dimples*:Itunu can be literarily translated to mean RELIEVE or even CONSOLATION. It's definitely not a bad thing to be relieved or consoled after going through an ordeal. Yoruba say: oruko ni ng ro eni. Which means people live their names. I have known some few women bearing ITUNU, and they seems to be generally compassionate and level headed. Are you like that? |
Dannylux: I think this is naturalIt is natural only to Nigerians to be rude, ungrateful, corrupt... That's the reason your President said: 'STEALING' is not corruption. It is not made up, Goodluck actually said that. In most part of the world, these attitudes would be frowned upon. |
Donmams: One thing i'm proud of is that the entire south, with all its education and intellectuals does not have anyone close to Buhari and Murtala Mohammed. How are you sure Buhari is not corrupt? And please tell me what Muritala did for Nigeria that no other leaders have done. Bear in mind that this individual personally experienced the Muritala and Buhari/Idiagbon eras. If you read some other posts on this thread, you would have heard the name of a very distinguished Nigerian mentioned. He alone has done a lot for the betterment of the general Nigerian populace and a lot of downtrodden Nigerians. Buhari and Muritala Ramat combined have not done a quarter of what he did while he was alive. Ofcourse I am talking of Chief Gani Fawehinmi. And there were and are more like him in the South. |
shymexx:Young man, that young woman seems to like you. |
omiobo: Nairaland is becoming boring day by day. I'm beginning to view nairaland in musiwa's perceptive as a fraud. If nairaland cannot help to put an end to tribalism but contribute to it. I must say nairaland is indeed a fraud.Aburo, Nairaland is a mirror of Nigeria. It is Nigeria in miniature. Therefore, it is an illusion to think that the majority of the people frequenting here would be different from the real Nigeria. Nigeria as a country wallows in and is lamed by fraud. It is a complete mess. Dont be too baffled. Things will definitely not continue to run like this forever. There is surely gonna be an implosion. We just havent got to the edge enough, when we would say enough of these bull craps. |
cashkid18: wat is dis one sayingThe person you are refering to as "dis one" is old enough to be your father. Being online should not mean one should always throw courtsey to the wind. |
dridowu: Flood is a natural disasterAburo, ko si iro ninu ohun ti o so yii. Flood is an act of God. Ojo ibukun yio ro si gbogbo wa lori. Pelu ayo li awa yio ko ire oko lojo ikore. |
ujoinme: Why is it that its only Africans are the ones constantly heaping our retrogression on the colonial rule? most of the world was divided up and colonized by Europeans even the US was once a colony. Did I say I like your attitude? Yes, this is the kind of attitude that will move the country forward. Alas, there is just too much people in that country that know the truth but are not enthusiastic to make the neccessary changes. |
ujoinme: [b]When i went through the trouble to get those photographs which were right protected on flicker to be released so i could share with you guys on the forum i had promised the original owner of photographs British guy that i will share your reactions to the piece of historical heritage (photograph) with him.Young man, that's if you are younger than 40, I like your attitude. I think a lot of the young fellows here and in Nigeria needs to emulate your spirit. I hope they would move Nigeria forward. However, I am very pessimistic about that, because a lot of the young people in Nigeria now only care to earn big, but work not. It's a shame really... |
Wo mi ghiwin? Ki dede eyi wo ko yii? Bi wo ba fe waasun, waasun. Eyi fa je ka puro ke? Ara re ni rara o. |
L.M Ayedun..:Nigeria was never safe. It's just gotten worst in the last 28 years. It used to be better. The Nigerian police Force is not in any way capable of helping the situation. Their method of investigation is archaic just like many many things about Nigeria. It's really pathetic. |
yuzedo: op bro dis coat is d invissiblity coat harry porter use to kill abiku in his school GOD! Omade yii, wo ti ghiwin, wo ti yanma... Eyi wo ko nibe yii ton ni o! Gho aburo, ma jeji erin pa mi ju joo. |
