how many of us used to get SOON magazines about 7 years ago? I culled this from one of them. E don tey wey people dey encourage people make them go school go learn not just collect paper called certificate, u no fit do anytin 4 community ![]() OUR THEME FOR SEPTEMBER WAS EDUCATION. ALTHOUGH SEPTEMBER IS MOSTLY KNOWN AS THE BEGINNING OF A NEW SCHOOL YEAR FOR MOST SCHOOLS WE MUST ASK OURSELVES WHAT DO WE WANT TO DO WITH OUR EDUCATION. CAN WE RE-CALL OUR SCHOOL DAYS WITH JOY OR WITH SHAME AND REGRET? LET US REVIEW THIS STORY WE GOT FROM SOON MAGAZINE SOME TIME AGO: " I T H O U G H T I W O U L D F A I L " Mphatso's story tells how God helped him when he was taking his exams. My name is Mphatso and I come from Misuku, Malawi. I passed my exam because God helped me. This is a true story about what happened to me. I was in form two. About three weeks before we were to write our exams, I felt very ill. My friends were all studying for the exams, but all I could do was sleep. I could not read because of the bad pains I had. I was still ill when the exam time came. I said to God, "I will fail, I feel so ill. Please help me." Then the day for the exam results came. I had passed! I told my friends and they did not believe me. But God had helped me when I could not help myself. " I P A S S E D B Y C H E A T I N G " Lawrence is a SOON reader from Lagos State, Nigeria. He had to learn a lesson about taking exams - that it is not right to cheat. But he also learned that it is not enough just to say "sorry". We must try to put right the wrong we have done. I did not have good marks for my exams when I finished studying at secondary school. I took the exams two more times and still my marks were not good. Then a friend told me to enroll for the National Teachers' Institute. It was a two-year course. I now know that what I did during the exams was not good... "Don't cheat" Before the exams began, God told me in my mind several times, "Don't cheat." But I did not listen because I knew it was not easy for me to get good marks in exams. I did not cheat in the first paper, but after that, I took my note-book into the exams. I copied the answers from it. I passed the exams with very good marks. I knew in my mind that this was wrong. I felt guilty and ashamed. I asked God to forgive me. I thought this was all I needed to do, so I used my good exam results to go on further with my education. I was able to go to Kwara State College of Education. I went to the lessons, but I did not have peace in my mind. I thought, "You have done wrong. The result is not yours." Then I would say to myself, "I have said I am sorry to God so it is all right." These thoughts did not give me any peace. "I asked for help" At last I went to the leaders of my church to ask for help. They told me that it is not enough to say sorry to God. I must show that I am sorry by putting right what I did wrong. For me, that meant telling the principal (leader) of the college that I cheated in the exams. I should not have got into the college. I wrote a letter to him, telling him what I had done. I took the letter to the principal's office and gave it to his secretary. She read the letter. "If this gets to the principal you will go to prison," she said. This made me very afraid. The secretary said, "Go away and think about it." "Surprise!" I went back to the church leaders and told them what the secretary said. They said I must still go to the principal. So the next day, I went back. I saw the secretary first and told her, "I want to see the principal." She took me to him. Do you know, he was good to me. He told me not to be afraid but to go to the person who was in charge of the exams. I was to tell him what I had done. That person let me take the exams again. I passed! Now I am back at the college, but, more important, God has taken away the feelings of guilt and I have peace in my mind. Something to think about Is there something you have done wrong in the past, and you feel guilty and ashamed? God will forgive you when you ask him. But sometimes you need to put things right with the person you have wronged. This is what Lawrence did. Maybe you have stolen something - you need to give back what you have stolen or pay for it. Maybe you have said something unkind to someone - you need to ask them to forgive you, as well as asking God to forgive you. It is not an easy thing to do, but God will help you. It will bring peace into your mind and heal the friendship between you and your family or friend. ... be inspired, motivated and encouraged! By Max Philisaire When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in an Australian country town, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value. Later, when the nurses were going through his meagre possessions, They found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Melbourne. The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas editions of magazines around the country and appearing in mags for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem. And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet. Cranky Old Man What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see? What are you thinking .. . when you're looking at me? A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise, Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. with faraway eyes? Who dribbles his food .. . ... . . and makes no reply. When you say in a loud voice . .'I do wish you'd try!' Who seems not to notice . . .the things that you do. And forever is losing . . . . . .. . . A sock or shoe? Who, resisting or not . . . ... lets you do as you will, With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill? Is that what you're thinking?. .Is that what you see? Then open your eyes, nurse .you're not looking at me. I'll tell you who I am . . . . .. As I sit here so still, As I do at your bidding, .. . . . as I eat at your will. I'm a small child of Ten . .with a father and mother, Brothers and sisters .. . . .. . who love one another A young boy of Sixteen . . . .. with wings on his feet Dreaming that soon now . . .. . . a lover he'll meet. A groom soon at Twenty . . . ..my heart gives a leap. Remembering, the vows .. .. .that I promised to keep. At Twenty-Five, now . . . . .I have young of my own. Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home. A man of Thirty . .. . . . . My young now grown fast, Bound to each other . . .. With ties that should last. At Forty, my young sons .. .have grown and are gone, But my woman is beside me . . to see I don't mourn. At Fifty, once more, .. ...Babies play 'round my knee, Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me. Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead. I look at the future ... . . . . I shudder with dread. For my young are all rearing .. . . young of their own. And I think of the years . . . And the love that I've known. I'm now an old man . . . . . . .. and nature is cruel. It's jest to make old age . . . . . . . look like a fool. The body, it crumbles .. .. . grace and vigour, depart. There is now a stone . . . where I once had a heart. But inside this old carcass . A young man still dwells, And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells I remember the joys . . . . .. . I remember the pain. And I'm loving and living . . . . . . . life over again. I think of the years, all too few . . .. gone too fast. And accept the stark fact . . . that nothing can last. So open your eyes, people .. . . . .. . . open and see. Not a cranky old man . Look closer . . . . see .. .. . .. .... . ME!! Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within. We will all, one day, be there, too! PLEASE SHARE THIS POEM! The best and most beautiful things of this world can't be seen or touched. They must be felt by the heart!... be inspired, motivated and encouraged

