well, it's great news that after we have rebased our economic data, we are now the biggest economy in Africa. What I would advice you to do is, to visit some of the countries you mentioned, and come back to Nigeria if you will still be shouting we are the biggest economy in Africa. Nigeria has got a long way to go, and this government has done not much to put us on the right path. That our economy has been growing is not the merit of Jonathan's economic policies, but the reforms put forward by his predecesors especially Obasanjo. This I believe you wont doubt if you are still going to hold on to your following statement: "...good economic policies sometimes if not all the time can't be seen or felt on a short run basis." |

No 2 should not have been a weakness but the real strength of Jonathan. It will take us many years to see any leader with such ability.
