SMH for Jonathan. He just committed a diplomatic faux pas if he indeed said such about Mexico. How can someone be such ignorant? I think he better take a country tour of Mexico, he would realise Mexico is not in the same league with Nigeria in terms of Infrastructural, political, and above all Economic developments. SMH for Jonathan.

Wait, so LIMPOPO is a place?

Soooo, why does that guy say "oya limpopo", I am getting closer to unravelling these mysteries.
Actually, Limpopo is a river, and the "region" is named after that river like Oshun, Ogun, Imo, Anambra, Niger, Sokoto, Benue etc. in Nigeria are named after the sorrounding rivers.

FamilyRe: Your Experience During Childbirth In Nigeria by Ilaje44(m): 9:41pm On Jul 05, 2013
tnwmag.com:
@OP, great topic. The lady has been on my mind since I heard the news of her passing. I had actually met her before and she seemed a pleasant lady.

I guess something that got me thinking about Ewar's case is why was she under general anaesthesia? I have never had CS but from what I understand, women are given an epidural which numbs the pain from waist down but the mother is aware throughout the procedure. I am just wondering why general anaesthesia was used in this case. Is this the norm in Nigeria? Can a doctor please explain why?

I have also heard that most Teaching Hospitals give all women episiotomy during delivery irrespective of circumstance. I have confirmed from a few doctor friends and it seems to be a standard process. Again, can a doctor explain why? While I was having my first child, the doctor was trying hard to make sure that I did not have a single tear and so it is quite hard to understand why the women are just cut anyway in Nigeria.

Whether we want to admit it or not, our healthcare is in shambles and I don't entirely blame the care givers. My family think I am OTT but I have informed that them even if I have a headache, they should not take me to a hospital in Nigeria. I have lost quite a few close people to negligence in that country. Truth is Ewar stood a good chance no matter her condition if she was elsewhere but Nigeria. Sad but the absolute truth.
I wouldnt want to go to a nigerian hospital if I have the choice. Emergency is unknown to them over there. While I was there last year, I had a scorpion sting in the dead of the night. I went to a private hospital, they were all sleeping. I was asked to fill a form etc. etc. It took ages before I was administered the antiserum. Nigeria is a service desert. And most of them are also empathically bankrupt like that person called TELLWISDOM.

jennykadry: Live in denial all you want ,darling. kiss
I dont believe he is living in denial, rather he is clueless about his history. While I was in school in the Seventies and Eigties, we were not thought much about it, and I do not think the slave trade (transatlantic and transsahara) makes a huge part of the curriculum today too. How would we learn from past mistakes when there is no teaching about them? The Nigerian govt is not even taking care of the monuments in her jurisdiction.
PoliticsRe: If Nigeria Breaks, The North Is Doomed – Yerima by Ilaje44(m): 6:52pm On Jun 25, 2013
kettykin: If Nigeria Breaks it is not only the North that is at risk, The middle belters will be at great risk of invasions by Northerners who would be very very restive.
While the South East will be under intense need for land for expansion and extension thisl would lead to constant friction with the Benue /Kogi axis and the Niger Delta.

The Niger Delta would be at bigger risk because of wars for domination and ownership of cities like warri , Portharcour and the Ilaje areas , big war if i may say.

The south West will face new risk of invasion along the Kabba axis and illorin axis while the outflow of foreign investment will turn Lagos into a worse city than Ibadan where riff raffs , touts and hooligans masquerading as Tinubu boys would take over everything with Investors pulling off what ever they can and relocating to Ghana and south Africa.
This would turn the South West in to the poorest zone in Africa

fydence: that 'someone' must have bn high on something illegal...how is mali or cote d'voire?
That person is out of his mind. How many of the former annexations of France are really prosperous? Apart from Quebec which the English seized from them some centuries back, which other ex french domain is very prosperous compared to the english ones?

Forget, France is milking the dumb Africans till today in the form of the common currencies. The British are also subtly milking the gullible Africans, but lot less than the French are doing.

9ja_I_hail: This will be a right move only if Tinumbu and opposition parties do not play politics with this, forgetting that national interest should not be use to score cheap political point.

GEJ administration is the first Nigeria Govt to fight for it citizens right internationally.
Then you have a short memory. In this new democratic dispensation, standing up for Nigerians in foreign countries actually started with Yaradua.

Anyway, I wish them luck sha. At the same time, I feel it is time Nigeria do away with references in the process of reissuance of the Nigerian passport to a nigerian citizen abroad. It really nerves.

PoliticsRe: Shout-out To Lasg/brf To Fix Alpha Beach Road!!! by Ilaje44(m): 12:01pm On Jun 25, 2013
johnie: Both New Road (which leads to the beach) and Alpha Beach-Lafiaji Road (which runs parallel to the ocean banks) need urgent attention.

New Road used to lead to one of the most active tourist spots in Lagos, Alpha Beach, until recently. The tourism potential of the area has now been killed by the neglect of both the Federal and State Government.

In addition to that, there are scores of poor and middle class people who live at Alpha Beach, some already displaced from their ancestral homes.

The president and state governor have both visited the site. They flew to the site by helicopter (I know for sure the president did) and made promises but nothing is yet to be done.

I personally take exception to the notion that only the rich and affluent live in Lekki. This is just an unfortunate generalisation which must stop!

