Christianity EtcRe: Virgintiy Is A Virtue by JeSoul(f): 2:50am On Mar 23, 2008
tpaine, I thot you had retired from NL? lipsrsealed

@topic,
as a christian virginity and staying pure is of utmost importance. Knowing that besides the physical advantages of abstinence, there's also the spiritual aspect - that every partner you have you become one with them. When a person has so many partners, they come to their marriage incomplete, resulting in a less than fulfilling marriage cos they've given so much of themselves that they can never get back.

abstinence is the best practice - always.

Don't worry for us Christians today is a day of victory - you might think we are down becos its the remembrance of the death of Christ BUT we know what comes after His death - HIS RESURRECTION!!! grin so therefor there's nothing for us to be sad about, only to celebrate and remember.

well I was wrong about being wrong. . .at first I thot he was surely a gonner, then he made the speech and I thot he was back BUT

here in the beantown, the white folks are infuriated he refused to denounce his pastor. That seems to be the recurring theme the past couple of days. The fact that he didn't turn his back on his pastor and church and calling his grandmother a "typical white person". I don't know what the fuss is, what he said is true anyways.

I think this is all much ado about nuthin - and this from someone who's not a sold Obama fan, but I admire what he's been able to accomplish.

At first they all wanted to vote for him cos of white guilt - to show they were really not racist but good people. Now they have a "reason" not to vote for him and still be able to justify it in their eyes.

imhotep:
The word "tradition" is taken from the Latin 'trado, tradere' meaning to hand over, to deliver, or to bequeath. It is from these traditions, for instance, that we know that Peter was crucified upside down in Rome. This is not recorded in the bible.

What was Paul referring to in these letters -->

1 Corinthians 11:2
"Now I praise you that ye remember me in all things, and hold fast the traditions, even as I delivered them to you. "

2 Thes 2:15
"So then, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye were taught, whether by word, or by epistle of ours "
how funny! so now you want to quote Paul's words huh? I will show your duplicity:
quote from imhotep:
Are you trying to use the words of the servant (Paul) to counter the words of the Master (Jesus) This is bad biblical scholarship/exegesis.
Why all of a sudden is it okay for you to take Paul's words literally?

This is exactly my point! you quote the bible only when it suits and supports your position.
but when that same bible contradicts it you completely ignore it!
Christianity EtcRe: The Truth About The Catholic Church: And Other Churches: In History by JeSoul(f): 4:41pm On Mar 20, 2008
here's the quote from the website on catholic belief

"The Roman Catholic Christian view (especially since the Second Vatican Council) holds that the Bible is inerrant only in the things that God intended to reveal, the inconsistencies being deemed not to belong to these, or being deemed to be figurative and/or allegory."

doesn't this mean anything that is contradictory was not meant literally? and was only a figure of speech?

I paste from my previous response:
The catholic church believes only the parts of the bible that don't contradict their traditions. They therefore can claim to justify all these extra and contra-biblical teachings because those "parts" of the bible were probably "figurative" and not meant to be applied literally.
So therefore when all those millions of verse say that God alone forgives sins - they were not really meant to be taken literally.
But when Jn 20 said the apostles forgives and people will be forgiven, they take it literally. They apparently have picked which parts of the scriptures to deem acceptable or not, meant to be taken literally or not. and this selection appears to be based on whether or not that particular verse contradicts their own traditions or canon.

Now, since you don't want to get off the 66books, what is really your point? I'm not throwing out a #66, the #66 has absolutely nuthin to do with it. The accepted books (by everyone but the catholics) just happened to sum up to 66 books, that's all, why are you stuck on that? who in here doesn't know the church (except catholics) for centuries has subscribed solely to the bible?  shocked
Besides the fact that there are contradictory parts in your scripture and tradition immediately raises red flags, don't you think? huh?

imhotep,
common now, address the issues! you said everything I said in my post is incorrect - please correct me!
it is common and historical knowledge everyone but the catholic church uses the standard bible of 66books- but that is not the issue here, go head and correct anything I said in the quote below.

JeSoul:
There are 2 types of "christians" here.

1. One set of christians hold solely to the standard bible of 66 books and base all their beliefs and creeds solely on it.

2. The other set of "christians" do not hold solely to the 66 books of the bible but also their traditions
Catholics believe both Scripture and tradition are equal and both make up "the word of God"

Now the issue here is that the #1 christians biblically declare the #2 christians false because their extra-biblical traditions/beliefs directly and ourightly contradict parts of the bible

As showed by imhotep to me once, the catholic church states that the parts of the bible that contradict their traditions were not meant to be taken literally by God(I'll get the link in a sec). Sysuser this is why they cannot and do not accept the many verses that you have been quoting - as admirable and valiant as you've been.

For example: Hence when the bible teaches that salvation is by grace alone, God did not mean that literally -according to the catholic church. And they say their traditions (which to them are also scripture) "reveal" that. The fact remains that they do not hold the same belief system (of the 66 books) of the bible that we do.

