I don't think there is anything wrong in asking Watbas to host us next year. But in order not to defer his reward(athough, monsha Allah, he has the reward already since he intended to do a good act) let both of them lift the bill together this Saturday. How ok is this Delta food? Close to mosque? Good food? Varieties? Space? We need someone in Surulere to coordinate the logistics. He will be the first to reach there, he would have told the management beforehand, maybe by Friday or Saturday morning, that we will be using their eatery for an iftar programme and we will be buying foods aplenty(no extra charge o!) I think 2 is ok. Maybe next year, we can do every weekend. I, for one, will be out of Lagos by 12th insha Allah. |
Drove one-way to avoid traffic 2 days ago. Life is about risk. |
MacLovington: The problem has been there a long time.A good numbe of the north's intelligentsia schooled in the South(at least secondaryu education). Sanusi, Mansur Mukhtar, Shamsideen Usman, Sanusi Daggash etc all attended King's College. |
andromida: What about just 1 almajiri child in northern Nigeria to be sponsored from primary to tertiary stage of education.? In your hurry to judge and put someone to shame you forget justice and sincerity. If you ever thought of raising funds for one almajiri child at a time we know how far that can go. Being poor is relative. Most of you here are poor in comparison to many rich people which begs the question how poor can oyedepo's sister be? Is she poor in comparism to him? Is she unmarried? Is she a widow? Is she unable to eat three square meals and unable to take care of her children? How old is she? what does she do for a living? But the almajiri and our 'relatives' are only poor, they are not under material threat to their faith, which is the ticket to eternal wealth in the Hereafter. |
semid4lyfe: I'm surprised this thread wasn't started by Jarus ![]() oya, wish my guy HBD and park well ![]() |
GboyegaD: Perhaps she was faking her reading like many people do in the school I graduated from. Although it worked for some, it worked against some. A typical example is you seeing some people going to read even before the start of lecture and some silly friends would go with them because they want to be percieved as serious not minding if they gain anything from the act or not. In my case, I missed classes a lot and it had its effect but one thing I do to help me is cooking for my friends when tests and exams are fast approaching and that way, they summarize everything for me and it really worked however, I have learnt to start reading on my own now.Wierd I remember always seeing you in 001's room ![]() I wondered how you were doing well in class, given the number of days you spent outside school juggling school works with your HND programme and later NYSC. You try sha. |
Now, let's get going. Who knows her contact? Who stays in Iyana Ipaja to help us ask 'research' (ask around) it? @Justfash, Could you help us contact your friend (that's their relative) to help get this woman's contact details/phone no? If we have the contact address I volunteer to go with a couple of Nairalanders here to pay her a visit. |
Seun: Start by visiting her. Then if she has any other needs, you can take it from there. That's tolerant of you, especially for one that doesn't subscribe to Islam. Thanks |
GboyegaD: Why take it so personal?Don't mind him. Before he left Nigeria, he wrote UME, chose Ife but failed woefully. As if I was the one that failed him and truncated his ambition of gaining Ife admission he has continued to stalk me, all because I made a First Class in the school he couldn't gain admission into. But I have learnt to ignore him. |
antitpiah: Liverpool is the king of England; more trophies, more fans etcShakes my head for the stupid stalker that couldn't meet Ife's admission requirements and still ruing it many years after. Man U is the most successfull club in England in the last 2 decades. No? WS was a lecturer in Ife when he won his Nobel prize. No? Olodo stalker that even traced me to FB. I don't have anything to prove to you, actually. |
eledalo: Jarus is having an orggggasm somewhere! ![]() |
Let's settle for Surulere and Saturday please. Do we have anyone that stays around Surulere that can recommend a nice fastfood for us to use. What to look for 1, Good eatery with varieties 2, Proximity to mosque for ease of Moghrib salat 3, Storey preferred |
antitpiah: How can you read something that has been expunged'from the syllabus'? rofl. This is why I like coming here, reminds of my history and the peculiarity of Naija English. Using big words in nonsensical context. How you can: In my year 1 in the university, I gathered as many materials as I can on SSC 101(Sociology). Those I got from my sister that wrote the course years ago, those I got from tutorial classes, I was just accummulating every material that had something to do with sociology. Meanwhile the syllabus had been reviewed and most of the things I was reading were no longer part of the syllabus. I ended up having B in what was supposed to be the easiest course if I had stuck to only what was taught in class. |
Roseey0: Its one tin to read, and anotin to pass, making a gud result isnt only achieved frm jacking 24/7.You hv to undastand your lecturers and wat they want, work with past qstions, get the opinion of your seniors and get to knw how to go about diffrnt questions for diffrnt lecturer.U can make it if only u dont give upSpot on. A mistake many students make is believing reading and reading only is what makes one pass exams. There are other factors. In addition to those highlighted in this quoted comment, others include - Exam taking skills - exam is not about picking your pen and writing only, there are many other things to it. - Tension in exam condition: Do you panic inside exam hall? That may be an undoing for you - what do you read? Things that have been expunged from syllabus? Some archaic textbooks even your lecturer is not aware of? All these are critical in succeeding as a student, beyond just reading. |