GeneralShepherd: In a country where there is no law impunity will always reign supremeOfcourse there are laws in Nigeria. Execution and following the rules and regulations are where the problems mostly lie. Fiat are laws too, even if they are what I would call "ofin panapana". |
holly-pagan:Seems Nigeria is getting strange and stranger. Never new girls got bananas. Our generations were thought that they got "osan", "orombo", "mangoro" etc. I am hearing first time in my almost 5 decades of existence on this planet that girls have bananas. |
Ms_Steph: I was in church and noticed that a lot of people where not paying attention and I noticed some odd thingsAburo, Olorun a gbo adura e. Dakun, ki loruko ati addiressi Shooshi ti o ng lo? Ng ko maindi rara lati wa fi oju kookoo mi ri nkan wonyi fun ara mi. O seun! Oluwa a bukun e bi iwo naa ti fe bukun mi pelu awon infomeshon wonyi. In case you dont speak "Yoruba Yoruba", I pray you to furnish me with the name and adress of your church so that I may be able to investigate your allegations. May the Lord bless you as you too is going to bless me with the information I requested of you. |
rafcrown: @MARKENNY WHO WROTE THIS BEFORE@poster i will not adivse but i will tell u little about norwayHello, what do you mean by: "Norway is a very very small country"? Do you mean it population wise or the geographical size of the country? Would appreciate if you clarify. Thanks |
bendicion09: What of Spain?Go to Germany. There is a lot of people from Spain taking up employment in Germany. Language proficiency is necessary though. You may however encounter more obstacles regarding you not being a citizen. Nonetheless, you can still give it a try. An American online trading company does employ seasonal workers from across Europe. Check at your local labour office about AMAZON. They need people for the coming Christmas season. BTW, I heard they are also building a logistic centre in Spain. I can't tell you which region though. As I said earlier, go inquire from the labour office near you. I read somewhere that you got children. Well, if you can wait, try to get citizenship's status and then relocate to IRELAND. |
nekede11: He is right, dat s exactly hw tinz goes n ministry of interior.Even if that's how it done at the Ministry, it doesn't make it RIGHT. It is NEPOTISM. It is BRIBERY. It is everything but right and legal. At least two offences are involved. |
There is nothing like an African culture. Africa is a diverse continent where many cultures exist. It should be of great concern to be specific. Even within an ethnic group, we do have nuances of cultural diversity. There are things common to Ilajes that are not found among other Yoruba groups and vice versa. Therefore, the title of the thread is very wrong. It would have been better to have said: African cultures are dying. But then, you have to give more than one example and that spread across the entire continent. And like some people already asked, what has Xmas got to do with African cultures? |
IYA NGBALI: you are a foooooooooooool, how can you be comparing a president with a former governor who is not holding any political office. GEJ is the president while Tinubu is just an ordinary citizen, you dont expect people to attack Tinubu the way attack GEJ. Copy that boyThat apart, Tinubu or his "numerous special advisers" never lied about his medical whereabouts. |
shejane: Dot kw much abt diesel cars thou bt I love my fuel carFuel: Diesel, Petrol, Kerosene, Methyl Alcohol, LPG, CNG etc. |
playmode: Join hands with who? With these ignorant buffoons who call themselves Nigerians? Just take a look at NL and see how some buffoons are supporting a bonafide criminal ifeanyi Ubah to become Governor. You want me to join hands with dumb Negroes who knowingly elect fraudsters to govern over them? Na OYO you dey ,i left Nigeria 12 years ago and i have not looked back ever since. My children are citizens of my adopted country so they will never be subject to the hellish conditions that exist in Nigeria. Most of my family members have come to join me in my new country and the ones that are still in Nigeria are crying everyday begging me to get them out of that trash hole called Nigeria.Call a spade a spade,Nigeria is a failed state inhabited by mostly morons who have lost the ability to engage their thinking faculties.Nigeria makes the simplest things very hard.If you have tasted heaven you can NEVER EVER go back to hell.Ododo oro lo so jare. Don't mind these people. Go to politics section to see those that wants you to join hands with them to make Nigeria better. A country where there is little to no sense of belonging or unity among its various ethnicities. The best thing to do is to get ammunition and get a lot of people kiss the metal and reduce thereafter the insane power of the Federal Government. Nigeria must go back to the era of autonomous regions. The reforms is beyond these bloody civilians, and definitely also beyond the fucking armed forces of Nigeria. |
