PoliticsRe: Why Buhari Should Not Release Nnamdi Kanu – Northern Elders by JaroMan: 7:38am On Nov 30, 2021
Aufbauh:
I've reiterated it time without numbers that the only political solution in the case of Kanu is to accord him a fair trial and allow justice to take it full course.

Erroneously releasing Nnamdi Kanu on any grounds other than the judicial process will give rise to sectional warlords.

Ipob supporters wouldn’t agree that their organization is a terrorist group but won’t stop comparing them with boko haram. Very funny set of people.
You can't build something on nothing. FG has no ground to take Kanu to court because how Kanu came to Nigeria is still under legal scrutiny. Thought you know this?
The worst that will happen is death. If the guy remains alive, he will be out either Buhari or the next president. He can't be jailed by court.

I'm 100% sure this group has the blessing of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, Jagaban.
So how do rate the chances of a man that sponsors chaos in his party?
Like I've always maintained, Tinubu and Osibanjo will take back seat when the main politicking starts.
Who does he have in the South? He distroyed Rivers APC in order to scheme Amaechi out.
Amaechi is eyeing Aso Rock
He destroyed Edo state so that no one will be ranking higher than Adams.
He used Gulak against Okorocha in Imo. Rochas is eyeing Aso Rock
He used Ogun gov, Abiodun and put chaos in Anambra APC.
Sponsored northern youths against Orji Kalu.
When he sensed delegate primary won't favor him because he has many enemies within the party, he used his contacts in NASS to make direct primary mandatory.
Now, the electoral act is delayed because even the governors of APC kicked against it.
Tinubu's chance of emerging candidate is very slim. That's why Yakasai told him that he will wait after the primary to reply him.

Tinubu and Osibanjo want to be president without the president's men.
Buhari has disclosed his agreement with Tinubu to a couple of people.
Tinubu will nominate VP, Works, Power and housing ministers. Tinubu will get finance. Buhari has fulfilled these promises. That's why the president is unfazed about his illusive ambition.
Just note: one Buni precides over that convention, then it's over for Tinubu.
And once Buni is pushed out, some governors will work against the party especially if PDP plays ball.

That's where you guys are getting it wrong..The so called Yoruba separatist group has no home support...In fact I will say Igboho has more Igbos supporters than yorubas.. everyone knows this.

Boko Haram issues has nothing to do with separation..infact,they are currently meeting strong resistance by their people.. you can see the establishment of civilians JTF which consist mainly of locals. They've killed several Boko Haram members.

The so called Ijaw flag is not different from Igboho's group, few hungry men looking for recognition..

Also, all these people people do there things without throwing vituperative remarks to others enthic group. You guys exhibit your hatred openly for the country.Go to twitter, Facebook even here on nairaland you guys always demarket the country in any slight opportunity. you rejoice when the country is plung into any form of crisis.Trust me we aren't blind.and you expect us to entrust such people with Leadership.Bro,when people say you guys should build bridges, correction to all of those listed act by majority of you is what we need.see the country as your own and work for it betterment both online and offline.

And lastly,Tinubu opinion is not Yorubas opinion. Many Yorubas didn't vote Awolowo in 1979, expect same to happen in 2023.

One question Bro,don't you think it's right time you guys look inward and ask yourselves the reason why you are the only ethnic group that has trust issues with every other Nigerians?
From the last paragraph: Igbos have no trust issues in Nigeria. They've been VP after the civil war. They've been SP in this dispensation. They've been SGF in this dispensation. So where is the issue of trust? What you guys from South West do is to amplify the grey areas and use to play dirty politics. It didn't start today. Awolowo employed it and dislodged Zik in western house.
Yea, subterfuge is an act of political warfare, but it comes with a price. A price of trust.
Why is it that the only person trusted by the rest of Nigeria from South West is the person you loathe so much?
Yorubas are not trustworthy in national politics. That is why a national party like PDP has found it so difficult to give them national chairman. The one in APC, Bisi Akande started playing tribal cards and he was shown the way out. They infected same tribal politics to Adams, and he was booted out.
Do you know why MKO couldn't be president? Lack of trust.
Do you know why Abacha has to chase away Shonekan Who was billed for transition program? Lack of trust.
What of Oladipo Diya? It is in monumental scale. But high ranking Igbos don't trumpet these things because of rule of engagement. Because it's a Southern thing. But Yorubas won't waste anytime to amplify little things done by Igbos.
What did Abraham Adesanya daughter told Oby Ezekwesili during NEC under OBJ? I leave you to find out.
You said Igboho has no home support?
And OBJ, Soyinka, Akintoye, and SANs lined up for him. And Makinde lamented when security invaded his home. And he moves with crowd of young people. What other support do you call home? His parents and siblings?
You said Boko Haram is facing opposition in the north? And they given amnesty? Buhari said attack on them is attack on north. And they senators are mediating for them? And governors are courting them? You haven't read these things in the news? Don't they will crawl to your house.
Ijaw flag is akin to Yoruba Nations flag? But they are not the same with IPOB flag? Because they are made of different cotton material?
Selective justice killed nations of old, I will kill Nigeria if you and your likes fail to retrace your steps.

