Skye bank is a good offer only because all banks in this country are making crazy profits, including skye bank. However the problem you will have will be this oversubscription thing and so a larger % of your money will be returned to you as unalotted. I will advice you thread with caution. There is a banana skin lying on the public offer floors. |
@pumping, you mean other stocks like UBA and Inter? UBA is overipe for picking, I only wonder why it is still glued to the floor. |
Saw it somewhere earlier this evening, that FBN is on bid. Another flight waiting to také off, |

Stock brokers trying to shift up their starting capital by asking prospective investors to pay more to get a cscs account should be commended. I have noticed that they offer better services than those that do business with just about everybody. Sometimes last year, I warned that within a short time getting a cscs account will become more costly and difficult for the lower income bracket, many people refused to see my point. I went shopping for a stockbroker and got the following entry prices for a cscs account; IBTC 10 mil, ZSL. 5 mil. Cashcraft 1 mil. FUSL 500k. CSL 250k. Other lesser houses accept 100k or less. I dont mean to annoy anybody but there is something wrong with our ppl. I went around asking family and friends to go on and invest since five yrs ago, none did, then it was easier to buy shares. Stocks were cheap, stock brokers were begging for customers, but nobody was interested. Now there is a rush and the stock brokers has raised the bar, then we start complaining. Where were we when lesser money was collected? For the peeps that just found out about stocks, I urge you to keep trying, dont lose hope. If you really want to invest and you dont have the required cash, keep saving. Buy PO and keep trying. I am not critisizing anybody with this post, its just to ginger us to try harder and invest while we can, it could be 1 million minimum next year. Tell your friends to buy shares, encourage them if you can, dont hide your knowledge. |

I had been holding cornerstone for the better part of seven months without breaking even, as it was a planned short term trade I just dumped the ones I have last week and the stock developed wings. It has been flying since this week, pls dont console me, I brought this on myself. This trading stocks sef. There are times you will feel the stock is just waiting for you to exit before shooting up to heaven. |
it will certainly not predict the NSE any day, look at FBN with a very good result just announced, did a one day rise and fell the very next day? There used to be a time when a good result always guarantees a two weeks sustained bid. But these days, traders has turned everything on its head. Part of the explanation is the uniform calendar for banks. Most market insiders seem to think some banks will delay results till end of this yr. All the same, let us watch and see. |

@ebony9ja, I am surprised nobody has mentioned the UTC magic rise, I got in at 4.38, very heavy baggage. Now am staring at a 22% rise in 8 days. I think I will jump out tomorrow, got other plans for early next week. |
@question, you are very correct, but GIGO could also mean garbage in garbage out. |
@frankiriri, God will erase your pain with his soothing love, také heart. |

I got this talent to just pick a paper and fill it with good write ups, and I have millions of experiences, both real and imagined, I have seen all of naija, Need i go on? I think I am most suited for this blogging thing, let me find out more on how to set it up, run it and most importantly, make money from it. Ill be back. |
@kpineo, naira cost averaging is a technique which we leant from the American guys, Dollar cost averaging. It is a trading technique meant to reduce the cost of your initial purchase cost, if the price goes down after you have bought. Supposing you bought 100k units at 6 naira and it starts to fall to 5 naira, instead of crying over loss of 100 k naira, you get back and purchase the stock, another 100k units at 5naira. You now see that your cost price for the total 200k units is now N5.50. It can be repeated several times as a stock continus to go down, if it gains a little, start to sell the units you bought cheapest. Remember, this strategy is only used for stocks with sound fundamentals, not for steady losers like (transcorp). Hope this helps, other gurus will help explain this strategy well. |
I have for sale OBJ frolicking with dauthter in-law, DVD cost 100,000! |
For ikeja hotels, i am not selling at all. I will watch it go down, I have a 10% after comm profit but I think there will be a bigger wave to surf, am hanging in there guys. I will do an averaging down buying if it goes lower than my entry point. |
@ACL, let the stockbroker hold on to the AIICO, it will rise immediately after TS is lifted on the stock, as for Lasaco, it is not looking too bad now. You still have two months to wait from the tone of your post, so hang on there, AIICO may do a 50% after TS is off. |
kauskey:@kauskey, correction effected. |
Early feelers from the market today shows that NB have gained 2.20. Is this an indicator of what will happen? Is any pending results ready to be released? Insurance stocks control all the big volume. |
@wanajo, windy, mypeace, which mysterious company are you ppl talking about? which company is giving one for one? |
grabdaloot:As per the uncertainities surrounding the stock market, there will never be a time everything will be assured to be working together in any market in the world. It is in fact the uncertainities that make investing a 'risk' however we will remain watchful of another election, let the foreigners sit on the fence as long as they like, others are entering through the back door. If another election comes up this year, it will not make things as bad as they were in 1992-93, but people were buying stocks even back then. Infact, good short termers will see opportunity to load up as many as possible, this is the strategy I refer to as 'BAD NEWS INVESTING' |
@roughcut, UNIC ins. has a P/E of 50+, and you are recommending it, what of Lasaco at 7+ and linkage at 7+. Are those ones not better buys? or am I missing something here? |
Another problem that the banking uniform closure dates will bring will be, pressure on the few audit firms and regulators as to doing three or more bank's end year results at the same time. Except they recruit more workers, it will be a tough call. We will now be able to see; the fast banks, the lazy ones, the fraudulent ones, the confused ones and the efficient ones. Taken that some banks will be made to report their FY later than nessessary, the price may decrease in the stock market as short timers find it less appealing, positioning wise. The reverse may be the case for banks which will report incomplete years as to join the uniformed arrangement. See proshare for more of the implications and the names of such banks. |
@freelance, I am using blackberry from MTN to reply, seems cheaper than that of GLO, total cost 63000, monthly subscription of 5000 for web access. |
Well, until I read such news from vanguard, guardian, independent, punch, this day ,d other top dailies. Some papers, in their desperation to increase circulation, publish popular rumor. This may be the thoughts of the writer only that was published. |
@ iconbull, no I would not make a good pilot, I will exit too soon from that flight, I will duck if it gets to 8.00. |
You had 8.3m returned after how many months? LOANS! And to think you took the loan for about a year, how many more months do you have to pay back? LOANS! And somebody wants to také 40 heavy ones? |
With all the bad news and negative press cadbury has been getting of late, I feel the dust is about to settle and the company may start rebuilding its battered image. Is it time to approach cadbury? |
I have had cases where mails have been delayed to infinitum, all my AGM notice letters arrive late, making me miss the occesions, tell us how the public can help NIPOST perform better, or we will believe the rot in that place is as a result of incompetence of all the workers there. If I become president by one slim chance, I will either privatize that place or sell it outright, so that private sector seriousness can enter into their blood. |