pacer: well all i bleeped the girls thats right ,but they made me sin.i was tempted. The devil made me do it Aburo, kare! O daju wipe omo Naija rere ni o. Ise Esu ni looto. Abi beeko? Lieber Freund, du bist ein richtiger Nigerianer. Der Teufel ist immer der Schuldige. Brother, you're a true Nigerian. The Devil is always at fault. My guy, you be proper Naija guy. Na truth you knack so o. De Devil is a liar. Him don make you chop the forbidden fruitS no be so? |
Confusion: You are one of the problem that nigeria has, critcizing everythingInsulting and telling someone - who is definitely much older than you and experienced in the Nigerian way - to shut up is not a unique selling proposition. If at all it is something, it is a sign of weakness. And putting the word HATE in your mouth definitely gives you out as the shallow minded person between us two. This in turn means that you can only be hating on your very self. BTW, you have not addressed the issues raised, yet you claim to already knew I am the problem of Nigeria, how? Anyway, you may have as many new cloth as me, but you will never have as much old cloths like me. If you were knowledgeable and posseses some experience exporting from Nigeria, you would grasp what I talked about. |
Commendable as this might be, I have a question for Ms. Oduah. Has she engaged and involved her counterparts especially the minister for trade and commerce? For me, it is really cheap to talk about participating in international trade, when the laws of the land actively hinder instead of promoting export. Why do I have to apply and pay for an export license every single year? Several Nigerian laws are archaic and not fit for a country of the 21st century. I would be very much surprised if our perishable farm produce found a market abroad. We just dont know how to do things right in this country. I'd advise that Nigeria under study the listed African countries to determine the factors favouring their active participation in the Agrar export business. Putting up Cargo terminal at Airports wont sell the produce, rather: - You need to tell the world that you produce something they want - You need to find a willing buyer. - You need to make doing Business in your country bureaucratically less cumbersome. - You need to stop the extortions of people willing to enter the export business by the various government parastatals. - You need to adhere to standards prevailing in the international trade arenas etc. |
sagytarius™:Ti Iyana Mortuary ba ng ya e lenu, Ita-Oku (Itoku) nko? If you are so perplexed about "Iyana-Mortuary", what about "Ita-Oku" (ITOKU)? |
Odunharry: so sad it hapnd in ma hme townAburo, oma Igbokoda wo gha? E le! Ko ti gha ke? Se o mi yon sodidi? Oma Abaala emi gha rin. A jina le Upare. Ji Oloron forigho ji oku oron. Amin! |

Beretta92: Well,I'm not yoruba but I think it means "from abroad".Literally,it means "from over the seas" cos okun in yoruba means river or any water body.It could be preceeded by a prefix such as Ola(wealth),therefore meaning wealth 4rm abroad.I believe the actual meaning is the reason for its use for 2nd hand stuff cos some are brought from overseas. You were correct until you wrote: OKUN means RIVER/water body. If you have said water body, you might have probably be right, because OKUN is also a body of water. OKUN is the Yoruba word for the SEA. A river is an ODO (re, do). Ti okun bo (from sea arrive) means come from (over) seas. In other words, Tokunbo is coming from travel/sojourn. Furthermore, Tokunbo is not used generally to depict all "used items", but only those from Abroad, especially, and perhaps only used cars from Abroad. Atleast that's how it used be 20 or 25 years ago. |
