Hey guys, we should pray that all polytechnic in the country be upgraded to university. this is the only solution to the problem. the name HND is absolutely useless. am a leaving witness. you can't compare the opportunities a BSC holder will get to the one available to HND holders.
Let all the HND holders form a forum and solicite for FG support to save the polytechnic in the country.

Pally the issue is not converting polytechnics to universities, but changing the name of the certificate frm HND to BTech, Bsc and so on.

Yes o, just like Germany where they award Diploma and the value given to it is that of a Bachelors Degree. In Ireland too, Higher Diplama has a value that is more than that of a Bachelors Degree; its value is equivalent to that of a PGD.

I did mine is operations research.

i did LP in Operations Research too. i was wondering the school the other guy attended where Linear programming is taught as a topic in Numerical Analysis, because in Nigeria LP is a topic in Ops Research or QA/QT.

Ishmeal, I did the same thing when I was in the school. I was the first programmer that was able to design it and get it distributed but I did it Q-basic. If u need it I will give but if you want me to do it in any other language you may have to pay for my biz time.

Q-basic own if free with code.
I even went ahead to arrange it in Maximation , minimization and mixed contraint, so u choose the one u need from the program and it does it for you.

i told u i read it on Daily trust newspaper wednesday 27/06/2007. The news is on page 3. Try and get d paper you will see it.

The discrimination against polytechnic graduates has been laid to rest in peace now that the Federal Government has reversed the proposed merger of polytechnics with universities. FG also want polytechnics to run MTech and PhD degrees. Polytechnic lecturers will now have 65 years as their retiring age like their university counterparts. Yar'adua is really an educationist.

FG have reversed the merger of polytechnics with universities. They said they want polytechnics to exist as independent institutions and to run MTech and PhD programs in addition to to the existing ND and HND programs. i just saw in one of the dailies now, Daily trust that FG has reversed the merger abi na acquisition of universities and polytechnics. That they want polytechnics to remain as independent institutions and to run MTech and PhD programs.

Don't mind that guy that does nt know what he is saying, calling polytechnics glorified technical schools. He has forgotten that most polytechnics are even bigger and better equipped than many universities. Is kadpoly not bigger and better than many universities?? is YabaTech not bigger and better than so many universities?? is that not why they want to convert them to universities? Kadpoly has been helping FUT minna to run some of it's technical courses like BEd (Tech). Yabatech has been doing same too for some universities.

What I percieve as the major difference is that in the Polytechnic, lecturers spoil students . They go to the library, search for all relevant materials, form notes/handouts and give to students as ready-made lecture notes.

And who told you that university lecturers don't give notes/handouts to their students?? please speak on what you know very well and not what you don't know.

In Nigeria the HND syllabus looks better and richer than that of the BEng and BTech. The problem is that nigerians look at HND the sme way British look at HND today, but there is a clear distinction between HND in Nigeria and HND in the UK. HND in Nigeria is even richer than BSc, BEng and BTech in the UK.

nigeria is the only country i know that the price of fuel keeps going up. i thought the wholw idea was that it fluctuates. if in 8 years the price of fuel has increased from N11 to what it is now, then i wonder what kind of future lies for us
