Chrisbenogor:Body dey inside the arms of God and you? Yes I am asking hypothetically, and I hope your saying it is impossible is just within the tenets of christian belief.and that's where the problem is my dear. To a christian, the concept that God is, was and always will be, and that Jesus is His son and Lord over all - is not just a belief, it is a fact, that we know to be true by faith. and what is christian definition of faith? Heb 11 "Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see". So you see in the mind of a christian, it is impossible to entertain the possibility that our God is not real. It's an oxymoron. I hope this makes sense to you. Though to you we are just people who hold a "belief". 1Cor 1:18 "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God". but to us, it is a fact, that leaves no room for the scenario you're hypothesizing. sorry I cannot speculate as to what "I would do"But I asked myself if it happens that I am given the chance by God himself on rapture day I would most definitely apologise for being obstinate then proceed to ask my questions. I hope it doesn't come down to the last day for you, "today is the day of salvation" my brotha, "seek truth while it may still be found" |
Chris, no probs boy I get you, you're asking "hypothetically" right? the problem with your question is that it is an impossible one in the mind of a christian. It's like asking "what if I was never born?"and if I find myself on the moon? I go ask myself who send me message ![]() |
Mazaje, we have been through this before haven't we? As to your 'test scenarios' I will give you my initial answer on this thread:I see no need to speculate & hypothesize on something that will not happen .and you ask how do I know this to be true? I give you the same answer I gave you months ago on that other thread: by Faith. And by the indisputable 'proof' of God's sovereignty I see everywhere in the world, and in my life. You don't see it because you've closed your eyes and your heart to Him. Chris, you will not find any "christian" that will give you the answer you're looking for. This faith does not permit the chance to doubt - no one who puts their hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of heaven - christians believe in the unequivocal, absolute, unshakable truth that Jesus is Lord and the son of God (no ifs n buts n maybes n what ifs). |
Acts 19:11 God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them. So it is not entirely unbiblical BUT
Its not unusual anymore to see purportedly annointed religious items being sold at church services anymore. Top amongst then seems to be the handkerchief and oil. Hence my question, is that stuff even in the bible?? I thought the blood of JC was supposed to have substituted all other stuffs.
The selling of annointed clothes and oil etc is a twisted deviation and is inconsistent with biblical principles - God does not "sell" healings & miracles. While I believe God can heal a person thru many means, the way many 'pastors' go about this today is simply put wrong. They have turned the gospel of Christ into a profit-making venture - solely for the purpose of personal gain. Rest assured, this will not go unpunished on that last day. |
Okija, you want God to make an extraodinarily grand entrance and leave undeniable proof of His existence? . . . well He already did that. He appeared to the Isrealites and they were so astounded and terrified they begged Him to speak through Moses next time. And what did the Isrealites do after they saw this 'undeniable' proof of God's existence? . . . they went right back into sinning. The problem has never been that man needs 'proof' of God, it is that man in spite of proof still refuses to accept God - because of our sinful nature. You're asking amiss if you expect God to bend to YOUR request like He was some weakling that needed human approval. God does not work like that! He does not think or reason like we puny humans do. and the sad thing is even if God did an undeniable miracle for all to witness today, 'scientists' will still find a way to question it, doubt it, spin it, come up with theories attempting to explain it and then when they cannot find an explanation for it, they simply call it a 'mystery' and shove it under the folder of "unexplained/to-be explained events". . . the futility of our human thinking. |
Abi Oh . . . I think Lewis should recuse himself asap. Palmer should thank his stars he won't be on the field the rest of the season, what an embarrasment ![]() And Bawo u see the way Revenge feels good baby! ![]() |
There was actually a topic on this a while back https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-123896.0.html#msg2108834 I feel your pain. And I wish these churches and mosques would treat their neighbors like they would like to be treated. Why don't you try speaking to the people in charge? It's a long shot but its better than not trying at all. |
manmustwac:My dear brotha that is YOUR definition of 'how' God can prove Himself to you and that is a common misconception among many people - "that since God doesn't answer MY prayers then He must not exist" - God is not in the business of 'proving' Himself to anyone. The gospel was never meant to be "proven" but to be simply believed. Pick up the bible and look around the world and see how God has already chosen to 'prove' Himself to man. |
