Upright750: Here is my own story of what happen to me on 7th of April 2012 which was this month. I was at the airport in the departure hall at Ethiopian airline counter. i was on cue waiting to check in my luggage. getting to my turn i proceed to the custom officers who was inspecting people's items.after opening my luggage to them and they ask me to pay 2000 naira and i was asking for what because since i started traveling for years i have never travel with any luggage or item to check in. inside my bag i have 25 pairs of shoes which i wanted to return back to Hongkong because the sizes of those shoes did not pair well . after paying them the 2 k they allow me to go ahead to check in my luggage. So when i get to the counter to check in my luggage, after giving airline officer my ticket to check me in he told me that my ticket have little issue that i need to rush to their main office inside the same airport but it's located at the 3 flour. Then i told the guy that i have to leave my luggage there to go fix the issue with my ticket, he said no problem. Because if i go out with my luggage when i come back the custom officer will re check my luggage again and it will cost me another money again and more time because i will start cue on line again. you cant believe me that after i just went up stairs to fix my ticket. before i come back my luggage is no where to be found. You cant believe it that after i ask the guy about my luggage he ask me did you give me your luggage to keep. i searched for my luggage for hours and i couldn't see it and i decided to keep going without my luggage. till date i have not heard anything about it. but the person who stole my luggage is damn looser because i have nothing much important inside the luggage . but if my luggage was with me to hongkong, at least my customer could have change those shoes for me with good one but so be it. So one have to be very careful with their luggage at MMA1 because in other country no matter how you kept your luggage no body will ever touch it. in fact people will be scared to touch it because with Camera they will see who took it .Absolutely your fault Mr. The luggage could have been destroyed because of the suspect package awareness campaign |

UK aid funded firms 'linked to Nigeria fraudster Ibori' Britain's Department for International Development is accused of allowing tens of millions of pounds in UK aid to be invested in Nigerian money laundering fronts, BBC Newsnight has learned. An equity fund backed by DfID-owned subsidiary CDC Group is being investigated by Nigerian officials. The accusation is that the private fund invested in companies linked to convicted money-launderer James Ibori. DfID says CDC carries out thorough checks before investing in funds. Ibori, a former governor of Nigeria's oil-rich Delta States, who looted millions from state coffers, is due to be sentenced by a UK court having pleaded guilty to 10 counts of money-laundering and conspiracy to defraud. As his trial at London's Southwark Crown Court was about to begin in February 2012, Mr Ibori changed his plea to guilty and admitted stealing money from Delta State and laundering it in London through a number of offshore companies. DfID spent £5m investigating the case, the world's biggest money-laundering scam ever brought to justice, and Ibori's network - which spanned four continents. Ibori had secret accounts and companies in London, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Mauritius, Polynesia, Panama, the Marshall Islands and South Africa. Whistleblower revealed But it is the alleged front companies in Nigeria which have cast a shadow over British aid. CDC is overseen by the development secretary, Andrew Mitchell. In January, Mr Mitchell issued an unreserved apology to an Anglo-Nigerian whistleblower after Newsnight revealed DfID had betrayed his identity to the people he was accusing. Dotun Oloko had warned DfID about potential problems with CDC investments. The department passed a document containing Mr Oloko's name to the private equity firm he had accused of investing in potential corruption. He then became the target of private investigators hired by the firm who followed his children to school and looked into his personal and business affairs in the UK and Nigeria. Mr Oloko told Newsnight he is delighted the Nigerian anti-corruption squad is now examining the issue. He also pointed to the fact that Britain's development agency now stands accused of investing in the very corruption it has spent years helping to investigate. "That's the incredible paradox. The same people who've funded the prosecution are the people who've funded the activities which are now being investigated," he said. DfID issued the following statement in response to Newsnight's report: "These specific allegations date back to 2009 under the last Labour government and were investigated by CDC at the time and subsequently passed on to the Met Police and the Serious Fraud Office. "CDC always carries out full and thorough checks before investing in a fund manager and the subsequent investigation gives no indication that British funding has been misused in this case." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-17728357 |

