chucky234: Do you know how much Kola Abiola is worth,he may not be as rich as Dangote but he is certainly not broke.
Well, it's clear that Kola will not rank among the Top 50 richest Nigerians(even Politicians and Generals aside). With all the money available at his disposal from young age to turnover into further billions as Aliko converted his 1978 N500k, he is not in frontline today. That tells you not everybody that had the opportunity Aliko had would have ended up like him. That is why I have problem with people discouting his business sense.

I'm in for any political/advocacy group on NL to interface with the real Political class in Nigeria.

My only concern is: will Seun allow anyone/group of people associate any agitation with his business?

Recall we had something like that during 2011 elections when we Buhari supporters on Nairaland went ahead and sponsored jingles on 5 radio stations across Lagos, Oyo, Rivers and Osun states. But we didn't mention NL, we only said 'BB Integrity Vanguard Online'.
Car Talk › Re: Strange Selling Of Toyota Camry 2007/2008 Cars by Jarus(m): 11:54pm On Aug 05, 2012
That car is great. If someone had told me I won't be driving it currently, I would have said it's impossible. When I wanted to change my Honda Accord EOD, all I had in mind was switching to Camry 07/08. I just love that car, but one thing led to the other and I found myself settling for a Toyoyta 4runner 05 as replacement. I still like Camry.

chucky234: Does that made him a self made billionaire? Maybe you and Billyonaire should find out the value of N500,000 in 1977,70% of people who are opportuned to receive such loan in 1977 will still be a millionaire today. Get a N200,000,000 loan from a relative (without interest) to start a business then come back in five years to tell us if you are still a church rat that you are today, leave that your wikipedia and use your God given brain to think.
Like Kola Abiola abi?

Godogwu: Nope it's not.....but by Forbes this guy is worth $11.2 million (estimated) and he is noted as " self-made" and an entrepreneur.
I agree with Wiki on that. At least, we all know Forbes puts his fortune at that. Self-made may be debatable, but I'm inclined to believing he qualifies for 'self-made'

Godogwu: Dude I'm using Wikipedia... Here's a link on Dangote http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliko_Dangote
So Wiki is Gospel truth? The same Wiki that entered Obafemi Martins as an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, before I raised alarm on NL here about 3 years ago and it was edited?

It's NGN500k not US$. Your Google source is wrong
Business › Re: Is Aliko Dangote Really A Self-Made Billionaire? by Jarus(m): 5:13pm On Aug 05, 2012
He is self-made. He was already a multi-millionaire before he began to have dealings with government. His fraternity with government started in 1999. The first time I heard about Dangote was in 1996 when I heard on TV that one Alhaji Aliko Dangote donated 600k to Nigeria's Gold-winning olympic football team. Many people didn't know him then, yet he was a multi-millionaire, nay Billionaire then.

He didn't inherit, he borrowed from his Grandpa and repaid. It's like me and you borrowing to start buziness. He grew the business. Give it to him, he is self-made.

Yes, I agree govt patronage has helped him in the last 10 years, truth, if you were not rich to an extent, you can't even access political powers-that-be. And in a capitalist economy like ours, it's not possible not to be a 'friend' of govt at a stage. Even in advanced capitalism like US, billionaires sponsor candidates.

Also, do you observe he continues to rise in fortune while other govt's billionaire 'friends' like Otedola, Arthur Eze etc rise and fall? The difference is Dangote is not an emergency billionaire that live solely on government patronage. That is why he is shoulders above others, except maybe Adenuga.
There is no such thing as early nor late marriages.
I agree to an extent. I married at 28 and that was late to me. I planned to do by 26-27. Some other person would consider 28 early.

From a combination of my religious and cutural orientation, anything above 30 is late (27 for a lady). But there is still an acceptable exception to that: lack of basic financial means.

that3as3r: There's only one way to stand out in a job search in Nigeria, Know the Fcukin Boss or someone who knows another certain someone....
This is another reason why many people are unemployable in Nigeria. With this kind of mentality, you may never get job!

There is still merit in Nigeria, any of us got job in big oil companies without knowing anybody.

Here is my assessment:
Oil coys(IOCs): Merit is 95%
Nigerian oil coys: 90% merit driven
Other private sector(Banks etc): 70% merit based
Public sector(CBN, NNPC etc): 70% merit based (my friend got NNPC job without knowing anybody, although he rejected it)
Public Sector(MDAs): 50%

I am talking from my enlightened observation.