offtopic: ibkaye:girl I just took a peek at your blog & u are hilarious! ![]() |
manmustwac:There's no need to prove something that's already inherent and self-evident to every man . . . its just that some choose to deliberately 'sear of' and silence that knowledge of God that is within us all. |
I see no need to speculate & hypothesize on something that will not happen . Jesus is Lord, both now and on the judgement day. |
wow SD cannot even win against the bush-less saints . . . what a bunch of 'potential' losers and Cincy lost to Houston? all the NFC east teams won yday - A-40 its gon be tight for the teams there to make the playoffs. And I agree with Bawo, Brad Johnson looks unstable to me too in other good news, the Pats are actually tied with the Bills now for the AFC east lead, our playoff chances r looking good. Cassel was just okay. I need to see this against a quality opponent before I'm sold. |
Obinna, glad you got some laughs Hope alls well with you ![]() Fifio, FifiO: hey girl, you'd be suprised at how much fun baseball is . glad to hear all is well with you . When Analytical first created this topic I was so happy because it was a breath of fresh air from the pollution the main religion board had become. But you know, there's always a good topic once in a while where you can learn much from, though they are rare. And a few genuine seekers asking honest questions that could use godly answers from people like you. So ejo nor leave us oh your presence is highly appreciated! Analytical, its been a while. I hope you are well . Gamine, Kola, Queen, Brain, Doyin and everyone else - have a Fantastic weekend! ![]() |
Growing up we sang this song of praise so often I have seen the Lord's goodness His mercies and compassion I have seen the Lord's goodness Halleluyah praise the Lord! Oh Lord You have been so good You are so good to me Oh Lord You are excellent I my life everyday Oh Lord You have been so good You are so good to me Oh Lord You are excellent I my life everyday |
Nimshi, there is no need for details . If Mega's friend believes what he's doing is wrong and hinders his relationship with God, then that's his call to make. And good for him in wanting to live a holy life pleasing to God, God will honor and bless that effort he is making to be seperate from ungodly people.Mega, I hope things are going well with your friend. |
As usual, here are the weekend picks ![]() Week 8 TB vs Cowboys - the recent struggles of the 'Boys + going against a 5-2 team . . . the only positive is they're playing at home Washington vs Det - No self-respecting team loses to the wigers Buffalo vs MIA - I expect the bills to continue their winning ways in sunny miami St.Lou @ NE - Cassel must now show that the 3TD no INT performance last week was not a statistical outlier San Diego vs NO - ah yes the treat for our London friends over at Wembley stadium. Since SD cannot win in America, perhaps they might win in Europe Atl vs Philly - a chance for Philly to make that NFC east div much more tighter, but the falcons are not too shabby themselves Cincy vs HOU - its the clash of the wuss-tans The first real chance for the bengals to get in the win column. If they lose to the Texans that would be beyond shameful. By the way . . . where is Onyinye? NYG @ Pittsburgh - 1st Game of the weekend - I'm going with Big Ben on this one, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" MNF Indy vs TEN - the other game of the weekend - The last undefeated team in the league going up against former AFC superpower Colts. I think Tennesee will stay undefeated, the Colts offense lacks chemistry and momentum, they are a shadow of the previous years. |
lol . . . Gamine those animations are hilarious ![]() |
doyin13:I called for some evidence to substantiate your "legendary status" as a cricket player . . . I'm still patiently waiting . . . ![]() It is not the quantity but the quality of the admirer(s).*. . . searching for the blushing icon* |
. . . lol golf is not a typical word you would hear coming out from a young lady . Which NL'der be dat? you have so many admirers I don't know which one to guess sef! hehe ![]() |
aight got ya ![]() So you play golf? I wouldn't have guessed that! We used to play with sticks n try to hit balls into cups we lay on the ground . . . good times |
marydre:ROTFLOL . . . make we all pack our wishes add ontop Wale's . . . I wish too, but I won't be holding my breath for it to come true anytime soon ![]() |
ah Gamine, you're going to cowboy country? don't worry our brotha A-40 will make sure you get integrated properly . But it is a good choice, cost of living is cheaper than here up in the northeast. |
hehe I feel you . . . even my family shudders when they hear say I dey watch golf & baseball . . . nevertheless, I embrace my "weirdness" ![]() And your research is complete? What the final selection? I'm curious! ![]() |
bawomolo:I'm going with pretender with a small "p" and by the way . . . GO PHILLIES!!! ![]() |
Doyin, I think moreso in the NFL, the QB can make or break a team. Cassel was already disadvantaged because he was coming in to fill some humongous shoes. The bar was already set pretty high and unfortunately for him, he is not and cannot be Tom Brady. He doesn't know how to move his feet in the pocket and he holds on to the ball way too long and then when he decides to throw it, its to a receiver who is well covered . . . he should have waaay more INTs than the stats say. |