just a question for u

What is d bargaining chip of the igbo for APC presidency?
Do igbos like APC?
So u believe they will still zone their ticket to u despite what u did in anambra guber election?

Let me b factual with u,south east is politically unstable n no party can risk giving it's mandate to u

Any party tgat zones presidency to d south east has lost automatically b4 election
For the records, APC is only the ruling party and not the only party. So losing their ticket is not the end of the road.
However, I remember in 1999, PDP wasn't accepted in SW, but PDP have OBJ the ticket. PDP knew SW won't vote PDP, so the didn't bother to campaign there. SE, SS, NC and NW voted PDP and they won. Even in NE where Atiku comes from, it was 50-50 between APP and PDP.
So why will the bar be raised so high now? Or is it because of Igbos?
Also currently, South East has 2 APC govs. Does it mean these two states hate APC?
In Anambra election, APC scored close to 50k votes. Does it mean these 50k people hate APC?
In 2017, APC score close to 100k votes and came 2nd in Anambra election. Did it imply that these people hated APC? Oh now I know: they are Igbos and must be stereotyped.
Orji Kalu won his Senate fair and square in Abia. Does it mean his senatorial zone hated APC?
Why have we chose to be selective in our judgement? Why being harsh on Igbos? Oh, because they're Igbos, let's amplify their lows and overlook their highs.
Should we say SW hates APC because of Oyo state? Ok, you talk of majority? Is PDP in the majority in SE? It neither here nor there.
Finally, in 2023 Igbos are giving the rest of the country a lifeline. If they like they should take it or reject it. But just know that the consequences will be dire if they reject it.

You my dear, as far back in 90s, Tinubu had said he doesn't believe in one Nigeria. But today, he junkets up and down saying he wants to be president.
The only problem you lots have with Igbos is because 'it is Igbos', so let's trumpet it.

Ndigbo and fallacy of power not served a la carte
November 25, 2021

By Ikechukwu Amaechi
NIGERIANS love clichés to bits. But if there is anything they love more than clichés, it is their penchant to determine the fate of Ndigbo based on pre-conceived notions. As the curtain is slowly but inexorably being drawn on the Muhammadu Buhari presidency and the political silly season is, once again, upon us, those two tendencies are manifest.

As 2023 beckons, the buzz phrase these days is the fallacy that power is not served a la carte. Interestingly, that banality is only voiced in reference to the legitimate clamour for a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.

You often hear people speaking tongue-in-cheek that “power is taken and not given”, ostensibly latching onto Gloria Steinem’s phrase that “nobody gives you power; you have to grab it,” without putting it in context as Steinem, an American feminist journalist and social political activist, did.

For instance, fielding questions on Arise Television on August 4, 2020, elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, former Liaison Officer to former President Shehu Shagari, said: “Igbos should not expect power to be served on them, they should build bridges if they want a president of Southeast extraction.” Yakasai insisted that “power is taken and not given.”

While the nature of power in itself involves contestation, the idea that it must always be taken and not given is not true. In Nigeria, power has always been served a la carte since independence in 1960.

When Shehu Shagari became president on October 1, 1979, he did not take power, it was given to him because his ambition was to become a senator before he was handed the presidential ticket of the National Party of Nigeria, NPN, at the party’s national convention held at the Casino Cinema, Yaba, on December 12, 1978.

Having been adopted by the Northern political establishment, he easily defeated other more flamboyant, wealthier and politically-astute aspirants like Maitama Sule, Adamu Ciroma, Dr. Olusola Saraki, Joseph Tarka and Professor Muhammed Iyi Abubakar in the primaries. He became Nigeria’s first executive president on a platter of group endorsement, and in spite of himself, having been served power a la carte.

