Music/Radio / Re: Burna Boys: The ‘Twice As Tall’ Album Review by Jbleenk: 4:15pm On Aug 20, 2020
mantosa:
A Giant’s Story: The ‘twice As Tall’ Album Review

A close look at the Twice As Tall album feature list, will give you a slight indication of what is to come.

But it doesn’t prepare you for the full impact.

Burna Boy proves with this amazing body of work that his self-professed title of African giant holds considerable promise, especially against a backdrop of a new crop of global audience.

It’s refreshing to see a musical work that is a proper album and not just a collection of songs pieced haphazardly together. The highly anticipated LP, ‘Twice As Tall’ is positioned for a global audience and that is much evident from the remarkable artiste features that elevates the music from the company of the usual Nigerians suspects to a more global collective, with guest appearances from Chris Martin, Stormzy and the legendary Naughty by Nature.

The work opens with the classic ‘Level Up (Twice as Tall)’ featuring the African legend, Youssou N’Dour who instantly pulls you in with a soul-stirring rendition that helps unpack Burna Boy’s narrative of pain.

The LP can be summarized as a compilation of Burna Boy’s Grammy aftermath story. Track after track, Burna Boy is not afraid to mouth his many failings and disappointments and the reaction of people to the hand dealt him in his career.

From ‘Level Up,’ ‘Alarm Clock’ to ‘Way Too Big,’ Burna’s mission to assert his musical dominance clearly comes through and he’s not subtle about his political propensity in ‘Monsters You Made’ and ‘Wetin Dey Sup.

It’s not clear why ‘Wonderful’ is the lead single on this LP, with the array of songs available for the pickings, but with P.Diddy, executive producing the album he might have had something to do with the choice. Diddy’s voice clearly comes through in a few tracks, whether to imprint himself in the work or to add creative colour to the tracks, we are not mad at the result.

The familiar sounding, ‘Comma’ takes a shot at the irregularities of a 21st century woman looks and all. If Burna Boy is looking to acquire more female following, this is definitely not the way to do it.

23’ spotlights Burna Boy’s struggle with dealing with the negativity and two-faced reception he has gotten from music industry stakeholders. The starting line, ‘Music Make Me Feel I Be Jordan’ aptly summarizes the strange title, ‘23’ which celebrates the jersey number of basket ball’s finest, Michael Jordan.

Monsters You Made,’ with the smooth rock exterior by Chris Martin is an authentic protester’s anthem. Burna Boy raves at everything from the white man’s doctored education system to the rape of the Niger Delta region.

Burna Boy and Stormzy trade street stories in the track ‘Real Life’; stories about survival, good times and peace of mind and it’s a smooth, mid-tempo vibe that will definitely take you on a cruise. The LP ends nicely with ‘Bank On It,’ Burna’s attempt to consolidate his integrity and the choir-type chorus rendition at the end adds a colourful touch to the track.

If there’s anything missing in Burna Boy’s ‘Twice As Tall’ album, it’s a visible Nigerian creative input, because no Nigerian music artiste was featured anywhere in the body of work. Then again that’s probably because the work required only one.

This is just an exaggerated hype. This is the worst of Burna Boy’s work.

Chinkos99:
Our company recently employed this guy, we worked in the same company before, then he was a manager and i was a junior staff.

I left the company years ago and joined another, so few months ago he got employed in my new office as a Director.

When he resumed, being that i knew him before, i started playing around with him, like when he was introduced to us, i was like oo, common, i hug him tightly and people were surprise at our closeness before i informed them that we have worked together before.

I am a jovial person, so each time i go around his office, i will call him boyfriend, my love, hope no girl is trespassing cos i will fight o and his subordinates will laugh and say you are not serious.

On the job, we get to work together at times cos i am a Manager now, we go for meetings etc, then some of his job includes doing some short production, even though i am not employed as a video producer, i told him i can do those for him personally, cos i recently learn those, he was surprise before but he decided to give me a try, i did it for him and he liked it, he became close and said i was helping him solve alot of problems.

Recently when he comes to my office, he will ask my PA where is my woman and that one will laugh knowing i started it but i just thought that was it though.

So last month when we went to the Palms Mall, to seek for permission to film their facilities in the short production work we had, we were together then he decided to do some shopping, i helped him carry the things he bought and just had fun, he took me to shoprite and ask me to shop, i just pick two things, drink and rice and he said is that all i said yes, he started showing me things, take this, take that i said i was okay, that it wasnt appropriate to come here and start shopping like its month end. So we left, in the car he said, you do have some very good attribute girl, i said like what, he said never mind and we drove off.

After that he started asking if we can have lunch but most time our lunch time dont sync, so i told him not to worry, then he asked for a dinner, i close late, im a workaholic, so most times i will agree but i will work till 9pm and he would have waited and get tired and left.

Finally i get to have a dinner date with him and he ask if we could do this more often, i said why not boyfriend jokingly, the next time we were having dinner, I said boyfriend let me greet that guy there, i really needed to meet him, he has a contact i need for work, he held me and said you call me boyfriend jokingly, i want you to mean it lol.

After i met with the guy, he started telling me how he loved me and how he will really love us to be in a relationship, he doesnt expect a yes and he knows its so wrong on all level because we work in the same place, but i can think about it and give him a response later that he will respect any decision i make.

I said thank you o, but since then, dude is so soft and nervous when he sees me, i can see the butterflies even when we are in a client meeting.