My sister, no be so oh . . . the reilgion forum has too many riff raffs running free . . . I only participate in topics where the poster has a genuine interest in learning and in discussions where progress or sense is actually being made not just arguments n endless head-butting n people are trying to "win" instead of "learn" . . . that rules out about 98% of religion topics but you can frequently find me in the NFL/NBA threads . . . anyways how you dey? |
Na wa oh . . . its so quiet in here . . . ![]() Hope everyone's doing well. I wanted to come n give thanks to God for His love and direction and provision. I am blessed beyond measure and will overcome by the word of my testimony. I pray now for all those who hunger and thirst for God, that He may fill them till they overflow with His goodness n grace. Is 55:6 Seek the LORD while he may be found call on him while he is near. |
Chris, I think you're mixing two different things here. If I were 8yrs old, or english wasn't my first language, there is no doubt that I would have trouble understanding many things in the bible. But at the same time if I were a PhD and extremely decorated in academics, but yet did not have the holyspirit - I would also have trouble understanding the bible. So obviously for those who are schooled and educated and also filled with the holy spirit, they surely have a huge advantage when it comes to understanding the bible. BUT my dear brotha you must not mistake this to say that christianity is only for the intelligent. Knowledge or more specifically - Revelation of God - does not come from human wisdom. Infact the scriptures are filled with references to this: 1Cor 1: 26 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. "For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power." Look at numerous characters of repute in the bible - David was a sheep herder, the disciples, fishermen - many of them were not "intelligent" or literate people yet these people had an incredibly deep knowledge of God - they didn't sit and learn in any classrooms, or under any scholars, how did they know so much? it came from God. let me give you an example: when I was about 12yrs old, I was listening to a sermon and the preacher was making a point from the bible, but something inside me just knew that what he was teaching was wrong. I couldn't prove or explain why I felt that way but somehow I just felt it (this is where the holy spirit's revelation comes in). Years later - much older n much wiser - I stumbled onto the same verse again and suddenly could see that he had been taking the verse out of context and using it to teach something it wasn't teaching. There are OT events that only make sense after I've done extra study to understand the circumstances and meanings of certain things. And I'll add that gathering knowledge is good, but if you really want wisdom to wrap your mind around God's word - you can only get it from one place - God. Ephesians 1:17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Colossians 1:9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. |
David has given you a perfect answer. Understanding of the bible doesn't come from human intelligence or wisdom, it comes from the HolySpirit. Which is why a lotta biblical events and teachings don't make sense to the casual observer. The spirit is the one that gives relevation. Chrisbenogor:Au contraire . . . Jesus chose disciples that were fishermen, uneducated and yes illiterate. Christianity is for those who have a willing and humble heart, open to receiving wisdom from the only place it truly comes from, God. |
actually Jesoul is buzzing from the presentation she just gave at work . . . phew! that's a huge monkey off my back ![]() but yes I was particularly ecstatic at the beatdown we dished out on mnf. BUT I'm realistic enough to keep things in perspective, Denver played a horrible game, so it wasn't so much the pats dynamic offense but crucial turnovers n mistakes that led to the lopsided scoreline. I need to see some consistency b4 I'm sold Cassel does infact know what he's doing. Reggie Bush out for 4 weeks? n there goes the playoff hopes for the Saints. |
bawomolo:i see haters be happy this morning oh well you can't win all the time . Still proud of the Sox, coming back to make it a series. Just like in the NBA you win with defense, in Baseball, you win with pitching n the Rays had better pitchers than we did period. One sportscaster said this "Look at the bright side Sox fans, the 2008 Rays roster will be the 2010 RedSox roster" the wonders money can do - if those dam yankees don't beat us to the players first . . .Very eventful NFL weekend. Not suprised by the Chargers n Colts loss, I expected it. Both teams are just not that good this yr at all and I doubt they'll make the postseason. As for Dallas . . . see how the mighty have fallen so fast n the constant media coverage does not help at all. Well goodluck n hopefully TO doesn't have a breakdown soon at the rate things r going. |
mehn Bawomolo you were right bout the cowboys . . . kosi defense at all at all. See spanking at the hands of the Rams? and yes we're watching your "bi-polar" Orton and what do ya mean by those "poor" Rays? he he If the Sox can pull off this victory tonite it will be one for the ages . |