Olusegun Obasanjo was in prison when the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was founded in August 1998 by former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, and other members of the G-34. Yet, in deciding who the party’s presidential candidate would be, Ekwueme, who rallied round the most potent opposition against General Sani Abacha’s transmutation agenda was by-passed for a reluctant Obasanjo. He was served power a la carte.

ALSO READ: Nnamdi Kanu: What political solution could achieve —Igbo Leaders
The late President Umaru Yar’Adua wanted to return to Ahmadu Bello University as a lecturer after his eight-year tour of duty in Katsina State as governor. He neither had the gumption, war-chest nor even the national name recognition to propel him to Aso Rock. Yet, he became president without any struggle. Simply put, he was handed the presidency on a platter of Obasanjo’s whims.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who had run on his own steam three times, only made it to Aso Rock when most Northerners felt that President Goodluck Jonathan’s quest for a second term was not only greed for power taken too far but an unpardonable breach of the rotation principle which favoured the North at the time.

Even members of the PDP from the North, including the then National Chairman, Adamu Mu`azu, worked against Jonathan. In Bauchi State, where Mu’azu was governor for eight years, PDP lost the 2015 presidential election to APC, scoring only 86,085 votes, a paltry 8.4 per cent as against 931,598 polled by APC.

Even during the military era, power was served a la carte to Yakubu Gowon after the bloody July 29, 1966 counter-coup by Northern military officers. He didn’t struggle to become Head of State.

The junior officers who overthrew Gowon in a palace coup d’état on July 29, 1975 handed power over to General Murtala Muhammed. General Joseph Garba, one of the architects of the coup who later became Minister of External Affairs, narrated how Murtala even gave them conditions for accepting the offer.

When Murtala was assassinated on February 13, 1976, reports had it that General Olusegun Obasanjo, his second in command, was reluctant stepping into his shoes. Rather than struggle for power, he was persuaded. So, why will it be different now simply because there is clamour for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction?

Yakasai talked about Ndigbo building bridges. Isn’t that what they have been doing even before the idea of Nigeria became a reality? There is hardly any Igbo leader of the old generation that was born in the South-East.

Both Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu were born in Zungeru, a town in Niger State, which was the capital of the British protectorate of Northern Nigeria from 1902 until 1916.

Presently, there is no community in Nigeria’s 774 local governments, no matter how remote, that you won’t find a resident Igbo. So, why is the bar being raised so high simply because Ndigbo are laying a claim to the national political diadem?

Before now, the question has been: where are the Igbo candidates? Now that some Igbo aspirants, including Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, a renowned pharmacist, founder and former CEO of Neimeth Pharmaceutical, former president of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, foundation president of the West African Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, former Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria; and Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, a lawyer, who became Senate president at the young age of 39, and also served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, have raised their hands to be counted, the story is changing.

Suddenly, zoning of political offices has become a taboo to some political actors. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who obviously wants to run again for the presidency in 2023, is now repudiating the PDP zoning principle.

Speaking at the 94th National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the PDP on Thursday, October 7, Atiku urged the party to be guided by the spirit of fairness and equity rather than zoning in determining the presidential candidate.

“Where the President comes from has never been the problem of Nigeria. It will not be the solution to the problems of Nigeria. There is no such thing as a president from Southern Nigeria or a president from Northern Nigeria.

There is only one president, a President of Nigeria, for Nigeria and by Nigerians,” he said. On the face value, there is nothing wrong with his position. But juxtapose it with his stance on the same issue at the 2011 PDP Convention when he squared against Jonathan, the hypocrisy jumps out.

Hear him then: “The founders of this party, in their wisdom, devised rules for the rotation of power between North and South in response to cries of marginalisation and domination. We wanted peace and justice to reign. And we put it in our Constitution (Section 7.2.c), and we all know what a Constitution means.

“That provision has not been altered. In 2002, an expanded caucus of our great party met and reaffirmed that policy…. I have always put Nigeria first before my personal interests and ambitions.”

So, what has changed? If rotation of power between North and South was desirable in 2011, what makes it undesirable in 2023? Truth be told, equity, fairness and social justice demands a Nigerian president of South-East extraction in 2023.

In which case, after eight years of a Muhammadu Buhari presidency, power should gravitate to the South. And it will be unconscionable for the South-West that has held the presidency and vice presidency for 16 solid years in a period of 24 years or the South-South that was there for five years to deny Ndigbo the opportunity.