Even though he tries not to make it obvious at work, after work he is all over me

Last night we were together, i told him i am scared as he is almost 40 and not married, that i believe any guy who gets to that age, with enough money but has not married is a play boy lol. He couldn't say a word for like some minutes then he said, yes i am old enough to have been married and i had relationships, beautiful relationships with wonderful women, some didn't work because of my mistakes and because of things i neglected and some didn't work because it was not meant to work, but above all have learnt alot to be at least a better man and i am ready to make it work this time i promise, i have no doubt if you are the right girl because have known you for long and have never had a second thought about my woman, so forgive me for not making it work all these while, i want to make it right this time - MEHN THOSE WORDS RINGS IN MY HEAD LIKE KILODE, i loved the fact that he didnt put the blame on the ladies he's dated.

Now on my own side, I do not feel anything for him but i like him alot, i like that we should be hanging out, go out, do dinner and talk from morning tonight but i do not feel anything aside that. What do you guys advise.

Girl I tell u this with all certainty, if that dude start caring less and stop giving u all the attention u get from him, then u will realize how cool and nice he was to u all along and how much u truely actually love him. This is the psychology of love. So I’d say don’t force it until u truly realize u do love him after all.

3 months without masturbation and I don't think I'm gonna go back to that shit. Best solution to it:
1. Avoid anything porn or erotic completely at the start until you're able to withstand the urge.
2. Get a girlfriend that is readily available

So basically you are saying fornication is better than masturbation?

Health / Re: My Experience As A Covid 19 Survivor. by Jbleenk: 2:14pm On May 15, 2020
osesology:
Fellow Nairalanders, l want to first of all use this opportunity to thank God for saving my life from this dreaded virus called covid 19.

I'm from Edo state. I was one of the 20 people that were discharged on the 13th of this month.
My purpose of writing this piece is to enlighten the people, especially the unbelievers on this forum that this virus is real. It is not a propaganda. Yes, l do not argue the fact that Govt has a way of taking advantage of situations like this, but when you are knowledgable, there is an extent at which you can be fooled.

This desease does not have the power that we are attributing to it. It took me just 7 days to recover because my case was detected early. The reason why people are still dying from this virus is due to ignorance and scepticisms. And when they eventually fall sick, it becomes too late

The day l received the call that my result came back positive, the health officials told me to take my time to get ready, and, even though they had my home address, told me to let them know where it will be convenient for me to wait for them to come pick me up. I'm saying this for those who keep say how come they don't see videos of patients on t.v. This was done so people don't stigmatize people close to me. Trust me, Nigerians are very good (or should l say bad) at that. Infact, the day after l was checked in the facility, one driver that works at my office who lives on the same street with my sister, went to that street to announce to anyone who cares to listen that her brother has tested positive to corona virus. Immediately, they started to stigmatize my sister, her husband and their three children. And these are people that l have had no contact with for weeks.

So, my main reason for writing this is for people to stop being ignorant. Get tested immediately you start to feel unwell. Early detection is the key to fighting this thing. When you are been screened, answer all the questions truthfully, don't hold any information back because it is due to the information you give that determines if you are eligible for testing or not. It is better you get tested and it comes out positive and receive treatment immediately than lie about your health, go home and die in ignorance.

Covid 19 is Real! Thanks.

I think it will do a lot of good if u reveal the treatment administered on you during your stay at the isolation center. And any other relevant info.

I thank God for you not everybody infected survived it.

rusher14:
The African mind needs enlightening.

Covid-19 should serve as a wake up call to the African.

This pandemic informs you on the healing inability of your various pastors.

It displays how lacking in knowledge, logic and empathy most of them are.

It underlines the fact that oyinbos are not gods neither are the Asians supreme.

It shows our illpreparedness to challenge and overcome the various issues we would be faced with as a community.

We have no medical facilities, no labs for testing, no database for effective management and no society for the advancement of science or craft.

The irony that the USA just a few weeks ago was barring Nigerians from seeking non-visitor visas only to be advertising for positions of experienced medical personnel when they were faced with a challenge should actually motivate the Nigerian to know he is capable.

If our doctors could be fast-tracked into the US system during a crisis, our programmers could create applications without needing external validation.

We are capable of overcoming.

We are capable of producing.

There was a consensus amongst a large swathe of Nigerians when Pastor Chris chose to misinform.

This proves that the mind of the Nigerian is not completely shackled.

We can define a new Nigeria even now.

We can produce in Nigeria.

We can develop.

We shall overcome.

I have to do this post after receiving a lot of bashing from Nigerians after Commenting on a thread here (https://www.nairaland.com/5788485/chris-oyakhilome-churches-not-places/9#88367449) we don’t realize we have broken faith wth our ancestors and are suffering the consequences. I don’t mind if it don’t make fp as long as people get to read and realize our mistake.

How can a people have a future when they are disconnected with their past and their roots? I have heard people who don't know the names of streets next to theirs in Lagos give vivid description of London streets and they are proud of it! Some funny characters who don't know the names of their next-door-neighbours travel several kilometres to hug and pray in deceitful fraternity with total strangers all in a bid to find elusive peace.

We are happy and foolishly excited when we tell the stories of WANDERERS from their "Holy books" and dismiss with scorn Centuries of a Beautiful Heritage,Proud Traditions and enviable cultures as contained in the African Social Order!

We broke faith with our Ancestors and we are suffering the consequences. The descendants of Cavemen and Wanderers, from the West and the East, have given us enough WILD GEESE to chase forever because we are stupid!

Funny Characters like TB Joshua and Chris Oyakhilome ride us like donkeys in the South and Abubakar Shekau kill us like Goats in the North! Thinking about it now, it is actually a repeat, the very same way their progenitors, the early " missionaries" and "Jihadist" performed some 200years ago when they intruded into the affairs of a people who lived better and were more blessed than their miserable selves!

We are in deep trouble and we are fast heading for deeper troubles unless we are able to STOP & THINK!