happy to have attended in 2009. Nigeria has too many great things yet it is in a state of ... God help us, we need help. |
OUR THEME FOR THIS MONTH IS HEALTH. Received from yahoo mail Did you know that being in good health makes you have a good appearance? Some people who look attractive are actually battling one internal ailment or the other. But true health and good appearance can come as easy as this wonderful poem written by Audrey Hepburn. She wrote it when she was asked to share her "beauty tips." It was read at her funeral years later. For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others. If you share this with a woman, something good will happen...you will boost another woman's self esteem, and she will know that you care about her. Psalm 67:1, 2 God be merciful to us & bless us; & cause His face to shine upon us; That Your way may be known on earth, Your saving health among all nations. ... be inspired, motivated and encouraged!

hi NLers, i guess this most will help my earlier complaints against airtel. i bought N200 credit to test them. but they cannot go Scott free from stealing my N500 credit, so help this is a serious SOS that is preventing me from evening looking at my phone or checking my airtel account balance. On Sunday i bought N500 airtel credit in a bus park since i was embarking on a trip. i loaded it and it was successful. i now had a balance of about N508 thereabout. between Sunday and Monday i kept receiving e-job 'flash' messages (not even proper sms) that i kept ignoring them as i was not interested, the jobs were not in my area and I DID NOT SUBSCRIBE FOR E-JOB ALERTS. By Tuesday i sent a text and received an airtel notification that my text was sent at N4 and my balance is now N124!!! i was livid! i called customer care immediately and they told me i had subscribed for e-job alerts! i told them i did no such thing because: -i have a job to God's glory -i have worked for a number of years -my phone is not touch screen so they is no question of if i mistakenly subscribed the customer care agent gave many gibberish excuses and told me she would unsubscribe from their centre and gave me a format and a number to text to also unsubscribe. i did still wondering how i would get my over N330 credit e-job alerts had taken. By Wednesday i still got the alerts and kept checking my credit balance. to my chagrin i kept watching N30 being taken away with each passing text which were coming in bulk. i called the customer care line 3 different times, spoke to different people and insisted on speaking with their supervisor which i finally did. none of the conversations i had with them yielded anything positive. i was told my credit would not be refunded and i will have to wait for 12 hours before i am removed from the e-job subscription! by then i had N34. after raked for them. i cut the call and got the next e-job alert which also took the last N30! Nlers i wish to pursue this matter because: -what is the guarantee that if i re-charge my phone i will not be debited again -why should my money go? if i had loaded N1000 or more is that how i would have lost my money -if i had only one line would i have been stranded for the irresponsibility of airtel and overzealous service providers -i am not the only one that has experienced this -i did not subscribe why should i be automatically made to pay for what i dd not ask for I would post this in every possible thread until it gets the attention of airtel. if anyone know how i can reach NCC to complain pls tell is there any other way i can get justice is NCC the only regulatory body how do i get a more authoritative airtel staff to address this matter? Help oh... because sadly i have had this line since Econet (2003) imagine how they are treating such a long time customer. AIRTEL SCAM ALERT |

Please read this: Ever wondered why it's so hard to find a job in Nigeria ? Mr. Ebipade Chukwuemeka Bosun Balarabe had just been retrenched from a high flying job, and now he set out hoping to bounce back into the job market. He started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6a.m. While his coffee pot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG) , and bathed with his sponge (FROM SOUTH AFRICA) and soap (from Ivory Coast ) and sprayed his designer perfume (from France ) . He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN BANGLADESH, IMPORTED FROM DUBAI), designer jeans (MADE IN SOUTH AFRICA) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast on his new electric cooker (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN JAPAN) according to BBC (BROADCASTING FROM LONDON) time, he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY AND REFURBISHED IN BELGIUM) and continued his search for a good paying NIGERIAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, he decided to relax for a while. He sat on his leather couch (MADE IN CANADA) reading a best-seller novel (PUBLISHED IN USA). After a while he wanted to refresh himself. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), to CNN (TRANSMITTED FROM AMERICA) and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in..... NIGERIA...! LEARN TO PATRONIZE MADE IN NIGERIA GOODS SO THAT WE CAN CREATE MORE JOBS FOR OURSELVES ... be inspired, motivated and encouraged! PS: don't wait for BMB to eat Amala in a London restaurant or Atiku to send his kids to AUN or Osinbanjo to spend his vacation in Ikogosi or Aisha Buhari to use Nigerian ankara or ... you get the message, let it start from us, let us love Nigeria.