But even if the only criterion for determining who becomes president in 2023 is competence, South-East has a glut of competent people. Fortunately, all those who have declared interest so far are not running because they are Igbo, but because they are competent, knowledgeable and proficient Nigerians, who possess the requisite skill sets to save their beloved country from implosion.

I'm an ardent crusader of Nigeria president of South East extraction; and I have not changed my stance and will never change.
I'm also a PDP member since 2014 and have held some positions in the party, including being a LGA RO is the just concluded Anambra election. Yes!
The above clarification becomes expedient because of my usual position and what someone might interpret the next paragraph of this short essay.
In APC, it is obvious that in 2023, a southerner will be the candidate: which South remains secondary.
In PDP, it's still cloudy where the president will come from, but because they're desperate to return to power, it's 70-30 between north and South there.
As a southerner, i will vote any party that projects Southerner. My reason is simple: South East will fare better under any southerner; be it South or West.
There is no different northerner. They are the same in ideology and purpose. Reason is: the one that call themselves 'core north' are not indigenous Nigerians. So all their scheming is to make sure they're entrenched.
So from Atiku to Tambuwal. From Bala to Dankwabo, all are following a pattern that will make sure the indigenous peoples of Nigeria are sitting on the edge, while they relax.
I will keep insisting that APC and PDP give their tickets to SE but in the event this fails to happen, I will go with South.
All these northern PDP will come and consolidate on the gains Buhari made for north. He will balkanize the south further to us weaker throw few carrot to some of us.
This is me going forward.

The above is not far from the truth and it also put a lie to the misleading headline. APC governors collectively are not hijacking any presidential ticket. Only very few APC governors are still fighting to get one of them the ticket. In fact, they are barely three at the moment. Once the convention is over, they will be shown the back seat.

As far as 2023 is concerned, most APC governors have taken sides between Asiwaju and Osinbajo. I won’t tell you who has more governors on his side but I’m sure it’s not too difficult to deduce. Things will start taking shape after the election and I won’t be surprised if the party ends up with a consensus candidate by middle of next year.

But i can tell you that as we speak, your federal gov’t has signed deals with Morocco (and heaven know who else) for the sale of gas....as well as embarked on a multi-billion dollar AKK gas pipeline that will take gas from the south-east to the north!

I also noticed that the headquarters of national and private oil and gas coys are located outside your south-east....if they’re not headquartered in Lagos, then it’s either Abuja or the south-south, but NEVER in your south-east! When the results of this injustice manifests itself (like increased IGR and VAT for the ‘lucky’ region concerned), you’d see them pointing finger at Ndigbo and the south-east as they howl with laughter!

Also, your federal gov’t has located ALL the multi-billion dollar gas projects (like gas plants or LNG) in the south-south! You may get a token gas plant in the south-east (like the one they decided to locate in Imo), but that’s just to fulfill all righteousness!
What you actually said is 100% true. The governors of South East are naive to say the least. The abundance of gas deposite in south east may not be beneficial to the south east.

helinues:
That's irrespective of those who have been attacking Buhari Like Ortom. If the state governors even after Fg oversighting them are still lazy in generating new income for survival, how can we trust this same state governors when Nigeria is restructured.

I am not saying I am against restructuring, but we need to see seriousness from our state governors.

2023 would decide the fate of all this regional security outfit
1st: you are against restructuring.
2nd: the money is not Buhari's money. It is rather the money domiciled in states. Or is there any state called FG?
3rd: Ortom is in opposition and must not be on same page with Abuja. And it must be his discretion on the manner: destructive or constructive.
So stop being parochial

In the political landscape today, 2023 is the rave of the moment.
Ahmed Tinubu has not said he is running.
Yomi Osibanjo has never come to say "I'm contesting".
Currently, the three people that are contesting are:
Pius Anyim
Mao Ohuabunwa and
Bukola Saraki.
Two from South East and one, north central.
What are we Igbos doing for these illustrious sons to boost their chances?
We are only fixated on those that have not said they will contest while leaving those that are contesting.
If you don't know Mao, you know Anyim. Project him and market him. But I will be glad if you know Mao Ohuabunwa. He is quintessential.
I also know there are names on the East we are waiting for their declaration, but since they're still consulting, let's shed more on the ones that have already declared.
Thank you
PoliticsRe: Anambra's Journey To Officially Becoming An Oil Producing State(photos) by JaroMan: 11:49am On Nov 24, 2021
Anambra’s journey to officially becoming an oil-producing state began in 2013 when Orient Petroleum Company, a private firm enterred into partnership with the state
government, and started producing oil in the Aguleri basin. But it is the Obiano administration which gave it impetus by designating Oil and Gas as his fourth Pillar of economic development.