Faabu o, ko ma roos |
We all know the big 5 among Nigerian universities. Just match them with the big 5 in world football, using similarities NOT IN ANY ORDER 1, BARCA = IFE - rivals with Lag, bragful 2, MADRID = LAG - agelong rivalry with Ife, effizzy 3, MAN U = ABU - King of England, King of the North 4, A.C MILAN = UI - conservative, successful 5, BAYERN = UNN - most successful outside Spain(South West) and England (ABU) and compete well with champions of other regions |
Barca and Madrid are between Ife and Unilag. Both have a history of rivalry and the most sought after in the Southwest. |
At last the most peaceful state in the north has been bomb-deflowered. I know Marina police station, having served in that state. Too bad |
From assistant captainship of the mighty Marseille? From Ukraine to Russia to China, back to Egbeda. The Milan gamble was a disaster. |
semid4lyfe: YES. . .he played some great footie towards the latter stages of last season but I'll never use the word brilliant to qualify Mikel as a player. BRILLIANT was Makalele (at Chelsea)Oshe omode yi |
tribalism: @jarusI don't have religion on my CV. Oya, expose your 'littleness' more. |
I'm also of the opinion that Saturday is better. Meanwhile, we are still at crossroads on the venue of the 2nd edition. We call it mainland edition, meaning it should hold on Mainland, but the sponsor(Majoroller) says Ikoyi is the convenient venue for him. Ikoyi is also Island. Well, we're still looking at our options. So we are looking at making it Surulere. |
So let's set the ball rolling. First, does anyone who stays around Iyana Ipaja know this woman's house? |

JaaizTech: Keep having faith in Allah, there are many Muslims in your shoes, whom have faced so many difficulties in either seeking jobs or admissions simply because they are muslims. My sister also faced the same thing once, but now she works in NLNG, and yes with her Hijab.I faced something similar, but Alhamdulilahi I was still successful.Christians always try to use their position to either oppress or bully muslims to join them, talk about Intercontinental Bank and many other places...In a job (wont say whether it's current or past). At advanced stage of recruitment process, after scaling all processes, someone from HR called someone that knew me(they attended same church) asking "is he a Muslim or Christian?". They can't ask me that at interview (sure), but they went behind to find someone that knew me and they were asking for my religion. Well, thank God, I was too qualified and did too well at the interview to be rejected on religious ground. These are teh things we face in corporate Nigeria! |
Programme in progress, 13 people on ground, more on the way. Lecture titled 'Boko Haram and the rest of us' being delivered by Ustaz Yusuf. |
olawalebabs: Where is tunyus? she did a good job in updating us last year. Bro. Jarus, your number is not going through what is the prob.Use this 07036442913 |
Jarus, it is certainly very generous and kind of you to do this. However, perhaps Oyedepo feels that her non-belief will condemn her to hell (given that this is what his Bible says). Given this belief, is his position not somewhat understandable? After all, material deprivation here on earth is certainly not as bad as eternal suffering. Perhaps in your opinion, he should simply give her the money and quietly at the same time try to convert her. But he is not evil for choosing a different route, is he? He has the freedom to choose, yes?
Yet, I also hold this belief of the cousin, actually. But that doesn't blind me (and my siblings, other cousins etc) of helping her. Who knows, our generosity and kindness to her may even make her have a rethink. |
How can we do our little to save this steadfast Muslim woman from the intimidation by family members and the pastor, to avoid her caving in like the father? I'm ready for assistance To-do 1, Investigate her location 2, Visit her 3, Do fundraising for her 4, Get a Muslim scholar for reminder 5, etc Under tha aegis of NAIRALAND MUSLIM COMMUNITY I'm willing to take active part in this. Who else? http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/07/28/convert-christianity-die-poor-bishop-oyedepo-tells-muslim-step-sister/ |
@Jarus: It isn't as if I'm some polytheistic guy who believes that the God of Christianity, God of Islam, God of Hinduism all exist somewhere, and that your effectiveness/wealth in life depends on the strength of your god. That is not the point of my post. Let me restate the post with the religious language stripped out: If she doesn't want the strings he has attached to his aid, then she should seek help from her own religion. If her religion provides help for her, fine. Problem solved. If not, then she has a decision to make about what to do next. Whether to take Oyedepo's help, or to continue in her poverty.
I now get your point more clearly. But personally, even when stripped of religion, I don't think there is anything wrong in seeking help from a wealthy family member. And even there is nothing in story that says she asked for help. The Bishop, perhaps voluntarily, offered to help her financially, with that condition. In the example of my cousin, she freely asks for financial assistance from us from time to time, and we give(based on familial tie), even when we are sorry for her to choosing a path other than ours(with all our belief that ours is the only right way). I think sometimes the tie of family should override religious difference, especially when it is on something that doesnt go to the root of our belief, like financial assistance(as opposed to something like asking us to follow to her Church). Helping a Christian financially doesnt strip me of my Islam, so why wont I, for a family member for that matter. |