He is my neighbour, and I know him very well. He has infact being delivering lectures after Taraweeh for almost a decade now. He is also nicknamed 'Abu Hurayrah' because of his versatility in Hadeeth.
It's actually easy to know he is a coded scholar, both in Islamic and other knowledge.

I'm not new to all these. I've been on their equivalent of Nairaland, Ghanaweb, for almost as long as I have been on NL here. Those guys take Nigerians too seriously, whereas nobody even cares about them here. Imagine before the Nigeria Vs Argentina Olympic football final in 2008 one guy on their forum said he will commit suicide if Nigeria wins.

I used to tackle them there in their football section but Super Eagles are not helping me. I ran away after the match Ghana eliminated us from ANC 2010. That was the last time I logged on there. I no fit withstand the mockery grin

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Resume Tips and More. . . . by Jarus(m):
Cool.

No 1 and 3 were very useful in getting my current job few months ago.

1, After repackaging my CV to suit the requirements, I covered it with a letter I titled '5 reasons why I fit the bill'. Because I knew from the advert that a top MN consulting firm will be doing the recruitment, I emphasized the training I had with that firm 2 years ago on that covering, in addition to 4 other points, all short, concise and well bulleted.

3, When I got to the stage I had to meet the company itself, internet was very useful. Did research on the company and, guess what, when I got to the company's linkedin page it was the name of the HR person I was asked to see in the email invite that I first saw on the page. I clicked his profile and saw he once worked in a sister company to the coy I was working then. Pronto, I called my friend in that our sister company to ask whether he knew Bleep person that left their coy last year. He gave me full details about him. Now, the uncertainty concerning the personality of one of interviewers had been surmounted. I was mentally prepared, I had an idea about the interviewer beforehand. It was helpful in gaining the confidence one needed in an interview. Needless to say my performance in that interview was my personal best.

My only regret was not getting a non-HR insider to chat with before the interview. I didn't have a fair idea of their pay structure, which affected my negotiation.imi

van bonattel: Ero! That was not what me heard. According to an inside source, the demarketing happened when some senior staff of Inter went to the Kano state governor nd on a marketing drive for their customership. The staff call Akingbola that as the government team was accepting the terms, a call came in to the governor and the man changed his mind and refuse
The call was found to be from sanusi and Akingbola took offence, dragged Sanusi to the CBN, soludo judge the case and ask sanusi to apologise to Akingbola, he did not do that after.
Hahaha. And you believe this? Intercontinetal went to Kano for 'marq

Their misunderstanding then was on professional level. Sanusi, in his usual no-holds-barred manner, spoke against Akingbola's sharp practices (as a CEO of a bank you have an idea of what other CEOs are doing - cooking books) and Akintila called it 'demarketing'

The Nobel was for the works he did prior to joining the faculty at Ife. So, again, Ife is yet to produce a NL. My argument still stands; UI = Barcelona. And you my friend would not have got into UI with your circa 240 UME score, very mediocre in the pantheon of great scores like mine grin. And, BTW, I did way better than you on the UME, with less resources, tougher subject combination, and ~-3 age difference. wink

rofl. Jarus calling me Olodo. grin I didnt even stalk you on Myspace and Twitter. I just happened to come across your name while rummaging through the friend-lists of a couple of Pre-K friends . . . and I thought it would be nice to mess with you a lil. And I will continue to mess with you until you start justifying your 'First Class' grin. I really doubt you can justify it though, you really cant give what you aint got. Prove me wrong Alhaji.
Liar. You've forgotten you once mentioned on NL that Ife did not give you admission. Now, it's you had the admission but you didn't stay. Olodo opuro.

And if in your own books, an entirely subjective matter like which of Ife or UI better compares with Barca, is what justifies one's degree, then it goes to reinforce the belief you had an axe to grind with me before

And Soyinka's works in UI won him the prize, right?

I don't need to prove my grade to you, actually. I'm proving it to the right people and in right places.

He should not go and sit out his fledging career in Barca. He should remain in Arsenal. Yaya Toure couldn't make Barca first team and was shipped to England where he reviived his career. Song shouldn't go
