InvestmentRe: Skyebank Shares. What Is Your Opinion. by invisible2(m): 10:41pm On Feb 01, 2008
Skye bank is a good offer only because all banks in this country are making crazy profits, including skye bank.

However the problem you will have will be this oversubscription thing and so a larger % of your money will be returned to you as unalotted.

I will advice you thread with caution. There is a banana skin lying on the public offer floors.

InvestmentRe: Minimum Of =n=200,000 To Have A Cscs Account Starting From 1 Jan 2008 by invisible2(m): 7:19am On Feb 01, 2008
Stock brokers trying to shift up their starting capital by asking prospective investors to pay more to get a cscs account should be commended. I have noticed that they offer better services than those that do business with just about everybody.

Sometimes last year, I warned that within a short time getting a cscs account will become more costly and difficult for the lower income bracket, many people refused to see my point. I went shopping for a stockbroker and got the following entry prices for a cscs account; IBTC 10 mil, ZSL. 5 mil. Cashcraft 1 mil. FUSL 500k. CSL 250k. Other lesser houses accept 100k or less.

I dont mean to annoy anybody but there is something wrong with our ppl. I went around asking family and friends to go on and invest since five yrs ago, none did, then it was easier to buy shares. Stocks were cheap, stock brokers were begging for customers, but nobody was interested. Now there is a rush and the stock brokers has raised the bar, then we start complaining. Where were we when lesser money was collected?

For the peeps that just found out about stocks, I urge you to keep trying, dont lose hope. If you really want to invest and you dont have the required cash, keep saving. Buy PO and keep trying.

I am not critisizing anybody with this post, its just to ginger us to try harder and invest while we can, it could be 1 million minimum next year.

Tell your friends to buy shares, encourage them if you can, dont hide your knowledge.

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by invisible2(m): 9:33pm On Jan 31, 2008
it will certainly not predict the NSE any day, look at FBN with a very good result just announced, did a one day rise and fell the very next day?

There used to be a time when a good result always guarantees a two weeks sustained bid. But these days, traders has turned everything on its head. Part of the explanation is the uniform calendar for banks. Most market insiders seem to think some banks will delay results till end of this yr.

All the same, let us watch and see.

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by invisible2(m): 10:18pm On Jan 29, 2008
@kpineo, naira cost averaging is a technique which we leant from the American guys, Dollar cost averaging.

It is a trading technique meant to reduce the cost of your initial purchase cost, if the price goes down after you have bought.

Supposing you bought 100k units at 6 naira and it starts to fall to 5 naira, instead of crying over loss of 100 k naira, you get back and purchase the stock, another 100k units at 5naira.

You now see that your cost price for the total 200k units is now N5.50. It can be repeated several times as a stock continus to go down, if it gains a little, start to sell the units you bought cheapest.

Remember, this strategy is only used for stocks with sound fundamentals, not for steady losers like (transcorp).

Hope this helps, other gurus will help explain this strategy well.

@ACL, let the stockbroker hold on to the AIICO, it will rise immediately after TS is lifted on the stock, as for Lasaco, it is not looking too bad now.

You still have two months to wait from the tone of your post, so hang on there, AIICO may do a 50% after TS is off.

grabdaloot:
All above are trailing PE's I don't think any insurace company has a PE less than 25 at the moment. People are just buying because of the growth potential associated with the sector.

As per the newspaper article, there is no smoke without fire. A lot of foreign investors are sitting on the fence watching especially with Oga presidents election still on a cliff hanger. If the Courts rule against it, that will make 2008 an election year. Not good at all even if it is for my short term benefits but hold on, I am a short term speculator ain't I wink
As per the uncertainities surrounding the stock market, there will never be a time everything will be assured to be working together in any market in the world. It is in fact the uncertainities that make investing a 'risk' however we will remain watchful of another election, let the foreigners sit on the fence as long as they like, others are entering through the back door.

If another election comes up this year, it will not make things as bad as they were in 1992-93, but people were buying stocks even back then. Infact, good short termers will see opportunity to load up as many as possible, this is the strategy I refer to as 'BAD NEWS INVESTING'

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by invisible2(m): 8:44am On Jan 28, 2008
Another problem that the banking uniform closure dates will bring will be, pressure on the few audit firms and regulators as to doing three or more bank's end year results at the same time. Except they recruit more workers, it will be a tough call.

We will now be able to see; the fast banks, the lazy ones, the fraudulent ones, the confused ones and the efficient ones.

Taken that some banks will be made to report their FY later than nessessary, the price may decrease in the stock market as short timers find it less appealing, positioning wise. The reverse may be the case for banks which will report incomplete years as to join the uniformed arrangement.

See proshare for more of the implications and the names of such banks.

BusinessRe: Improving NIPOST (The Nigerian Postal Service) by invisible2(m): 9:59pm On Jan 27, 2008
I have had cases where mails have been delayed to infinitum, all my AGM notice letters arrive late, making me miss the occesions, tell us how the public can help NIPOST perform better, or we will believe the rot in that place is as a result of incompetence of all the workers there.

If I become president by one slim chance, I will either privatize that place or sell it outright, so that private sector seriousness can enter into their blood.