There are communities in Lekki whose only link to 'civilisation' are roads that were constructed by DFRRI (during the Babangida years).
If you knew that in the mid 1970s there was no road to these places, you would be grateful for the little development you have now. Back then, the Baale in Aja practically begged my father to move to Ajah. He actually gave father a free plot, but father refused, because there was no road leading to Ajah and it was far from civilisation. Beside, father already bought a plot in Ogudu. Anyway, I am still regretting that we did not move to Ajah back then. And our plot in Ogudu was acquired for the GRA Ogudu project and our house was demolished without the millitary Government of Obasanjo compensating us. I remember that when we visit Ajah with our boat, we used to stay like 3 days and I used to go to the forest to pick gigantic snails with my elder sisters. It is a beautiful memory.
PoliticsRe: ECOWAS Single Currency Begins In 2015 -WAMI by Ilaje44(m): 11:24am On Jun 25, 2013
ballabriggs: It is not feasible and I will give you some reasons. You do not just do it because you hear others are doing it.

Firstly, most ECOWAS countries do not have the same economic cycle. To share a single currency is to lose control of your monetary policy. In fact Nigeria with a lesser risk than these other countries will be stupid to dollarise its currency. A bit technical and I might need a chart to explain what I mean.

Secondly, the volume of inter-ECOWAS trade between member countries is a small proportion of the total trade of these countries. Makes absolutely no sense to then dollarise when there are still barriers to trade between members.
Aktually, you dont need a chart, because you are peddling falsehood. Firstly, all the countries involved are basically raw material exporting countries. Secondly corruption and inefficiency is common to all. Thirdly, the Naira is already dollarized a long time ago. The value of the Naira is pegged to the Dollar.

However, you are very on point with the matter of inter-ECOWAS trade. I really laughed when I read they are planning a single currency, when they are busy imposing all manner of barriers to impede free flow of good among themselves. If there was free trade in the ECOWAS, the Lagos port would have to up its game else, a lot of people would have chosen to have their goods come in through Cotonou or even Lome.

That is one angle of seeing it, but definitely not the best nor the optimum angle. These services have enriched the live of millions of people. A criminal will always find a way to his trade facebook or no facebook. Besides, if you Nigerians have decided to misuse the social media, you cant generalize to the rest of the world where these things serve the purpose of their creations. If you think these things are devils work, I indeed wonder what you are doing on Nairaland or why you use the computer or a telephone. You should as a matter of purity do away with these sinful things, because without them, you should be a SAINT if I understood you well.

Would you leave the boy alone. Is it not the same useless Nigerian Armed Forces that have made Nigeria a pariah state? Is it not the damned Armed forces that dont respect civil authorities and the laws of the land? Is it not the Nigerian millitary that were raping civilians and playing diamonds baron in Liberia and Sierra Leone? Every institution in Nigeria is rotten and the coupist forces of Nigeria played a very big role in it.

Don't mind him! He seems not to know how Nigeria works. Somebody who paid 130 million for a plot of land can afford to bribe the police to perform their duty. I equally paid for the services rendered to me when I was robbed sometimes ago. I needed police statement to tender at the place of my residence, so I had no choice but to pay for the services.

PoliticsRe: Labaran Maku Disgraced At June 12 20th Anniversary by Ilaje44(m): 1:12am On Jun 19, 2013
Diasporan: I took my time to watch and digest the video and didn't see anywhere the Minister was disgraced.Infact i don't use to be his fan but after this video i started having a rethink about him.Even some of the Speakers acknowledged his dexterity and finese in handling issues and even said the President was opportune to have his kind of person serve as the Minister of Information. He made his points clear and for Dino's own speech same old story of accusation of the Petroleum Minister.Nigeria is a democratic Government therefore concern citizens like Dino and his likes can simply take her to court. We all remember the story of Godwin Oru and Goodnews Agbi taking the Former Delta state Governor to court on corruption and Ex-convict charges. If she is found guilty then the law takes her toll on the accused Minister.Like Maku pointed out the case is in the court.Cause one can't be sacked on mere accusation and in few cases after being indicted by committees i believe so in this case.
A regular visitor of NL especially if you are living in diaspora you will think the country's future is bleak and all those opposing the Government are saint.Minister Maku made a salient point at the beginning of his speech 0:50 That "Some people have this perception that everybody in Government is a leper and that some after living the Government tend to want to see themselves as Saint" those are words on a marble. The lack of constructive criticism by the Opposition lay credence to that Mr. Maku's statement which is not far from the truth. What makes a real Democratic government operate smoothly is the ability of opposition to tender reasonable and constructive criticism and not just what they can manufacture in order to stair or ignite the polity. In a saner Democratic clime infact some reasonable criticism are considered by the serving administration especially if it is for the betterment of the masses but in Nigeria it is the other way round.Instead blogs and nasty forums are created to malign the administration i.e THIS USELESS THREAD.The issue of Nigeria really gives me a sleepless night considering the fact that i still have my friends and loved ones back there.Lastly i must praise Labaran Maku for attending such an occasion and standing to defend his Boss achievement so far on the power sector. It shows he the Minister is focused and not deterred and also humble and not scared of being lampooned by the progressives.Indeed he is a man of the people.Once an Aluta is always an Aluta.Mr.Maku i dough my hat for you

You are making reasonable observations. I'd advice that you go home and see something for yourself. However, I must warn you that Nigeria is far from be a reasonable Country.