Now let me add I have met some catholics that love God and and are believing in Him to save them. Nevertheless, they are ignorant of the beliefs their churches hold that are borderline heretic. Once you recognize that these teachings are inconsistent and contradictory to the bible (which makes no provision for the use of extra-biblical material) they must turn away from it.
Christianity EtcRe: The Truth About The Catholic Church: And Other Churches: In History by JeSoul(f): 3:53pm On Mar 20, 2008
and try to address the issues,
we're not talking about 33,000 sects or luther cos I could care less about what he believed or taught. We are quoting and standing solely on the 66 books of the bible.

Politics"scambaiters Turn Tables On Nigerian E-mail Scam Artists" - This Is Funny! by JeSoul(op): 8:17pm On Mar 19, 2008
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,338908,00.html

"Revenge is sweet — and thanks to tattoo ink, sometimes permanent — for a growing legion of "scambaiters" who have taken it upon themselves to punish the thieves behind those Nigerian e-mail scams.

Posting their exploits online, scambaiters are turning the tables on the scam artists, conning the cons who have bilked unsuspecting people out of countless millions of dollars in a common scam referred to as the "419 scam" or advance-fee fraud.

Typically, scammers start an e-mail relationship and get their victims to send money to people who claim to be dying or who need help to free a fictitious dead man's money purportedly tied up in a foreign bank account.

The scambaiters play along, goading the scammers to jump through extraordinary hoops in hopes of getting their hands on their victims' cash.

One con artist gladly tattooed himself with a design that read "Bilked by Shiver" and sent the photographic evidence to Shiver Metimbers, the founder of 419eater.com, a Web site that documents the scambaiters' revenge.

Ahmed Sadiq, of Lagos, Nigeria, first contacted Metimbers in 2005 asking for money for a trip to Mecca. After repeatedly trying to shake Sadiq, Metimbers sent him the e-mail address of "Father Bruce Corbin," the fictitious head of accounts for the equally fake Holy Church of The Tattooed Saint.

After Sadiq contacted Corbin, the fake father responded: "All members of our church (myself included) must bear the tattoo mark of our saint, Saint Bartholomew Shiver. This mark of faith is tattooed on to each individual member of our church."

Sadiq, believing he'd get an exorbitant sum from the church, went to great lengths to get the tattoo on his thigh, only to find himself being strung along for more than three months by the fake father and a string of other phony personas created by 419eater.com's founder."

Christianity EtcIranian Textbooks Teach I'slamic Supremacy, Inequality for Women, Non-Mu'slims by JeSoul(op): 8:13pm On Mar 19, 2008
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,339452,00.html

Iran's schools are teaching children to abide by i'slamic supremacy and discriminate against non-m'uslims and women, according to a study of Iranian textbooks by the think tank Freedom House.

The study, "Discrimination and Intolerance in Iran's Textbooks," examined about 95 different school textbooks that are mandatory for first- through 11th-grade students in Iran. Authored by Paris-8 University sociologist Saeed Paivandi, it is the most comprehensive look to date at the books being used in Iranian schools, according to The New York Sun.

"The discourse of the textbooks has not been written with the concept of equality of all human beings, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," the study concludes. "In the textbooks' reasoning, human beings cannot be equal with one another on this earth, in the same way that, on the day of reckoning, they will be subject to divine judgment for their identity and actions."

Based on the analysis of the Iranian textbooks, Paivandi surmises that different people have different places in society; those who aren't high on the status ladder will be victimized by prejudice.

"Some individuals are born first-class citizens, due to their identity, gender and way of thinking, while others become second- and third-class citizens," the study states. "Those who are excluded from the inside are victims of this discriminatory system."

this is how they continue to brainwash children and hence raise terrorists.

I think he did a great job of pedalling to both sides and he made it clear that he wasn't turning his back "or distancing" himself from the church or his pastor. Good speech, it should calm a lot of the furor down and hopefully help in both sides understanding each other better.
PoliticsRe: Obama Faces Potential Damage From His Pastor's Comments by JeSoul(f): 2:56pm On Mar 18, 2008
Inasmuch as I don't fancy the way Rev. Wright went about delivering that "sermon" - lets be real, a lotta what he said is true, though I did disagree with a good portion of it too.

This is a no-win situation for Obama. So poster you should change the title to "Obama Faces Definate Damage From His Pastor's Comments"

Becos if he completely denounces his church and totally contradicts his pastor (or ex-pastor) he will lose the support and admiration of a large percentage of blacks/african-americans who in reality hold the same (or some of the) views of the pastor.
On the other hand, if he doesn't completely distance himself from wright, white america will not continue to embrace him as "one of theirs".
A no-win situation. . . but maybe he might be able to assuage the plantation white america with his speech today cheesy, we'll see. I haven't run into too many black people who are upset at Rev Wright . . . dost thou wonder why?

The bible should not be used to sow hatred and bitterness. Simple.

We all have somthing to learn from Jesus who prayed for those that hated Him the most.
You're right and you're wrong. The words of the bible are harsh and offensive to those whose hearts have been hardened. You saw the effect Jesus' words had on the pharisees? how many times they were outraged and wanted to kill Jesus?
Yes we should pray for those who hate and disagree with us but we must also speak out the truth at all times (as the Spirit leads) - whether or not the truth is offensive.