In practical terms, Governor Obiano committed resources to stop the practice of accessing some oil prospecting facilities and wells in Anambra through neighboring states with the construction of the 280 metres Aguleri Otu bridge across Omambala river and the Umueje bridge. At Ogbaru Local Government Area years of illegal operations by Sterling Oil
Exploration and Energy Producing
Company of India in Ogwuaniocha and Ogwuikpele were checkmated while at the Anambra East Local Government Area end, claims by Kogi State over some oil wells are now subject to a fifty-fifty sharing formula, pending final resolution of the boundary claims.

Anambra's journey to oil bearing status is by no means easy, but the tough battle was surmounted thanks to Governor Obiano's wealth of experience in the sector, his doggedness, and deployment of competent hands on the task, the State is now officially an Oil Producing State. Consequently, in the books of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, the State is entitled to 13% of the sale of petroleum resources from 11 oil wells in its territory, namely, Nzam-1, Alo-1, Ameshi-1, 2, and 3, and Enyie-1, 2 , 3 and 4. There is no gainsaying the positive impact of the new status on the revenue profile of the state as well as the anticipated boost on infrastructural development programme of the government in the years ahead.

Interestingly, the Pillar One: Economic Transformation agenda articulated in The People's Manifesto by the Governor-elect of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo keys-in perfectly into the next phase of consolidation on the achievements of the four pillars of economic development of the Obiano administration. According to the Governor-elect: "We aim to transform Anambra State from a dorminantly informal commercial state to a Formal, Productive and Competitive Economy underpinned by rapid industrialization, Agriculture, Commerce, Entertainment/Leisure, and The Creative Economy, and Technology and Innovation, Solid Minerals and Oil and Gas."

All told, the building blocks of development for a safe and secure Anambra State laid under Obiano's blueprint for economic development where everyone has opportunity to create wealth is in sync with Soludo's new deal for a liveable and prosperous homeland.

Lalasticlala
As Onye Anambra, I'm always happy seeing some of the steps taken to improve the state because it is one that means too many.
But then, we supporters of these politicians tend to forget how transient power is.
In all that was said here, one will assume this step started in 2013. But NO!
In fact, what Obiano did was those bridges which are commendable, but as for Anambra being oil producing state, it has been a relay race won already and Obiano finished it.
I don't want to mention names, but keen followers of events in Anambra since 1999 till date will attest to this.
Thank you for the efforts.
PoliticsRe: Guru Maharaj: Why Nnamdi Kanu Can’t Be Compared To Sunday Igboho by JaroMan: 6:02am On Nov 23, 2021
adenigga:
The founder of One Love Family, Sat Guru Maharaj Ji, has said Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Igboho cannot be compared to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Maharaji Ji said unlike Igboho, the IPOB leader was directing people to fight.

He accused the IPOB leader of using his platform, Radio Biafra, to cajole his followers into fighting.

Maharaji Ji said the Yoruba freedom fighter stopped the killing in Ibarapa area of Oyo State.

“Everybody has right to present themselves, you can’t compare Ighoho with Nnamdi Kanu who has a radio station telling the people to fight and fight, even though we can’t be sure it is the Kanu’s boys who go about burning down police stations everywhere for any reason or so ever.

“Sunday Igboho stopped the Killings going on in Ibarapa; that was how he won my love. I supported him in that area, he stopped those doing evil,” he told SaharaReporters.

Kanu was recently rearrested by the Nigerian government and repatriated to Nigeria.

The IPOB leader is believed to have been apprehended in Kenya, though the Nigerian government is silent on where he was nabbed.

However, the Department of State Services, DSS, had recently invaded Igboho’s residence but he escaped arrest.

Both secessionists are currently leading the vanguard for the Oduduwa Republic and Biafra.

Have you seen the matter?
For the records, no high ranking Igbo man has condemned Igboho and his actions.
But you see Yorubas? From Prof Akintoye, the old guard to some of their pastors. Now Guru has joined them.
Yesterday in Independent newspaper, one was castigating Igbos for being in PDP for 16 years and now want APC ticket.
You then ask: Ngige, Rochas, Onuh, etc where have then been?
Also did some Yorubas join APC in 1998 or 2013/2014? What exactly did Igbos do to Yoruba leaders?
Instead of their leaders to be fighting for the release of Igboho, they are fighting against the release of Kanu. This alone is witchcraft.