ok nothing do you |
2sexy: Well ,good for you. But the guy got a fiancee and he made her understand that before leaving. And how on earth would you know what some has in mind untill they reveal it?Dude, are you actually listening to yourself? how on earth will his fiancée agree to him going to visit another girl at her house. For what would be the first question by any lady which will then be followed by "I'm not comfortable with you going to meet any lady. why can't you guys discuss any business matters in the office" You don't fight temptation, you AVOID IT |
2sexy: You probably would do the thing right? but let tell you something: there are very principleed people still on planet earth and not some cheap monkey!Off-course I would and common sense tells me that principled people stay away from temptations. If your friend was that principled then he won't be in a position to witness such. Absolutely no point taking advantage of our Nigerian sisters then going around advising their own peeps to stay away from them. In my world, it's called double standards Sir |
2sexy: Thank you bro... You just reminded me of my friend's experience with a female banker. I swear; this i not made up to rubbish the ladies( Besides, I respect the responsible ones a lot and I would not stand by and watch anyone insult his mother. That is me) Now, after my friend finished school, he got a job with an oil firm and this lady saw the guy's account, phone number, the JUMBO package that oil firm pay their trainee after successful completion of the training, and who paid the money(TOTAL). She invited the guy to her home only to get N.A.K.E.D in front of him as an appeal for sex. How did I know this? My friend told me himself when he was advicing me to face my studies and never worry about women, just as most people have done here( thanks folks). He declined and left her there.Your friend was deliberately economical with the truth. The story just don't add up A female banker saw his fat account balance then invited him to her house and all of a sudden decided to go naked and he eventually left her hanging bla bla bla If your friend wasn't interested he definitely wouldn't go to the female banker's house in the first place bro He sampled her/cleaned mouth then advice you to pay more attention to your books rather than focusing on the numerous desperate girls out there. |
KateSpade: We haven't spoken in detail about that. However, that is what I am assuming but I wonder when his mother is returning. I would feel more comfortable in a home with his mother, his dad and him as opposed to just my bf and his father whom I've never met.If you have doubts then stay put except you have enough money to lodge yourself in a hotel close to his house |
Ain't nothing wrong with wanting/embracing/loving the word Security |
Topic already over-flogged hence the lock treatment. You can always get all the Info that you are seeking from this thread=>https://www.nairaland.com/352358/can-long-distance-relationships-really |
Do you have any relatives you can stay with in Naij? If no, his he planning for you to stay with him and his family? |
Bawss1: Was just going to say that. But at the same time I will also add that many people assume that because this is all virtual it's OK to hurl insults and abuses forgetting that such acts are not without consequences. There is nothing we do whether real or virtual that we will not have to account for when the time comes.Insults and abuses (unprovoked attacks) aren't allowed on NL according to seun's published rules. I believe they warrant a ban of some sort. |
How about you do your bit and worry less about other people's posts. Like you said, we are all here to give advices. If you give yours and it ain't going down well then absolutely no point trying to shove it down one's throat or unnecessarily fight for which advice is better. So long as we all are still allowed to exercise our freedom to free speech on the condition that it's contrary to rules and regulations of Nairaland then I'd advice you worry about your bit and ignore the others. Y'all should really stop taking NL too serious. It's only an on-line forum |
@Malaika You are so lucky. Are you able to sneak me in your boot when next you do the road trip? I so wanna explore southern Africa. |
I know it's really tempting but you just have to agree with me that having each and every thread derailed is somewhat frustrating and if was to go on a banning frenzy then I'd be accused of heavy handedness. I'm always open for being called to order but all I ask is for fairness in the criticism. |
Chimezie198: hvn't u derailed a thread before? Cos I' ve seen alot of 'em.You know the rules so please don't go disobeying it. I hope you know posting off-topic attracts a ban so there you go |
Goldieluks: But that thread was dead already, and we were only reviving it.Yes it was but being dead shouldn't mean a free ticket for it to be derailed. Good quality threads are found wanting in the romance section because of reasons such as uncontrollable derailment and quality of posts alike. we all have a duty to make our section sacred. |
It's somewhat painful when y'all act like you are being singled out. Weren't the hidden posts off-topic? You know the rules and I seriously don't have to remind ya'll all the time |

Boston was pretty cool. Yeah i support the celtics so it was quite natural for me to feel at home in beantown. Hated the duck tour though |
JeSoul: Lol, you're absolutely spot on with your last comment. At the same time, the fast-paced madness of NYC is really not for everyone. I get a headache anytime I'm there and really dread anytime I have to go down there. Part of my issue with New york is mostly with the attitudes of the people - rude, inconsiderate, loud, noisy etc they will knock you over and just keep walking, hawkers will practically insult you for not patronising them etc etc... not my kind of place. But you're right about all the attractions, you can't beat that at all. And also the vast array of diverse restaurants - unbeatable. But as for central park, enjoy your picnic & walk, if you can navigate thru the crowded throngs of other lovers who populate the place lol.Stayed around time square few weeks ago and I've concluded NYC is good for only shopping. Too fast paced for my liking |
